I am on a family plan and my mother-in-law took my wife's upgrade because she broke her phone (even though she had insurance... wtf), so now I have a new phone and so does her mom and she has a ****ty samsung eternity and cant upgrade officially until next september at the earliest.
my wife does have insurance on her line, and I checked at&t's website, they no longer sell the eternity model.
Does anyone know what would happen if my wife's phone "broke" and I created a claim? do they have a stockpile of old phones or do you think they would allow her to pick a different one, probably from the free w/contract pile?
first time poster here, thanks for any input!
I just got my Captivate from AT&T in December, and I am pretty much unsatisfied with it. I was wondering if any of you here got an early upgrade to an Inspire 4G for just the $99 and $18 activation? No early upgrade fee's? Thank you!
I did. I complained and they gave me a full early upgrade and waived the activation fee. Not only that but they had a $50 off deal going on so I walked out with mine paying $53
Over the phone or AT&T store?
I complained and they said they set up the upgrade for me, I went to the store on release day and it was a clusterfarq. So a few hours later I had my phone. Then a customer service rep called me from corpo and I complained again and got a $20 credit on my account
Good luck
I went to the AT&T Store, and the guys there were very unhelpful. They just turned me down saying "we can't do anything about it."
What exactly did you say?
I received an early upgrade but I was exactly 22 days away from my official upgrade date, which was March 8. I contacted customer service on the phone and threatened them with Big Red and HTC Thunderbolt ( Verizon ) because I have 4 lines and all on recently renewed contract and they put in "special instructions" into the system for when I went to an AT&T Store.
The employee checked and I was eligible . HTC Inspire was mine for 105$

But you were 22 days away. I am 2 years away, just got the captivate recently.
I was wondering if it's possible to early upgrade now like I read some people did.
I got upgraded for no fee today. I don't know if it helped that I knew the assistant manager. Just a coincidence I went to high school with the guy. Such a big difference in this phone compared to my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It is worth the try to get an early upgrade!

Can he help me?? AT&T screwed me. They said the cheapest I can get it is $470 early upgrade, and he would take $200 from the bill. Still very high... I am pissed off. I threatened to change to Verizon, but nothing. Even higher level support didn't have the "authority" to change the prices for loyal customers for the past 7 or so years. SMH.

How would it be $470? The non-commitment pricing of this phone is 399.99 the most you would pay even in California where the tax is applied to the full retail value of the phone would be $435.
Sell the Captivate. Get $200 for it. Then buy the phone for the early upgrade price of $299.99. Still only pay $99 for it.

No offence but you kept it past it's 30 day return policy. It's not AT&T's fault that you suddenly want a new phone a few months later. If you really want it, dish out the $399. That's not too bad.
It's like buying a new car and a few months later deciding on you wanted a Honda instead of a Ford.
We all make choices in life. You made one....now live with it.
Att can not do upgrades over the phone if you are not within 4 months of upgrading. You can't do it in store unless you are so many days from upgrading. Nothing they can do about it.

I talked with AT&T about this as well. I got my refurbed Captivate in October. To qualify for for the exception upgrade, you need to wait 6 months. For me that is April around my birthday. They told me the cost to get the phone them would be whatever the 2 year contract price is for the phone plus $100.00. I have had this confirmed multiple times. I am hoping with the Atrix coming out and other potential offering with FFC and dual processors, that the two year price for the Captivate will plummet and I can get it cheaper as those other things do not matter to me.

Actually that is incorrect. Early upgrade on a Data device is 2 yr pricing plus $200.
Non smart phones it's 2 yr pricing plus $75.
I am sorry they gave your wrong information.
So basically you guys are saying I'm screwed. Yeah, was afraid of that. Hope someone wants to trade an Inspire for my Captivate. Maybe convince someone who isn't a techy at school. Haha.
Wow, sooooo many diff experiences. I purchased my Captivate and renewed my contract in August. I went to the At&t store on launch day perpared to pay $399 for it as we have a Corp. account. The rep told me if he would give me an early upgrade by starting my contract from that day. By doing this I was able to get it for $299 which was fine by me. 6 months for a $100 sounded like a deal to me. He said I would be eligible for upgrade again in 20 months and kept my unlimited data. Honestly, one of better experiences I had with them in the past 7 years.
I still think you should sell the cap on the market here for about $200(or more) take the $200 off and end up paying $70~ out of pocket... In my opinion the inspire is well worth it.

They sell on eBay for around $300. Maybe I should try there...
Just thought I'd pop in here and share my experience with switching from the Captivate to the Inspire.
I have only been an AT&T customer since August 2010. I have a couple of calls to ATT Customer service in my record where they documented my unhappiness with the GPS and lack of Froyo updates. When @samsungjohn came to the Captivate portal and stirred the pot with Samsung's PR stunt I had finally had enough I called 611 again and was polite, and nicely explained to the CSR my complaints with the Captivate. I asked if there was ANYTHING that they could do to move me into another phone, I never mentioned wanting to cancel my account or raised my voice in any way. The CSR told me that he understood my frustration and he had heard similar complaints before.
He was able to put a $150 dollar credit on my account and I was able to sell my Captivate for $200 so I walked out of a Corporate AT&T store with my Inspire at a net cost of $50 to me.
Maybe I got lucky, or maybe AT&T is hearing from a LOT of people like me and is losing customers, I don't know.
Just thought I'd share.

And maybe the highlighted part was the real reason. At any rate, congrats on the early upgrade. I'm lovin this device more and more.
I was doing some research and was wondering what insurance everyone else is using. What is the best insurance company to g with and why?
I also was wondering does the Samsung galaxy S3 have a 1 year warranty like the iPhone?

I think almost all phones have a standard 1 year warranty. For insurance, i have Asurion through Verizon. However, there are others such as Squaretrade.
Anyone know how Asurion and Squaretrade insurance compares to Best Buy's insurance? I bought my GS3 at BB.
I am wondering also. Best buy told me they changed their warranty policy and do not try to fix the phone anymore, they just replace it.... I wonder if they lied?
I bought my phobe from ebay... Can i still insure it???

Asurion is more expensive than squartrade but asurion offers lost or stolen correct? can you insure with BB if you didnt buy it there?

Best Buy changed that a long time ago. I had the service plan on them with my old evo and I brought it in witha problem 4 or 5 times. I dropped it off, paid a $50 deposit and 2 or 3 days later I would get a basically new phone from them, drop off the loaner phone and get my deposit back. It's pricy ($10/mo) but it covers water damage, physical damage, defects and just about anything else. I just bought my GS3 there yesterday and got the service plan again and it's still the same coverage but they added a thing where if you trade in that phone when you are done with it you get $50 back on top of the trade in price. Pretty damned good deal if you ask me.

They said they would insure any new phone thats less than 30 days old. even if you didnt buy it there.
I use the best buy insurance. 10 a month on the 2 s3s and a g nex. If you get the full coverage and have an extra phone you can use you won't have to pay for a loaner phone. Also no deductible. Assurion is complete joke. 100 dollar deductibles and you will only get 2, YES 2 phones. I did this with my htc thunderbolt and received a letter in the mail from them stating that my insurance is dropped because I reached the 2 phone limit.
Insurance? What's that? I've never carried it lol.

For better or worse, it seems that Verizon treats you differently if you have insurance through them/Asurion. A couple of years ago, I was having a problem with my LG Voyager and took it in to them. They told me it was a known problem with the phone, and they were going to let me pick from three other phones right there at the store.
A co-worker's wife had the same phone with the same problems, so I told them to go in and try and get the replacement. When they went in, they were told they couldn't get a free replacement phone like I did, and that it was because they didn't have the insurance on the phone.
I've used insurance enough in the past to warrant me continuing to use it, so when I heard this, I figured I'll just stick with Verizon's Aurion insurance due to the benefits that possibly come with it.

This.
I've also been eying ensquared. It looks like the best, but I'd like to hear if anyone has experience with them.
The BB insurance seems like the way to go. So basically for $10 a month you continually drop your phone, and you will get a brand new device each time? Not that I would do that, but it would be nice to have that piece of mind instead of having to worry so much about your phone...
I will definitely be buying my next phone from them if they don't change this policy.

VZ rep told me a $199 deductible. When I started laughing at her, she said it was an $800 device. I declined.
Okay ya it asurion is a 100 dollar deductible but it covers lost and stolen phones. No other does that I know of without having a deductible. Best buy is 10 dollars a month combine that with asurion so your covered if its lost or stolen. That's 17 dollars a month or 204 dollars year. 2 year contract that's 408 dollars.

I recently got a gs3 from a friend..so I did not buy through verizon or update my contract. With every single old phone ive had if i had any problem that was not due to dropping or getting wet i would call and the phone would be replaced through a one year manufacturer warranty. Is this still the same with the s3 and does it matter that i did not purchase it through verizon? i know i cant get insurance since i didnt purchase it through them but isnt it still covered from the manufacturer warranty? again i always got phones replaced for free if there was something wrong from the manufacturer.. as long as the phone had no signs of being dropped or abuse
I purchased my phone on another friends account, so I wouldn't loose unlimited data and was told by Verizon that it's fully covererd for 2 years. 1 year from Samsung and 1 year since I pay for the insurance. Hopefully I wasn't lied to!
My friend has bought a couple phones via craigslist and was able to put insurance on em. And yes you are still covered via the manufacturers warranty, atleast my friend was.

I'm looking for insurance, and I'm looking for one which pays out the value of the phone.
I've seen many insurers, but most just send you a replacement phone, and those are just refurbished phones, yet the monthly premium is about £6+per month.
I've never taken insurance before, and would like to see what you guys are using.
I've only ever used Vodafone insurance and they have the same policy of providing refurbished phones IF the particular phone you have is not in stock.
Having said that I've only ever received one refurbed /alternative phone but that was because the phone I had was relatively ancient. 9 times out of 10 you do get the phone you've lost.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Having a replacement is something I don't want. I'd prefer a cash payout so I have a choice to buy a new phone.
Are there no services which do that?
Every time I claim insurance, I pay the excess, then they send me a crappy refurbished phone which breaks after a while anyway, then I gotta pay the excess again for the same thing. The loop goes on...
