Need Help With Tablet Update - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi there everyone, short time reader, first post after searching and not finding the help i'm looking for.need a little help with a xyboard 8.2.i did the dan rosenberg root method and deleted a couple of things that i never used.i got the one item back in,but now i can't do the update that verizon pushed to the tablet because of a evernote(one item i deleted) problem.i have re-installed it and it will update on its own,but i can still un-install it since it doesn't see it as a pre-installed app.had i know this would be a problem,i would have never rooted the tablet and just left it alone.it work's out perfectly for me while traveling and when i was using it at work to multi-task on the tablet and laptop using the hotspot feature.i'd like to get the update installed so i can have the option to close out the app instead of it still running in the background, along with getting all of the new features of the ics update.
now here's the part that will cause some problems,i don't know much about androis os,so if anyone can help me,please treat me like an idiot so i can understand what i have to do to get things back to the way they were so i can do the update,or it there is another way to somehow push the update through in another way.once i get everything working again,i will leave the device un-rooted so as i don't have this problem again in the future if anymore updates are pushed to the device.thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.
here is the error message i get after the update has failed to install doing it ota:

I don't have experience with Xyboard 8.2, but one thing I think you can try is factory reset your tablet. Follow these simple instruction :
1 - Make a backup of all your data, you don't want to lose family pictures and your music
2 - Go to settings
3 - Go to security
4 - If I'm not wrong there's an option called "Restore Tablet to Factory State", which is what you want
5 - Do it
Click to collapse
I never tried it on a Xyboard, so I can't tell if it really works or if it will completely brick your tablet (which I think it won't), I wish you all the luck
Cheers,
XxLordxX

thanks, tried that a couple of times already.it did reset everything, but it wouldn't re-install the original evernote pre-installed app,so it still won't let the update go through.

[Q] Need some help, please.

Ok so here is the deal, I have read all of the different instructions, I fancy myself as someone who knows how to follow directions, and I am still receiving an error while trying to do the manual update.
The first error I receive is this one: E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command I get this error when I go to the system recovery screen, but it still allows me to choose "apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]"
The second error I receive is:

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip

This error is received when I click "apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
I hope someone can help me with this. Also before you ask, my phone is the MyTouch 3G 3.mm (non-fender), and to my knowledge it is stock. I have no interest in rooting my phone, so that is why I know I didn't root it. However, it is a recent referb that I received from T-mobile after my first one took to the grave. I appreciate anyone willing to be patient with me.
**UPDATE**
My OTA came through last night but it is also failing when it gets about half way through the installation. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this and how I can fix it?
I've encountered this recently and have no idea what causes it!
Long story short... i was trying to get off the Vodafone ROM from my phone and hopefully update too in the process. I flashed a couple of stock ROM images but each time the OTA would fail during installation as would a manual install. At first it would fail signature checking, so i would disable the check using Clockworkmod, run the update again and then i would get the error you posted.
I'm wondering now if the official 2.2.2 update will ever work, even when Vodafone release it, and whether the 2.3 update will also fail when that is released.
You and i may have to bite the bullet and go down the fully custom route. Once Gingerbread is released i'm hoping that one of the chefs releases a nice Stock version that i can use
Actually...
I was soooo frustrated with the way I was treated by a T-mobile rep, when I called about the error today, that I decided to cancel my service with them. I have had several issues with their products and services and continued to give them chances. However, after today's incident I decided to terminate service... just as soon as my new phone from my new provider arrives on Friday.
In addition, since I am no longer going to be using the phone, I decided to try my hand at rooting.... and what do you know, I did it without a problem. LOL Oh well.
Congrats on getting a new phone. It never hurts to have an old one spare to use for experimenting with new ROMs etc.

[Q] HELP! back up failiure?

searched the forums and learnt what i can but need some help...
So i rooted my samsung galaxy s2 with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
then reinstalled the original kernel to get rid of the yellow triangle.
Then I thought it would be best to back up everything before I mess around and i understand Rom manager could do that, so I:
Installed the app,
Selected flash clockwork mod recovery option in rom manger,
Chose backup current rom
it came up with this error:
-- Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So i found this thread which sometime said would fix it on some forum
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/06...cwm-recovery-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-ii-how-to/
did what it said, went into rom manager selected backup current rom again and it froze with a yellow triangle and android guy showing. I switched it off and on again then it went through the backup process...
Have I done things correctly? how can I get rid of the yellow Triangle again and still beable to backup? was the freeze screen one moment away from me bricking my phone? and finally how do I restore the back up I made if anything goes wrong?...
I mainly rooted to freeze bloat wear and get access to certain apps so I'm not planning to do anything drastic.
Thank you for your time.
Please help and reassure me

@iGoogleNexus i just updated ice cream sandwich. Not via the guy called beezys btw
however i want to downgrade! As i searched trough internet i couldnt find any answers besides your advice (which did not work for me). If you could help me i will be really appreciated. Please help me and my hopeless situation
Unroot your phone, then you'll be able to flash anything you want, even 2.3.3 no matter what rom you're currently using.
Good luck!
Great! Thank you so much however I don't know how to flash it :/ (n00b)! It would be perfect I'd you could explain it to me too! Thank much you sooooo much again!!!
I'm going to follow this thread closely.
Noob here too.
I have the bone stock NS, I9020T (not rooted) and got the OTA update of ICS 4.0.3. Like the OS but there are too many apps that are either buggy or simply don't work on ICS.
I downloaded the "Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/XXKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader" rom from here on XDA, renamed it to "update.zip" and copied it to the phone. When into the bootloader, selected Recovery and then selected "apply update from /sdcard" and selected "update.zip"
When trying to install the "old" rom, I get this error:
--Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: !less_than_int(1316544229. getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
I have looked all over the XDA site, Android Central and searched Google in general and can't find some simple step-by-step instructions to go back to Gingerbread.
I am SO looking forward to someone to tell me (us) what we're doing wrong and what I (we) need to do to get back to Gingerbread.
Thanks in advance from a Moderator from another (motorcycle) message board.
UPDATE: Installed fastboot and my bootloader is unlocked. Tried again to go back to GB using the steps above and I still get the same error.
good topic ... bump to top for expert advice
As a matter of fact it is not that easy my friend i also tried that method however it did not worked for me too, it gave me the same error. So as rafael said we gotta unroot our phones and we can flash it from there (but how? ) it would ve awesome if someone could help
Thanks
BRICKED!!!
OK i think i bricked my phone after unrooting it i finally got back to gingerbread but a gingerbread that is only capable of mounting and unmounting the storage after unrooting suprisingly clockworkmod recovery was gone! most of the tasks end unexpectedly such as acore, setupwizard and calendar. in android system recovery i have only 4 options: reboot the system, apply update from /sdcard and wipe various data. Besides my mac doesnt see the nexus s via ADB. I am wrecked what should i do?? Any pro tips??
First off, I want to reassure you that your phone is not "bricked". If it was bricked, it would be completely unusable, wouldn't turn on, show anything on the screen etc.
It sounds like you didn't wipe your data before installing the new ROM. This can lead to force closes and issues like what you are experiencing - I have done the same before.
It will be possible to recover your phone. You say in the Android recovery you have access to "Apply Update from SD Card" - simply use this option to flash another ROM, but this time make sure that you wipe the data beforehand. Bare in mind this will remove all personal data from your phone such as apps, contacts etc. However, this should be synced with your Google account and will re-download to your new ROM.
It would be good for another forum member to confirm this before you do anything - I don't have a Nexus S yet (getting it tomorrow ) but I am a developer for other Android handsets.
OK problem solved. After i unrooted somehow magically gingerbread 2.3.6 installed itself (or i did somehow i dont know) after the gingerbread installation i installed the clockwork mod recovery. I found the correct software (Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S) and installed it and the system is running silk smooth for now
Thank you everybody who helped me working this out really appriciate it
Here is what I did...

I have the same problem, how to downgrade from ICS to GINGERBREAD using only non rooted system and OTA update?
I have ICS 4.0.3 if I would like to downgrade Nexus S to 2.3.6 how to i can without root ?
The message is the same
...
assert failed: !less_than_int(1316544229. getprop("ro.build.date.utc"))
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
...
I think that is impossible (without rooting the phone) because probably this assertion
1316544229 < getprop("ro.build.date.utc")
is every time false with condition !(date build of gingerbrade < date build of ICS)

[Q] HTC Sensation ICS Update Failed

Dear xda,
I have HTC Sensation unbranded, unrooted with software Android 2.3.4 having software version 1.50.707.2.(Pakistan/Asia)
I just downloaded the ICS 4.0 update with HTC Sense 3.6 having System upgrade version 3.32.707.10(304.85 MB).
Right after downloading I selected to install the update....Phone booted....started the upgrade process( i guess extracting) and within 20 seconds i had red coloured rectangle.... I pressed the Volume Up+Power Button to get into Android Recovery and tried installing the update from SD card.... It failed as well giving the (Status 7)... and nothing else.... I rebooted the phone and now the Update file has gone.....Right now downloading the update file again...
Any ideas what could have been the problem?
Open for suggestion.
Regards!
I followed this thread,
downloaded latest march 25th link for my XE and it worked flawlessly
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542192
Hope that helps you too.
You need to be S-OFF if you want to manually flash an OTA file, but it should work fine OTA if you're 100% stock (this means you HAVE to have the stock recovery - if you have CWM it will not work)
Out of interest, what is the OTA file name?
Dear EddyOS,
I received the following OTA.
OTA_PYRAMID_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.32.707.10_R-1.50.707.1_release_251591ls4g359w5atckzzw.zip
Last time I installed OTA 1.50.707.1 which removed all the data on the phone. I have not installed CWR as i was waiting for ICS update.
I read somewhere on xda that someone format the SD card and then placed the update file back.. and i got installed. I see no reason to do such.
My last action would be to wipe clean the SD card as well as factory reset the phone to get started from zer0.
here is the installation message i see when i press the Volume Up +Power button, once stuck at red triangle icon.

Talked to HTC Support via Web Chat.... They suggested to Format the SD card with Fat32 and try to install.. did so and no new result.
Other option suggested by HTC Help is to factory rest... which i did... downloading the OTA ICS update in process right now.
I'll update with new findings.

The reason it's failing is it checks that all apks that were part of the RUU are 'stock' ie havent been modified. It looks like your Maps.apk has been altered in some way.
I had flashed a new battery icon when I first got the phone and when I came to update it failed as SystemUI.apk, Framework-res.apk and com.htc.resources.apk had all been modified. Took a week of head scratching and late nights to get over this problem. I eventually extracted the stock files from a clean install, restored via cwm, replaced the offending files using Root Explorer and then ran the OTA update. It was the only way to keep my data as the OTA changes the hboot and removes root. Im now waiting for Revolutionary to update so I can have nandroid backup again.
As above, sounds like you've edited/changed the Maps package
Damn it... formatting SD and resetting to factory default didn't help either... still the same problem... same error message Status 7.
Now i am clueless what to do next
Mr_Erratic could you guide me through for the process you adopted..

I have not changed anything.... what do you say.. i've formatted the SD card... rest the phone to factory...
when i purchased the phone the software version was 1.35.*** . I updated the software,,,normal thing to do... and now i have 1.50.707.1.. After factory reset.. it is still 1.50.707.1,,,, should it not be changed back to 1.35.****
same thing..
I ve same problem please help me..
I have got the same problem here. Difference is that I have rooted my HTC Sensation. I do have the stock rom though.
Yesterday my phone told me that there was an update available (android 4.0). So I downloaded this update, but it won't install. I get the android with the exclamation mark.
I do not know much about this kind of stuf, and neither do I know what information is relevant. What other information should I post?

My sensation is rooted too...hw can i solve the problem....please help...

hey Stabbler, you can check if it is Maps.apk which is failing the pact at the first place.
when you see the red triangle, press volume up+power button... see the installation log...
i guess that there is something wrong with the FOTA..
I down graded my HTC Sensation with software version 1.35.707.1 by wiping clean the sd card and phone(Rest Factory Data)
upgraded it to 1.45.707.1
The upgraded to 1.50.707.1
Neither i rooted my phone nor i install any apps from Market(didn't register the phone with gmail id)
downloaded the ICS update from scratch... and got the same annoying error "Status 7" caused by failure of Maps.apk
I've done everything by the book..... no help whatsoever.
Waiting helplessly

simplest way to un-root your device is to Factory Data Reset
Alternatively, you can try Android Recovery Manager to download your Stock ROM and flash... it is quiet simple as well... But you'll have to download all the updates to date afterwards.

[Q] Updates fail from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2

Hi,
A while back I rooted and unlocked using clockwork recovery and installed bigxie_magurTA_JRO03C-signed.zip
All was good for a while until the last month where I continually receive notification to update to 4.1.2
when I choose install, it attempts to reboot and on the recovery mode, I attempt to run the /sdcard/update.zip and it fails due to signature verification failure.
When I disable the signature verification, it states it cannot open the update file as if it is corrupt or not there,
I then tried to put on cyanogen mod, and when that loaded, I could not enter in my gmail profile info.
I then installed gapps on the next attempt to install cyanogen mod 10 and although more apps (google play app) was listed, still could not enter my gmail info anywhere
i have gone back to the 4.1.1 install I mentioned earlier, and it is running fine, but I am still prompted to update, which fails every single time.
Any suggestions on how to update this, I would be happy to go with cyanogen mod, but no idea really where to start.
I searched for the same error messages I was getting, and found a few posts but not solutions or recommendations,
Also, is this going to happen for every single update from this point on since rooting and unlocking the phone? i would prefer to give up more app control if going back to stock builds means not having to give up this much time for every update.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
