When using a custom rom, you can't use Kies. My suggestions are for backup Titanium Backup and for PC connection Airdroid.
Do you have USB debugging on?
Have you tried download mode?

I have the same problem with my S3 non rooted device.
When i bought the phone i instantly updated it to the official rom update by Samsung that is 4.1.2 & now wen i connect thru Kies the legendary message appears known to all of u !
Where as wen i connect, Grand Duos, S Duos or S2 it says the latest firmware already installed, that clearly states that there is no update came yet for the device, then y an error message for S3 ?
Is it because of i updated it thru Phone Software Update option, so now Kies not recognizing the device ?
What could be done to get it back to normal stock rom and then update it with Kies ?
Help ! Reference Screens are attached ! Plz Review

I think you should jump out of your comfort zone and reinstall the stock rom using one of the methods described in the forums. There may be something that went wrong with your update. After the reinstallation, consider a resintallation of Kies as well.

Hello everyone. I'm extremely new to this and need some help on the subject.
Recently I got a Galaxy S III Mini GT-I8190L and tried rooting it. The problem was I tried doing it with a GT-I8190 root. Fortunately it didn't go very far with Odin. Once it gave me the "Fail" notification I unplugged it and the phone restarted by itself. It said that it was performing 3 updates and started working normally. My issue is that now I can't download any firmware updates (Kies tells me the software is not supported and can´t initialize, where as WIFI update tells me the device has been modified), and doesn´t auto-rotate unless an app requires it. I even downloaded Root Checker from Google Play and all it tells me it has "improper root".
Recently the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean UBAMC1 Firmware has been released, so I was wondering if by installing this update I could solve my problem?
Have as much patience as you can with me and please be as descriptive with your answer as you can. As I told you I´m very new and can get lost pretty easily. :silly:
Thank you for your help!

I can't update using the normal options, going into the settings, about phone ect..
What I want to know is: Can I use Samsung Kies to update this phone? Or am I stuck on the
older OS?

Try using Kies. If that doesn't show up any update, try flashing a new ROM.

Hello. A few days ago I 've tried to flash a samsung galaxy note 3 with odin because the phone wouldn't boot to android anymore. I downloaded the stock rom for the specific model from sammobile and tried to flash it twice and the process was finished successfully. The problem is that not only the smartphone had theexact same problem but i coul see that nothing was erased. ihad changed the name on the internal memory and even that remained the same. i could see it from my pc. i also noticed the same problem with a samsung galaxy s5 that worked but it's speaker didn't play any sound. i had changed the speaker before flashing it but no luck. It wasn't the speakers fault. All the users files, contacts and settings remained unharmed after three completed flashing processes. I have read from the internet that this problem exists because of the knox security that samsung installed on it's smartphones.
So my question is if there is a way to completely wipe of the rom memory before installing it the firmware from the beginning when i flas a new model of samsung smartphones?

Greetings and welcome to assist. If you want to return your phone to factory condition the easiest way is to use kies/smartswitch emergency firmware recovery
Good Luck

The firmware that you are trying to flash is giving you the sw rev error because that firmware is an older/downgraded version than the version that is already on the phone. You have to flash the firmware that is the same as what is already on the device or a newer version, you can't flash an older version. Find the newest, most updated firmware that you can find for your specific model number.
Do a Google search for:
"Stock firmware for SM-G935FD"
Then find the newest available version that is made for your specific region/carrier.
