Just updated Turkish N8005 to 4.1.2 but... - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really had some fright. Since device was rooted, upon install High on Android icon started to turn around and I received an error message. I gave up first and tried again. Here is what I got on screen:
CWM v6.0.1.1
E: invalid command argument
Finding update package
Opening upd. pckg.
Verifying upd. pckg.
E: failed to verify whole file signature
E: signature verification failed
Then it asked whether I would go on... and I said YES
installing update... and it went well
Then it asked whether I should keep root or not and I said YES
Upon restart I got the message that the update was failed but it didnt it is 4.1.2
But now it says Your device has been modified software updates are not available.
It was already modified (rooted) before and I received OTA Jellybean update. Why now? And wont I ever be able to receive any update from now on? If it is the case what should I do?

Although it is still found in the settings, detaching pen doesnt open shortcuts window, or any other option. Is it disabled?

[Q] Need some help, please.

Ok so here is the deal, I have read all of the different instructions, I fancy myself as someone who knows how to follow directions, and I am still receiving an error while trying to do the manual update.
The first error I receive is this one: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command I get this error when I go to the system recovery screen, but it still allows me to choose "apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]"
The second error I receive is:
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current System...
assert failed: apply_patch_check
("MTD:boot:1888256:52022649d20fe

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
This error is received when I click "apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
I hope someone can help me with this. Also before you ask, my phone is the MyTouch 3G 3.mm (non-fender), and to my knowledge it is stock. I have no interest in rooting my phone, so that is why I know I didn't root it. However, it is a recent referb that I received from T-mobile after my first one took to the grave. I appreciate anyone willing to be patient with me.
**UPDATE**
My OTA came through last night but it is also failing when it gets about half way through the installation. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this and how I can fix it?
I've encountered this recently and have no idea what causes it!
Long story short... i was trying to get off the Vodafone ROM from my phone and hopefully update too in the process. I flashed a couple of stock ROM images but each time the OTA would fail during installation as would a manual install. At first it would fail signature checking, so i would disable the check using Clockworkmod, run the update again and then i would get the error you posted.
I'm wondering now if the official 2.2.2 update will ever work, even when Vodafone release it, and whether the 2.3 update will also fail when that is released.
You and i may have to bite the bullet and go down the fully custom route. Once Gingerbread is released i'm hoping that one of the chefs releases a nice Stock version that i can use
Actually...
I was soooo frustrated with the way I was treated by a T-mobile rep, when I called about the error today, that I decided to cancel my service with them. I have had several issues with their products and services and continued to give them chances. However, after today's incident I decided to terminate service... just as soon as my new phone from my new provider arrives on Friday.
In addition, since I am no longer going to be using the phone, I decided to try my hand at rooting.... and what do you know, I did it without a problem. LOL Oh well.
Congrats on getting a new phone. It never hurts to have an old one spare to use for experimenting with new ROMs etc.

[Q] HELP! back up failiure?

searched the forums and learnt what i can but need some help...
So i rooted my samsung galaxy s2 with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
then reinstalled the original kernel to get rid of the yellow triangle.
Then I thought it would be best to back up everything before I mess around and i understand Rom manager could do that, so I:
Installed the app,
Selected flash clockwork mod recovery option in rom manger,
Chose backup current rom
it came up with this error:
-- Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i found this thread which sometime said would fix it on some forum
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/06...cwm-recovery-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-ii-how-to/
did what it said, went into rom manager selected backup current rom again and it froze with a yellow triangle and android guy showing. I switched it off and on again then it went through the backup process...
Have I done things correctly? how can I get rid of the yellow Triangle again and still beable to backup? was the freeze screen one moment away from me bricking my phone? and finally how do I restore the back up I made if anything goes wrong?...
I mainly rooted to freeze bloat wear and get access to certain apps so I'm not planning to do anything drastic.
Thank you for your time.
Please help and reassure me

Unable to get 4.0.4 OTA Update

I have a Telus Nexus S running the following;
Baseband Version: i9020AUCKF1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef [email protected]#1
Build Number: GRK39F
I tried to do the OTA update, and it says there are no updates.
I followed this to try to force it to find an update;
Settings --> Applications -> ALL -> Google services Framework --> clear data
2) and do the check in code in the dialer - dial (no spaces) * # * # 2 4 3 2 5 4 6 # * # *
Doesn't seem to work.
Is there any way to install the update to 4.0.4 by flashing it on the phone?
if you know how to use fastboot then you can use these images corresponding to your phone model http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#soju
and here is a guide to use fastboot to flash these images http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
or
you could use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24379505&postcount=87
So I got it updated, following the instructions I found on another site! The package contained an update.zip which was the ICS build IMM76D
This package is for the AT&T/Telus/Roger/Fido/Bell versions of the Samsung (Google) Nexus S running Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread build GRK39F. It will update to Android 4.0.4 build IMM76D. If you have any other version of the phone or Android - IT WILL NOT WORK! Please stop now.
Also, proceed at your own risk.
1. Place the update.zip in the root directory of your MicroSD card.
2. With your Nexus S off press and hold the volume up button and power button until your phone turns on. It will enter a recovery screen.
3. Scroll down using the volume down button and select Recovery by pressing the power button.
4. In a couple of seconds you will see a yellow triangle on your screen, now press the power + volume up button to get to the file selection screen.
5. Choose to install update from SD card using the volume up/down to move the selection and press power to select.
6. It will take about 5 minutes to patch required files and reboot. Upon reboot, it will patch more files during first launch of Android 4.0.4.
It's all working, nice and smooth, love it!
I'm helping a friend with her phone and its not working and this thread helps a lot, but stuck on one part. She is on Android Version 2.3.4, Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-ge382d80. How do I get her phone updated to version 2.3.6 so i can then perform the 4.0.4 update for her?

I followed this;
http://benheide.com/archives/229
Read the comments section, he talks about first upgrading to 2.3.6, then flashing the ICS update. Really straight forward, just make sure your phone is one of the above.
The above should work for AT&T/Telus/Roger/Fido/Bell Nexus S phones which are on 2.3.6 or follow the instructions to get to 2.3.6, then update to ICS 4.0.4.
I just tried to on my friends phone but it failed on the 2.4.6 update (the 17mb one).
Here is the output/error
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
<it gets about 30% and says the following>
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Have you tried to OTA update the phone to 2.3.6? Also the phone is I9020A?
The only OTA is the 4.0.4 and it fails every time it tries to update.
The phone is GT-I9020T.

Yeah those instructions to update it will work for i9020A only
Download this ~17mb update;
http://android.clients.google.com/p...c0.signed-soju-GRK39F-from-GRJ22.7d114042.zip
Run that the same way you did earlier, it's the update for:
Model: Nexus i9020t/i9023
GRJ22 (2.3.4) TO GRK39F (2.3.6)
After you're done, then try the OTA once it's confirmed updated to 2.3.6.
She had to leave, but will be trying it tomorrow. Thanks for the help! Where are you finding these links? Ill be playing with my samsung galaxy s2 soon.
Hey there.
I tired that last package and it still failed. It gets farther, but fails after "verifying current system..."
I'm attaching a picture of it.

Invalid CG wont fix. additional problems

Hi everyone, iam having trouble with my atrix 2 and iam not able to solve even after following already posted steps,
Some brief history to my situation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732688
I did the cwm on boot and went from stock 2.3.5(deleted bloatware) to 2.3.6 supercharged V5 update 1 un intentionally.
I was told to go back to 2.3.5 by flashing fxz, but i kept putting it off for later until the ics rolled out, i wanted to update so i did the
return stock 2.3.5 and i got the invalid cg boot, recovery etc but if i pressed the power button twice my phone booted up into 2.3.5.
Now iam not able to update because of invalid cg and neither can i factory reset.
So i followed invalid cg steps but the short doesnt work the long version does letme goto recovery but fails to apply the update.
When installing update in the last few steps in the long method i get Openig pkg>Installing pkg>assert fail: getprop(ro.product.device) and (ro.build.product)
E: error in /sdcard/update (status 7)
What should i do now?

Need Help With Tablet Update

hi there everyone, short time reader, first post after searching and not finding the help i'm looking for.need a little help with a xyboard 8.2.i did the dan rosenberg root method and deleted a couple of things that i never used.i got the one item back in,but now i can't do the update that verizon pushed to the tablet because of a evernote(one item i deleted) problem.i have re-installed it and it will update on its own,but i can still un-install it since it doesn't see it as a pre-installed app.had i know this would be a problem,i would have never rooted the tablet and just left it alone.it work's out perfectly for me while traveling and when i was using it at work to multi-task on the tablet and laptop using the hotspot feature.i'd like to get the update installed so i can have the option to close out the app instead of it still running in the background, along with getting all of the new features of the ics update.
now here's the part that will cause some problems,i don't know much about androis os,so if anyone can help me,please treat me like an idiot so i can understand what i have to do to get things back to the way they were so i can do the update,or it there is another way to somehow push the update through in another way.once i get everything working again,i will leave the device un-rooted so as i don't have this problem again in the future if anymore updates are pushed to the device.thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
here is the error message i get after the update has failed to install doing it ota:

I don't have experience with Xyboard 8.2, but one thing I think you can try is factory reset your tablet. Follow these simple instruction :
1 - Make a backup of all your data, you don't want to lose family pictures and your music
2 - Go to settings
3 - Go to security
4 - If I'm not wrong there's an option called "Restore Tablet to Factory State", which is what you want
5 - Do it

I never tried it on a Xyboard, so I can't tell if it really works or if it will completely brick your tablet (which I think it won't), I wish you all the luck
Cheers,
XxLordxX
thanks, tried that a couple of times already.it did reset everything, but it wouldn't re-install the original evernote pre-installed app,so it still won't let the update go through.
