[Q] Trying to Root--But Odin Stops - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to root and copy recovery over by odin. Odin seems to be connected but after pressing start, it stops at "Setup Connection". I just used odin on a nexus 7 so I know it works and have tried debugging on and off and switched drivers but same outcome. What am I missing?

Have you gone into bootloader mode? From off you hold volume down and power button until Samsung logo appears, press up volume when the warning is displayed and you're in ODIN mode (bootloader mode). Should be recognised by ODIN, flash away...

Success
That worked! Completely missed that step.
Thank you,

[Q] GR-10 ROM flashing ODIN3 problem

I apologize if this is a duplicate but I have a problem.
The USB cable came out of the phone while loading GR-10 ROM so of course the flash failed. The phone will boot up in Android System Recovery but go no further. Download mode does not appear to be available. Tried several times (5).
There is bunch of failed message string below.
My questions are:
Is this a soft boot where a Jig would make it go into Download mode?
Or is this a hard boot and I need to do something else?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

you should be able to reach download with adb comands.
if it still boots at all you should still have a good combination of bootloaders. have you tried the i9000 combos as well? volume down+power untill the splash screen pops up, volume down for 2 sec then plug in usb cable with odin open? volume down+menu+power? pull battery then vol down + power + put battery back in?
also have you tried the captivate variations? volume up+vol down+power till att splash goes away, vol up + vol down+ usb cable, pull battery then vol up+vol down+usb +put battery back in?
id try them all or use adb while into recovery mode.
I went to take a shower and came back to try it again.
I got it to go into download mode. I believe it was the I9000 version which worked - volume down+power untill the splash screen pops up, volume down for 2 sec then plug in usb cable with odin open
However, it appears to be stuck trying to load. In Odin 3 app, I am at factoryfs.rfs and the progress bar has not moved for about 20 mins. Also my COM window is yellow.
It looks like Odin3 and Captivate are not talking and that the Captivate drivers did not load. Does that sound right?

Yeah, sounds like odin is detecting your phone, but having trouble transferring junk to it. Try a different usb port, or perhaps a different usb cable if you happen to have a spare one?
You can also try it again if it's stuck on factoryfs.rfs, since it's not in the process of flashing bootloaders it should be "ok" to pull the cable and try again.
Also, it shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to flash factoryfs.rfs, anything longer is a pretty good indicator that something went terribly wrong.
Also try restarting your computer.

Just so you know - I tried everything mentioned here and I was not able to get the phone working.
The phone would not communicate with the computer correctly. I could never get the Odin3 to show anything other than yellow when I connected the phone and was in download mode.
I could not get it to boot at all at the end. So I took it to the local ATT&T repair center and got a replacement.
Thanks again.

[Q] GT-N8010 - Downloading....Do not turn off target!!

So i tried to root the device - i followed the steps from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53035539
then i downloaded the Kitkat firmware and followed the steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767314
After pressed start on Odin v3.09 with the Kitkat firmware (N8000XXUDNE4_N8000OXADNE4_N8000XXUDNE1.tar.md5) i waited for a few minutes until completed.
my tablet has now says ' Downloading...Do not turn off target!!.
I have no idea what to do next. I tried rebooting it using the power button but it keeps going back to the same screen.
i have to do this whilst Odin is running on my PC and also when i unplugged the USB cable from the tablet.
I tried the download mode (hold power button + volume down) but it keeps saying the same screen only with the upper left texts saying 'Odin Mode'
I'm completely stuck. Help, anyone?

Is my Sprint Galaxy Note Edge hard bricked or done?

Long story short, the phone was updating to the latest OTA update and I believe it restarted suddenly somewhere during the update. Now it is stuck in this never ending boot loop. Turn on the phone and it tries to go into recovery boot, then shows the android guy and fails.
I have tried booting into recovery mode but it still goes to the android guy saying it is "Installing system update" then fails. I downloaded Kies and Odin but neither recognize that the phone is even there.
Is there anything else I can try or is this phone brain dead?
Try going into download mode and flashing whatever firmware you're on. Instead of holding up,home key and power you hold down, home key and power. Then hook phone up to computer and, using odin, reflash your firmware.

Yep, this guy is correct. Download mode, let your computer install the drivers (will do it automatically) and viola, now its recognized by odin.
Sounds like your gunna need xtra help
1. Load Firmware on Odin , click PDA TAB & load Firm|file then plug your phone in2 USB & Hit Start.
Then dont mess w| your phone until 'Box' says PASS

Soft brick cannot enter either recovery or bootloader mode. Advice needed.

I formatted data and flashed Quantum Stock ROM (did not flash "RMM bypass zip"). After starting the phone once I tried to install a GSI (Treble) ROM. Disaster.
The phone is softbricked(?).
1. If connected to power source or PC the phone keeps restarting.
2. If no cable is attached, after powering on it shows logo and then switches off.
3. Cable connected or not connected, no matter which combination of buttons I press I just CANNOT enter recovery or bootloader mode.
Please advice on how to proceed. Thank you. :fingers-crossed:
Solution:
When the phone is powered off, hold VOL UP + VOL DOWN and insert the usb cable that is connected to a PC.
A screen will appear giving option to enter "download mode" by pression VOL UP. Do it.
Now the phone is in download mode.
Use ODIN to flash the latest firmware.
English is not my first language
I'm with the same issue!! I already flash the latest firmware but doesn't worked.

Question my Galaxy A12 won't boot to android or download mode help me pls

so I just tried to install unofficial TWRP 3.5.0 on my Samsung galaxy a125m and everything went fine, Odin said done. Then I just tried to start TWRP by pressing power and vol up and it didn't start, so I thought I might have done something wrong and rebooted to download mode and flashed it again, Odin said done, then I unplugged the USB cable and now it won't boot, neither to the system or recovery, even to download mode, it did enter download mode a few times before but I pressed the wrong button and had to cancel and enter again, now it won't even enter download mode so I can't flash stock rom to fix bootloop... pls how can I solve this I'm desperate
when I try to enter download mode by pressing volume up + volume down it just shows up charging mode without any numbers, then it turn on and shows Samsung logo, unlocked bootloader warning screen, and the Samsung logo again, but then just restarts and repeats all again...
when I try to press volume up + volume down + power, nothing really happens...
someone help me please
You need to keep both volume up and down pressed, then plug in the charging cable. It should enter download mode, no need to press the power button like in older samsungs.

Is the cable plugged into a charger and on?
Have you considered that your volume buttons may not be working?
Same hear
Try attaching your phone to the PC, and then pressing volume down + power to reset the phone, (for about 7~8 seconds) then immediately press the volume down and up buttons, that's how I recovered from it. Tell me if it worked

Please help it dosent worked
No pc detection
No download mode

Hello, unfortunately in these cases the only solution is to enter download mode, check if any button is damaged or if the cable works and if it is well connected, press the buttons harder, hold down the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time , by pressing the strong buttons, for about 6 seconds and then connect the cable. If you don't try another cable to see if that's the problem there is no other solution as the phone is not recognized by an app that can put it into download mode when turned off the solution is the one I already told you about. I hope you have fixed that problem. Sorry for my bad English.

@physwizz
I am having a similar problem with the Samsung A12 SM-a125u
I never could enter into this "Downloading mode".
I tried flashing the stock ROM through ADB with fastboot, and I have another problem that I've never seen before: ADB can see the device while in recovery mode, but fastboot can't. And so it won't allow me to flash the ROM and I don't even know how Odin is supposed to help yet; I think I needed to enter Downloading mode for that, but I can't get into it.
I'm working on this phone for a friend who was given it because his friend's mom doesn't remember the password to it. Does that matter? It's worth noting that because of that I cannot get in to turn on OEM unlocking or dev mode, but idk why that would come into play in recovery mode. Also, the model indicates this is an AT&T phone, and tutorials online have acknowledged this model in their "applicable models" list at the beginning of their tutorials, but I know that carrier phones can cause problems all over the place (stop buying carrier locked phones people!); is this a problem?
How the heck do I flash the stock ROM to this this?
