[CM10.1] Signal Constantly Dropping - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello! For almost a month now, my signal constantly has been dropping for about 10-20 seconds every hour or so. I've tried Paranoid, CM10 and Beanstalk with no luck, along with 3 different modems. I'm aware that I've not provided enough information, if someone would be so kind as to tell me what information you will require, I will respond as soon as possible.

That might be because of covering bottom area with your hands.
If you are connected to WiFi, check if the signal drops when you touch bottom right corner. Or somewhere else on bottom.

GPS Fix from Samsung?

I have one more week before my 30 days is up. I need to make a decision if I should keep my Captivate very soon. Do you think Samsung will be able to fix the GPS issue? Can it be fix by a firmware update? Is it a hardware problem? I don't want to live with this problem for the next 2 years.
The time it takes for Captivate to get a lock is one problem but the GPS accuracy is a bigger problem for me. I can be driving down the street and all of a sudden the arrow will jump to a neighboring street. Sometime I stop at a stoplight but the arrow continue on. Basically it's unusable.
Last night I used Glympse to share location from my wife's iPhone 4. The 2 phones were sitting side by side. For 15 minutes, the iPhone's location was steady while the Captivate location kept moving within a 500 yard area.
I've try every solution I could find and none of them would fix all the problems I have.
Im at the same page as you... i have two week from my 30 days. This phone is awsome.. the battery is good enough for me. But thw goa is trowing it off very badly... im forced to go to iphone 4 since i muat stay at att cuz of family plans... shame.. i love this phone and i will wait for an update till the very last date..

I had the same GPS problems as everyone when I first got my Captivate, I even tried the fixes by changing the server and enabling skyhook, etc. Then I flashed the JM2 ROM from the Development thread, and my GPS works great now! I always get a lock within 1-2 minutes on a cold start, and within 10-15 seconds on a warm start. The accuracy does jump around a bit, but it is usually within 15-20 feet.
Not to mention the ROM just flies, especially with the Lag fix.
Cheers

Does your google navigation work with the flash rom? I can never get it off of the "searching for GPS",

Yeah I just tried it. It did take a bit longer than normal to acquire since I am at work and inside a 6 story building, but I just put it by the window and in about 2 minutes it acquired 4-5 sats, launched navigation and it said searching for GPS for about 9-10 seconds. I am VERY happy with the JM2 ROM with lag fix.

Well you talked me into flashing this rom and seeing if it is any improvements. The GPS issue is the only thing holding me back on if I should keep this phone or not. I have a week to decide and hopefully this JM2 ROM does something. Was the ROM designed to help GPS problems?

I am in the same situation as you, I really love the phone but do not want it if they can not get the GPS working properly.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on flashing the ROM!

The only way I can get a text to clear is if I click each individual text that I receive. It stopped me from using the stock rom.

[Q] Little to no signal? [Valhalla Black]

I searched but didn't come up with anything, or I'm doing it wrong.
In the last three days suddenly I have little-to-no signal. My wife has a SGS4G with the stock T-mobile Gingerbread ROM on it and she'll have anywhere from 2-3 bars more signal than I do.
Right now I'm staring at my phone and I have excellent wi-fi (being 6 feet from my router) but no cell signal at all.
I haven't done anything differently with my phone in the last three days.
I *have* started jogging with it in the last few weeks... could the antenna be coming loose from the bouncing? I wear it in one of those neoprene armbands.
Where should I start?
Thanks in advance!
Jim
Signal bars are not going to be exact. Its better to check the dbm rating.
settings>about phone>status then check signal strength.
I have seen two phones running stock firmware sitting side by side and the bars are different but the dbm rating is the exact same.

Fair enough! So what is considered "good" signal? Earlier I had "-97dbm/11 asu" and no service. Right now I have -103/5 and 3 bars.
Also, I forgot to mention in my original post that sometimes when I have no service if I flip to airplane mode and back I get my service back. But then sometimes no.
Very annoying.
Thanks again!
Edit: Now I'm at -109/2 and no signal. My wife is at -105/4 and "2 bars." The phones are side-by-side.
You just have to wait. When the internet thing becomes "E" it usually becomes 4g in a few seconds to minutes.

Try a few different modems and test them for a bit to see which may work best for you.
A modem that works best for me here in Orlando may not work as good for someone in lets say.....Ohio
Okay I'll look into that. I still don't get why this would be a change in the last week when it's been fine for the last year that I've had the phone and the past two months I've been on VB. :dunno:

May just need to clean the phone...
I use to wipe format and reinstall windows on my computers every 6 months
Wiping doesn't do anything except get rid of all the apps and giving you more room. I would be a suggestion if you new how to back the stuff up. Also it will go back to little to no bars.

Well I'll look at a different modem - I'm just baffled that it could go to crap so fast. It's really irritating to have the data come and go while I'm standing still looking at a tower less than ΒΌ mile away.
I'll do some searching but if anyone has an idea of what modems work best for what & where... that'd be great.
Tried flashing to KG4.
"Mobile network not available."
Wifey's phone is running KJ6 just fine. *sigh*
Edit: Ditto for KC1. (I'm going through the modem thread to see what modems people like.)
Edit: Ditto for KG6.
Edit: Ditto for KD1.
Edit: Ditto for KI3. (Almost looked like it was going to work - had a little signal at first but it disappeared before I could register on the network.)

Wifi and modem are two separate chips so that makes sense. Seems like you've already done a lot to try and get better service. Have you flashed back to stock? I'd try that and then see. If the problem persists I would bet hardware.

I'm on the line with T-mobile tech support right now. She's recommended a "factory reset." I figured what the heck because it seems like the next step is reflashing VB again...
EDIT: Weird weird weird. The "factory reset" from the Settings menu didn't work. Tried it twice. Then I tried it from the CWM menu. Also did not delete my data. But after rebooting from the CWM "factory reset"... I had my signal back.
So........... wtf. lol
Right now I'm on KI3 and I guess I'll leave it unless I have some reason to switch back to KJ6. lol
Thanks for the help guys!
Hmm so I guess I was right....lol
About the wipe and re flash.

Wifi calling

I was wondering how many people actually use wifi calling? I personally do not always had dropped call issues even stock unrooted. I ask this cuz I read that milestone 6 build 2 has removed to increase Wi-Fi stability. If that's the case maybe it could be excluded from builds till we get another kernal

I use is very frequently at home because I don't get very good coverage. I have problems with drops on it, though. I get "Wifi signal lost. Call dropped." but never really took the time to look into the issue, though, due to lack of time.
I also use it a lot at home, because T-Mo's signal is very weak inside our condo. Obviously, my wifi signal is very strong when I'm sitting in the same room as the router, so I don't have issues with dropped calls on wifi.

I'm actually near my router when it happens. I have a repeater across the house (with line of sight to the main router) so that I have really good coverage. I don't know if my problem is potentially the router & repeater dropping the call when they re-handshake, if it's my router (it's a tad old) doing something stupid, or if it's a T-Mobile issue. It is potentially a combination.
This was discussed the other night in irc. Bhundven stated we will never get wifi calling on the ics roms. There is libs that cant be ported in to the builds. Im sure somebody will come along and say otherwise but until they can prove him and m4xm4n wrong Im going to figure this is fact and not bug them about it.
Like I said in the other thread there is two options, but I forgot about the third so actually its three.
1. Use something like grooveip and forward calls to your google number.
2. Stick with stock based roms.
3 Put a bounty up get enough people donating and we might get other devs interested in helping out to find a way to make it work.
I dont think it will happen but who knows.
I can care less if it ever works I'm on an unlimited plan and don't understand in this day and age why people would settle for anything less, I know times are tough but this is our toy get the most out of it

Then why start a thread about it?
i was just interested to see how many people actually use this service, i would of just added a poll to it but could find that option. If you read the OP I stated that i read that it was removed from kernal to increase wi-fi stability. My point is that if removing this from roms until a fix is found, would many people really care. If it increases my wi-fi by removing this im all for that no matter what rom i am running, and if not many members use it i'd say keep it gone. This is just my opinion

Its not a matter of having unlimited minutes. Its in some areas t-mo has no service. Like certain office building or 20 miles out in the middle of no-where.

Some people have this thing call wired internet that is connected to a wifi router. They put them in their houses so their computers can connect to them.

For those with limited minutes, that's still not always the issue - most Tmo plans (with a couple exceptions) still count wifi calling against your minutes. It's purely a matter of reception and/or clarity. Tmo decided not to support femtocell (personal cell tower) solutions in favor of wifi calling to cover dead spots.
Likewise, it's not always a matter of being in the middle of nowhere. I'm in a large city, my office is a quarter mile from a tower, but reception inside is spotty due to thick, reinforced walls. My apartment is on a basement level, with no signal whatsoever. Without wifi calling, I'm stuck on stock derived roms for the time being. I'm considering GrooveIP, as I've used my gVoice number for everything for years, but have reliability and memory use concerns about going that route.
All that said, I can also understand perfectly well why it's not supported on the current CM roms, and why it is unlikely to be supported any time in the near future. I appreciate the work that's gone into them, and hope sometime soon I'll have a chance to try them out.

I am fine at home, but we have similar work situations. I'm in the 2nd basement of my building and no signal at all. I also have a child in high school...in a major city, which means I NEED TO BE CONNECTED. Kids in the city...you never know, right? For a minute I thought Erikmm's miui 2.0 was giving me wifi calling, but discovered after a day of missed calls that it does not. So, I fall back to Raver's Val Black for my daily (using miui home launcher for the eye candy) and flash new stuff, like erikmm and dao, on the weekends, just to play. Slight pain in the butt moving back to V Black each Sunday night, but it's worth it.

Data Issues With CM 9

Since I can't post in the dev thread, [ROM][Official]MyTouch4G Slide CyanogenMod 9 #1644084, I'm posting here.
I've been having the network issue intermittently, where sometimes my phone won't connect to data. Others in the CM9 thread have reported similar problems.
The problem:
Status bar indicator is just bars with no letter, but intermittently shows a ((2|3)?G|H){1} for a moment, and then goes back to just bars.
Phone info activity shows GPRS service as disconnected.
Issue first occurred for me 2012-06-19
Possible solution:
A few days ago I noticed that it only happens to me after I go to the basement or some other area where there is no cell signal. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem, BUT: oddly enough, when experiencing the problem, briefly visiting one of these locations again actually solves the issue (each and every time, ~15 times so far). Sometimes it takes a few trips in to and out of the dead zone, but it always works for me.
I want to see if this works for others, and if anyone has ideas of why this might be?
I don't know what information might be helpful to gather, so tips would be great.
My hope is that this can help others with this issue, and maybe that it will lead to a permanent fix.
Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to join the IRC lately and explain this to korny/tbladen.

I saw that thread but wasn't sure if it was the same issue, since I've only had it with this CM9 Alpha (4|5) ROM and not others. Good point though, should suggest this. Thanks!
It looks like others are still seeing this issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28848868

How to diagnose stability issues

Have had my S3 for a little over a week. Every single day it freezes and I have to pull the battery. No rhyme or reason, it just locks up. I notice it when I leave a wifi area, use 4g lte for a while driving then join another network, let's say in the office. Give it a couple minutes after joining wifi and it will lock up. I'm on Verizon. I thought it might have something to do with wfioffloading so I installed anycut and have disabled that. Which I like by the way, very cool prog.
Has anyone experienced this and if so diagnosed the problem? I cant do anything with the phone. I need to pull the battery.
Anything at this point would help. Frustrated.

Stock rom as I noted in the post. Not rooted. Totally stock. Now it might be an app thats causing this. Just dont know how to diagnose this. Any log files I can have a look at?
Here is a bit more information. When switching from wi-fi to celluar coverage or vice versa is when this happens the most. Happened twice today when turning on wi-fi after walking in from outside. This happens at work mostly but has happened other places as well. Had to pull battery twice already today.
