[Q] Having a lot of problems after rooting... - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hi,
I'm having a lot of problems after rooting my device.
I can get into the Bootloader and Recovery, so I'm certain it's not bricked.
Here is my screen in bootloader:
*** UNLOCKED ***
DOUBLESHOT PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1. 45 .0013
MICROP-0353
eMMC-boot
Nov 21 2011.20:20:47
Now, when I load fastboot and connect it to the USB, it says "fastboot usb" but "adb devices" doesn't show it in the list.
I had it working when I booted it into CM10, but I needed to get it to s-off in order to SIM unlock it, but "adb devices" would NOT pick it up, in bootloader OR CM10.1 (Yes I checked all settings from within CM10, allowing debugging and root etc).
I then decided to pay $14.99 for an unlock code to save the hassle of going through the s-off problems as I couldn't detect it using revolution or adb. Turns out only stock rom will allow SIM Unlock so I tried to flash a stock rom, several different ones now and for some reason it didn't get past the splash screen on any of them. So I tried flashing PD59IMG.zip which looked like it worked, but then: Splash screen.
I'm now completely stuck. Please help.

Use "Fastboot Devices" when in fastboot and see if it recognizes it then. Also from your hboot it looks like you have a mytouch 4g slide instead of a mytouch 4g. If you are unlocked but have s-on you have to flash the kernal before flashing the rom. Its frustrating but pretty easy if you follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556

Please go to the mytouch 4g slide forums, you have a doubleshot, these are the glacier forums.

So did you install CWR already, or are you still on stock recovery? Reinstalling drivers for your phone sounds like what might help out.

He needs to use fastboot commands while in fastboot mode like 'fastboot devices' adb commands don't work while in fastboot

You need the proper drivers installed for the device in fastboot mode also. They are each their own device, you would need to install the proper drivers for the phone in both adb and fastboot modes. I did this a few days ago when setting up the phone and Android SDK on Windows 8 and I had to install the HTC driver for them separately.

[Q] [HELP] Another soft-bricked AT&T HTC One X

So my son rooted his AT&T HTC One X (Evita) and put AOKP 10.something (doesn't remember) but never got 4G data to work. He lived with it that way for a while because WiFi works and he has plenty of access at college. But recently he got fed up and wanted to go back to his stock rom to get 4G working again. He doesn't remember exactly what he did but he recalls going into recovery, wiping the cache, then updating TWRP to 2.5. That's when things went wrong. We get:
HTC
quietly brilliant
This build is for development purposes only...
It sits this way for a few minutes then the screen goes blank, but it appears the phone is still on because, when plugged-in to the USB port on my PC I don't get the alert sound that USB has disconnected. Then it reboots. Does this over and over.
I can get into the bootloader by holding-down power and volume-down.
Bootloader tells me:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***

I can also get into TWRP, but can't find any ROMS to install.
I've rooted a few of my androids and can follow instructions, but I'm not real familiar with all the tools and acronyms. Also, I have zero experience with the HTC One X. If there's a newb's guide for unbricking the Evita please point me in the right direction. Otherwise, please be gentle with me and I'll try not to make an ass of myself. ;^)
So far I've downloaded HTC Sync and Minimal ADB/Fastboot. The phone is plugged-in and charging. So I plan to pick up on this tomorrow night. If I understand things:
Install the drivers
Connect the phone
Pray that it is still in USB Debugging mode
Verify ADB detects the phone
Use ADB to push my choice of ROMs to the root of the sdcard internal storage device
Go into TWRP
Wipe the entire phone including system
Install the ROM
Wave dead chicken over head while singing the theme song from Evita
Reboot when done
Is that right?
Or should I use flashboot (never have before)?
Does "*** UNLOCKED ***" on the bootloader screen mean the bootloader is unlocked (as opposed to carrier unlock)?
Should I update TWRP to 2.6 first? If so, can I just push with ADB and Install with TWRP 2.5??
Do I need to S-OFF to flash TWRP or ROM? If so, how?
What the heck is an RUU file and do I need one?
And finally for tonight, while I know there's no such thing as the "best" ROM, which ROMs should I look at if my priorities are stability, functionality and battery life (most to least important)? I tend to put a ROM on my phone and not change for months, even years.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Adb won't work because that requires the ROM to be booted into an os. You don't need it yet anyhow. You will need fastboot though. You'll want to get rid of TWRP 2.5 because it's full of bugs. Here's how to install TWRP 2.6:
Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone. Select mount from the menu, then mount usb storage while connected to a pc, it will now show up as a removable drive so you can copy a ROM to the device. For stability, stock ROMs are the best option, you'll find those here.
One you've downloaded a ROM, you need to extract the boot.img from the root of the zip and place it in your fastboot folder on your pc, we'll come back to that later. Now copy your entire ROM zip onto the phone. Enter recovery, do a full wipe (cache/dalvik cache/factory reset/system), go to install menu, install ROM.
Now, reboot to bootloader, connect to pc, make sure it shows fastboot usb on the screen. You now need to flash the boot.img because the phone is s-on. Do that by entering this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now you should be able to reboot the phone into the ROM.

Thanks both Ken and Timaaa. You guys rock.
I'm leaning towards giving utkaar099's Stock/Deodexed JB 4.1.1 ROM and the HTC ATT 3.18 radio a try. I haven't figured S-OFF yet but once I get the ROM on and working I'm sure I'll figure it out.
I wanted to say thanks again for the help. The phone is now running again with the stock/deodexed JB 4.1.1.
I haven't tried flashing a radio file yet. I'm unclear if I have to S-OFF before flashing the radio. Still reading, but if you have a chance to answer this question I'd appreciate it.
S-off isn't required for flashing radios, you can just flash them in recovery. Just make sure you don't flash radio+RIL, or the cm radios, and you'll be fine.

since you are on S-ON you have to flash the boot.img of the rom via fastboot command
or flash 4ext recovery and enable smartflash from it before flashing the rom
as you understand in any case you need sdk tools(adb and fastboot) on your pc

What about those of us that have no USB connectivity, meaning when USB cable is connected, you get no "Fastboot USB" on the bootloader screen?
I'm S-on, so flashing recoveries from the SD card isn't possible.
Try this...

Try following method 2 in this guide( through updating via PG58IMG.zip file) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599816. Be carefule about the md5 checksum of the recovery image. Double check before flashing!!
After this, boot into recovery(from the bootloader menu, select appropriate superuser.zip file(for rooting, search xda ...there are many options) and flash root. You now have a custom recovery and are rooted. Now you can flash any custom rom.
All the above assuming you can somehow transfer files to your SD card through a card reader or any other means...
NOTE: Delete the PG58IMG.zip after flashing recovery.

Still won't work. I have tried flashing stock firmwares, stock and non-stock recoveries, reflashing root.zip, restore from known good backups, nothing has worked. Phone is stuck at first HTC logo screen and will go no further, and with no USB connectivity, it's impossible for me to flash even PG58IMGs' because the phone is S-on.
Maybe this could work for you...just a suggestion

Ok, from your reply i gather that even though you transferred the PG581MG to your SD card, the phone did not update when your got to the bootloader menu. I do not think being S-ON will prevent you from installing from the zip file...but maybe i am wrong. Hey now all i can think is this:
Turn off your phone, remove the battery, wait for some time(~10seconds), then put the battery back in. Now press Power +Vol down switch together. Now at the boot loader menu select Fastboot and press Power button. Connect your phone to your PC now and wait. The check if the next screen shows 'FASTBOOT USB'.
If you get 'FASTBOOT USB' in the next screen, then you have multiple options, but for you i would suggest that you download the latest RUU for the phone depending on your region and cid. Then run the ruu while the device is still in FASTBOOT USB mode. This will restore your phone's firmware recovery and rom back to stock.
But if your phone does not show fastboot usb then i'm stumped dude...maybe the experts here in our sensation community will be able to help out....
All the best ...and report if anything improves...

Of course. the img is either very well hidden or not available from the website :-/
Never mind. I found once elsewhere except...
I can't use fastboot or adb as the phone is not being recognised using usb.
Phone constantly rebooting so get the usb connected, then disconnected dings but won't stay awake long enough to lock in.
If I load the bootloader first than try I get all sorts of device not found errors.
"adb > devices" reveals nothing
"adb reboot-bootloader" = "error device not found"
etc.
(BTW all these work on my HTC One so it's more likely my Sensation that's not set up right here. In fact my Sensation used to work via USB, now it doesn't)

Use volume down and power to boot into hboot, from hboot use the volume buttons to select fastboot and use power to select it. Connect the device to the computer via USB and wait for drivers to install if necessary. Then you can use the fastboot commands to flash the recovery.img use
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Where recovery.img is the name of the .IMG you have downloaded and placed into your fastboot path.

remove old htc drivers and htc sync too, download and install these latest drivers ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217396 ) , then try connect fastboot again . If nothing happens tell us.

Okay thanks for that! I got TWRP 2.6.1.0 installed (anything higher would cause a reboot loop) and have Internal SDcard mounted in recovery mode. Where do I go from here? I'm just looking to go back to a stock device (no more hassles)

file is in C:adb along with:
adb.exe
adbwinapi.dll
adbwinusbapi.dll
fastboot
fastboot.exe
additional info:
the unlock file is only 1kb is this normal?
"adb devices" shows no devices but fastboot works don't know why
any of the above causing the problem?
I assume you're simply trying to unlock the bootloader? Could you post more details please about your device, e.g. manufacturer, exact model, then I'll be able to help you. Also can you show me what guide you're following and exactly what you're trying to accomplish?
(I'm assuming you're missing drivers which is why I'm asking you for this info).

It's a HTC ONE S that I got and since I hadn't used android b4 I instead of doing a system update I updated some kind of CID that was on the phone which locked the phone in to "this build is for developers only..."
trying to bring it back to stock installing an RUU failed for some reason(the RUU being the one already in use since the phone is S-ON)
fastboot and adb drivers are installed, I can find my device in fastboot but not adb. enabling USB debugging should fix this but I can't enter the phone while it's looping and I've found no way of enabling it via cmd
this is what the phone shows while in boot:
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.15.0000
RADIO-1.11.50.05.28 (RUU_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.8_Radio_1. 11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_301814_signed_2_4 is the RUU I tried running)
OpenDPS-v31.1.0.45.0815
eMMC-boot
Dec 14 2012. 17:10:57:-1
and correct I'm trying to unlock bootloader through htcdev then repeating the process and locking the loader, running the RUU again... if this doesn't work I guess I can go S-OFF (but then I need USB debugging) and picking any RUU see if that works
and prior to getting this phone I had never touched an android so I have 0 experience
I have downloaded the SDK and htc sync
tried following these guides:
http://androidforums.com/one-s-all-things-root/691874-guide-how-run-ruu-your-htc-one-s.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315947
and this is my original asking thread trying to get my phone back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/help/help-purchased-dev-phone-accidently-t2813586
I am retarded
since I got this phone second hand I didn't know what had been done with it other than what I installed to cause my problems...
one of the things that had been done previously was unlocking bootloader.. hence the very obvious "Unlocked" in the boot menu.... sooo unlocking an unlocked bootloader was kinda redundant
tried oem locking the boot b4 but missed to specify where the files where (C:adb), lock worked and RUU installed without a hing!
thanks for your help!
