[Q] Partially unresponsive touchscreen - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

Euhm, hey guys...
Last week I was in Austria for snowboarding, so at a certain moment I had my phone in my hand, and slipped in a small pile of snow....
My thumb made a small 'dent / scratch' in the screen, and the phone was a little wet for about 1/4th part of its total size.
Now, when I turn it back on, the touchscreen partially works and partially not.
When in the pin-code screen I can touch everything till the 7,8 and 9, under those (onscreen) buttons, the screen is unresponsive, and I believe the software buttons are also unresponsive, but I can't test because I can't get in my phone, neither with out without simcard...
My question were, is there any way I can manually fix this? Is it definitely a hardware problem?
I'm using a Sony Xperia Tipo, currently on Gimlo 0.2 Rom, Stock kernel, rooted, unlocked bootloader...
Uhmm, I don't know what information you guys need apart from this. Hope someone can help me :good:
EDIT1: Hardware problem indeed, flashed stock, still no response on the supposedly broken screen parts...

(Disassembling guide?)
Sorry for the bump,
Does anyone know if there's any guide on disassembling an Xperia Tipo yet?
I'm considering replacing the digitalizer manually. Found a website where I can get the digitalizer + glass quite cheap, and well, as I tried alot of things, and I cannot even unlock the lockscreen because of the broken part of what probably is the digitalizer (no real cracks tho, just unresponsive), I think there's no other way then either go to a service center and hope to be lucky to get this done with warranty OR fixing it manually...

the first thing comes into my mind is trying to dry the phone. there might be a little water inside the phone. I don't know how you could do it on your place but we have a tool called desicator on our lab which could be used to get rid the waters. if you don't have it you can make it by yourself. you can use a litle jar and silica gels. put your phone inside the jar then bury it with the silica gels. after 24 hours you can try to turn it on. another cheap solution is bury your phone inside rice (the uncooked one). the rice will just like silica gels and adsorb the water partikels.
anyway, in my country service center almost never check the bootloader. if you're lucky enough you can claim the warranty and got free repair or even a phone replacement. goodluck mate.

We have something called "Contact Spray" or something, which should do the same.
Anyways, I've waited about 36h after it happened to first try to turn it on again, thing is, the phone seems to function normally, except a PART of the touch screen.
I'll try the rice / gels thing. Not sure if it'd make any difference though.
Thx for the tip, I'm not sure about our Sony Centers, Dutch people are a bit 'greedy' usually, they'll probably check, but hope I'm lucky.
Also hope they won't say it's water-damage, because that's not covered in warranty in europe, although I'm pretty sure that isn't the real cause... Service Centers like letting us pay for reasons that are untrue in this country... -_-

Display problem (broken??) - HTC support & warranty

Hello everybody,
I want to tell you what happened to my Touch Pro this evening:
On the display (also if the device is off) appeared a small rectangle in the center (about 2x3 cm) made from bubbles. Well, not bubbles, I’m quite sure that are liquid crystal. If I put pressure with the finger the “bubbles” move and follow the pressure also out form the edge of this small rectangle)
As I can reach a decent camera I’ll post some photos of this rectangle.
The strange thing is that the device didn’t fall in ground, didn’t have temperature range; nothing hit it and so on. It was in my pocket well safe!!
If display is on the problem is quite invisible, if display is "black" or off... ....Grrrr!!!
Now, my questions:
1) Warranty is also for display?
2) How warranty works in Italy? Where should I ship the item? Which times?
3) If I have ship the device, sould I load the original rom & radio? Where can I find the rom?
Certainly, first thing I’m going to do Monday morning Is to call Italy HTC’s support number…
Thanks a regards,
Andrea
The "oil spot" problem isn't a broken display. It's the touch sensitive layer, which has been subject to too much pressure (carrying it in your pants pocket, etc). This has been happening on a bunch of Touch Pros and Diamonds. You should still be able to use it just fine, but touch sensitivity may get worse over time.
HTC may or may not be willing to replace it for you (and if so, they may or may not charge some kind of fee). Although it's just a hardware change, you should probably recover stock SoftSPL for warranty.
I have the "oil patch" problem with my Touch Pro. Unfortunately when I first noticed, HTC would not fix it for me, so I still have the oil patch on my screen, although everything still works fine so far. If it gets worse, I plan on buying a replacement LCD/touchscreen and replacing it myself:
http://mobile.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=03799
I've noticed this problem on quite a few of the original touch / elf / 6900 phones, including my old personal phone which I used in this condition for many many months without every having any actual issues. It is strange but like you said: pretty much not noticeable when on and probably just best left alone unless it really bothers you.
I have the same spot but it is not causing any problems that I noticed but there is many who have this spot in the diamond forum.
today i also noticed this on my touch pro..i sort of fell asleep on it and i think i might have messed it up
i can see that oil spot that you mention but only if i tilt the phone at a certain angle and only if the screen is off. When the display is on i can see everything properly
The problem:
Touch function is messed up badly..i tested in notes application and sometimes when i press at a point X the dot appears somewhere else on the screen...Internet browsing is a pain in the ass like this...
i also noticed one thing..i took the stylus out, put the phone next to my ear and i tapped at the area outside the oil mark. I get the normal soft sound and pressure feeling as it should be.. When i do the same at the oil spot its rather hard feeling and sound..
i will contact HTC on monday and see what they say about it..
otherwise i will get a replacement for 159euros (inc installation) from pdatech...
Happened to my Fuze...
Happened to me too 60 days into owning it. I carry all my phones in my pocket, but have never had this problem. I brought it into the at&t store that I got it at and they never saw it either (it is only a few months old for them and have not had any complanints yet). They were going to replace it for me but were sold out. They had me call the warranty department and they replaced it with a refurbished unit (although all of their refurbished units are brand new as of this point because the phone is so new for at&t).
If you got your phone through at&t call warranty support and they will swap it out if the unit is under warranty (which being 2 months old at this point it will be).
This happened to my Fuze as well. I tried to call AT&T support and visit a corp store but they ruled it as physical damage, thus voiding my warranty. Apparently the "crystals" under the display are cracked/damaged, causing the rectangle. Who knows.
has anyone successfully sent a touch pro raphael to HTC repair shop to be repaired under warranty with this issue?? its really bothering me that i can see it and i feel like it will affect my phone eventually...
Add me to the list too.. I am going to try to get mine replaced through Sprint if it gets bad. I hope they know this is an issue/defect and not something like water damage

I believe this is a design/quality issue. I posted about this same problem here some weeks back. HTC will not repair under warranty, paid in total 77 pounds to get this fix from them. I believe they are aware this is a problem because in the warranty book, screens are not covered even when its not your fault. They call it Newton ring .
Funny thing that a lot of people started noticing this issue very recently: as if a cheap component came to the end of its life cycle.. propably in my head only..
Anyway: I noticed this on my TP a few days ago and I'm going to drop my phone to the local service. It's the second time in just over 4 months.. crappy build quality really
also: Diamond users have had the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
Local HTC service got back to me: they're insisting that it's a 'mechanical fault, not covered by the manufacturers warranty'. Then it gets better: the estimated repair cost is 275 euros (that's roughly 355 USD) for the replacement of the display and front cover.
Naturally I'm going to challenge this as the oily patch appeared over night when the phone was sitting on a table.
not that im questioning what happened but personally i find it difficult to imagine how it can get the oil spot just by sitting on the table :S
normally you would expect this after exserting enough force on the screen. Personally that was my case. I sort of fell asleep on the phone and might have hit it on the metal edges of the bed..anyway i got mine replaced from pdatech.nl for ~170euros including installation costs..
Well if I had to venture a guess, I'd say that the 2h navigation on the night before took its toll on the display and during the night it just spread out and became visible..
how dodgy. I have been getting this problem, but funnily enough I thought it was due to air pressure, because it happened to mine when i was on the plane.
anyway i was just coming home from someplace real hot (40C), and it kept giving me the screen alignment problem for a few weeks, kept thinking i was pressing the top right corner of the screen regardless where I pressed. However, found that putting slight pressure on the screen for a few hours (i.e. a weight) fixed the screen alignment problem temporarily (for a few hours).
Anyway, just came back on the plane from someplace real cold (-10C), now the problem has ceased.
???? air pressure? or temperature variation?
I don't have the screen oil spot problem you guys have however.
Here's to it lasting a little while longer...
I asked for a more detailed report of the fault and the service just said that 'It's a fault defined as OOW (Out Of Warranty) by the manufacturer' and that there's nothing they can do but charge me for the repair. Note: they're not even putting the blame on me saying 'abuse/misuse'!
Now I'm going to go to the seller (expansys) and hope that they have some interest in keeping customers happy (and maybe have more business with them in the future!) and make things right (=fix my phone or replace it).
Wow, and I thought I was the only one. I've noticed the same oily stain after falling asleep on the phone. I've had it for a month now, and I've gotten used to it. It does not seem to affect the sensitivity or the accuracy on the touch screen. At least not in my case.
Does anyone have any experience replacing the touch screen by themselves? Is it a complicated operation? I would greatly appreciate a 10-step-guide on how to replace the screen, if it's going to be an issue over time.
disassembly guide
check out the wiki of xda click on service manuals and look for raphael. its on page 19 of the PDF
I noticed this issue on my Touch Pro today morning! I used my phone last evening and everything was fine. Now the touch screen doesn`t work at all. Great.
Same issue
I have also been victim of the oily patch.
I have had the Sprint Touch Pro since November and it just happened within the past 2 weeks.
Maybe this is due to not putting the screen protector on the phone.
I'm going to try visiting the Sprint Repair Center to replace it and then put the InvisibleShield Screen Protector on it.

HTC Fuze (Raphael)(P4600) TouchFlo 3D Not working

hi!
This is my first post here. I have the following problem: yesterday my phone was fine...today not. Yesterday I was using the touch screen as usual with no problem, today the battery was to low and I turned off the phone. When I get back home, I connected the phone to charge it, and PUF!! the touch screen was not working at all...sometimes I can tap some menu, sometimes not, but in general terms, I can only use my phone with the keyboard. I did a soft and hard reset and nothing happened, I don´t know what else to do. I see this is kind of common problem, but no one has a common solution. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
My phone has windows mobile 6.1 Professional. CE OS 5.2.19971 (Build 19971.1.2.6)
ROM version 1.95.502.5 WWE
Radio version 1.02.25.32
Protocol version 52.39c.25.22H
u were able to use the windows 6.1 explorer? like looking for files under files explorer with no problem?
my phone is just as new as yours, i feel so frustrated! I was able just to use the keyboard, no touch screen commands were functioning. As i said, I have seen too many people complaining about this (if I would have known that, I would´nt buy this piece of crap)

At any time did you apply too much pressure on the screen?
Is your d-pad still working?
What about other hardware buttons besides the keyboard?
As I said, one day was working perfectly, and next day a kept it turned off since the battery was gone, and I was not at home to recharge it. So basically one day was fine and 12 hours later was not. The rest of the buttons are fine.
I did a hard reset, and at some point of the process the device indicates that I need to align screen, so a small cross show up in the middle of the screen (yo oughta know how is this...) well: I tap the cross and nothing happens....I tapped again...and nothing happens...3 tries later, finally the cross moves and the process goes on, To complete the process it takes me about 15 minutes!!!!!! but still nothing works out, the align screen process starts over again, and thats it!
At least, before the hard reset I was able to start my phone....now is impossible
Dont know what to do...

well then you have several options:
1) bring phone back to the entity you purchased it from considering you stated it was new it should be covered under warranty unless you purchased it from eBay w/o warranty
2) If you know it is the Touch Screen then I suggest using xda search function and searching "Think your digitizer is broken" and apply it the Fuze rather than the Tilt
3) attempt to replace the screen
4) sell it "as-is" for a loss
Problem solved!!!
Thanks guys for the suggestions. This seems to be a very common problem. But in my case the solution was simpler than I would ever though!! I read in other posts that this unresponsive touch screen problem is usually created by particles of dust, (sand! in my case), stuck in that tiny gap between the screen cover and the phone body, and the solution was to gently pass a piece of paper thin enough, (flexible plastic CD cover, in my case) well....Having tested all kinds of software """solutions""", and been prepared to pay for an expensive fix (I live in Costa Rica, this kind of phones are not common use, so fixes are expensive)...so I gave I try to this solution...and surprisingly IT WORKED...there were lots of dust, and even sand grains stuck in that gap, and like the phoenix...my phone got back to life!
Its amazing how delicate are these devices!! I think they are intended for enclosed-temp-controlled-ultraclean places only.
I hope this helps a lot of people having the same problem.
Thanks!

More info needed on "HTC fuze touch screen not working"
Hey, Ive tried following the thread about the htc fuze touch screen not working... up until the part about sand in 'some space between something...'
can someone provde more context/ pics? of where the sand might be.. because it sucks trying to use the fuze without a touch screen.
thanks for the help.
and the HTC customer support immediate went to the "well just hard reset the phone"... how quickly they are willing to erase all that data and hours of work to reconfig the phone..
any help is appreciated...
They were talking about the tiny gap between there the top layer of the screen (the material you touch) comes into contact with the body I believe. What you can try doing is running a piece of paper or something thing enough to wedge out the dirt in that area.
another somewhat common problem is the newton ring. You'll see an oily residue in the center area of your screen (it looks like rainbows). What I believe happens with this is your screen gets stuck to the actually LCD display underneath and doesn't bounce back to go back to it's resting state. What some people have said is to get some sort of adhesive material and use that to pull the screen up gently, so it goes back to resting. People have used tape and the such. Just be careful you don't pull the screen off your device.

Cracked Screen on my Touch Pro

I dropped my touch pro and cracked the screen in a few places. I think it works normally except for the screen, as it receives calls fine...
A new phone isn't in my budget right now. Does anyone know of a good place (hopefully in DC, MD or VA) that will supply or install a replacement touch screen?
(btw, no recent threads came up when I searched.)
Ebay!
Just looked, $30 including postage for a screen & digitiser if you are able to do it yourself.
How hard is it to replace a screen if it has surface damage? Is there anywhere i could find a walkthrough or help?
Shame man, its a tragedy of what happened to your phone...
Luckily its not too bad, and you may just be able to fix it. You can download the service manual for the phone here: http://htcwinmobile.blogspot.com/2009/03/htc-raphaeltouch-pro-service-manual.html
Just a note though, make sure you DO USE tweezers or something to get the speaker wires out of the way before snapping the enclosure back into position... I had to reopen the phone again, after powering it, to rejoin one of the little wires thats like a tenth of a millimeter thick DO NOT IGNORE ANYTHING THEY TELL YOU IN THE MANUAL. Oh, and what works well for the "plastic removal tool" is a cut out piece of plastic ice cream container. AGIAN, do not ignore anything in there... You are voiding the warranty permanently when you do it yourself (which you unfortunately have to).
Anyways, good luck!
I drop my phone also, but the screen didn't actually cracked! but I do have is problems with the screen in other ways! Sometimes I get a black screen when I turn on the phone and sometimes not, but when the screen turns on, it flickers a lot and have lines thru it. What suprises me is that sometimes I get perfect images on the screen (Which makes me think that the screen it's not damaged).
Any suggestion would be apreciated. Thanks!
3 days and still no answer from anyone! I would like someone to throw me ligth on this issue. I'm waiting for this to know exactly what I need to buy, before I start assuming things.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the LCD connector may have come unseated. You could open up the phone and make sure all connectors are firmly seated if you feel confident in your abilities.

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking on that also and wanted to take my chances opening the phone (oh god!).
BTW, I saw the $30 LCD Screen+Digitizer combo on ebay that Beeble referred to, but I'm not sure if it fits on the fuze (my model). What have come to my mind it's to buy also the front camera of the phone (like a thread on the kaiser) to mod the cell, in case I need to buy the screen+digitizer. I've search all threads about this issue but nobody has done it because it was too expensive for the result; I believe with this price it's worth it right now!
solved
Try this steps:

I used Diamod (!) LCD and Touch Pro digitiser. Works perfect.
Much more cheaper
If your screen works fine sometimes, you most likely don't need to replace it. there's probably just a loose connection somewhere. If you really want to replace it though, there's an ebay seller with a really good deal. $20 for the screen and digitizer already glued into a new front body piece: http://cgi.ebay.com/OEM-HTC-FUZE-LC...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3ef8817bf6 That one's for the fuze, but I think the seller has other models too. I'd definitely get the LCD and digitizer together or else you might end up like I did on my first attempt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584050

Thanks for the advise maxh,
I just wanted to let you know that a miracle just happened! my cellphone started to work just fine without even opening the phone! it has more than a week on this situation so I believe that it's exactly what you stated (the LCD conector became unseated or loose). Since it's still working, I have no need to open it! so I'll just wait until it becomes defective again and at that point just open it and tight up the LCD connector!
Anyway, I would love if somebody could make the mod that I was refereing to before (changing the screen of the fuze by the touch pro one) and see if it's possible to attach the front camera on the fuze.
Once again, thanks everybody for your opinions.
I got my new display+ digitizer on Ebay (65$) and replaced it, using the russian link mentioned above ( follow the exact procedure) , it took me 2 hours to do it, and after lot of patience it worked! My problem was the digitizer never worked fine, and after replaced it it worked like never before. If You are not familiar with repairs, it will be a mistake and waste of money to buy a display without digitizer. NOW, I have a small problem, my display has a NEW color, it's like color temp is WARM for this display, and COLD for my old display, AND COLOR level is lower, and the result is display without vivid colors, black like gray. Is there any way to change the DISPLAY color settings?

[Q] Busted LCD got blue screen?

Okay strait to the point! I've got a Galaxy S2 with Android 4.0.3 bought it 4 months ago.
I accidently dropped my phone and cracked my screen on the bottom right corner. The crack went from bottom and a diagonal line up til the right side. I took a picture below.
imageshack(.)us/photo/my-images/685/20120326152703.jpg
This happened about 2 months ago. No problem since. I dropped the phone a few times afterward but it didnt seem to affect it lucky me.
Yesterday i tried watch some series over my WIFI and the phone got really hot around the camera area. The phone wasn't acting well either and then battery dropped from 75% til about 10% in 10 minutes without any video still showing up. (Never had that problem before). I stopped using it and instead put it on recharge for the next day. And today on the morning it was still okay. Went to school and back with the mobile still working. Put it on my table and checked my PC.
About 2 hours later while cheking up on my galaxy i discovered this.
imageshack(.)us/photo/my-images/198/20120326153629.jpg
I think that the LCD finally busted but i need to be sure if it has something to do with the previous crack and also if you could provide any info about what to do with it? Does my warrenty cover this? Or do i need extra insuranse?
I really need help right now LCD blackned spots
The screen has started to turn black from the core of the LCD leak. I now really think this is a broken LCD screen and not a software problem. If someone knows what i could do to fix this i really could need the help right now.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong,
But it sounds to me like you've busted the digitizer portion of your device. As to it being caused by the small crack on your screen.. i don't really know(can't really see if it's a crack in the glass or digi). At any rate, judging from the second picture you provided us it most definitely looks like you damaged the digitizer.
Most companies don't really cover damaged screens caused by users. However, being that your S2 is only 4 months old you could possibly pass it as "it did it by itself, I don't know what happen". Worth a shot I guess...
If all fails you could bring it to a electronics repair shop or you can repair it yourself via a digitizer part bought on ebay(probably pretty expensive being that its part of the screen)
If all else fails check ebay for a new screen.

If your thinking about taking the DIY road I found a screen for you.Quick note about buying something overseas on eBay: it usually takes awhile for the part to ship and even when you get it, the part may not be functional. But don't fret, eBay is usually pretty good about stuff like this so a working part will be guaranteed or your money back!
If you do decide to repair it yourself I would first research A LOT about your phone. Especially, the disassembly guide! Try to use only credible guides such as iFixit, repair universe etc.
This only applies to flex ribbon cables:
when replacing screens sometimes you have to plug it in a few times before you actually get it to respond(could be cause by oxidation of the pins) if thats the case, you could try to take a #2 pencil eraser and gently rub against the pins and remove the oxidation...
Good Luck!
Please let me know how it goes!

Yes it is really a crack and a very annoying one. It doesn't cause any problems with the touch-function, so I've been using it normally but for the screen, it has gone completely black but for the top right part still a little darkblue. I think I'm going with your first answer and try to check it in on warranty have had a bit luck with it past couple of times but im not sure about changing it myself. If having no luck with warranty then maybe ill try doing it myself.
at any rate weather you get warranty to change it or you fix it yourself maybe youll learn to be more careful and get a case maybe???

[Q] Top half of phone submerged in water...Touchscreen dead...

This happened to my GF's phone. The top half of the phone was in water. Somehow it survived...Turns on fine and boots fine, but the touchscreen is dead...
What I'm wondering is if this item has a chance of fixing it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-x-NEW-...699?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0e1583eb
Yes, her phone is this model. Figured we might give this $7 possible solution a go before buying a new phone.
Any chance it will work, or is it likely water damage to some other internal part that communicates with the touchscreen? I know there's no way of knowing for sure, just wondering if there's a decent chance this new touchscreen will fix the issue...Thanks much
As you may already know, the digitizer is what turns the display into a touch-sensitive one. I say, since you'd have to take the phone apart anyway, take it apart now, and take a look. There may still be moisture inside, or you might find corrosion, or loosening/damage to the digitizer's ribbon.
Cant answer your questionbut am curious, how long ago this happen? You already try putting it in brown rice for a few days?
