[Q] Battery Issues - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, my belove it Asus Eee pad transfomer is experiencing some battery issues. It has not been two months since I had this tablet and the battery wont charge and the tablet will not turn on with power cord plug into the outlet. I flashed the ROM with 4.1 later with Rom 4.2.1
My question is if it could be a bug with the ROM? How can i tell if its a rom issue or tha battery. Also, can defaulting it back to factory settings fix this???

SOLVED - Kinda [Q] Keyboard Dock Battery will not charge

Hi everyone,
I was using the megatron 1.0.1 rom and I doubt it has anything to do with my problem, but did happen right after flashing this rom for the first time. I left the tablet docked in the keyboard dock in sleep mode for a few days only to come back to it completely drained. I don't think it was deep sleeping for some reason but I didn't look into it to much. I charged it back up through the keyboard dock, but now the battery widget is displaying 0% on the keyboard dock and will not charge it anymore. The light on the side always stays solid orange, never blinks and never goes green anymore. I have since changed to the latest ASUS official firmware in hopes to revive it with official firmware.
I tried a few suggestions with no luck. This is what I tried.
1. Reset battery stats and Cold reboot
2. Allow wake on keyboard, allow it to deep sleep and then wake it with keyboard press
3. Fully charge tablet with power adapter, turn off, change power adapter to keyboard dock and then reseat tablet and let it turn on automatically.
4. Leave it plugged in USB for a few hours.
5. Charge just the dock without the tablet seated.
I'm looking for any suggestions and hopefully someone who has solved the problem??
It is no longer under Warranty so RMA is not an option.
Thanks for any help.
Hi, i have the same problem. But i'm using Megatron 1.0.4 keyboard blinks orange all the time with the tablet docked and without it. I would also know if anyone have a solution for that. i didn'T tried to go to stok to see if it help.
The wake on Keypress is part of the ASUS official firmware and I saw a suggestion to try that to get the battery charging. Also I wanted to ensure I had the latest dock firmware incase ASUS put a fix in to revive the battery to start charging again. Does you battery widget also say 0%?
Blinking orange means below 5% I believe, and does the blinking orange stop when the tablet is not connected? If it blinks with the tablet disconnected from the keyboard dock, try contact cleaner of the dock connector, something might have shorted pins making it believe the tablet is connected.
Yes, my battery widget says 0%. Now i have tried the latest cornerstone nightley of teameos and my dock now stopped blinking and shows green. that means its full charged. but the widget shows 0%. now i try my nandroid backup of stock rom. in the teameos nightley i havent an option with wake on keypress
Thats good, sounds like you got your fixed. Our problems are a bit different with the status of the dock LED, but glad yours is fixed. I tried eos nightly 24 as well when I first tried to solve the problem, but it made no difference to addressing my problem.
And the wake on keyboard option is only in the ASUS based roms like the official or Revolution, Revolver, Frozn roms which are all based off the ASUS roms. Its in the ASUS option in settings.
Hoping someone will see this thread that might have a good suggestion.
Yes, i hope someone can help you out. my dock behaviour is now how it should be. green when fully charged, but the dual battery widget shows 0% for the dock. no wi try to restore my nandroid of stock rom and the first try failed with an error while restore the "/data"...i try it again after wipe everything. hope the widget will work on stock. But i will try again the megatron rom. Its the best i tried for now. TeamEos have some potential but Megatron is very fast and stable for me...with the only one problem with the dock battery
EDIT: Now it seems like i have fixed all. I have restored my nandroid of stock rom and then it worked with the widget correct. Now i install again the Megatron 1.0.4 Rom and voila it shows the battery icon and the dual battery widget how it should be. hope you will have succsess on your problem

Thats great, glad you've got it working right. So your solution was simply just flashing another rom and then back to stock and you were fixed?
I'm noticing another problem now, and not sure if it is at all to do with this. I was at 40% battery in my tablet last night. I turned it off, and I left it in the keyboard dock. When I woke up this morning and tried to turn in on, it wouldn't turn on. Plug it back in the outlet and let it turn on and it is 0% So somehow its still draining really quickly while being off. I need to test without the keyboard dock attached to see if it is some how sucking the battery out of the tablet. It now does the reverse of what its suppose to do, instead of giving power, it takes power from the tablet.
Weird issues, I might call ASUS and find out what it costs to repair this vs just buying another. Not having much luck on the forums with anyone else having this exact issue.
The quick battery drain is called a "Sleep of Death, or SOD" it's an ICS issue, nothing we can do untill ASUS fixes the firmware, as for the dock, try discharging the tablet completely then charging the dock and seeing if it will then charge the tablet. If so it's probably an indicator light/widget issue, flashing back to stock then back to ROM should fix it. Also check your connectors for debris/etc.. as suggested above.
Well good news for me, I called ASUS last night about the problem and the opened an RMA and told me to send it in. I wasn't going to mention the warranty already expired, and they didn't say anything when I gave them my serial number, so it was defiantly worth the effort. I will report back once I receive the dock, but to anyone that has a similar issue that can't be solved like mine, its worth the call to ASUS to see if they will still cover it. I think mine is more hardware problem then a software glitch.
Well just to end this thread and marked it as solved, I just wanted to comment that the only fix for mine was RMA. It seemed like a hardware problem, but perhaps just a coincidence that I also installed Megatron Rom just before. Anyways, if you find yourself in my situation, try ASUS RMA dept. I was out of warranty, they either didn't know or didn't care and RMA'd it for me. Thanks ASUS for the new keyboard dock, works perfectly again!

Keyboard causing tablet to shutdown?

Is anyone having issues with the keyboard causing the tablet to turn off? It's not doing it while I'm using it just when I close it the tablet turns completely off sometimes. I've had the tablet for several weeks and had no issues but just got the keyboard a few days ago and now it has random shutdowns. Example: On break at work I closed my tablet and walked approximately 50ft to my workstation opened it back up to plug in the speakers to listen to Pandora and the tablet was off, not like stuck in sleep mode but completely off had to hold power for 1-2 secs it vibrated and thee boot logo came up. Would like to know if I should contact Asus or if it might just be a bug in the ROM.

Happens to me sometimes, too.
Happens all the time here.
There is a thread about it.
No solution so far.
I have returned my tablet 3 times to my reseller (it's currently in their hands), who RMAed it to Asus once. I have no info about what they've done.
After the last RMA, it took 2 days before the trouble occurred again and it usually occurred after a 10-15mn sleep. After a few days it occurred instantly.
Tablet is full stock, wiped again and again, reflashed, whatever. Full charge, middle charge is the same.
I do hope for a replacement this time.

That's a different problem, I was having having that issue when i was running earlier versions of CleanROM but since the 3.1 update I haven't had that issue. That issue the tablet is frozen or stuck in sleep my issue is the tablet is off completely. But there are are others in that thread posting about having issues similar to mine.

I think the shutdown may caused by a few issues, no don't considered every shutdown is the same. One maybe hardware, one maybe hardware. I suggest to try everything before you ship it back. In my case, I removed my keyboard dock and charge it over night BY ITSELF, then charge your tablet also by itself, put them together then I do a factory reset, then re flash a full Asus firmware. After that I never seen this issue again.
I'll try that when I get the chance but I turned the power save setting for the keyboard on and it stopped shutting down.

I've had my keyboard for a few weeks now. I shut the keyboard and open all the time. I have it so I can wake the tablet with the keyboard. Never had the tablet shutdown by itself. I'm stock, rooted and locked.

It will most likely be the USB cable. Order a new sync cable and I'm confident that will resolve your problem.

Ahh this is another issue altogether, seen a few threads relating to this issue of dock stuck at 0%, dock should normally say 3% charge, there are methods/ ideas on fixing it, ull have to do some googling. as i dont have time atm (hint: http://www.transformerforums.com/) good luck.
If your dock battery went completely flat, there is a chance that a switch inside the dock changed state to disable dock battery charging.
Why it does this, I have no idea. But if you think you can handle opening the dock (2 screws under the back feet then slowly snap it apart from one of the back corners) and look for a switch to toggle. I am pretty sure it is the only toggle switch inside the dock.
I've got the same problem... I'll probably open it up at some point but before I do does anyone know if this could be a firmware issue? I got my tf101 and immediately started flashing stuff on it and didn't even check to see if I was running ICS. I know that there was a dock firmware update that came with ICS and I'm curious if this issue is related.

I have the same problem. But I found out the dock Battery connector & the pad Battery connector is the same so I remove both connector. use the pad to charge up the dock Battery. Finally saw 1% on my dock Battery after 5 min. Hope that everything goes well.

Getting 9% charge now......
Edit. After charging overnight when connect back still in 0% state. Look like it will remain 0% forever.
I am having the same issue with the base not charging the tablet AND I am also have an issue where the SD card is not recognised by the OS.
Did you have the same issue with the SD card reader?

Tablet won't charge without being docked

This is probably a long shot and I'm assuming I will be doing an RMA, but thought I'd ask anyway...
I just noticed that my tablet will not charge without being docked. I typically always keep my TF700 docked and only detach the tablet every so often (to play games on the crapper, or in bed, etc.) A few nights back, I decided to charge it without putting it back in the dock. Woke up and it was dead. No charge. Put it in the dock and plugged the charger in. Charged fine. Thought it was just some fluke. Drained battery down to about 65% and gave charging just the tablet another shot. Nothing. Funny thing is, I noticed that if I turn the screen off, it will turn back on when I plug the charger in. It just doesn't charge.
When I use the charging USB cable to connect to my PC, the PC recognizes it just fine and the tablet kicks off ASUS PC sync tool.
Tried doing a cold boot. Didn't help. Haven't tried doing a factory reset yet, but will try that before I call ASUS for an RMA.
Since the charger works fine when charging the dock, it shouldn't be a charger issue. Since connecting the tablet to my PC with the USB cable works fine, the USB cable is good and the charging port on the tablet is at least recognizing connections (as well as the docking connection.)
I'm at a loss other than it's some sort of hardware issue with the charging port on the tablet that isn't working right for charging but is working fine otherwise.
Any help is appreciated before I bite the bullet and call ASUS.
Weird one.
I don't know the answer but have you tried a cold boot and full wipe? Just saying as that is what Asus will ask you to do.
Assuming you are locked stock as well?

Tried a cold boot but not a full wipe yet. That is my next step before calling Asus if I can't figure out any other way.
Edit: Also.. Yes, thankfully I left the tablet all stock to keep the warranty. I actually only have a TF700 because I was able to exchange my TF201 after that whole debacle. Needless to say, I'm probably done with Asus products.
Update: This morning I woke up and opened the tablet (it was docked) and the tablet and dock were very warm. The screen was also lit but frozen and the power button did nothing. Never had this happen before. Was able to reset it with the pinhole reset button and tablet cooled down and acted normal. I tried a factory reset to see if it changed anything with the charging issue, but it didn't.
Contacted Asus and got an RMA number.

No matter whatNRA brand you buy there will always be issues however the tf700 is the best tablet out there when nodded.

Just a final update for anyone who runs into the same issue. I just got the tablet back from Asus and it is charging fine now. Hopefully it stays this way. No idea what they did to fix it as it just says they repaired it in the description. Took 15 days for the whole RMA process.

[Q] Restore to default tablet with serious battery drain issue

Hello all,
I have a tablet TF101 B70 with what we think is a faulty battery which causes serious battery drain (charges up to 100% in a couple of minutes but discharges totally in 3-5 minutes as well).
Currently it's rooted, the recovery changed to TWRP and the ROM currently installed is EOS 4.2.2 I have a backup in the recovery of the previous stock ICS version by Asus.
I think I'll have to send it back to ASUS or the store I got it in for repair, and I would like to restore it to default values.
I know there are several guides here on how to do that but I need a method that allows me to keep the tablet connected to the wall charger, otherwise it might get bricked during the flashing period.
Thanks in advance for your responses
