[Q] Problems with internal storage - P3100 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I had some troubles with my Tab these days, and I took him to an authorized assistance.
My problem was solved, but the internal storage had an serious reduction. Like, from 11 GB to 4.
I took my tab back there, and talked to the guy who did the job.
Well, I'm a noob, but that guy... was a deception. So, I gave up on trying to solve my problem there.
I want to know what could he have made. Like, create a wrong partition, or installed the wrong softwares, or to the wrong version of tab.
Since now, thanks.

Hi Ettore
this rather sounds as if you have a P3100 with 16 GB.
And a sudden reduction to 4 GB may mean that he flashed a wrong partition table (for the 8 GB device) on it.
I'd advise to flash back an original stock rom from within Odin plus the partition table for the 16 GB version of the device (http://www.droidevelopers.com/attac...ps-pit-files-signed_espresso_20120220_16g.rar for 16 GB SGT7 2 7-16GB). Keep the Re-Partition box checked

[Q] Camera not running at all - Turn off usb storage to use camera

Guys
I am very dissapointed with the galaxy s that I recently bought from singapore. It doesnt have international warranty, which is kind of awkward. Next, I am not able to
1. use the camera (always getting msg - Turn off USB storage to use camera)
2. not able to use Internal 16 gb memory as it says (Internal SD card - total space: unavailable, avialable space: unavailable) - I somehow managed it work once though by removing the battery and setting to factory settings. Then the camera also started to work. However, when I restart the phone it went back to "unavailable - internal and external memory" again. camera is complaining to turn off usb storage to use it.
3. not able to make use of external memory as mount sd card and format sd card are grayed out and total space/available spaces are showing as unavailable)
I am currently on Factory rom with following specifications.
Baseband Version I9000DXJPB,
Firware Version - 2.2;
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9 root-at-SE-S604 #1;
Build Number : FROYO.DXJPE
I have been searching on net for solutions but not been successfull yet. Can anyone please help as I am getting very emotional about the money I spent on it. I will be very thankful to the brainy people out there who can resolve my Galaxy S issues. I dont want to loose such a wonderful mobile because of the above petty issues. Samsung helpdesk at NZ are not responding for some reason and same as the singapore samsung helpdesk.
Thanks in advance

step one get odin
step 2 visit the vibrant fourms as this is a galaxy s 4g not the vibrant
step 3 download a odin stock rom (pre rooted or not) that has the pitt file
step 4 re parttion and flash
step 5 use phone as intended
Ask in the vibrant section or I9000 we have never seen. This problem because we don't have the same hardware

Hi Guys!
I was just googling in order to find the ways to solve this problem.
Every time I push on camera icon the phone asks me to turn off USB before i want
to use the camera.I have done this 100 times but this doesn't solve my problem.
The second problem is that the phone does not find the sd card!
I am sure that this has nothing to do with sd card, coz the sd card is ok (I have changed 3 different cards already)
Model number I9000
Firmware version 2.3.4
Baseband version I9000XXJVQ
DarkyROM v10.2
The phone is having those problems since several months. It belongs to my dad who could not solve the problem and bought an Iphone 4
Nevertheless I am trying to fix this and flashed Darkyrom 10.2 today.(the phone has had Darky'srom 5.2,which I flashed in October 2010)
Model number I9000
Firmware version 2.3.4
Baseband version I9000XXJVQ

PLEASE HELP
P.S.sorry for mistakes I have probably done.English is not the language I am fluent in.
Anyone knows how to fix this? Please HELP
Noticed today that both cameras work great while videocalling. But the problem remains

Should I flash back to original rom?
What should mean ''re partition and flash" ?
Thanks

Bane themm!!!!!! lol
Seriously guys.... raver just posted how to fix TWICE.... and you're in the WRONG FORUM for the 8th time.

I don'nt have 16gb ....

Hi,
i've bought 2 days ago the tab. It's a branded TIM (italian carrier).
So i've decided to fit a stock rom like in the tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686514.
Everithing is fine, but i now don't see the 16gb.
If i tap settings/memory i get:
Memory on board
1,97 gb total
sd card
it's empty because noone is inserted
Then i run titanium backup to get some more info and i get:
internal rom 1.26gb (269 mb free)
internal: 2.11GB (1.79 gb free)
sd card: 2.11GB (1.79 gb free)
sd card and internal are the same thing for titanium backup ?? They are the same.
Could you please help me to find the lost ram ??
THANK YOU
PS If i insert a micro sd, in titanium backup i've one more row:
ext. sd card: 3.95 gb (2.73 gb free)

which galaxy tab 2 version did you have, currently there are 3 version for the 7 inch alone, P3110 (wifi only), P3113 (wifi only plus iR), and P3100 (with GSM enabled). The P3113 have 8 GB storage while the rest is varied between 16 - 32 GB.
I've the gt-5100 wifi+3g 16gb
Weird, on my P3100 (7 inch GSM 16 Gb) there's 11.87 Gb total in settings>memory. Could it be because yours is carrier branded version which usually has been modified to some extent, maybe try rooting and installing new stock / custom rom and see the result again?
I need your help.
I've started with CWM, done a full wipe (dalvik, cache, user)
Installed another rom (the Fry rom)
Done again a full wipe.
I get the same free space as on first post
I have the same problem, and when i flashed stock rom with the pitefile, i got 4.56Gb total memory on board.......Still missing about 8gb...
I have solved the problem guys. You have to flash the stock rom with a pifile called signed_espresso_20120220_16G, this opens for 16gb total memory. I have the file, but i cant upload it, so send me your mail adress and i will mail the file to you ho needs it.
Is it for the 10" or the 7" ??
I've done a search on google and i'm not sure what the file is for ... and it seems to be for the 7" version of the gtab.
Any further info ?
thank you
PS
when i used odin to install the rom i did not checked re-partion, following the instruction of the link on the first page. I installed the stock rom and then the ram was 2gb. Then i've installed the fry rom (that is a stock plus some whistle) with a full wipe. But i've the same problem.

Try downloading the official non branded firmware from sammobile.com or samfirmware.com, flash it using odin and use full wipe / erase.
I got 12gb back...this is how i did it...i flashed stock Rom 4.0.4...then went into recovery(not cwm) and did the full wipe there....and i got gb12 gb back...hope it works for u

[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (GT-p5113) Internal Storage Issues after flashing custom ROM

So after rooting and flashing the "Clean" ROM v1.1 I had internal storage issues. First the gallery app would not work. It would give me a message "not enough memory" when trying to open it. Also I could not save any downloads, I would get a message that download failed. So, I recovered to the stock ROM provided in the guide (I have a GT-p5113). Recovering to this stock ROM fixed the above issues. However at this time I noticed that my internal storage shrank from the stock 16GB to about 2 GB total (even if i deleted everything my total internal storage would only be 2GB). So it's like my internal memory went from 16GB to 2GB for no reason. See attached screenshot. I'm not sure if that happened after installing the custom "Clean" v1.1 ROM or when I recovered back to the stock ROM. I've since flashed both the "Infected" ROM and the CM9 ROM and with those I still have the reduced storage area and the problems with the gallery app and inability to save downloads.
Anyone have any ideas what happened and how I can get my storage space back?
Same Problem here
Im having the same problem with mine Ive flashed all three of those roms and have no internal storage space left really. the Misc Files in internal storage has jumped to 8.34 GB and an available 2.18 left.
Please someone help us.
P.S. if you figured out how to fix this please post back.
Thanks!
Gallery "not enough memory"
Similar issue. Tried wiping Dalvik but still not working. Installed 3 times wiping data each time. Any ideas?
Same exacts specific problem as kdubbfive.
im not sure Dunkn.Mynes has the same problem. He is losing free space as if something is taking up room .Dunkn, check you r. clockworkmod directory isnt on your internal memory, taking up more room each time you r un a back up.
Just to underline kdubbfive's problem.
have gt-p5113 - same here
installed cleanrom 1.1 - - same here here
total internal memory shrunk from 16gb to 2gb - same here
restored and tried other roms, internal memory remains 2gb
Weird thing is i had the exact same problem putting clean rom on my phone - Motorola atrix
if i dont he of any fixes ill probably try factory restore with kies and the computer image. i only have a chinese stock image that is suppoosed to be the same as USA version. but I'm not convinced of it.
ill post if i get the nerve to try this our find another fix. if anyone has stock image for gtp5113 p please post. good luck.
Thanks for the Info - Hope to find Solution
Glad to hear someone else is having the exact same issue. I've been going crazy trying to find a solution. Please post if you are successful. I'll do the same.

HERE's what worked for me (kind of a complete wipe)
I'm a novice, first time writing instructions, and 2nd time ever posting so let me know if I missed something, and I'll try to get back to you on it.
Make backups as best you can (CWM recovery, Titanium, nandroid)
ALL DATA WILL BE LOST. Haven't tried recovery of data yet. That's the concept behind all the backups above.
Not sure all was neccessary, or what step was key so here is all of it:
Install Kies http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
Connect tablet and follow any Samsung Instructions exactly
What is says there is updated ROM available, allow it to to install.
On reboot your system will not be rooted, and data will be there (only for the moment), on mine internal storage was still 2GB
Do a factory reset, wipe any cache and all that. Maybe repeat for good luck.
Follow the rooting instructions exactly here including re-downloading files and following all precautions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
(I noticed the cwm file has a PIT file in it which relates to internal memory partitioning. I suspect this may have been key here.)
Follow instructions all the way to the end.
In the end I had 12GB internal which is normal because I think there are 2 2GB hidden partions there for ROM and maybe swap file, I don't know)
I'm going to make a backup now, then go back to see what I can recover. On second thought, maybe I'll just start fresh. Also, I think I'm done with custom roms. I can deal with the junk Samsung programs for the sake of dependability.
Good luck. I'll check back to see if you have questions.
Thank You!!!
Worked like a charm! Thanks, a million!

Tab became very slowly after copying more than 8Gb on internal storage

Hi people.
I've got strange problem.
Tab works very good while internal storage is empty and becomes very slowly after copying about 8-9Gb on internal storage.
So slow, that i have to wait up to 15 seconds to start, for example, Dolphin Browser.
The only way to get normal working speed is to clear internal storage and flash stock ROM via Odin.
I've tested two various 7.7 16 Gb Tabs on stock and on custom ROMs and got the problem is all cases.
Does anybody know what is the reason of this?
lagfix from Play Market solves my problem.
2Moderator: You can delete topic, but it may be usefull for somebody. I think I'm not the only one noob with this problem who couldn't find the solution with forum search.
Funny thing, same problem cropped up recently on my Tab 7.7 running Cyanogenmod 10.
The embedded MMC became very slow. Since lagfixes just reformat the partitions to ext4 and CM10 does already use ext4 they will not be any help. Doing a wipe from recovery didnt help anything.
I will probably try reflashing to stock and wiping with Odin. Maybe that will help.
supposedly deactivating mediascanner improves nothing either?

[Q] GT 10.1 (P7510) - 11 GB of storage missing after CM10.1

Hi all,
I couldn't post this in the GT CM 10.1 forum coz I just registered..
I have the latest nightly on my GT-P7510 (16 GB). My problem is that ever since I first installed CM10.1 back in October, I lost about 11 GB of free space. When I go to "storage" in Settings, the graphic bar shows a large section of memory as free but "available" storage is indicated as under 0.5 GB..! (Caps attached). And I know that the reported figure is the relevant one because I am unable to update my apps due to "insufficient memory".. When I restore back to 4.0.1 I get the memory back.. In short, about 11 GB of storage has disappeared or is unusable for some reason when running CM10.1. Any ideas?
Thanks..
A bit more info and a bump up:
I checked the filing system and realized the following strange situation: CM10.1 installation copied my files to 4 different locations:
1. root/sdcard (as before CM10.1 installation)
2. root/storage/sdcard0/
3. root/storage/emulated/0
4. root/storage/emulated/legacy
Each of the above folders have exactly the same size, the same folders and the same number of files, i.e. they look like actul copies and not just images. This would explain why I have so little storage left with only 1.6 GB of personal stuff on the tablet. If they were just images why wouild they be taking up space? It looks like everything I download is copied to 4 different locations.. Surely all that quadruplication cannot be necessary..!? If the extra 3 folders are just sys links, then why are they taking up space? In short, which folder is the one the system uses and which are the ones I can safely delete?
Thank you for your suggestions.
