[Q] General Questions about ROM´s - General Questions and Answers

Hey,
in the last Time I deal with modifying CustomROMs and I want to know what are the prerequisites so that an ROM works?
So, why I cant install a Nexus4 ROM on a SGS3?
I love the new UbuntuOS but I have a MT6577 processor phone, what are the Requirements that I can run the UbuntuOS
I hope this Question is not so stupid
Thanks..

Each phone has different hardware and so a kernel compiled with the drivers for this hardware, as well as changes to suit the hardware within the ROM (for example screen sizes, different sensors etc)
Android is not like windows/linux you can not simply install one ROM from one device to another

the current system requirements for UbuntuOS are found here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone/operators-and-oems

Thanks for this Answers
is it possible to extract the Kernel and put it into another ROM.
And if my Phone bricked caused by a false ROM, cant I flash the Old ROM or at least flash the Recovery?

Sure you can install Ubuntu Desktop on an ARMV7-based android device.
See this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1872752
What is more, Ubuntu for Phone may be released soon. Just wait for a few months.

Most often NO....every device is different even the variants of same model have different hardware flashing may lead to a possible brick so never try unless the developer or other users specifically mention your device....In your case no is the answer
ok thank you for the aswer

New to rooting need help

What is a custom kernel i guess?
Dude....just read.....A LOT.....and when you think you got it.....go back and read it all again. If you brick your phone....be a good guy and replace it yourself.....meaning, don't take it back to your carrier and tell them it stopped working.

can you give me a link where it has info on kernels and roms
Just go to your devices specific forum and read the stickies.....they will have all the info you need.....
Also to keep people from flaming you or just hating you.....use the thread search and don't open a new topic.....if you are asking the question....it has already been asked a million times. You can also use Google with a search like
Ex: Samsung Galaxy I9100 custom kernel XDA
You will have more than you care to know.....but read it all and you can help future noobs.

Think about in this way, Kernel is a main component of an operating system , to make things easier let’s call it the operating system: and users with android phones install custom operating system mainly because their phones came
with official 2.1 or 1.6 android 3.2 or more recent builds because, as you know, not all phones get the privilege of getting the latest Android 4.x operating system.
Now, in order to install an operating system, you need to root your phone which is the equivalent of being an administrator account , and not a user
: the most famous custom kernel is cyanengon mod
From there, you are able to understand more about custom Android operating system kernels.
The kernel is the part of your device that stands inbetween the hardware and the software. It controls all the basics like charging, handling CPU usage, memory use, etc.

[Q] How to check custom ROM compatibility?

How can I check if a custom ROM is compatible with my phone?
Is it only compatible on a certain phone?
I have a Cherry Mobile Burst, And sadly I can't find a custom ROM for my unit. So I'm asking if there are other custom ROM that I can use??
Thanks!!! :crying:
The only real way is to make sure it specifically states that it IS for your device. If you cannot find one for your device, then you can try to develop one. Even the identical chipset will have different hardware that make the ROMs incompatible.
If it does not say "This ROM is for XXX device" then don't flash it, that's my advice.

I doubt it because there is a lot of work that goes into developing a ROM, like hours and hours, so usually phones that not many people have don't really get it, because why develop for a phone that 20 people own when you can develop for one that thousands or millions of people own.
Keep looking, there may a custom ROM out there, does your phone go by another name? Like an actual model number?

There are no developers that own that device, if they did then there would be ROMs for it.
There is no point in asking or waiting for developers to make ROMs for this device because it will never happen.
You've got a low end device that no one is interested in developing for, you'll have to learn to do it yourself if you want ROMs, that's the only way you'll get ROMS for this device.

That's "permanent".... or you can "find" someone who can do it for your device. What you can read by "it never gonna happen" ^^
Thread moved to General Q&A.
Aside from the name there is likely nothing in common with the other devices. I highly recommend not flashing anything made for the S4 as there is a good chance it brick your device.
You'll need to look for android exploits that work on your specific version of android and create a custom version of your devices own ROM and recovery.
Bloatware kill without root????

Never ever try flashing a rom that's not meant for your specific device model cos that's bound to brick it. As for the recovery you'd be better off searching the place where u found the rooting method for it. But remember never to flash anything that's not meant for u abd always have a backup at hand.
THANKS

By then I suggest you download android tuner pro. Its a paid app available on the play store and is capable of doing almost everything that you'll expect a custom rom to do. Also have a look at the thread in my signature. That'll help you a lot too and with much lesser risk of damaging your device.
