Anyone get this HTC email? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I just got an email from HTC with a countdown timer and the date Feb 19 2013. It is titled "the countdown has begun". Anyone else get this And do they know what it means?

Yup, I got the email. As mentioned above, its for the unveiling of the new HTC flagship device. Code named M7, and rumor says it will be simply called the "One".
For those that didn't get the email, it links to this webpage: http://www.htc.com/www/?cid=email_promo_HTCTeaser_body_img_HTC
The webpage shows a blurry glimpse of the phone whenever the clock's seconds digit hits "1" second (51, 41, etc.). And the "1" turns green, further indicating that the new device will be carry the "One" branding.

As far as rooting and custom roms go I dont know, but definantly not on the phone specs itself. Even if it had basicly the same specs as the dna it wouldn't be a let down.

I'll probably be looking for an upgrade to my One X in the next few months. So in terms of that, I don't think it will disappoint. Of course the DNA is very recent, so the new flagship wont be a huge leap forward in comparison. But the DNA isn't an option for me anyway.
Not sure I'm crazy about the looks of the new phone in the leaked photos (if they turn out to be true). But specs wise, I think I'll be happy.

I'm excited but disappointed with HTC not getting with AT&T to push Jelly Bean to our HTC One X... This will probably be my last HTC device, spent $549 on this phone to find it obsolete 9 months later while every other manufacturer is pushing JB to their devices. The issue is with HTC & AT&T, both are coming close to being on the same level in my opinion. This is the best phone I've ever owned and it's camera proved itself next to a Canon ELPH 320 HS & Canon T3 --- but if a company wants to purposely outdate their phones, they will lose customers such as myself.

Odd to see this type of comment on XDA. XDA exists so we can mod our phones however we like, not wait around for stock OTAs from our carrier. Just unlock your bootloader and be done with it. Jellybean has been available since last July (in the form of CM10), and "official" Sense JB since December. AT&T JB is not going to bring us anything we don't already have now.

The HTC One was unveiled this morning. Looks pretty hot:

[Q][OPINION] One S for Galaxy Nexus

I thought I would get some feedback from fellow One S users: I just saw how frickin' awesome Jelly Bean is going to be, and have come across an opportunity to trade my One S for a GNex (which has already begun receiving the JB update). Given how long it takes for HTC to roll out ANYTHING, should I make that jump? I know there are a few trade offs, namely an inferior camera on the GNex. But JB looks so sweet, and I am a HUGE fan of vanilla Android. What do others think?

I know the One S has better specs, but who knows how long we will be waiting for JB. I guess my main gripe with the One S is how we're stuck with Sense. I tolerate it, but I vastly prefer vanilla Android and AOSP. I know some AOSP builds have made progress but still have problems with no real solutions in sight yet, like camera and connectivity issues.

I was thinking about the same thing too but i'm just gonna keep the One S.
weeks from now we'll get it ported and our device will be SWEET!
Hopefully within 6 months HTC will give us an OTA update also.
Nexus has the better screen+NFC+JB but our One S is superior in design, power, camera, & sound.

Things are working to a degree but CM9 is still far from my daily driver standards. I check that thread all the time and keep seeing issues pop up, particularly with picture/video recorder quality, which is a deal breaker for me.
And I would be getting money on top for the GNex, if this guy ever gets back to me. I wouldn't even really need much back to even out what I spent since I talked the T-Mo reps down to $100 for my One S when I got it.

HTC is not TOO bad when it comes to releasing software updates. It certainly is not the worst, *cough* Samsung. Once Google officially releases the source of Jellybean, HTC will begin updating Sense to 4.1. It's safe to say that we would not receive and update until at least 1-2 months after the release; possibly more, depending on HTC's developers. One thing I am skeptical about is waiting to T-Mobile to release their version of HTC Sense with T-Mobile apps and bloatware. If anyone is on stock T-Mobile waiting for an update, this is one thing to consider. I am sure this will not take long as all T-Mobile has to do is add its apps and bloat ****, then release it.
Regarding the difference between the GN and HOS handsets, our device is much better; at least, in my opinion. We have a MUCH better build quality (metal, sleek). We also have better specs, albeit, no sdcard slot. Just because a device gets and update first does not mean it is the best. The GN has it first because it is still the flagship stock Android device as it is a Nexus device. If our HOS was on stock ICS with no Sense, we would get the update at the same time as well, most likely. In sum, we just have to wait a bit longer
EDIT: benchmark scores do not mean ****.

Why I should have avoided HTC ONE X (AT&T)

This is the first time i am writing a post against an innovation, first of all i would like to mention that i like HTC ONE X that i own since May 2012 from AT&T, so this is not a hate post its more of an really upset post. HTC according to its promises during launch of one series was supposed to provide constant updates and bug fix for a group of satisfied customers, but it started making them unhappy once again when they were not releasing issues related to Wifi and calls with One X. After the release of Samsung S3 and Iphone 5 the company forgot its promises and stepped back and again changed their primary focus from Android to Windows, releasing a few window phones in Oct 2012 after iphone. Then they made a very huge mistake by releasing the HTC ONE X+ last week, where the specs of the phone are amazing for US market, but forgot to think about the 4 milllion users currently using the HTC One X. Did HTC really think we would be happy with the new phone or sad as the phones we use now are outdated within 6 months and are being sold at $29.99 and has no value of carriying it, which we bought for $149.99 or for some $199.99. And now we will have to see other people using the HTC One X at the cost of us as we tried the phone trusting the brand to keep it exclusive.
Less Battery Life, Slower CPU, Less Space, previous andrioid OS @ a higher Price. Welcome to HTC family of testers. I will make sure any product i buy next is not from HTC or its affiliates. I will buy a Samsung or an Iphone for sure, confident about them not releasing a similar product within 6 months.
Thanks HTC for making me a tester, i will make sure i don't become again. Same for AT&T for releasing it in US. You just lost a cusomter for sure.
Name one company didn't do what HTC does. Let's face it, any Android phones can only have 3 to 6 months of shielf life.
I don't have any issues with WiFi or calling. I have no doubt you have a legitimate issue, but I also don't think its that widespread. HTC is a great phone company. I've stuck with them through 5 devices, since the old Windows Mobile days. The only beef I have with them, is their anti-development posture (despite their claims to the contrary) with the locked bootloaders, and their decision to cavort with AT&T to not allow a bootloader unlock for the One X. I'm willing to bet that future HTC devices on AT&T will be similarly locked down, and that if anything will prevent me from buying their devices in the future.
The One X is an amazing piece of hardware. Them offering an update to the device is logical business sense, and doesn't degrade the real value of my phone (how I use it every day). All Android devices drop in retail value. I don't resell my devices, so I can care less. The X+ is not even out yet. So the One X is still by far the best phone out there. The GS3 has a crappy cheap feel. The iPhone 5 has a dinky screen, and a funny candy bar shape, its a joke to me. The One X is the best there is.

I think he was talking more about how long a phone stays the flagship, how fast the price drops, when it gets superceded by a new phone. HTC has a bit to be desired for updates, for sure. But all the Android manufacturers have a major hardware release every several months. GS3 is newer than the One X, and Samsung already has the Note 2 coming, and I think a smaller version of the GS3, as well.
htc could keep the bootloader how it is but allow htcdev for unlock on at&t, that would let use flash on all firmwares and still keep people from bricking their phones with tegra roms. i think that should be an acceptable compromise for the time being.
Care to tell us where to buy this magical One X+ thats supposedly for sale since last week? That would be great!

Which ones: there are three different versions of GS2: Original GS2, GS2 LTE/Skyrocket and GS2 LTE with HD screen (Korean only). All released within 2 or 3 months of each other. Not to mention GS3 was released soon after that. As far as I know, other than ICS update, there is no other updates for AT&T versions.

I'm not happy with the fact that the CEO of the company, Peter Chou said out his own mouth that an official bootloader unlock solution would be provided for every phone after late 2011. It's Oct now and this phone still does not have that. Because of that, this will more than likely be my first and last product I'll buy that's an HTC made product.

One word: Nexus.
No wifi issues, No dropped calls here...
sure HTC falls behind a little on the update department but the HOX+ is not a mistake, the new flagship comes with JB which will be available a couple of weeks after the official release on the HOX and HOS, and every phone manufacturer releases an updated/better/newer version every 6 months or so.
About Samsung... 4 diferent types of S2 or something... maybe more on other carriers (who knows), Skyrocket couple of months after the release of the S2, then the Galaxy Note... Samsung made the same thing and considering the crazy amount of phones HTC released last year... this is an improvement... sort of xD
Hopefully JB will come out soon (if is not out alredy...havent look into it), and all your bugs will go away

You're right they're not. Process of unlocking them isnt an issue though.
By HTC releasing a new, upgraded version of their flagship device during the same year, customers really feel like they have made a bad decision...
But....you could argue the one x plus is necessary, because the one x, one s, each sgs3 variant and countless others all are essentially the same device, with an s4 soc and at least a gig of ram.
the only variance is screen size, storage, and the materials used to build each device.
Nice to see a unique device on the market. Its not the same thing as every other phone out there.

That's how it is
In Android world if your phone stays on top for 6 months...consider yourself lucky...new phones launch every week...and samsung is no different...Galaxy S (Vibrant) was awful...no updates except from 2.1 to 2.2 and it had very bad firmware...thanks to CM...I am running 4.1 on it now

Man...some of you don't seem to understand how the update process works. Weather HTC said this month or not it doesn't matter. You service provider has final say as to when you get your precious update.
As of yesterday give it take " update for the one x and one s will be November and December respectively"!

A lot of us have sim free devices, which means we don't have to rely on network providers, so in theory if HTC released the JB update for Europe, every sim free one s that was bought from Europe should have the JB update by the end of the week, likewise for USA etc. Network locked/branded phones have to wait.
Sim free device means it comes down to the CID number.
Although with the way things worked out for the last update, it sounds like you're better of with branded phones
Take 5-10 seconds to read this thread, I already posted that quote in this thread already......
Regarding as to if JB will make a difference or not, many people who have the GS 3 have said the difference in smoothness is pretty big coming from ICS and from my experience the GS 3 is smoother than the S, just not as nippy/speedy though.
Besides there is more to it than just project butter:
- notification tray UI update
- improvement in battery slightly
- improvements in sense such as themes for the SMS sense app, camera UI, battery history/graph
No doubt there will be other improvements, possibly improving signal/wifi performance even more.

I'm just going to throw this in here also... Coming from a family who has ran a small business, deadlines are hard to keep. You may think with 100% certainty that something will be done by then, but something else pops up and you have to focus on that.
Even with HTC being a bigger company they have a TON of other things to worry about, not going out of business for one. There's no way HTC has as many developers on board as Samsung and Google at the moment, not to mention how much more work goes into Sense UI than Touchwiz.

As someone already mentioned, the recent OTA update is great, and gets any job done for all intents and purposes. This is a case of wanting the shiny new thing right away - I say you're lucky you don't have to buy a new phone to get it at all, IMHO.
If you can give a solid example how JB will fix a major problem, or make your Android-Phone-using life drastically better, I'll reconsider. In the mean time I'm more than happy with what I have.

Couldn't agree more. I don't see how much better my phone can get, it does anything and everything I want it to. It lasts me more than all day, except if I play heavy games (Which is a given with any phone...)
If you want fast updates, and a lot of them go to a iphone.
Everyone is nagging on HTC, while not enjoying what they have.
Jellybean will not drop until after the one x+ drops. Count on it. That's how they get that small percentage of impatient people to upgrade.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but give HTC a break.
I mean, it is them but it is us too.
Several companies haven't even pushed ICS yet.
And are you kidding? Not many things changed, just an addition of Google Now and some other things. I would understand if they like promised like 5.0 Kandy Kane/Key Lime Pie/Krispy Kreme or whatever, but no.
The update is also confirmed to start rolling out in October-November.
HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.
Also, look at other companies. Samsung, Huawei, Sony, Alcatel, etc. All companies are never sure when they are going to release it. I'm sure it's not easy to develop something for ever single device and customize everything to a liking. All phone companies lie.
Hope that helps!
I also think the main reason they could be late is because of rebasing it on 4.1.2 instead of 4.1.1, to avoid another update in the future.

Hi guys !
If you look at the link below, it says (in French sorry :/) that the htc one x & s (SFR branded) will be updated on the 6th November. It also mentions that they are now validating internally the update.

This.
I am sure JB has been ready for quite a while now, well most certainly for the one X anyway.
Only reason they don't release it for the X is due to the above, another selling point for the X+.
Exact same happened with the GS 3 and the GS 3 LTE model in the UK, only in the last few days have GS 3 UK owners been getting the JB update despite the LTE model being out for a month or a few weeks iirc. Only difference between them is one has an extra GB of RAM and is LTE supported.
I am in no rush at all really, however, I would like to get the update before the end of the year though especially since I can't see us getting 4.2.....
Here is just a glimpse preview of what JB and the new sense will bring, it is for the X though and some stuff isn't right i.e. we do have the notifications new features, which shows more detail.

The one X will.
I just have a funny feeling the s won't, due to it not being popular at all, HTC have a whole bunch of new android phones out and will be releasing even more in the next 1-2 months meaning less time and money to spend on older devices. Plus we have only had like 2 updates since the phone released, where as the X has had around 4-5.
Of course, I could be completely wrong and really hope I am.
Although if the XL gets the update (and am pretty sure it will), then there is absolutely no reason why they can't provide the update to the S as well.....

htc's statement about RUU's

Nice, but I doubt I will change my mind. I'm done, and regardless of their explanations, unless they allow s-off with the HTC dev unlocking. That might make me reconsider. Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry I feel a little slow but are you talking about the nexus 4? And I'm getting quote fed up with HTC myself despite being a huge fan for a while they've been flip flop on their decisions the past year or so. One day they say this and one they say this and sometimes never even follow up on somethings I'm almost done with them

Yep, and mine will be here Friday by 3 pm
So htcruu got shut down due to using "HTC" in domain. Beyond that gets grey.
HTC does not want to say "sure you can host RUU's"
But it is a nudge nudge wink wink "if you didnt use the 'HTC' in the domain we would not have got this far".
It would be great if HTC would just say "yes RUU hosting and leaking is fine", but they wont officially say it, but they have NEVER attacked this before.
Anybody remember this statement:
HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. We have heard your voice and starting now, we will allow our bootloader to be unlocked for 2011 models going forward. We plan on releasing the updates that will allow you to unlock your bootloader in the coming months, please keep an eye on this website for more details on which devices will be adding this feature. We are extremely pleased to see the energy and enthusiasm from our fans and loyal customers, and we are excited to see what you are capable of. HTC eagerly anticipates your innovations.
Personally, I will never touch another HTC product again.
Ehh idk. I see why HTC took down the site. They clearly state its because there logo is used and such. Bit I'm hearing good things from Sony. May be my next device. But I just don't like the look of Sony devices. HTC always has nice build quality. And for the record HTC did allow the evitas boot loader to be unlocked. Att locked it up

I don't use sense.. I don't use LTE.
I prefer aosp camera.
All I'm losing is build quality. Seems like a fair trade to me.

HTC One X to possibly get Sense 5 aka. "New Sense"?

http://www.androidbugle.com/2013/02/htcs-sense-5-or-new-sense-to-make-it-to.html
According to HTC Facebook page.
It'll come when it comes
Interesting! Even if it doesn't come directly, we might be able to port it if the DNA gets it - the first working Sense JB ROM for the One XL was ported from the DNA, if I remember correctly.
We have amazing developers working on our device - I have confidence! :good:
That would be cool if it happens.
And remember, we just need one carrier to push it out to one compatible device (One X, EVO LTE, DNA) in order to get a port. Complaining about AT&T is not necessary here.
i would guess people in xda will port it before the official even rolling.
sounds great http://www.androidauthority.com/htc...terfly-to-get-sense-5-in-a-few-months-163296/
the full quote from the Facebook post is:
HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the next few months, including global variants of HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly. Also, note that some features enabled by the new HTC One hardware will not be available in the software updates.

I think you're absolutely right. Highly doubt an official update will come through normal channels. The Devs here come out with updates on a more reliable and consistent basis than even the best companies out there.

Hard to know for sure, but I'm not sure it matters. Stuff can be ported.

This could be why att has not/will not push jb ota, they could be planning on skipping it and going straight to this

I can state with absolute certainty that this is not the case.
In all likelihood, AT&T will never push out a Sense 5 update to the One X. It would hurt sales of their flagship Sense 5 phones.

I can tell you with some confidence that neither our one x or the quad core one and the one s won't see sense 5 officially... Weather they release kernel source(for our device for sense 5 android 4.2) is a different story and unlikely ..I can maybe see the one x+ getting it and Mayne the droid dna
