install apk extracted from other stock firmware or roms deodexed - help - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hello everyone, I hope I have posted in the right section, I have to ask you a question that despite several hours of trial and research remains to me: I was going to download the firmware official google nexus 7 and take the apk that interest me, and install them on our tablet 7plus.
I downloaded the version both deodexed and odexed of the google nexus 7 and I extracted, for example, the contacts.apk DEODEXED from it.Installing the apk android ics stock tells me: error with the analysis of the packet. I also tested with version odexed putting the apk file and the odex file into the folder system / apps but also restarting did not work ...
1) it's possible what I want and for example it's possible to install another launcher (ex. launcher.apk stolen from google nexus 7 stock deodexed) like a normal apk and use it just pressing home button and selecting it instead of touchwiz launcher?
2) if yes can you explain me the procedure?
3) do you know where I can find the backgrounds stock once downloaded any ROM (which gives me the compacted system folder plus other img etc etc?
Thank you in advance .... sorry for my english, i hope you have understood my intention : I'm going to replace the application of our contacts and launcher tab with those of the google nexus 7
See you soon, Andrea

I don't think you can just copy over a system apk from one device to another without porting it which I cannot help you with. Same thing goes for the launchers they too would need to be ported over. You could try and use something like apkManager to decompile the app then make the necessary changes to it, i.e. resolution, device name, etc, etc,. then compile it. I have no experience doing this with apps and you might find some help by digging around in the main android development forum, not the one for this device the main one.

[Q] Question(s) about theming...

Hi!
Today I've found a great guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916814) on how to theme Android and so I want to start theming and then I found some themes for the Transformer. I just have a little question: where do I get the stock-Honeycomb-theme from? It should be a *.zip, but with Root Explorer I can only see framework-res.apk and lots of *.jar-files (I'm running gnufabio's Revolver-ROM).
(why should it be a *.zip-file? Stood there:https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AcdxIJRSH9ypZGZzc2pxNDlfMjdnazk4OHNxZA&hl=en
3. Open the .zip and inside are typically 3 files, framework, system or app, and META-INF. Leave META-INF alone, you won’t be touching that, this area tells the phone where to install the folders. Inside framework and system/app is where the files are that you can change. In this case we will open the .zip, then double click framework and then double click framework-res.apk (this is where the next archive will open inside the same window, your life just got a little easier).

)
Please could anyone share the stock-Honeycomb-theme from any stock-ROM (or any other fitting unmodified version)?
Hope that you can help me and I'd really be happy about it.
Thanks in advance,
LB

There is no "stock theme" take the files you need from the stock rom. SystemUI, framework and resources
Sent from my TBolt using my f***king thumbs...
Yeah, you would have to get the stock files (framework-res.apk, SystemUI.apk etc) from any stock ROM... or I would suggest getting the framework from the same version of Revolver you are on (make sure you get the modded version of the framework which can be downloaded from Revolver Parts). If you try to install the stock framework on Revolver it could cause problems because Gnufabio modded his framework.
What it seems like you are trying to do is look on your tablet for a theme.zip... you won't find one... A theme in a .zip is extracted when it is installed and the .apks (and .jars etc.) are put here and there on the system.
If you want a theme in a .zip you will have to look on the forums and find one that works for your ROM. You can then edit that theme to your liking if you have the know-how.
I don't wish to sound cruel here, but I would suggest waiting and reading up on theming and Android in general a little more first. You can cause issues (possible boot-loops/bricking) if you don't have the correct files in the correct places.
If you still wish to test out theming (and I think it is great that you have an interest) please do a backup in Clockwork first.
Thanks a lot, you are right. I'll read some threads about theming (there are some good threads here on XDA ) and then start.
Themes for the transformer are still few and far between, I don't mind really since I am pretty familiar with android from my days with my old G1.

[Q] S Note fullscreen trouble

Hi guys!
Do I am the only one who's angry about the update 4.1.2? After I've updated my device (N8010) the S Note App doesn't have the fullscreen button!
So i'm not able to hide the bars on the top and the bottom. After hours of trying to extract the S Note from the previous firmware and replace the S Note application in the current firmware without any succsess i decided to write you, hoping there is someone who can help me.
Is there someone who can tell me how to get the "old" S Note app into the 4.1.2 firmware?
Is there someone who can tell me how to get the "old" S Note app into the 4.1.2 firmware?
Search the app has been posted .
probably in Apps .

The new S- Note is great in that it allows you to Zoom, without having to re enable touch access mode.
But the trade off appears to be terrible palm detection.
It will keep misinterpreting the palm resting on the screen as an attempt to zoom.
There's really no need for full screen anymore. The old version of S-Note needed fullscreen because the toolbars at the top and bottom would actually obscure part of the page. The update lets you scroll all the way to the top without the toolbars obscuring available space.
I like it.
But your still missing out on a lot of writing space because of the toolbar buttons Staying there even when you don't need them .

Wouldn't be there need for full screen, there wouldn't be so many people around the world searching for it! Except this, your answer isn't helpfully. If you are okey with loosing about 30% (!) of wrtitingspace because of the bars ate the top and the bottom it's your choice, but me and a lot of other users around the world aren't!
here is where you can get the old SNote APK

Thaks a lot!
The next question is, how to get it run?! I mean fact is, that it doesn't work if i just install the apk like another, because it has to be a system-app. Anyone an idea?¨
I would assume you would do it through root explorer or flash from recovery to your system/app folder
Sent from my GT-N8010 using xda app-developers app
Hi Guys,
I found this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925720
here you can get all the firmwares deodexed and i think this may be the best way to solve our problem.
thank you very much klau1 for the link to the "old" SNote.apk's but the question ist: Are they deodexed? If not, i think it woulden't run.
My idea is the following:
download the deodexed version of the firmware you like
install CWM, if you don't have it
unpack the Zip-file of the deodexed firmware, go to system/app delete de Snote.apk
put the "old" SNote.apk into the system/app folder
repack the edited zip-folder
copy it to your n8010
reboot into the recovery-mode, install the zip
The problems i have are the following:
1. what about the lib-file in the system/lib folder? (i looks like, that it essentialy to run SNote.apk)
2. where to get the "old" lib-file?
3. how do i repack the zip-folder? ( i tried to zip it with 7-Zip as usually but it doesn't work to install on CWM)

You do not extract the rom but open it and delete apps add or modify then close and flash .
My suggestion would be to download a custom rom with the relevant SNote extract what you want and exchange them for the same files in a JB rom .
jje
Thank you very much!
I'll try it and give feedback.
Edit: It doesn't work! After Intsalling the Zip-File, there is a popup which says: "S Note angehalten" (S Note stopped)
Anyone an idea?!

[Q] Question about stock Samsung apps after custom mod

I know this has been asked before, but it hasn't been asked too clearly, at least to me. I'm using CM 10.1 on a Tmobile Galaxy S3, and I want to install a few of the Samsung apps like the Accuweather widget, sMemo, etc. I have all the apps in a backup folder, and they all have two files; a .apk file, and a .odex file. Can I just install them (.apk) like normal apps, or do I need to do something special with the .odex file, or can you even run them on a custom rom? I just really like a few of the stock features and would prefer to have them, but not at the cost of giving up CM 10.1 just to use them.
The stock apps need kinda stock environment to work with. So most of the stock apps don't work properly on a custom ROM.
That shouldn't prevent you from giving it a try.
You shouldn't be installing it as a normal app, but you should push the apk to system/app with right permissions (rw-r--r--) and reboot.
See if that works. Try with and without the odex file.
Look at this thread on how to set permissions.
A search would have told you that you can't run OEM apps in an AOSP based rom
Wayne Tech S-III
You need the framework that samsung adds. Using a rom based off the original will do it for you.

[Q] Transferring stock apps

Summary: How can I transfer apps from the stock rom (that are stored as.apk and .odex pairs) to my current rom?
Full Story: The stock rom (Gingerbread) for the Samsung YP-G70 has a working fm radio app that I'd like to use with my current rom (CM 10.2). I saved the .apk and .odex files from a stock install to my sd card.
Is this even possible?
If anybody's managed to do it, what're the steps? (the default apps are stored as .apk with a .odex file and xultimate can't seem to handle the files (get "top level error" about missing files and such))

Already tried that. All the results I'm seeing involve a third party app backup tool (which I've already tried without success), or don't address the mixed apk & odex issue.
no it wont
it wont work as it is odexed .... try deodexing the apk but still i would say it wont work but still u try...

Install duplicated apps ver without overwrite

I have a question here , is there any way to Installing duplicated apps ver without overwrite each other ?
Eg : firefox verion 21 smooth and fast but version 24 provide more features. Hoping to install both each other if I needed some features.
Currently the only option is , backup data 22 and 24 with titanium bk and restore it when I need the features.
Possible to install alongside without overwrite ? needed to modified the .apk ? I was hoping to retain the original apk.
It's just like you installing Office 2007 and 2010 alongside in the same window.
Thank you

By modifying the package name of any of the .apk file, I think you should be able to install both versions.. because while installing an App, Android will compare the .apk's package name with the .apks already installed before... The point of modifying the .apk file is to make sure that Android sees it as a completely different app, and not think of one as an update to the other...

The linked having various discussion but non of them are working
I had google around and the only way is to have different profile https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme&hl=en
Which is very risky getting boot looping.
The safest method is to modified the .xml but I am not an android dev.I doesn't know how to modified it.
Does anyone know any tools which can modified .apk to custom version. ?
Thank you

For modifying .apk files you need to Download and Setup a small tool called APKTOOL (for Windows)
Below is the link to the GUI version of apktool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33815550
The original version of apktool works with Windows' Command Promt's command line interface... If you want that instead, then Google "apktool for windows" or anything similar
After decompiling, I think you need to edit your AndroidManifest.xml file BUT I am not sure about this.. please Google "how to change application package name android"
