I have a rooted LG Optimus G, from AT&T. So the E970, in other words. My girlfriend has a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I love her messaging app, and the stock Mail app (the same one that I would have on my Nexus 7). Now, since my phone is 4.0.4, I went and found the 4.0.4 system dump for the Galaxy Nexus. Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to move the messaging and mail apps (and any others in general, really) over to my phone? I've come as far as downloading the system dump in a zip, and extracting the .apk and .odex files from the .zip file into my system/app folder. What do I do from here?

hi guys
i have installed the modifed Gmail.apk found here on the forum modified for showing all images from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847035 and it's not working for me, it always shows ONLY 5 images in preview, the same that happens with the "stock" android market gmail; i have a lg optimus one, modified kernel, firmware 10A for starters.
i tried to adb push the new file to the phone, nothing changes, then i deleted the modified file from the phone and reinstalled the original one from market, and i couldn't find gmail.apk in system/app anymore but now it works so do i have a ghost on the phone????
finally, what if i want to save all attachments at once like you can do via web when you connect with your desktop computer?? isn't it possible to save all images at once, they guessed you'd never do that on your phone?
to be honest, i dont understand why the apps on the android are not more user friendly. im all for hacking and mods but this seems to be too much, every time to mod things, hack etc etc...
thanks

Is the Sprint App Updater apk for the Shift the same one for the Evo? if not, can someone give me a copy of the .apk file and/or odex. I got a little delete-happy on root explorer. and now my notifications bar is showing that I have an mandatory update available for the VVM that I cant get because im missing the sprint updater.
here is the apk (no odex I could find) pulled from one of the original system dumps posted here early on...
Hello everyone, I hope I have posted in the right section, I have to ask you a question that despite several hours of trial and research remains to me: I was going to download the firmware official google nexus 7 and take the apk that interest me, and install them on our tablet 7plus.
I downloaded the version both deodexed and odexed of the google nexus 7 and I extracted, for example, the contacts.apk DEODEXED from it.Installing the apk android ics stock tells me: error with the analysis of the packet. I also tested with version odexed putting the apk file and the odex file into the folder system / apps but also restarting did not work ...
1) it's possible what I want and for example it's possible to install another launcher (ex. launcher.apk stolen from google nexus 7 stock deodexed) like a normal apk and use it just pressing home button and selecting it instead of touchwiz launcher?
2) if yes can you explain me the procedure?
3) do you know where I can find the backgrounds stock once downloaded any ROM (which gives me the compacted system folder plus other img etc etc?
Thank you in advance .... sorry for my english, i hope you have understood my intention : I'm going to replace the application of our contacts and launcher tab with those of the google nexus 7
See you soon, Andrea

I don't think you can just copy over a system apk from one device to another without porting it which I cannot help you with. Same thing goes for the launchers they too would need to be ported over. You could try and use something like apkManager to decompile the app then make the necessary changes to it, i.e. resolution, device name, etc, etc,. then compile it. I have no experience doing this with apps and you might find some help by digging around in the main android development forum, not the one for this device the main one.

I know this has been asked before, but it hasn't been asked too clearly, at least to me. I'm using CM 10.1 on a Tmobile Galaxy S3, and I want to install a few of the Samsung apps like the Accuweather widget, sMemo, etc. I have all the apps in a backup folder, and they all have two files; a .apk file, and a .odex file. Can I just install them (.apk) like normal apps, or do I need to do something special with the .odex file, or can you even run them on a custom rom? I just really like a few of the stock features and would prefer to have them, but not at the cost of giving up CM 10.1 just to use them.
The stock apps need kinda stock environment to work with. So most of the stock apps don't work properly on a custom ROM.
That shouldn't prevent you from giving it a try.
You shouldn't be installing it as a normal app, but you should push the apk to system/app with right permissions (rw-r--r--) and reboot.
See if that works. Try with and without the odex file.
Look at this thread on how to set permissions.
A search would have told you that you can't run OEM apps in an AOSP based rom

You need the framework that samsung adds. Using a rom based off the original will do it for you.
how do I replace my actual system/app folder for a backup safely?
I want to make sure things won't go like this again, also sorry for the wall of text beforehand
My phone is the LG Optimus G AT&T and I'm using the stock 4.1.2 rom
I tried to install a status bar for a stock based ROM and a lock icon removal on my stock rom but it didn't work as expected. It messed up some things and the systemui kept notifying me that it stopped working every few seconds. The zip files I flashed supposedly installed a few files inside said folder but I'm not sure which files nor if it edited other files so I want to replace it completely to not have any problem. thing is, I'm not sure of how to proceed here, do I just wipe it with an explorer and then paste the back up there, or will that break my phone again? do I push the backup with adb command prompt after deleting the folder? Is there another option?
I'm not sure if this info is helpful at all but I thought you guys might need to take it into account, just in case
I'm also not sure of which category is the right one, since it's my first post in this forum, though I've been lurking around for quite a while
I tweaked the system apps a bit before screwing up, and deleted the AT&T bloatware that nobody uses, also replaced the stock launcher with nova as a system app. having only 1 launcher caused a huge mess after trying to fix things by replacing the contents the folder with a copy of the backed apps.
First I replaced all 4 files with the name "systemui.apk/odex" and "LGsystemui.apk/odex". then I tried to replace the whole folder by moving things and I accidentally checked the "apply this action for all files" option (or something along those lines) while overwriting them, which probably caused nova launcher to stop working and rebooted my phone automatically. then I spent 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong with the phone because I couldn't do anything, just open the settings through the status bar and it turned out I had to reinstall nova launcher outside system by sending the apk to myself through email to not get in that mess again, and now I'm here, a little desperate to know what can I do to not screw my phone up.
Thank you
