* The stock kernel from Rogers Official Release UXUMA7 Samsung TouchWiz (4.1.2) which is "secured", which mean certain adb operations will not be accessible. This boot image has the ramdisk changes to allow such privileged functions.
* Added init script support. Scripts must be placed in "/system/etc/init.d" and have execute
permissions and owned by root. NOTE: this requires busybox to be installed.
* ro.debuggable is enabled by default.
* devs: The ROMS post qcom boot script is disabled (as it is incorporated in the ramdisk)

never ceases to amaze me how quickly u come out with the modified ramdisk/unsecure path for touchwiz kernels so soon after release. how hard is it to make those changes?

It is not hard. Once, you figure out the workflow (which has been pretty much the same), you automate it (of course once in a while sammy throws in a monkey wrench)...

Mohan, I must say your a boss. Thank you for all your hard work for this phone.

[DUMP] T959VUVKB5 Deodexed/Rooted

The link below is a ZIP file that contains the /system and /data dumps from the Samsung Vibrant 4G.
I have removed SOME of the bloat, deodexed the APKs, and added root permissions.
THIS IS NOT A ROM....PLEASE TO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH WHEN CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY IS RELEASED.

I think it would have been better to include the bloatware, some people use those apps that come with the phone but whatever. Good work

Like I said, its for developers, and most developers remove all bloatware, then, if the user wants, they can re-download what they need.
He's just trying to help out guys. Once CWM gets built, you can flash this and you phone will be better optimized due to being deodexed.

Wouldn't the rom already be deodexed out when it's released, or would we then need to flash this afterwards?

no, Stock is ODEX'd. You would need to deodex it. This would allow you to make themes, and modify system files.

Right, that's what I am saying. If we flash a custom rom this file would not then be needed by us, the "non-programmers"

Script to odex your deodexed ROMs

I found this script somewhere on XDA when trying to figure out how to reodex a Gingerbread ROM. It worked perfectly for toadlife's Clean3G ROM. I just installed all my customizations first, then rebooted again into CWM and ran this. It will look like it's frozen for a while. Just give it 5 to 10 minutes to complete.
I always wondered why people deodexed...
sent from my always aosp epic
wont this break the no ciq patch?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
No. The reason I ended up doing this is that I wanted the No CIQ patch but I also wanted to remain ODEXED.
Hmm interesting, might try it out later and at the person asking why make deodexed: its because mods and themes are easier to make with deodex and odex is very limted to what u can do on themes and mods
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Sorry for the total n00b question, but why would I want to make a ROM odexed again?

Generally it makes your boot times faster and overall smoother loading i believe
Not to mention it saves a good amount of space since odexed APKs and JARs use less room.
I did some digging and found this: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide
So, it's only the first boot that's slower? But, I guess it does save space overall, so that's probably reason enough to do it.
I remember tanimn did something like this a while back for EC05 I believe. Good stuff

Just nandroid your system before indexing if a new mod comes out restore deodexed nandroid apply mod and reodex
Sent from my Epic - auto correct mistakes and all.
Actually, i found that if i edit the mods script to include deleting the associated Odex file, then flashed it and rebooted back to CWM, I was able to run the odex script again and it would Odex the new file. Worked for me when I installed the silent Camera mod.

[KERNEL][STOCK] UCLD2 Leak CWM flashable

STANDARD DISCLAIMER

As usual, not responsible if flashing this causes any issues. All I can say is I have verified it to be working on my device running the new leak.
Thanks to DesignGears and the "Unknown Source" of course for the leak, this obviously wouldn't be possible without them. Here is the thread with full leak ODIN torrent (just in case).
04/15/2012:
Here is the stock boot.img that is CWM flashable. Usual things that are done:
* init.d (via run parts)
* adb root
* adb bash
* bootanimation (drop your anim as bootanimation.zip in /system/media)

This is the *unofficial* JellyBean leak for the Skyrocket (specifically ATT SGH-I727). I had to stitch this together from a loaded device. I believe it is as close to unadultered version (99.99%), it appears it works with existing bootloaders for our device.
NOTE: The kernel and radio are included in the zip. There are separate threads in the forum that should give you the radio and kernel (insecure) see optional stuff section for links.
I will provide a DEODEXED version Later....No ETA

* If you try to flash any other kernel (like my Cymbaline or AOSP derivatives) you are GURANTEED a soft brick, and most probably a hard brick.

INSTALLATION

I have only flashed this in CWM 6 recovery by sk8 (specifically 6.015 v14). It is critical that whatever recovery you use support format command and do what it is supposed to do, otherwise you will have a soft brick. And no, I am NOT going to answer any questions for recovery errors nor I have the time to try out all the recoveries.
1) Download the zip (choose either odexed or deodexed, see comments in the downloads section) and transfer it to your device.
2) (optional) download any optional stuff (like busybox su pack), insecure kernel and transfer it to your device.
3) Do a Nandroid backup.
4) Did you do Step 3) ? Do it NOW
5) Format /system
6) Format /data
7) Wipe Data and Cache partition. (you can skip 6, if you have this option in your recovery).
8) Flash the ROM zip, first.
9) (Optional) flash any optional stuff if you wish. (like su pack and insecure kernel)
10) boot the device and WAIT BE PATIENT.
11) Flashing will be successful: You will see the Samsung JB bootanimation, then you will see SAMSUNG logo (glow animation), at this point your touchkey lights should be on (dalvik cache being built). If the touchkey lights are not lit up, you are soft bricked, go back to recovery, wipe data and cache and reboot.

2. There Is A Sub Menu Where You Can Block Numbers From Calling
3. A New Lockscreen Option Call Motion Where You Can Hold any Point Of The Screen And Simply TIlt The Phone Towards You To Unlock
4. A New Menu Called Home Screen mode Where you can basically change the predefined layout of the home screen.
5. A New Keyboard.
