Hello, Im tired of connecting the phone to my laptop everytime im going to flash a new rom, because i have the new hboot so i have to flash the image thru fastboot first than flash rom. So i found this app on the market is called FLASH IMAGE GUI, theres no free version for this its around 3 bucks to buy. What this does is you can flash any kernel (image) from the phone instead of doing it thru fastboot. You might need to download a file manager like " astro file manager " for example, than look for the room on your phone open it with astro and find the boot image file. Once you do find it copy and create a new folder so you wont get confused, for example if you have joker rom copy the boot image and create a folder called something like "joker boot image" it will be easier to find once you lauch FLASH IMAGE GUI app. Launch flash image gui app and browse for the image, once find it open it and the app will give you a CAUTION warning, read it and after that click yes if you want to continue.Than click on the "flash image" button once you do it is going to give you another message saying that you will need to reboot the phone otherwise the android UI will be unstable, is going to give you three options. Click on the option to boot into recovery , once you are in recovery do the same steps as usual when install a rom and install the rom for the image that you flashed thru the FLASH IMAGE GUI APP. After that reboot and enjoy!! preety simple. KEEP IN MIND THAT I ONLY HAVE TRIED THIS GOING FROM CM10/AOKP TO A SENSE ROM, I HAVENT TRIED GOING FROM A SENSE TO ANOTHER SENSE ROM SINCE CM10/AOKP ARE ROOTED WITH THE OPTION TO GO INTO RECOVERY MODE.
You can view the video here by Team Nocturnal on how to use it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP5dX23aZ1M
Here is where you can get the free version that I have been using : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33463871

ofcourse delete it, [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!
you can also select the whole zip file and flashimagegui will copy the needed modules and flash the boot.img for you.
it will have problems with roms that stick the boot.img in other folders though, for those you will need to extract the boot.img though.

hey
I recently created an application called Android Recovery Manager
The version on the other thread is V1.0.
My sensation has been stolen, so for the moment I can't test future updates for the application, and I don't wanna give up on developing it...
I had plans for the next releases, and it really took me lots of efforts to finish it, so I'd like to know if anybody is interested in testing?
The update is ready for testing anyway
Tell me what you think
Thanks!
I am assuming from the name of the app you must be rooted and more than likely have Clockwork Mod Recovery on your device as well correct?

Not at all, you only need S-Off
The application manages your recoveries, it can flash any recovery you want.
You can either install a recovery image from your computer locally, or let the program download a recovery for you from the always up-to-date list of recoveries.
You can check the other post for screenshots and more info
Anybody?
10 char.
I don't mind testing it out for you.

So here is the download link.
Please extract the "RecoveryManager.exe" before using it as there will be files generated next to it.
So, I'll need you to install any recovery (Stock or Custom) and send me the log file when it has finished (You'll find an XML file in the Log folder in the same place as the application)
I hope I'm not asking a lot
Thanks
The application has been downloaded 2 times, can anybody tell me the results please?
test version
Downloaded two recovery files for the XE and flashed the CWM 5020 again on my device.
Rebooted into OS, no problems sofar.
The programm is selfexplaining and you can stop before flashing and think things over.
When I restart the programm and want to search for an recovery file on my HDD its going to the last folder I was using before,
thats OK

I have an HTC sensation z7z10a. I purchased this phone to be able to get on AT&T's 3&4g frequencies without having to upgrade my unlimited data plan for non smart phones. So far so good, my phone gets 4g and AT$T is not aware that I have a smartphone.
Naturally after spending enough time in XDA and other phone forums to figure this out I became interested in flashing a custom ROM.
I used the revolutionary method to gain S-OFF, installed CWM, and used CWM to create a backup image. I've managed to fully wipe and then restore to my backup image, so CWM is working.
My problem is whenever I go to flash a custom rom I don't understand which file to select in recovery mode. Every zip I have downloaded, (including the one I need to finally get my phone rooted) opens up to a series of subfolders, none of which contain the files I need. The sub folders are typically : System, Data and META-INF. So I can't get rooted without being able to use the recovery mode to flash.
I used my friend's pc netbook in order to run Revolutionary and install CWM. Now I am using my Macbook Pro to download potential Roms zip files and move them onto my phones SD card. Could this be the problem?
I"ve searched and searched for and answer to this issue to no avail, please help me to figure this out. I'm stumped.
The zip you have to flash is the ROM you download...am I missing something?
You do not need to extract the zip file. Just put it on the SD card and then go to the recovery mode and select the option install zip from sd card and install it. I believe if you flash a custom rom, you would be automatically rooted, so no need to root it separately. Hope this helped

Thanks for this advice, this is my first time attempting this. I think you are right that most roms come with root access so I may be able to skip that step.
I know what you are saying, don't extract the file, just move the zip over as is. Only on my mac the files are arriving as a folder with subfolders, not a zip package. This HAS to be the problem! I will look harder for Mac info on downloaded zips to see if I can figure out why this is happening. Thanks again.
Update:
So I fixed the folder problem by going into safari settings and unchecking the open safe downloads box. No all the zip files I'm downloading are staying intact as zips.
However I just tried to flash revolution hd with no success. The full wipe zip for this rom was a failure as well. I will now try downloading the root zip again and see if rooting first helps at all.
So now I am rooted. Success!

Ah....Steve Jobs and his desire to prevent the user from doing anything useful strikes from beyond the grave.
This is why I won't touch a Mac. They want to do everything for you, even if it's not what you want or need to be done. On the plus side, at least you only have to push 1 button to get the Mac to do the wrong thing!
Glad you figured it out! Be careful with the ROM flashing though. It quickly becomes a life consuming obsession.
1. Download ROM
2. Download Gapps
3. Do a full wipe in recovery
4. Flash in TWRP or CWM recovery
5. Extract the boot.img and flash it with fastboot
Re the above installation instructions:
Do I have to download the ROM and Gapps on a pc then transfer to my phone or can I download using my phone?
Flashing in TWRP - I presume I have to flash both the ROM and Gapps, does it matter in which order this is done?
Thanks for any advice with this.
Paranoid Android 2.18
I'm experimenting with getting Paranoid Android up and running on my One S as well, and so far I've found that downloading the files on either handset or pc works fine. You are going to need that boot.img file on your pc to flash with fastboot eventually, though you can mount the device to USB within TWRP and extract it the same as any other compressed file. I typically flash the ROM first then Gapps, and have managed to get Paranoid Android up and running in this manner.
However, I have an ulterior motive posting because I am having an issue with PA 2.18, in that the Paranoid Settings module/apk/app (whatever it would be called) crashes or force closes immediately upon tapping it within settings. I have tried first flashing(w/TWRP 2.2.2.0) PA 2.17 as a fresh install/flashing the boot.img with fast boot, then upgrade installing to 2.18/again flashing the new boot.img with fast boot, and unfortunately I still have the Paranoid Settings module crashing upon launch. Any help from other PA users or anyone on xda with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Sigh. If you read you would see that you need to install it as a separate APK file. It's in the OP.
Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for reminding me, I totally did read the OP and tried installing that ParanoidPreferences.apk both through adb and a simple file manager with root of course. It provided a couple unexpected results. Appreciate the effort though, simple things like that do get overlooked.
edit: The root access was set to apps only, enabling there then adb'ing to install seemed to solve the problem.
ADB push it to /data/app, not data/local . Or put it on your SD and move it manually.
Hey all! Glad to be apart of the sidekick 4g xda community. i just recently got a SK4G from ebay for 45.99. Works flawlessly. (after a return of a 70$ one that wi-fi didn't work - which ima use groove ip lite to call for free w/my GV number, text with GV app)
So I'm trying to flash CWM recovery to flash custom roms. Here is where I am stuck at:
I'm on the Kv1 stock firmware
I am also rooted
I moved the recovery file to system/bin
i am in a pickle trying to figure out how to install the recovery.zip within the 400mb-ish all-in-one pack i got from an awesome member who compiled it and uploaded it through dropbox
do i flash with odin? does mobile odin work for this device?
i'm trying to navigate it /internal_sd/ the root file so that when i reboot to the system recovery it will flash the voodoo CWM.
but i cant find /internal_sd/ with root explorer. should try es strongs? or just regular odin?
tl;dr - this is exactly where i am stuck
whats the best recovery without having to deal with the mounts?
kinda annoying but after i find a rom i like i dont plan to flash a lot, but would like to try a few roms to find my liking.
what is your fav set up? as in
-whats your fav rom?
-whats your fav kernel?
-whats your fav modem?
any extra advice and everything will be appeciated

Welcome. I personally use the red CWM recovery and the Glorious Overdose series of ROMs. I had been using TLS' G.O. v3.2 Bulky until I recently decided to go back to G.O. v1 and flash a few newer things onto it. So, my phone is a franken-phone right now, but it works well.
awesome thanks! currently i am having trouble getting into CWM recovery - orange text. i mount system, backed up recovery, overwrote recovery, placed update.zip at the root of microSD, then used quick reboot to go into recover and i get a csc error thing. something about e signature verification failed. i am rooted, usb debugging, and using a 32microHCSD. heard that i might have to use a non - HDSD? i have a normal 2gb one to try. any ideas on what i may be doing wrong?

How are you going about overwriting the recovery file? One thing that took me a while to do on mine was that I had to mount the internal storage as read/write in order for the recovery file to be really overwritten. You'll need a file explorer such as ghost commander (free on Google Play) that can do that. The other thing is maybe the recovery file you have is bad. I don't think so, but you never know. You could also try holding down the volume buttons and the power key when the phone is off to get into recovery.

I could not for the life of me get Ghost Commander to overwrite the recovery file, although it otherwise looks like a solid, clean app. I tried Root Browser and it worked perfectly. Most likely it was user error, whatever the issue with GC was but in case it does that to you there's another app that might do the job.

If you get error the best thing to do is odin to kg2 or kd1 (recommend kg2 as its simple [r] to use )
Then re root an it should fix issues overwrite the recovery in system bin .. then you can pull battery put back in hold volume an power for 4-5 secounds should boot into recover (download mode pull batter hold track pad an power for 4-5 sec)

I made this app because I got sick of flashing stock recovery when a GPE OTA came, and then flashing back to a custom. I also wanted to cut my teeth on Android App Development so here it is. My first app..
Description
Must have ROOT and Busybox installed.
Instructions:
To use the one tap method:
1. place a custom recovery on your internal SD card and name it "custom.img"
2. place a stock recovery on your internal SD card and name it "stock.img" (without quotes, case matters)
3. Once they are on your internal card you can just tap "Custom" to flash to custom recovery or "Stock" to flash back to stock recovery.
To flash any recovery on your device:
1. Press the floating action button on the bottom right side of the screen.
2. Select a .img file from either internal or external SD card
3. Confirm yes or no if you want to flash
*Support for more devices added besides just devices using Snapdragon SOC's
-Should support most Terga devices
-Should support most Snapdragon devices
-Should support most Exynos devices

This'll be one to watch...
hi, great app, a really needed one! i just bought a donate version to spupport you.
still i have a few questions:
1. on my HTC One SV the path is slightly different as it should be: /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-num/recovery structure (by-num instead of by-name) is this a typo from your side or i have an unsupported device? if so, could you add support for my device's recovery path to your app?
2. i still have the original factory recovery on my device (which is rooted and with busybox). will your app work if i've never installed custom recovery on this device before?
3. does the bootloafer need to be unlocked?
thank you!

The problem for me (I also have an HTC One M8) is that each OTA seems to come with a new recovery image (or it looks like a different version to me). I usually keep a copy of the OTA after download, but before applying it, then extract the new stock recovery from that so I can flash back the latest stock version after doing all my custom recovery stuff. I can't see how your app gets around the need to do that. Or am I missing something simple (and owe you an apology).

I guess that the whole purpose of this app is to bypass the adb PITA where you need PC access to flash stock recovery to get the OTA, then adb fastboot reflash custom recovery etc. You can then always replace the stock recovery on your internal SD card with the latest version from the OTA.

@graffixnyc, I really like the idea behind this app and want to buy it, but just to be clear, and it's not mentioned anywhere, is it ok for HTC One M8 Sense version? I don't know much about the partition structures.
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but in what directory can i find the stock recovery.img so i can use your app? I am currently using Philz but i thought that KitKat 4.4.3 came with it's own recovery image so it must be stored somewhere?
I hope this works on Moto e as it uses the Same path as you mentioned above. @graffixnyc
Can we use this app for M7 devices?
hey guy!
how to know that our devices using "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery" structure.
Does this work on verizon lg g2
Thank you, this works great on my Nexus 4.
Hi, really great job !
Does it work with multirom ?
Thanks
Moto G
Working fine on the Moto G (Snapdragon 400) with TWRP 2.7.1.1.
One sugestion: Could you add 2 options to flash custom recoveries? In this way we could switch between STOCK X CWM X TWRP.
Great work!

I must be missing something.... Does it matter where I place the stock.img and custom.img? I have both of them on my phone, ran the app without issue, selecting Stock. But when it reboots it still goes into CWM.

The application should work as intended on every Qualcomm device that uses the*/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery*structure and is rooted with Busybox installed. Recoveries must be named stock.img and custom.img and must be placed in the root folder of your internal SD Card.*Before using this tool, double check everything, since messing with recoveries may result in*a bricked device.

Sorry about that... I missed the one word "root" in root folder. Now I get the Dead Android with Red Triangle when I try the stock recovery.
(But I can switch back to the CWM one with no trouble.)
