[Q] Can't use power button to unlock phone via HTCDev - HTC Sensation

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to flash a custom ROM, and every method requires me to unlock the bootloader via HTCdev, but I have two problems:
1) I can't boot into bootloader. When I hold power + volume-down, the phone boots into safe mode (I don't think that's normal right?). I took care of this by using adb and (adb reboot bootloader) to get into the bootloader.
2) When I'm in the bootloader, the power button (to make any selections) doesn't work. So I'm always stuck at the last screen that says "Unlock bootloader?" and I just have to select "yes" with the power button, but I simply can't!
Does anyone know how I can get the bootloader to work normally, or get my power button to work when I'm in fastboot?
Thanks in advance!

Did you get around this? I keep having the same issue!

Read the screen on your phone , you got to use volume up or volume down button to select yes or no , i think volume up is for yes and than press power

Maybe certain fastboot commands may help a little, if the power button is damaged. (Maybe take off the back cover and see if you can then push it down properly..)

And not exactly.
If I recall correctly,
vol down means moving down on the list
vol up means moving up on the list
& power button is 'select'

Volume up works but the power button doesnt

I'm also stuck in this screen for the past week, I got this phone for free, but now I want to root it but I'm stuck in this screen. I've tried several tools like kgs1992utility, hasoon2000's utility, even the windroid tool for htc sensation, but somehow I simply cannot get passed this screen. Is there any adb commands to replace the power button to select?
only the volume down button works, but it works in the opposite way(ex volume down actually takes you up not down) -__-

cant finish power button will not select yes
I am having the exact same problem the power button suddenly will not work on yes but does on no WIERD and very FRUSTRATING

So I had the exact same issue. I pressed the power button and volume down together and the phone rebooted back into the bootloader, this time it says *** UNLOCKED*** at the top of the screen.

How To Get Bootloader Info

How can you get to the bootloader screen to find out if the phone is s-on or s-off?
I have been trying to hold volume down while the phone powers on and nothing seems to work.
All advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Try holding volume down button and then select to restart your phone (in the power prompt). Worked for me.

You follow the steps you would in order to Perform a factory reset using the phone buttons
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER
button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release
the VOLUME DOWN button.
The details should now be listed on the top line...
Got it, that worked.
That definitely worked well. Here is my screen.
No need to pull the battery, just turn off Fast Boot (in Settings -> Power) before you shut down the phone. You can re-enable it afterwards of course.

[Q] Major help needed

EDIT: Solved, ADB worked after sitting in bootloop for 20 min
mikel.canovas said:
After seeing the cool button configuration for Alpha 4 on CM, I wanted to try and port that over to sense roms, as a first step I transferred the keylayout folder into a sense rom and booted up. The phone will only bootloop and holding the power button flashes the bottom LEDs and either turns off the phone or reboots. Button combos do not seem to let me get into recovery. When I connect it to the computer, I can't connect through adb. I'm really screwed here, any help?

You mean it doesn't boot into bootloader ? does the led's flash when you press and hold the power button ?
If the LED's flash 6 times and before the screen starts , hold down the voulme button ..( till you see something on the screen )
If I do that it just goes straight to a normal bootup, which then bootloops

Ok ... you will have to be persistent here ... make sure the LED's flash 6 times and when you realize it's starting up ... press the "volume down" button " 2-3 times and hold onto it ... no need to hold the power button ...

[Q] JB Bootloader Automatically Loads Recovery

I just bought a new TF700T and have unlocked the bootloader, and am now trying to root. However, when I start the device by holding down Power and VolumeDown, the bootloader immediately loads the recovery kernel without giving me the opportunity to select fastboot.
What's up with that?

So you turn off your device, hold down volume down and power buttons, as soon as you see the white text appeared on the top left of your screen and you let go both buttons, you don't see 4 icons??

I see them, but the device immediately announces that it's taking me to the recovery kernel images.
Or I let go too soon and it boots normally. I haven't found a way to actually be allowed to make the selection yet.
Having tried something different, even using "adb reboot bootloader" from the command prompt reboots the device to the bootloader, but still gives me no chance to make any selection other than the recovery kernel image.
Okay, solution to the problem found: even though the bootloader tells you that Vol- moves the selection and Vol+ selects it, it's the other way round.
Problem solved.

It acts normally once the system is booted up when I turn volume up or down, so I dunno. It is a mystery.

Download mode

Hello.
What kind of combination of keys enter the "download mode" mode?
Vol down plus power does not work on the off U12 +, and under the system it even diminishes in dignity despite pressing "power".
Vol UP and power also does not work.
Boot to Bootloader and than select Download Mode with volume buttons (working for me).
From system you can try:
adb reboot download

Since u12+ has no physical button, and the edge sense doesn't support combine key,the method to enter the bootloader is special.
STEP.1 Press POWER button for 10s to hard reboot, you should feel a long vibration.
STEP.2 When you feel the vibration, press the VOL DOWN button immediately.Keep pressing it until you enter the bootloader.
STEP.3 Use VOL UP&DOWN to switch,POWER to enter

Thank you, for me step 3 is VOL UP. I tested it again and it is confirmed.
An other method for me is POWER OFF and then restart with POWER BUTTON pressed until vibration and then press VOL UP.

Good question. I am missing a twrp developing thread as there are already guys testing, but they only posted in the ordering threads:crying:
It works a little bit different on all treble A/B enabled devices. Those got two boot images, boot_a and boot_b, and don't have a recovery partition any more, as it got incorporated into the boot partitions, and is thus sharing it's space with the kernel. All previous device as well as treble A-only ones still had a separate recovery partition. But that very fact changed with such devices as the U12+ which got full treble support with seamless updates.

Has anyone succeed to run the stock recovery?
After booting in recovery mode I see a red triangle and cannot get any further. Power+VolUp and any other key combinations seems doesn't work.

The haptic keys don't work in combination, only one-at-a-time, so there must be some other way.

Lol, I take it this is your first Android phone? That's the normal stock Recovery. As it was said before, combination of buttons do not work. In Bootloader and Download Mode the volume buttons are switching selections and power selects the highlighted option.

On the older HTC's you could hold volume up and down then press power to enter the stock recovery options. I remember doing this with the M8 I think, it's been quite a while. Lets see if I remember how to embedd images, lol

Yes I understand that part for combo buttons to enter recovery, bootloader and download. Now it is power down and restart holding down volume down button. However there is nothing to do while in stock recovery.

I didn't explain fully, my bad. When you accessed the stock recovery with the red triangle with the exclamation mark, that's when you held power down, up and press power to access the screen shot I attached before. Those were the stock recovery options.
It's irrelevant at this point since I don't think they include those options anymore for the newer stock recoveries. I could be wrong though.
I haven't tried to boot into the stock recovery in years so I haven't checked if it was included in the latest phones. I'm supposed to get my 12 today, I'll try to play around and see if it's included in this one, but I'm not holding my breath.
Edit: I love your themes BTW.

This works on all HTC devices prior to 12+. The question is only about the subj phone.
Easiest way - From powered off state, hold Vol down button and connect the usb cable to either power outlet or a PC, will boot to download/recovery/ etc .

There is no problem to boot into FastBoot mode and then choose any other option: Download/Recovery/System.
The issue is that I can't pass Recovery Red Triangle. HTC support also recommends to hold Power while pressing VolUP, but this does not work on U12+ with the haptic buttons.
