Use this: http://d-h.st/8zt instead of the file from step 2. See if that'll work

It was clearly written that that root method was for ICS 4.0.4
Try joe's file and or search for JB 4.1.x root method!

To be honest I initially used that method myself and it worked great.

i have 2.2.2 on my phoenix
Go on the market or your browser and search for an application called 'z4root'. If you're running 2.2.2, it should work like a charm. If it doesn't, also try GingerBreak. These are both great one-click applicatoins that are almost fool-proof rooting tools. GingerBreak (not sure about z4root) also includes a feature to unroot your device as well. Best of luck.

All i know is that you could odin back to a rootable build, and then reroot and install the rooted version of the latest from here
If anybody knows an easier way feel free to share
Like others below me said, use this method here
Yeah just re root. You don't have to Odin back. The new build can still be rooted just like the other ones.

It works. It's always been a little buggy. Keep trying. I did have to install superuser from the play store manually afterwards though. Maybe you got the SU binary pushed and just need to do that still?

So keep running the debugfs root from casual. It works. Try adb kill-server after the first reboot and after clicking "OK" in casual. It worked for me.

OP: Were you able to get root back?
I am running stock, rooted. I was able to retain root following the upgrade by utilizing Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.

OTA will always break root but eventually it will not only break root but also break unlock exploits regardless of any app. Ask the EVO 4G LTE guys who are now stuck with locked bootloader.

I had root custom cwm recovery had JB ROM installed and flashed solid ice 2.0 and booted up. Once in tried installing ROM toolbox and couldn't get root access. I still have custom recovery and super user but I have no root access. I did searches and followed all instructions but couldn't find anything on my current situation. I've never flashed a ROM and lost root. I'm on sprint but have my girlfriends s3 rooted on Verizon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I lost root on my galaxy nexus, I just restored a nandroid backup and I was back in business. That should work assuming you have a previous backup.
Try opening SuperUser and updating your binaries.

Thanks but I have no option in super user to update binary.

In super user store to the left. You should see some green and possibly Red writing. Touch there and you now have the iron to update binaries.

yes you do...open super user, slide your screen to the left, under the info tab look down and tap update binary...so easy a
caveman can do it!
Haha, not on this version Just says it's out of date. I think there's some kind of a flashable zip to update right now.

Just for clarity for future users who stumble on this thread, which method worked: updating your binaries or installing whatever is in the dropbox link?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Yes it was the flashable zip that kintwofan was so cool as to post. That's what enabled me to update binaries on the version I'm on. Great idea, that's why I wanted reply with the success but I should have clarified

Feel like a total noob, but basically I rooted my 6210 using the cwm.zip and root.zip method. I then flashed a custom ROM but I have now lost root access. I tried to root again which says sucessful but I dont have root access. Is there a way to root again through odin? CWM recovery is still working, but superuser and busybox all say no root access!
Thanks and sorry if I am being stupid here but not done this in a long time when I first rooted my S2 lol
