Hi
I'm facing a problem with my Nexus S, before it was working... but, unfourtunatlly i just make some modification in the system file and now my phone not working and stuck at the google logo black screen... exactly, i think the problem in the java runtime.jar file that was in the system folder, i replace it with another file and all that done since i want to add another language to the system so that it can understand it. but, the device now is not working....
I tried to enter the recovery mode and wipe all data, but nothing change. its keep the same. so i tried also to format the system (from the recovery) since, the modification done in that folder... also, its not working....
So, I think the best way right now is to return it to the default rom(official one from google) , i download it, and tried to flash it using the "fastboot" command but it keep give me error when writing for system.img file....
What can I do right know ??? I can't use my device at all...
Help me Guys, please.....
For future reference Factory wipe doesn't touch /system...just /data.
If you formatted your /system, and it actually formatted, all you can do now is restore a working system.
If you didn't make your own nandroid backup of the system (and you ALWAYS should in the future before messing with system level modifications) to have a known working configuration, then your best bet in my opinion is to go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093
Download the nandroid image from there and flash it to your phone using Clockwork Recovery.
Good luck.

But, The question here is.... how can i flash it when i can't get access to the memory(since the Nexus S doesn't have sd memory slot) and to the system ??
when i enter the recovery, all i can do is use the fastboot command.... can i use it here ??
Thanks alot .....
If you boot into Clockwork, you should be able to use it's mounts menu to mount the sdcard...then use adb to push the files to your sdcard. adb should be active and working in clockwork.
If that doesn't work out for you, you could also try the Odin and "download mode" approach from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947950

Hello guys
I have the same problem, but i guess for different reasons.
I applyed the superboot from the modaco´s forum on my nexus s, but I guess I did it with the wrong version (i had got the 2.3.4 ota before doing so and used a 2.3.3 version) and now my phone won´t boot. My rom was stock. Now, it remains on that google initial screen. I can´t get to upload anything for the device since I guess the usb debug mode is off, although when I connect the device to the computer, the system shows the usb driver. I guess my device is GT90 something, can´t say for sure. Have to check at the box.
That said, I´d like some help on what to do about it.
I´ll be forever grateful!

The thing is that i already have clockworkmode installed and i can access it through bootload, in fact is the only thing i can do. My problem is that i just can´t send the recovery.img from the pc to the phone. And I also think that the usb debug mode is unavailabe, so I can´t activate it.
I´m new to this thing so the only way I could move files into the phone was through windows explorer drag and drop. Honestly I´m lost without it.
Is there a different way to push it to the phone ?
I understand this forum is intended to more experienced users, and for that I apologise.
Guys I found a solution by enabling USB from clockwork! Thanks! Keep the good work!

Hello "ectole", could you let me know how you get out of it. I am in the same problem. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13800735#post13800735 to root my phone, now I always boot into clockwork. I can I boot into Nexux again?
Hi guys,
I'm in a similar situation. I tried to install CyanogenMod 7 to my Nexus S (ATT), got stuck at the skating dude.
Booted back into Clockwork, and tried to flash back to the stock firmware, but I think I accidentally flashed the wrong one (for the 9020T instead of 9020A) build. Now I can't get into ClockworkMod or anything on the screen whatsoever.
Does anyone have any tips at all? I'm really screwed here, would appreciate it a lot...

Hey bante just go to clockwork then to mount/dismount menu and the last option should be mount USB storage. Mount it and stay there and your PC should see the sd card. Then upload what you want.

HELP!!! Odin bricked my Nexus S i9020a
I attempted to use odin to restore my phone. Could not get past bootloading screen. Put phone in recovery mode and used odin and grh78 firmware.
Odin went thru the whole process and said success, then my phone shut off, and will not power back on. Any ideas?

By 'recovery mode', do you mean download mode? (you hold both vol up and vol down then plug in USB)

Sounds like you flashed i9023 software. You could try Odin. Does your computer recognize the phone?

Hi
I was trying to update my Sprint Hero to the new Zero Hero ROM. I had the Nandroid system install and when I tried to flash my Zero zip file, I kept getting the Verification failed message.
In trying to do stuff to try to understand it, I pulled the USB cord from my phone and now when I start my computer I only see the white HTC screen and nothing else.
I can get fastboot to work on the phone, but when I try to recover from the recovery.img file, it doesnt work. From what Ive understood its not working because I have S-OFF.
I really have no clue what to do at this point and would love if someone can please take the time out to write some detailed instructions of how to get back to the point of having the Nandroid screen so I can atleast get my phone started .
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So now I can get into the recovery menu, but installing the stock rom is not working...
what error you getting when trying to install stock Rom?

I have made a big mistake and tried upgrading my phones firmware to install a costume rom.
Phone: HTC Sensation 4G
Company: Tmobile
I downloaded it the wrong firmware now my phone keeps restarting to the main htc screen over and over it wont get past that, I tried doing a factory reset but I'm not sure if it went trough. I'm done toying around with my phone I just want to go back to the the stock version of htc please help me. I can't afford to buy another phone.
Thank you so much.
Fredy
I'm a newbie, too. So get my advice in doubt.
As far as I read from forum, Task29 clears the ROM all. Then you can install a ROM freshly. May be you can search sbout doing Task29 on your device.
Download a compatible rom from the net to your computer and transfer it to the SD card using a USB cable (or just use the restore option in the recovery menu if you backed up the previous rom, which you should have). Then boot into recovery by turning your phone on, wait 1 second then press volume down then volume up to recovery and flash the new rom you just put on the SD card.
Good luck
If you can't get into recovery mode then I don't have a clue, sorry.

If u can't get into recovery, u have to push the rom to the phone via adb. There's a thread somewhere on how to do it. Search it
Hit THANKS if I helped u
Heeeeelllp! I was trying to get touchwiz 4.0 on my Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 running android 2.2.2 when it wouldn't let me move the apk to the system/apps folder. So i made a stupid mistake and moved the apps folder out of the system folder and into its parent folder what ever that folder is. While it was moving it started coming up with force close messages tell me that so and so had forced closed and it was just constantly repeating the force close vibration pattern. Then while it was still moving the screen went black (but still on) yet the force close vibration kept going. So i rebooted and the pattern was still going even when the boot animation was there and when the boot animations has finished i just displays a black screen but yet again there is still the force close vibration happening. It boots into recovery ok and i am rooted. No CMW or custom rom though. I was using a root browser, dont no wich one. Can you help me get my data back or even my galaxy working with my data. thanks
Now that's a realy nice title you picked there for your opened thread.
I ques a lot of people will understand your problem with that title.
Edit; maybe I'm being a bit of an ass like this sorry but I realy don't understand why people opening threads with a title like you use.
If everyone would start a thread with the title heeeelppppp imagine how far we would come.
Anyway, you write you are still able to come in recovery mode and that you placed the apps out of the system folder into another folder whatever that would be..
Can't you reverse it by digging into your folders, find the apps folder and place it back in sys?
I think that's the most easiest and only step to get your data back.
But how do you do that through the recovery? I'm only using samsung's standard.
Is it possible to connect your device to pc and brows on it using explorer on pc?
If that's possible you could cut an past the map back to the system folder?

Kies wont reconize it when i boot my device normally but when i put it in recovery or download mode it says connecting but never connects. my PC reconizes my device in the same modes but wont let me browse the files. Is there any way i can browse the files on pc.
Ok, iv'e now tried a factory reset and its still not working.
I'm going to try and flash an ICS ROM
I'm trying to get posts now so i can ask another question
Sorry but I do not understand what you are trying to explain.
If your pc recognizes the device put it in storage mode if possible.

Just flash a stock rom...your phone should work then...
And remember for thr future, before doing changes with root permissions, take a backup of your data...
And don't create a thread like this in the development section...unless you want to trolled/flamed/get infracted...
Typed using a small touchscreen
My PC would only reconize it in recovery or download meaning I couldn't put it in to storage mode. Doesn't mater anyway now I'm trying to flash a new ics rom. Bit I don't know if you can flash any Rom with odin or not and if it needs a new kernel. Do you need USB debugging to install a Rom or kernel? Im new to all this you see.
You see I don't think the factory reset did anything.
OK, I'l flash a new stock rom and see if that works.
A) put phone down. Wait. Put it in a box . Then bury it.
B) read for a week. All about your phone specs, what adb is, what the difference between CWM (clockwork mod recovery) and rom manager is, how to flash partitions with Odin and heimdall, and any other info u can get your hands on.
C) after said time is up. Dig up your phone and fix it up .
ok i finally rooted my sg3, (had another thread how to do so with mac but i used a windows pc) anyways its rooted but now i cant download roms from rom manager. whenever i try to do a restore it says there was an error and then i have reboot, not sure whats goin on or how to fix it, i used the odin method, also stock rooted rom doesnt seem very stable, hasnt crashed or anything but ive had a few freezes since last night when i rooted, just seems very unstable, any help or insight os greatly appreciated. thanks

That's ROM manager acting up.
Download the ROM yourself and place it somewhere on your phone
Then go into recovery yourself by holding vol dwn+home+power
If you don't know how to use ClockWorkMod check out some Youe tube videos or the "pinned" topics in development threads.
ROM manager is just a front end for CWM but it doesn't work well with the s3 right now so just learn to do it manually.
ok thanks for the quick response, i know how to use cwm, (p.s. its vol up+home+power, vol down is for download mode) i just didnt want to do anything with it acting the way it is, last night i tried it and it went into infinite boot loop, i had to re root to get it to reboot, i tried factory reset, restore didnt work, wiped dalvik cahe and everything, just dont want to brick my phone, man roting and swapping roms was a breeze on the thunderbolt
