Looking to wipe everything clean? If you want it really fresh, enter recovery, mount sd to computer and format the sd card. Then download a Rom, drag it to sd and flash it. Your phone will be really clean.

NP... I format mine every Sunday to keep it on a strict diet.. I wipe EVERYTHING in twrp, then format sd card... So there's really no files on there at all... When you reflash the Rom it'll put all the necessary system files it needs

Yep, just mount in recovery and drag and drop whatever rom you want to flash and files you have lost if possible.

[Q] cant find zips

so i just got my sgs3 and rooted it and unlocked the bootloader, flashed twrp, wiped and went to flash the efs thing and cant find any of my zips i put on the phone...what do i do? can i flash a rom with odin(new from the htc world) or do i need to go back to stock?
Are they on the root of your SD card?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
i thought they were, i tried flashing cwm through odin and now i cant even get to recovery, downloading stock .tar now to try again but its a huge download...:crying:
SD card must be formatted Fat32 or none of the recoveries will see it.
it should be, it was in my inc and i wiped and formatted it before i put it in

If it is fat32 it should be able to see it. If you format with phone it will format to extFat. Put it back in PC and and click computer. Right click the sddrive and it should give you the format. Can't help with CWM since I haven't used it since Tbolt. I am using TWRP with no issues.
card was formatted correctly...did it again just to be sure, 1 hour left for the stock .tar...lol
is there a way to get the internal sd card out easily? to check that?
i am booting again...did the factory root 66 thing and im back, gonna try flashing again tonight and hope it goes better this time...
thanks for the help that you guys gave!

HELP - Deleted Android

Hi everyone! I am the biggest noob on the face of the earth. I was trying to install MIUI on my HTC One X and I think I might have bricked it.
MIUI wasn't loading properly, it was caught in the load screen animation. So I went back into TWRP and I cleared the caches and erased some other stuff. (I can't remember.) Then I went to reinstall and all of my files were gone. Also, it said that my phone didn't have an OS. When I go into mount it as a USB drive, my computer doesn't recognize its drive type and tells me to format it.
Did I just create the most expensive 9GB hard drive or is there still hope?
Restore a.backup holms..

Only format data and cache partitions. You shouldn't ever need to format the system, and never format any other partitions.
Try to restore a backup like the previous poster states, if you do not have a backup...
Download a ROM on your computer, mount USB storage, transfer the ROM, unmount storage, flash the ROM.

I had that same thought, however, my computer wont let me transfer because it doesn't let me recognize the file system. It tells me to format it.
Thank you all for your helpful and speedy replies!

Format it, its corrupted
Something is wrong with twrp because it does this sometimes when you format system
Then transfer over a ROM to flash
Sent from my HTC One XL
Did you accidentally select factory reset or clear storage while in bootloader? That will corrupt the memory as well.
He factory reseted. Reformat your sdcard. Plug in phone and transfer ROM.
It sounds to me your on new hboot and didn't flash kernel with fast boot. That's why it wouldn't boot so in a panic you factory erased. Correct?

The easiest way to do this is relock bootloader and run a RUU.
I am ashamed to admit I did this too; however, I was trying to install CM10 and deleted my recovery using flashgui luckily I was able to flash twrp, the boot.img and then load the zip for CM10. I am still looking for a method of getting back to the stock rom, but I feel lucky to have a working phone again.

formatting other partitions isn't an issue.... at all. and formatting /system is advised for a clean install.

Why relock and ruu back if he don't have to? He has to format the sdcard regardless... so he should just download viper 2.1.2 and transfer to phone. Flash the entire rom and bam, he's back in business...
2.1.2 version doesn't need fast boot or flash GUI app...

Why is this here and not in the q & a section

Cheezy, read the OP... He is a noob, and in panic mode he decided to post in general and not in Q&A. I really can't say much about the noob part because my phone got stuck in a bootloop from trying to flash over Viper 2.6... Thank the lord I didn't turn my phone into and nice paperweight. Now I know better, and have learned quite a bit from people here on XDA.

Well reboot into twrp, and choose mount when plugged in to computer. Go to my computer, and it should prompt you to format. It'll tell you its corrupted. It'll just erase everything and get it to act right. Are you using windows?

[Q] TWRP wont let me flash rom, no OS installed

Well i was trying to install cleanROM 5.1 and cleanKERNEL on my HOX, but every time i would try it would say failed (unable to mount /sdcard, etc.) so i wiped my cache, did a factory reset, wiped external storage, then accidentally did a system reset so i have no OS installed now, i was running 2.20 before but found a tut to unlock bootloader and root. in bootloader it says ***tampered*** and ***unlocked***
So if i have a custom recovery installed that means im rooted right?
and basically what can i do to install this rom and kernel without an error

You have to plug it in to computer, open up "my computer" and click it... It'll ask you to reformat sdcard. Once its done, download cleanrom on your computer, mount your sdcard in trwp, and drag it onto your phone. open up recovery on your phone and flash entire rom

Just wanted to let you know that you are in the wrong forum. This is the HTC One XL forum, you need to ask your question in the Galaxy Nexus forum. That will be the best place to get an answer.

You have to flash the boot.img separately. There are only about 100 threads on this issue.
