I've seen a few people say they are cancelling their HOX preorders and getting the S3 over this whole BL issue. I am just curious if people think it will be a different story with the S3. To me, it seems that AT&T is behind the lock and I assume they would just as quickly lock down the S3. What do you guys think?
I think it'll be just like vivid..it will be unlockable in around month..I hope lol either way I'm keeping mine it's beautiful!

Samsung dosent lock their bootloaders.
Samsung has generally been rather good at unlocking... Or just not properly.securing BL.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification. I have been using my Samsung Captivate which was always easy to do whatever with. I just thought that it came from a different point in Android BL openness history
Would just like to add that the BL lock does suck, but this is by far the best stock experience I have ever had on any mobile device. That also includes iOS.

I agree. HTC has done a bang up job, but dammit I want Stock ICS
I think Samsung has a lot more pull with the carriers too. The Galaxy SIII was the most hyped phone in a long time... I don't think AT&T would just turn down the Galaxy SIII cause Samsung wants the boot loader unlocked.
I doubt SGS3 will be locked. But still Im not mad about HTC's Bootloader lock since it works so well out the box (like the Vivid after ICS) as long as it works well, im happy. Honestly im not in a hurry to root since i wouldnt know what to do except mess around since i dont think i need anything improved as of today (except wifi bug, but htc should fix soon)

My biggest thing is tethering, since I would have to give up my grandfathered unlimited data plan to get it with root.
The only thing I would be looking forward to would be a debloated stock ROM. I am loving this stock experience. Oh and also for occasional wifi tethering.
I actually just bought this phone from the AT&T store today.. switched from a Galaxy S2, rooted with CM7.2.
The stock experience on this phone is.. amazing, to say the least. The display alone is just crazy. It feels like I'm looking at a photo, or one of those stickers on the phones you can't actually mess with in stores.
While it sucks not being able to root + drop a custom ROM on here.. I'm willing to wait until it eventually happens. The out of box experience is head and shoulders above any other Android phone I've used (Nexus One, Galaxy S2, Droid Incredible). If it never gets unlocked.. well, I'll still be happy with my purchase.

There are alot of non-root tethering apps. Koush's works great.
Disclaimer: I have not tried it with the One X yet, but it worked on my old Droid X fine.
This is a prewarning for anyone still nieve enough to accept an ota before its been torn down and examined. The One X, brother device(EVO 4g LTE) recently received an ota that SIGNIFICANTLY improved security on the device. Changes included a new hboot(as seen in the new hox ruu leaked) along with other patches, any EVO that was not previously s OFF can no longer use the s OFF exploit, lazypanda. On top of that, EVO and hox were both able to flash radios and kernals with the unlocked bootloader. The EVO, s on with unlocked bootloader can NO LONGER flash radios or kernals. Recoveries only. I am posting this to make the community aware that this update WILL most likely implement the same security changes that were put on EVO LTE owners.
If you accept the ota, you will likely:
Lose ability to flash kernals, and radios
Lose ability to use a s OFF exploit if it becomes available on the current(non updated) hboot.
Do thank the person bringing the ruu leak to xda for developers to examine and warning us of the soon to come ota. If it weren't for him, it would just show on our devices and a good percentage would accept, clogging our forums with help me threads. Check out the ruu leak thread to thank.

I'm assuming you mean just through recovery. I'm sure you will still be able to flash the boot image(kernel) through fastboot. Just wanted to clarify this and not make everyone think you wouldn't be able to flash kernels at all.

lemme guess.. those exchanges are why phones are getting more expensive too right?
Haha.. those phones just get reflashed and sold as "refurbished" so knock it off OK.. seriously it's just annoying misinformation.
Phones get bricked sometimes.. the giant corporations will be fine.

Not talking about devs, who contribute something to the overall environment (I would never refer to devs as "clowns"). I'm talking about the people who start fooling around with their phones without knowing what they're doing, brick them, then post things like "Will AT&T know what I did if I return this for a warranty replacement?"
And, whether the carriers can afford it (they can) isn't the point. It's that these folks motivate the carriers to make their phones ever more locked down in order to avoid having to deal with these bogus exchanges.
Wait, you got that wrong, reason we are getting more bricked phones is because the security on this device is NEW. Can't figure it out if you don't try, trying consists of trial and error. Well you know the sweetest of the story....
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
For every guy that takes a risk and flashes something that might achieve s off, 10 people have returned their phone because the email doesn't work, or the screen is too yellow, or its too quiet.. or loud. Do you see what I'm sayin?
Normal people don't root.. they just complain. So HTC locking down the phone more isn't preventative measures for tech support or return rates... Its just HTC being sloppy. Next it'll be that source is being delayed because they don't want people to brick their phones lol

Thanks, good looking out. Some people will heed your warnings, others wont. I'm afraid this would be a little harder to overcome than the 1.85 fiasco when everyone updated before there was a root exploit. If HTC is playing with the security like this then that is a little scary to me. Damn i wish i had a little birdy at HTC. Maybe samsung is the future for rooted devices. Maybe google will open Motorola up. HTC is goin backwards

Yeah, it's definitely a concern to me. I wish they would understand and just make it easy to do. The unlock site.could have an optional S-off to go with it. I would think it would be pretty easy for these guys to design a device to be very dev friendly, and also easy to recover if/when things go bad.

I was using my faithful old samsung captivate when one thing led to another and it stopped working on me so i went on the search for new phones. I came across a One X with a cracked screen for 160 and decided to make that purchase. So i would like to know whether or not that is a good deal and how i should start off with this new device.

Ah OK. Next step, root it. Next next step, unlock the bootloader, next next next step, flash aokp. Your done.
Well... You could have HTC replace the screen for 200... That brings the price to $360... Idk, ok deal I guess.

I came from a Samsung Captivate as well, getting a HOX was a great decision IMO, it's really an awesome phone.
As for the root and unlock, here's a compilation of anything you might need, in the development forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Now as far as I know, if your phone is on the new 2.20 firmware, then unless it was already rooted before by the previous owner and with SuperCID, then there are no root methods currently, however the devs are working very hard on it and I'm sure one will be found before too long, hopefully S-OFF too!
If not and it's on 1.85 or earlier, then you're set! Personally in this case I'd reccomend against taking the 2.20 OTA and sticking with 2.20 or 2.23 based custom ROMs if you want the new features (which are pretty nice ), at least until any issues are worked out such as a new root method. No way to officially unlock the bootloader though HTC Dev with the AT&T HOX at the momebt, but can be done.
Enjoy your One X!
I appear to have completely bricked my One X. I've searched high and low to find a thread about this exact problem.
Basically, what is happening is that my One X is stuck on a solid black screen. I have no idea if it's on or off. The LED is not on when I plug it into anything, my PC doesn't recognize it no matter what USB port/cable I use, but it does make the sound like it's connecting. It beeps 3 times rapidly when I connect it, though. Capacitive lights are off.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Would you care to mention what you did to the phone before it stopped working?
I was flashing a custom ROM in TWRP. It said it flashed, and then I clicked reboot, and then it went to black screen and won't do anything from this point on.
This is like pulling teeth! What ROM? Are you messing with the quad core htc one x stuff again?
it was IceColdJelly, I have the Rogers HTC One X, the Evita.

I did lol... Apparently the newest firmware is not supported with the hack kit .. I have to unlock with htcdev, which is shi++y right now, flash an older rom or something like that, then do the hack kit.
No no no, that can't be it. ... Its not that easy.. I have to jump through hoops which I'm too lazy to do at the moment.. Seems like all the devs hauled ass and no one wants to answer questions lol. Im coming off of contract soon, and thinking about getting the HTC M8. I was wondering how you guys feel about it after owing it for sometime, although its still pretty new? Im coming from a Verizon Moto X dev. Edition, how much of a shock ( if any ) will I be in with the HTC m8?
Thanks.
p.s. Im thinking about this or the HTC one MAX... I think that is a different device though.
I love it so far... Had the Moto x dev edition not too long ago as well, but moved back to my Note 2 because I missed the larger screen and external SD card.
Switched to the M8 because of a common technical issue with the Note 2 that I didn't want to put up with anymore. I already know that I didn't make a mistake. This thing is blazing fast and smooth as silk.
Needs full root, though. I need to use my extsd!

Well.. coming from the note 3.
Although, i love the build quality and look/feel it would of been nice to have both tri color led and screen size of the note 3. I lswitched due to the verizon version being locked down. Heres hoping to m8 s-off.

I came from the nexus 5, basically just wanted something different. Love the build quality. Phone is amazingly fast stock. Sense is better than it used to be, still put the GPL launcher on it though. Screen is great, wish it was bigger for the size of the phone, bezels are way to big. Camera is decent but not that great. Battery seems good, can easily get through a day with somewhat heavy use.
Any other specific questions just ask.
I find it kind of funny that they release a phone with KitKat and an external SD probably knowing that there was an incompatibility and wouldn't function 100% properly. I have to now install root, xposed, and a module just for R/W access to my ExtSD. Also, with Xposed sometimes have to hard reboot and re-enable Xposed since it makes WiFi wonky.
There is no sOff on this phone?

The top and bottom bezels are maybe a little large (but the speakers are housed under them, so it's understandable), but the side bezels are pretty small. In fact, without a case, they're maybe TOO small. When I hold it one-handed and try to reach for something with my thumb, the skin of my hand frequently hits something on the right-side of the screen accidentally.

This is just a super fantastic phone. I'd recommend it to anyone that's in the market for a new phone. And now the we have ViperOne...it just puts it over the top. :good:
I love this phone. I prefer it OVER my wifes S5.
My ONLY regret on about getting this phone..... is me renewing my contract and getting rid of the Grandfathered Unlimited that I loved.
I am in love with the phone it's truly amazing how htc made it.
