I have to sent in my A700 to Acer for repair because it won't charge anymore.
I flashed back to a full Stock ROM 4.1.1 (RV16RC01_EMEA_DE) but the problem is that I cannot re-lock the bootloader with fastboot oem lock (boot.img is not an official image)
I have NOT rooted or modified the ROM in any way.
So is there still a way to lock the bootloader??
I need to quickly find a solution because I only have 17% battery left.
No there is no way at this moment to relock the bootlader.
any experience that it will void the warrenty?
I'm not willing to pay over 100euros for repair just because there is an hardware failure that is not related to software.
Maybe you can flash an ICS stock FULL Rom, it will relock the bootloader (ics's one) and do not upgrade to JB( or your bootloader will be unlocked).
And then send your tab (with ICS) to repair
will do that.

Did it work?
yes I flashed an older ICS ROM.
Apperently its a beta but it worked.
nice
good tot know, thanks!
Warranty has nothing to uploading your own software or open bootloader unless acer proves that it was the cause of damage to the equipment.
I had a problem with the a210, and although it was open bootloader and uploaded custom ROM for the duration of the warranty.
ACER exchanged motherboard under warranty.
Any chance you could give a step by step for flashing the ICS full rom back?
I tried this but got stuck on the Iconia boot animation.
I can get back to jb but with unlocked bootloader...

I "thought" I tried at, but its VERY possible I didn't.
Should the need arise again I'll definitely remember to do so.
Thanks for the reply!

Hi Guys, as subject really! Is it possible to get the phone in a "Google" state to pull down updates, obviously meaning the impending ICS one!
B
I'm implying that you're on a custom ROM at the moment. You'll have to flash one of the stock ROM images, then you can get OTA's again.
It doesn't matter if you're rooted or have an unlocked bootloader.

Hey mate, thankyou for helping. I've not actually received it yet, bought one off ebay and I am just pre-empting - If you flash stock does the root and unlocked bootloader become standard again??
(I'm upgrading from an old Galaxy 3, so am reasonably familiar with flashing, but want a simple life now and am going stock Google )
B
Nope, flashing a stock image will not affect your bootloader being unlocked. You'll have to run the "fastboot oem lock" command to lock the bootloader again. Check one of the turorials here

//edit: Actually, I'm suddenly not sure of this. Sunday evenings' got me confused. Please wait for someone else to verify.
Thankyou I'll have a look round
I have been flashing several ROMs using ROM Manager and the bootloader wasn't affected by this. The stock OTAs kept unrooting the phone though.

That's normal, the OTA's reset the permissions on key folders, effectively SU looses it's execute permissions, removing root. What i do now is download the OTA to the SD card, apply it, re-apply the SU.zip to keep root, modify the restore-recovery script so i can keep CWM, then reboot.
I'm not sure how it's going to go with ICS, but we shall see.
I needed to lock the A700 again for warranty I tried to lock the A700 with fastboot oem lock but I got this message on the tablet
Please flash official system.img and try again
Confirmlockmode: lockmode verified failed
Where to get this system.img?

Yeah i'm stuck now with this too.
I had my a700 unlocked and rooted. I removed the root by installing a stock rom from this list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720157
Then everything went fine, and I updated again to jelly bean. Clockworkmod recovery is also gone.
But now i see that unlock bootloader mode is still activated!!
I tried the fastboot oem lock trick but the tablet says "the system.img is not a offical one"
What does this mean?? What do I do?
I'm just afraid that Acer will reject the RMA of my a700 (camera doesn't work anymore)

Hi,
Maybe a bit late, but I can tell you I already sent my a700 twice in RMA with unlocked bootloader and custom rom, and they were both time properly repaired (and they re-install each time stock Rom and loader).
It is just as if your laptop webcam was broken and that you have Ubuntu as OS instead of the original windows.
They only charge you extra if it is software related problem (for example webcam hardware is fine, just Ubuntu driver is not working).
cheers,

Yeah I know Acer amready repaired my A700 and even left the bootloader unlocked! Thx Acer!
Guys,
a post with a flashable bootloader for both ICS and JB would be useful.
I've borked a JB rom and my CWM backups were not working because of the bootloader.
I had to flash ASUS stock back to get the bootloader.
Some zip files would be useful in case someone wants to go back to ICS
Much appreciated.
Abe
what if the JB bootloader sets some e-fuses and reverting to the ICS bootloader bricks the tablet?
without NVFLASH I wouldn't even attempt such a thing.

Asus wouldn't b that nice would they?
On Galaxy Nexus I do that all the time. They have an ICS bootloader and a JB one. I can check the version in Fastboot mode.
I am trying to flash some JB ROMS and if I fail all my CWM backups are useless since the bootloader is the incorrect one..
The tab gets stuck after restoring I assume because of the incorrect bootloader.
Thanks
Abe
I attached the ICS bootloader, I would strongly suggest you wait until NVFLASH
for the tf300t is released to mess with the bootloader because you have no way
back if it does not work (no fastboot).
I Will

Yea,
any news on NV flash?
I saw a tweet from Asus in some thread saying that they are not going to support it at ALL.
I hope is not true
Thanks for the zip.
Always good to have files just in case.

In the official cm10 thread it states that nvflash is not going to work with the jellybean bootloader. I think they where close to a release before jellybean dropped.
here is the post.

As the title says. I uploaded the tf300 firmware while rooted and an unlocked bootloader. I had twrp
I've heard that flashing the 'update' removes root and relocks the bootloader.
I really have no idea how to go back to ICS but i've read that theres a way. I just can't find any clear directions.
just download the new rom from asus and flash it in recovery.
when it reboots you will be back to stock with new bootloader.
I thought the bootloader went untouched by reflashing the stock ROM? (I might be mistaken here, but isn't that the entire issue with not being able to get back to the ICS bootloader after flashing the JB bootloader?)
New ROM has a new boot loader which will flash over jb.

No you can't relock. Not sure where the op may have heard that as I have not seen it posted anywhere.
Might be confused with losing root?

It was removed from the asus site, could you provide a link?
Also....do I need to rename it to anything and place it anywhere specific? Because I have already tried and it doesnt work for me. When i go into recovery i get the android with the exclamation point in red. So....idk....
its there i just looked.
you do need to unzip it since it is double zipped for some reason.
then flash as usual.
i was thinking of unlocking my device and changing the rom.. however, ive permanently bricked this tablet for and had to have it repaired at a high cost, so im cautious.. i believe i fell victim to the having the twrp and resetting via the bootloader problem... how do i avoid this, how do i prevent this from happening again? i cant use nvflash, and is there any way of changing this annoying bootloader?

If using the wrong version of custom recovery vs bootloader can brick your device. The best way to approache this is, first upgrade your device to the latest JB .25, then unlock your device, then use fastboot to push your latest twrp recovery (2.3.3.0), then flash custom rom. Pretty much straiht forward without risk.

do i still need twrp installed or do i use fastboot for that?.. also i had to downgrade to 9.4.5.30 to root it first, should i need some kind of root protection before upgrading back to JB?

You don't need to root if you're unlocked because all custom roms are pre-rooted. Maybe this will be clearer;
Let pretend you're on JB, if you are on ICS, just use OTA upgrade to JB.
1. use Asus unlock tool to unlock (the tool will work with ICS or JB and very safe to use)
2. Use fastboot to push TWRPcustom recovery to your device
3. Boot into TWRP to flash custom rom (now have custom rom and rooted).
Done.

Yes, "fastboot flash recovery ... " installs a recovery.
I rooted mine when I had ICS and used OTA rootkeeper to OTA to JB to keep root. Unlocked it then used Goomananger (required root) app from the market to install TWRP. I like goomanager as you dont need to hook it up to your pc and was pretty easy. If you're already rooted I would go this route to install custom recovery.

I was just as hesitant as you are. Took the leap yesterday and I am VERY happy I did. CROMI turns this baby into a whole new experience!
Just follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833212
Read it, follow all the links, read it again and when you feel you really understand the process, follow it step by step.
The whole process turned out to be a breeze - especially compared to the trepidation I had about this

Best rom is CleanRom version 3.2.1.
ok.. well it seems i have twrp installed just fine now, used the fastboot method... im going to try cleanrom a bit, and try out the ubuntu LXDE rom as well, ill try cleanrom first
it looks as if everything was successful, and i made it past the stage that caused a brick before, so i would say im in the clear now, tried clean rom, pretty cool you can choose your stock launcher but i really want to experiment with ubuntu on it as well with a mouse and keyboard, see if i can replace my netbook with this
