Hi all,
The browser on 2.3.4 isn't GPU accelerated yet.
Some content rich webpages make surfing impossible with that substantial lag.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Any quick fix to make it GPU accelerated? Or is Google aware of this issue? This has been bugging me
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
You'll probably have to wait for Icecream Sandwich, in the meanwhile, use Opera.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Maybe the issue will be resolved in a future update 2.3.x, we can hope it.
especially when there are many pictures.
Opera handles much better..
Yep, the stock browser on Nexus S is really laggy. I prefer Opera on it.
But it's interesting that the stock browser in Galaxy Tabs Gingerbread ROM is super smooth. And given the fact that it was really awful in the beginning, its a HUGE improvement. So fingers crosses that Nexus S's stock browser gets a performance upgrade before ice cream sandwitch.
Seems odd to me. I bought a smart phone over a feature phone for better web browsing.
I hate it.. I don't understand the limitations when safari on iPhones has been smooth for years on less powerful hardware.
i installed flash 10.3 and all is good with the stock browser
Heres to hoping ice cream sandwich sorts it...as will as bring proxy!

I have no problems with Opera, however does it support Flash ?
If else, i think it defeats the purpose of another web browser

Yes Opera supports flash as well, what is nice with Opera is you can enable certain flash elements within the webpage and not have to enable all of them at once

i really wanna use two browsers in my phone, because sometimes i just like to change the normal practice. opera is good to use. dolphin browser is perfect , never FC. it support flash and pinch-zoom. its amazing.
Anyone tried browsing with stock browser on xda forum here. Its almost unusable.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
i tried, do you mean on the pc or mobile, on the pc i can both view xda with IE and chrome , on the mobile , i use dolphin browser because i have removed the stock browser.LOL
I'm really liking the Nexus S phone but I have to admit that the lag in the browser gets really annoying specially coming from the Iphone 4 it makes me doubt if I should keep the Nexus S or go to another android phone.

Simple. Because Adobe is no longer developing or supporting mobile flash.

Yeah im guessing having no flash is what makes it really fast, i tried it on the Galaxy Nexus and its really quick

I'm guessing that the Galaxy Nexus has an enormous part to play in why it was fast as well...
HTML 5 will be replacing flash. HTML 5 introduces support for media tags that enable embedding audio and video with almost all of the benefits of Flash video and fewer aggravations (and no proprietary software dependence). In fact, Google has introduced a Flash free version of YouTube – http://www.youtube.com/html5
If you want a browser that functions much like Google Chrome try Boat Browser in the marketplace. I love it.

Google Chrome for Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Hi Guys, i tried to search this forum, but i didnt find the right answer. So my question is - is there any possibility to get Google Chrome on Samsung Galaxy S Plus with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread ?
if not, heres another my question:
Is there any wa how to get Android 4 to Samsung Galaxy S Plus?
Thanks for the answers, sorry if the second question is off-topic.
1. Chrome only runs on Android 4+ ICS
2. You should check out the Galaxy S plus forum for that; this is the g2x forum.
thank you for the answer And istn there any hack to run Chrome on android 2.3.6? Or some beta version of this google chrome for Android?

Nope, it needs hardware acceleration that was introduced in ice cream. It's impossible to move that framework down to an older version

This is really awesome, just signed up for the HTML5 test. Thanks!
So in the market, Chrome Beta is the version everyone here is using, right?
Yes, chrome beta is what we're talking about.
Google just updated it though and on Hellfire ics its saying its not Android 4.0. I'm assuming this is a simple android version check but anyone on cm9 getting the same thing?
Yes, same...and eagles blood.

has anyone download it? and ive notice its super laggy on tf101 compare to the Galaxy Nexus, has anyone else notice this?
you are right it is a little slow. I would say just use the stock ICS browser untill chrome gets out of beta
yea ICS browser is faster but on the Galaxy Nexus Chrome is way faster. I dont understand why though

Not being a smart ass but you guys do see that word "beta " in the app name right? It'll get better. Its still early. Just like anything Google does, they let us use beta and test for them to see what to fix

I know its in bet but why the big difference between when using on the tf101 then the Galaxy Nexus. I think if it was a beta problem then it will be slow on what ever device you install it on.

Does anyone know how to change user agent settings here?
yea im also using the stock browser because its faster but hopefully with future updates they fix it. I did notice that tf101 kernel version is 2.6 were as the Galaxy Nexus is 3.0.8 i dont know if thats one of the problems it was the only difference ive seen between the two.
Stock browser is faster, but Chrome is much better for me and fast enough - so I'll stick to it probably.
I like Chrome just want it to be a little faster

I just wish Google would be a little more transparent on these matters. I have been hearing about majel for so long now and I suppose I should have figured that it would be for ICS or above, but to find that it is just for JellyBean really sucks. Their website says that it is "currently" only for 4.1 . Does that mean it will be made available for older OS's? Is this being done just to sell more new phones? Come on Google, just tell us what your plans are.
its most likely for 4.1 only...
even though it has already been ported to 4.0 and its semi working on my galaxy sii.
I cant wait to get 4.1, working google now, working offline voice recognition and it working in my language (dutch)
We can't port all JB goods to ICS or GB Because of kernel.

If any of you remember the early days of Android, Google did the same thing once before. When the original Droid was launched, it was the first Eclair device and launched with Maps Navigation. All those of us with the G1 (or other devices running Donut) were left drooling and wondering why Navigation was a 2.0 exclusive feature. Then, a month or two later, the update was added to the Market for us all. And there was much rejoicing.
Soooooo...here's hoping they do the same with Now. Maybe it's 4.1 only for now so they can iron out bugs? Who knows. But they seem really determined to make Now a hit, so it wouldn't surprise me to see it eventually released for older OS versions.
Lol google can be ported to ics and it's fully working! I had tested it with a custom rom on the x10i

Try Maluuba from the Play Store or utter!. Maluube has more of a Now feel and utter! is more for device control. I use both (Maluuba much, much more) on Gingerbread and they are both extremely fast. They beat out S*** on the i***** in both number of functions and speed. Both are reliable. Enjoy!

If your on Gingerbread, I think it's worth it to upgrade to JB if any developers support your rom. You'll probably see major deferences in ways such as battery life, UI Beauty, etc..

But unfortunatelly none of this actually work. Can not even trigger utter to listen my command.
This is either a problem with user setting configuration, or is due to the fact that the application is still in beta. Try messing. With the settings. The way it is normally triggered is by holding the search key down.
And maluuba pretty much never has problems... Trouble shoot a little and try to figure it out. I'd like to help, just I don't have enough info to go off of to help.

Hey Guys,
i'd like to introduce the first and only indie mediaplayer for android - dreamZMP3!
dreamZMP3 was first released in February 2012 and has been improved since permanently. The current version (1.2.7) is almost bugfree but still gets improved updates weekly.
The basic idea of dreamzMP3 is that user can co-decide on the further development process and can contribute their ideas.
For this purpose there will soon be the forum back online (i got some problems with my subdomainhoster, deleting my last forum, so there will be a "real" domain hosted) where users can discuss and suggest features.
At this time there is just the Facebook-Page online where this can be done.
Further more there will also be the Dev-Blog back online on Tumblr this time, where i'll document the development process.
If you'd like to support me in developing apps for android (i've plenty of game ideas ) i would be delighted if you have a look on dreamZMP3 (the Beta Version is FREE).

As much as I wanted to try the app out, UI is incredibly important to me and this app definitely needs an overhaul in the UI department (assuming the screenshots from that amazon link is the app in current form).

Hmm, sounds strange... If you can tell me where it force closes i'll have a look at the code. Normally it should not lag on a SGSIII because the SGSIII CPU should handle dreamZMP3 with no problems (the weakest test device i use is a Xperia X8 with 600 Mhz). I'm still working on a Folder Browser and probably implement a "alpha folder browser" (a simple file browser) in one of the next updates (would be complicated implementing a Folder Browser in the existing MediaBrowser).
so long MiKe
