Hello guys
First of all, i have red all main posts about this issue and could not find the answer i am needing; may be it is here somewhere, i just can not find it. My english is not perfect and this could be a problem when trying to find specific answers.
I have, through Revolutionary, done something to my phone that i cannot say they are well done... i tried to root it few years ago and i got stucked.
here is what is happening:
When i turn my htc on, whil pressing volume down, appears the so called white screen, saying this:

vol down - next item

My questions:
1) What does this all mean?
2) What should i do next to install (step by step) to install android 4.0 or a previous version just to see if it works??
Thanks for the attention/help guys.. sorry my english, but i just got stuck here!

You need a custom recovery like 4EXTrecovery to flash your rom, it will not work with stock recovery.

I have achieved S-off, now I can't put the clockwork on like it said in the development forum. any help?
Where exactly do i put this file?
I connected my phone and put disk drive, i moved the folder into the only drive that opens up with my phone. I tried just the recovery exe, same thing. help
Put the CWM file "PG58IMG.ZIP" on the top level of the SDcard. Then go into the HTC recovery (Poweroff/battery out & power on with volume down) and it should install itself.
EDIT: After the phone reboots make sure you rename/delete the file.
Did you follow this Thread ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
It works exactly like explained in step 2.
STEP 2. To INSTALL Recovery - v5.0.0.8
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation HERE: or Multiupload
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
6. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card and you can now root using step 3 below or install a custom ROM using CWM (Customs Roms are already rooted)
Thanx to xi VipeR ix
This way worked for me on different Sensations and an Incredible S.
Never could get those instructions to work. Ended up just using ROM Manager from the market.
Thanks Guys!
One more question, my connection says H instead of 4G now, what does that mean?
Noob alert, yes.
H is for HSDPA.
Can't help as to the why. There is a section in the FAQ about slow data connection that might be relevant.

Hi,
What ROM are you using?
You need to put this sort of information in your posts or signature.

Once I installed something, can't remember what, and I needed to re-install CWM. So I just leave a renamed version "cwm-4.0.1.4-PG58IMG.zip" in my case, just in case..........
Here's a detailed guide for all beginners who want to root Desire S with official 2.3.5 ROM using a PC with Windows Installed. I have personally tested this method on a few devices with a clean official ROM.
Notes:
This guide use the path "C:\Android" as example
Files preparation:
A) downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Put this file in the root directory of your memory card.
(You can always visit androidsu.com/superuser/ for a newer version. The above link is the version I used.)
B) download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-saga.img
Put this file in the directory containing "fastboot" and "AdbWinApi.dll" on your computer.
(You can always visit clockworkmod.com/rommanager for a newer version. The above link is the version I used.
Part I - Unlocking your Desire S and Installing ClockworkMod Recovery
1. Visit htcdev.com and unlock your Desire S first. Keep ALL files you downloaded from htcdev.com.
(A detailed guide is on that official website. At the moment, please choose "All Others Supported Models")
2. Ensure there is no file name as "PG88IMG.zip" in the root directory of your memory card. (The file may exist as you may have tried to root your device.)
3. Power off your phone.
4. Press and hold "Power" and "Volume-" buttons together until you a white screen with a few lines.
5. Use "Volume+" or "Volume-" buttons to choose "FASTBOOT", and press the "Power" button.
6. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.
7. Run "Command Prompt" and run the following command:
cd C:\Androidfastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-saga.img
Part II - Rooting Desire S with ClockworkMod Recovery
8. Power off your phone.
9. Press and hold "Power" and "Volume-" buttons together until you reach a white screen with a few lines.
10. Enter "RECOVERY"
11. Choose "install zip from sdcard"
12. Select "choose zip from sdcard"
13. Choose "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip"
14. Choose "Yes - Install Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip"
15. Turn on your phone. Install and test some root-required apps such as Titanium Backup/Root Explorer/ClockSync,etc
16. Then you are done. Enjoy
Good guide. You should add information about the difference between htcdev unlock and s-off. Just to let people know what they're doing and what could be done different.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
Agreed, for some, htcdev unlock means more unnecessary steps, over and over again.
Hello,
I hope unlock the Desire S bootloader.
At the HTCDEV site, HTC DESIRE S is not listed.
Can I select the normal HTC DESIRE or the HTC Desire HD ?

Thanks a lot for eyahl's and ammenRA's opinion.
My intention is keep this rooting guide as simple as possible.
And I think there is already a glossary out there, so I did not (and won't) post it here.
I hope you understand.

You don't have ClockworkMod Recovery in your SD card.
You should have flash(install) ClockworkMod Recovery directly into your phone through Command Prompt, which comes with a PC with Windows.
Make sure you are following the steps, especially Part I carefully.
yes i have clockwork recovery because when i start recovy it shows me normal clockwork program in which i can choose from sd card but that program which i should choose from sd card is missing i dont understand it ..
@poster
u forgot to mention that if they want to flash a ROM they need to also flash the boot.img of that ROM via fastboot.

How to remove Super user and get back to factory reset
I don't find the Factory reset option under privacy and the BootLoader Factory reset is not allowing to do as well. How do I remove Super User and get back to Factory Reset
Thanks for the useful guide...
I've managed to unlock the phone as instructed.
However, when following Part II of the guide, when I enter Recovery Mode I dont have the option to 'Install Zip from SD Card'.
Instead I get an image of a Phone with a red explanation mark. I have made sure that Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip is on the root of the sd card.
Any Ideas?
Thanks a lot

OK, I managed to figure this out, I had to press power and volume-up to get to the menu in which i'm then taken to the Andriod System Recovery <3e> menu.
There is no option called 'Install Zip from SD Card' however...
You didn't flash the custom recovery, or didn't do it correctly.
You're in stock recovery.
Please look at the guide, look at what you've done and see where you went wrong.
Thanks for that Jack_R1... How sure how I missed that.
Everything seems ok now. Thanks a lot!

Hi all,
Have followed the guide written above to the letter, and everything went smoothly without error..
I have the SU application installed. etc.
i booted in to make sure everything is ** unlocked **
and its stating:
** UNLOCKED **

am i missing one last step or has something gone incorrectly, im not sure i fully understand.
when i run the SU application from within the phone there is an update available. the SU app downloads the file and attempts to install it,. then fails "obtaining root".
Anyone got any ideas ? how i can get to the S-OFF or any links i can read ?

Hi guys, do you have CWM ROM for this Star N9330?
First you say it works good, and than you asked for CWM Rom?!?
So please choose, does CWM Rom work or not?
Star N9330
hi guys....is there something missing from the attached files or I do it wrongly? can't flash it using SPtools neither install it from SD card...any step by step guide on how to counter this matter? thanks in advance
1. turn off Phone and put out battery (usb cable is NOT plugged in)
2. start Flash SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1224.01 (flash_tool.exe) and choose "scatter loading"
3. choose from the folder "CWM_Bruno_N9330" the file called "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt"
4. there must be only one checkbox marked (recovery) - if not mark it and check if the phad is correct. ( you have to choose the file called "recovery.img" from the folder "CWM_Bruno_N9330"
5. now put battery back in phone again, click on button "download" accept the warning with "Yes" and THAN connect phone with usb to pc!
6. if all goes right, you should see a green circle with the message "download ok"
7. unconnect USB, put out battery for some seconds and put it back again
8. now you should enter the recovery mode by holding power-button and volume up-button at the same time
any questions?

TQ Mawe79...stuck at step3...when I load the "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt"...a notification pop up says "Error: Initializing scatter file failed. Please check the name of scatter file which you load is legal." any idea bro?
did you checked the path correct? Did you checked?
If you choose the rght file and the path is correct, maybe the file you have downloaded is corrupt?
So i would suggest...download again, and try again!
The CWM is Only CWM Recovery
Ya, The CWM Recovery is really work. But the CWM ROM is only CWM Recovery.
I need real ROM as like "CWM 10 Jelly Bean" for this Star N9330. Or may be CWM 9.

Probably I can help you:
1. Go to recovery
2. Plug your phone to your PC (USB)
3. I am using TWRP 2.6.3.0, for me on the homescreen I have a "Mount" button, click it, and press mount usb storage.
4. After a while you will see your phone internal memory plugged in as an USB disk.
5. Download any ROM you want, make sure that you are downloading ROM for your device (There is 2 types of HTC One S, Ville and VilleC2)
Perform a factory reset in recovery
6. Flash the ROM (press install and select the ZIP file) (Do not reboot! Stay in recovery)
7. On your PC create a folder called "fastboot" on C drive
8. Download the file from the attachment, and extract the 4 files from it to the folder which you created before
9. Still on your PC... open the ROM (ZIP file), and you probably have a boot.img file in it.
10. Extract the boot.img to "fastboot" folder
11. On your phone now... In recovery select "Reboot" and select Bootloader
12. Your phone will now reboot to bootloader, you will probably see FASTBOOT USB
13. open cmd
14. In cmd write this:
Code:
cd/
cd fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
After it says "Completed!" write:
fastboot reboot
15. Your phone will reboot and probably it will work
PS: Sorry for my bad english
EDIT: Hope you have already updated your phone to Jelly Bean....
Because if you was still on Ice Cream Sandwich then JellyBean ROMs will probably not work

Well i guess if you follow it step by step there won't be any problem. If you get stuck at some point just comment here. And installing adb is just like the normal installation of any setup files in windows.Regarding the flashing of twrp there is nothing much to do than the steps mentioned above. If you still need a video go for this.https://youtu.be/kmq2Eyzl3wA NOTE:This video makes use of files for the sd410 model,so don't use the files in that video.Get the files from this post. This video can make you familiarize the process, but steps mentioned here is slightly different.

There aren't any custom roms available till now.Try using xposed modules for improved functionality(serves the purpose of custom rom to great extent).

Try using gravity box after installing xposed framework. There a lot of graphical tweaks in gravity box.
Internal Storage Files Missing
After I flashed TWRP and then entered it, it asked for a password to decrypt my storage. I didnt set any password for my phone so I pressed cancel after which came the TWRP menu. But once I selected the install option so as to flash the supersu file, I was unable to find my zip file in it. When I searched for solution, they said it was because my storage is encryted that I was'nt able to acces the data. They adviced to format data through wipe option in TWRP. But still no use. And to add to the problem, when I tried to reboot into system, I was left with a black screen and couln't get to the homescreen.
Please consider my problem and hoping for your fast reply.

Boot back into twrp home screen - WIPE- FORMAT DATA , after that, also from twrp , REBOOT-RECOVERY, after that, go ahead and flash the root file and then try to boot into home screen.
Place the root file on an external sd card.

I guess you have copied the super su file to external sd card.Formatting data as mentioned by jide1 did remove the encryption for me.If it doesn't work do advanced wipe with only the data, cache and dalvik cache boxes checked.Note:don't check any other box. Then reboot into twrp.Go to mount in twrp and see that your external sd is mounted. Now access the external sd card in install option and you will find the files of super su.

Flash twrp again ,disconnect usb cable from pc, then press and HOLD "volume down" AND "power button" when device vibrates, RELEASE "power button" WHILE still holding "volume down" , that should do the job.
Need stock boot.img
I require the stock boot.img so if anyone is kind enough to upload it, ill be greatful. Or if anyone knows how to extract it from the raw image, that'd also be appreciated.
