the last couple of days i had to charge my touch pro almost twice per day (heavy usage). I also watched the battery drain very fast.
I have been using a custom taskbar with 1% battery icons. Yesterday i accidentally removed the battery for the taskbar (using the clock now instead) and for some reason i feel that the battery lasts longer. I still have 7/10 bars since yesterday now (2 of them were because i was playing diamond twister which sucks your battery up though).
please noone flame with comments like this is bs etc..as i said i THINK this is the case..i will report back how long it lasts..You are welcome to try it.
It could have something to do with the battery status refresh interval
I have definitely heard that some of the custom battery monitors are huge memory whores because of the problem you noted- they are constantly polling and therefore leading to a heavy drain. If you think the one you installed is doing it I bet it is doing it.
For some reason when I fully charge my phone using the usb , it last much longer. Don't know why. Otherwise my battery is very erratic. I really can't pinpoint any program. I charged my phone in the car for a 3hr trip and then it lasted all day w/hardly any drain...weird... If I turn off the phone and charge via usb, it is the best for me.
ive had loads of htc phones over the years and i agree that custom battery icons do IMHO drain battery alot more
a bit off topic.. but when i got my tp i installed everything i wanted... then uninstalled the things i didnt want.. on and on for about a week..
using sk tools to clean up invalids from uninstalled software..
battery lasted 4 hours...
so i got all the softwares i wanted...
and for some reason, i had to do a hard reset...
so i installed
WAD
WIS
pA
Flexmail
and then the rest of the software i knew i wanted...
for some reason the hard reset... changed something i did, now TP lasts 10-12 hours..
with it checking email every 10 minutes, weather every hour, and me constantly messing with it.
so just a thought.
Same thing happened with my Fuze and also my Tilt.
I dont think that battery drainage is the problem. The battery meter is just inaccurate. I was able to get 8-10 hours of usage before. Now it lasts 2 days with the same usage.
Hi,
I bought an HP iPAQ 214 a few days ago and I'm concerned with the battery. I gave it a full charge (it reported 100%) and when I unplugged it, it dropped to 92% almost immediately. After draining the battery (which took about half a day with casual use) I gave it another full charge. This time it did not do the initial big drop, but it still seemed to drain faster than I felt it should.
For example, if I have a remote desktop session open for 2 1/2 minutes and browse the web for 2 1/2 minutes (example of 5 minutes use) I will loose between 3 and 5%. This battery is 2200mAh; I have an old model which has a 1100mAh and this battery seems better!
I can't find in any specifications of this model the estimated battery life. I believe I will get 3 or 4 hours at best, does that seem right? Maybe I'm just used to my netbook lasting twice, if not, three times as long as that and my phone lasts about a week with casual use. I feel I will need to charge the iPAQ once, if not two times a day; is that normal?
Are there any things I can try or does this battery seem bad?
Thanks for any advice
Hi all,
Whats the battery life you people are getting? and also the charge time taken for a full charge. Lets dedicate this thread for posting details about battery life.
Mine is below,
Battery Life : 1 to 1.2 days.
With live widgets and gtalk : less than 22 hrs.
Avg charge time : 4 hours(Too lond )
I got 14 hours with 4hours of wifi...anyway to increase battery life...even when its idle it dropped from 100 to 80...that is without use,is it normal?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
Yes its normal & that happens bcoz your data connection remains on which eats battery, if you want to increase battery life you can use free APNdroid widget with this you can switch ON/Off the data connection. Else use juice defender or tasker they both can save battery life to quite an extent. Both have trial version.
In the night I switch to airplane mode & keep my data connection off hence I get 1.5 day of battery usage sometimes even more, if I don't surf the web then I get full 2 days of battery usage.
Charge time 4hours but I have heard that HTC charger can charge faster & gives longer battery life due to current difference. I will try this weekend borrowing it from a friend.
I think I am the first one to Vote. My usage is mainly calls. 1-2 hours of calling. 1 hour at XDA using XDA application with 3g on. 1-2 hours of playing around with the Phone and gallery etc. But with heavy usage, battery life is just enough to come back home and charge after 8 PM. My battery goes down by 3-4% after over night standby not 20% as mentioned in the above post.

This is more dependent on the tower distance near your home & its data signal strength, there are people for whom night time usage is only 1-2% ideal.
Do you feel if i flash a different firmware i would get a better battery life...

Usage with gprs usage of about 3o mins surfing, email sync, lil chat & fb i barely get thru the day and am at arnd 15-30% by 7pm.
I guess mine's pretty bad eh ?
Overnight i tend to lose about 7%

switch in the night to airplane mode & see how much drain happens.
Well, I have a moderate usage of almost all features (call, mail, camera, music, net radio, browsing, etc.) and it lasts for about 1.5 days.
Yea, full charge time is pretty long if you do not switch off your phone while charging.
Battery life in the long run depends if you have maintained a few golden tips for new batteries:
After unboxing, fully charge the battery in switched off condition. For the first 10-15 charge-discharge cycles, let the battery fully drain and the phone to automatically shut off. Then charge fully and switch on the phone. Avoid charging while phone is on or has quite a bit of charge.
I had a Nokia N91 and following above steps, the battery gave promising backup even after 4 years! Sadly, I lost the phone in Jan this year and bought the i9003.
DEAD CHARGER
Recently my i9003 bundled charger got fked up somehow... it just stopped charging the phone; had a few languishing days charging off the data cable off my laptop. Took to nearest service centre with a photocopy of the bill and it was instantly changed with a similar 700MA charger but of different shape.
Oh, I seemed to find a friend who is the tech there and jumped the long queue! LOL
I get about 24-28 hours battery life. I calibrated my battery after flashing to XXKB3 and I think that brought the best out of the battery. Running SuperPower and I mainly use Wi-fi while surfing.

how long is ur charge time with 700mA Charger?
I agree with the OP about seriously long time to charge! I had an X10 earlier and that used to fully charge in 2.5 hrs, but this takes really long. To just reach 100 from 90 it takes like about an hour!
well mine since i flashed 2.3.4 only stays for 18 hrs max with less than average usage only talk in for 1 hrs 2g maybe and browse use ebook for 1 hr maybe that is all when i used froyo 2.2.1 it used to stay for 1.5 day
any ideas of wht i can do i did battery calibration and am using xda super power
on xxkph i was getting about 15hrs with amits oc 1.1
after flashing xxkpm i seem to be blown away
im using xxkpm and cf root by skin and im getting 1 day 5 hrs with heavy usage and 2 days 4 hrs on moderate usage
well mine is jxkp3 cause it have arabic in it's languages but do u think this could be the reason why my battery is so low and fast drained it is also rooted

Kind of makes me sad though. The device feels good in my hand and I like it overall, but the battery performance is unacceptable for me. I went to bed with it having something like 93% (dropping from 100% after like 15min of play). Not even 6h later I wake up and when I look at it, the battery is already drained to 85% only from standby (Yes,always-on mobile data is deactivated, power efficiency is on). After playing with the unit in train and some browsing while commuting for 30min, its already at 70% or something. During the next few hours, while working, I was just checking mails, using whatsapp from time to time and writing a few messages. No surfing, no videos no games.
By 3PM the battery was at 15%. Even worse, the damn thing takes some 4h+ to fully charge. That's just too damn long, my iphone 3gs charges fully in about an hour. What is also very frustrating is that the Sensation discharges a good portion of its current as pure HEAT. Never saw a phone get this warm afer 15min of normal usage.
I knew battery wasn't going to be stellar but this just sucks. Most of all that a full charge takes 4h. fail :-/
EDIT: Ok guys the 2.3.4 update did the trick! The battery now chrages fully within 2h and battery life has ridiculously improved!
I took it off the cord around 8am this morning. Now it's 2pm and my battery is at 83 with some 46min screen time and slight usage. Also the heating seems to be gone.
Apart from that, everything runs smoother with the new update. Guess I'm gonna keep the little guy after all
However, I did order 2 extra Ankers + charger (25$!) as additional mobilty is never wrong.
Before you return it, I recommend that you call HTC support and request a warranty exchange for the phone and battery.
You may have a defective unit.
While my battery isn't stellar, I get a minimum of 10 hours before I drop below 20% life (always-on mobile data off, manual syncing, not too many widgets).
Your phone battery performance is not indicative of Sensation battery performance for the overall majority.
Most have said that the battery gets better after a few full charges/discharges, and the todays new update is supposed to improve battery performance. Many people say the Sensation is better than most other 4G phones.
I dont play games and such, mostly phone text and email and it lasts me a day and a half. There is also a better battery you can get.
That charging time is ridiculous, which leads me to believe that your unit and/or battery is defective.
Mine charges from 15% to 100% in 2 hours. Same for almost everybody elses phone.
You might want to reconsider and try warranty exchange mentioned earlier. Also, I would suggest the ChiChi battery. I'm running from 7:30 to about 4:00 with my WiFi hot spot turned on for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I'm using my phone for calls, texts etc., my battery still has about 30% left when I leave work.

Dude , custom rom and anker / chitec battery.
My first time with my new anker achieved almost 24 hours on battery and almost 4 hours screen time with quite alot of use during that time.
Totally destroyed my oem battery in every way.
Also I would do a Warranty Exchange and with the new update I have seen a big differance in 2.3.4 vs 2.3.3 in terms of battery life and speed of Sense in general. I purchased a Anker 1900mah battery for $10 and fully charged to dead I get on average about 17-20 hours and I would say I'm a good moderate to HEAVY! user. Switching back to a stock battery after calibrating with the Anker Battery has also improved battery life seeing that I get between 12-14 hours with stock now. I would charge to 100% go to bed and wake up with about 97%-98%

+1 I agree 110%, Try this though Calibrate the Anker Battery then fully charge your stock battery and see what battery life you get.

Get a anker battery and download leedroid/android revolution/insertcoin. I guarantee you won't want to return it than. When I first got my device I was thinking about doing the same thing but after I looked through the thread I saw people were getting better results with the anker or chichi. Don't be discouraged that its a third party. It actually out performs the stock battery and embarrasses it.
Also download calibrate battery from the market.

I had terrible battery life for the first week or so. 6 to 8 hours max, and 2 hours screen time if I was lucky. After conditioning the battery by fully discharging then fully charging on the AC adapter for a few cycles, it corrected itself for the most part. Yesterday I had 15 hours with 3 hours screen time and still had 20+ percent left. I have a chichtech battery sitting in my mailbox right now waiting for me to get off work.

really appreciate the good advice guys, thanks. I have done my bit of reading here and many many people here report having around 4h charge timr (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154780)
So you guys can not confirm this? If so, it might be my battery is faulty. I will upgrade to 2.3.4 and calibrate. Probably will improve battery time, I doubt however it will reduce the charge time...
Something is definitely up. I just got my Sensation 10 days ago and am still stock. It takes me ~2 hours to fully charge, and that's with me using the phone like crazy while its charging....and the phone light on the entire time.
And I get a good full days use out of it....sometimes 2 days if I dont use the screen much and just phone text email.
IT'S ALIVE!!!

Also check if your phone is always awake because I had this and it had a huge affect.
I easily get 16-20 hours with LeeDroid's ROM.
i had the same battery issue with my first sensation. Even after several cycle of charging - discharging, battery calibration, the battery would not last for more than 7-8 hours. i exchanged it , for first couple of days, it didn't hold the charge for long,.but after i did battery calibration and update to 2.3.4, now my battery will last for 12 to 14 hours with moderate use. doesn't get hot with normal use, but over the weekend , i use map navigation and temp reached 48C. I think, i should not use it as GPS for longer than few minutes, or it may burn the phone.
Juice Defender Ultimate is definitely worth the tiny amount of money it costs. Just got just over 3 days on my Sensation, admittedly i hardly used it.
Usually i get a good 22 hours from it with medium use.
HTC sensation
Just replace the battery and you will see the difference.. my phone last ast least 10 hours.. its just amazing....
I lose almost no charge while it sits on standby.
I work 12 hour shifts, I listen to Music the entire time, browse, login to home computers for about 30 minutes using Teamviewer and keep up with RSS feeds throughout.
By the end of shift I'm down to 5%.
Sounds like you need a replacement, rather than a return, bud.
I just replaced the original battery that came with my phone in October 2010. The battery would drain 2% per minute while reading a book on the Kindle app. Actually any screen usage would do the same. It would also go down to 10% then shutoff then I would leave it alone for a few hours, reboot and the battery went to 50% with no charging. Then I would plug it in and it would go to 100% in a few minutes. Impossible. With very little use the battery would last 10 hours.
I put in a new HTC OEM battery that I bought of Amazon for like $6. It's been running for over a day with very heavy use and I am having trouble draining the battery to calibrate the phone. It's friggin AWESOME.
I think the old batteries are having some kind of problem or just getting old. It seemed like a heat problem where the longer the battery was used the faster it would drain and then stop completely. Then left alone it would show the correct charge.
Other people in various threads were having the same problem. Hopefully someone can figure something out.

It could be newer battery technology. I mean, the MT4G is nearly two years old at this point. Can you post a screenshot of your battery use? It seems that the standard for judging a battery is screen on time. How much are you getting? For $6 I would gladly invest in a new battery if we can get some numbers to back this up.

I just started using the battery so I don't have real good stats yet. However, the charging is also taking a lot less time. My old battery took about 6 hours to charged from 5%. This should be done in about 2-3 hours.
nope - no issues on my OE battery here... last me for a day 1/2 with minimal activity (checking emails, fb). Guess i'm just lucky?
I have to agree, check your batteries. I just checked mine and it is turning oval like. Time for a new one

may i also add that i've had my device for almost a year now using an OE batt and still going strong.
Lithium Ion batteries begin to degrade as soon as they're manufactured. They only have a few years shelf life. Poor charging habits will shorten them I already replaced mine months ago.

I see - i'm very critical of overcharging my phone. I have clocked mine the other day to see how fast it'll charge up from 30% to 90% and it took an hour and 15 mins almost... to me that's respectable.
I recommend buying the Anker battery for this phone. It really improved my battery life. Before I would only get 1.5-2 hours of screen on time before needing to charge my phone. http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1550mAh...d=1341178398&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+mytouch+4g
