Nexus 4 Bumper/Headphone Jack - Nexus 4 Accessories

I got my Nexus 4 bumper this week and it looks awesome, but the i realized that the opening for the headphone jack was too small soI had to buy an auxiliary cable so i can listen to music in my car.
I bought these ones.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Griffin...lack/8959834.p?id=1217029959516&skuId=8959834
It fits snug on the phone and I hear a click and the sound works fine, but sometimes the sound cuts out and the settings from my car switch from AUX to CD. The music on my phone keeps playing, but sometimes in order to switch back to AUX I have to fiddle with the cable on my phone.
If the cable was being disconnected the music would just stop, but it doesn't. I had the same problem with another cable that I had before I bought the bumper.
Please and thank you for your help.

I, too, had the same problem with my earphones. But I stopped buying highend earphones a long time ago because I kept losing them. So, I basically went to Winners (same company as TJ Maxx in Canada) and bought another set that fits for $10. I only use earphones when I work out and when I'm driving (for making calls)

Also, I noticed that the headphone is bent a little to the left. Is that normal?

Same here. So i guess its normal. Beside the beautiful design, it's pretty sad that the headphone jack isn't big enough. All my cables are to big...the one in the car, the one to my radio and the one to my headphones...
Guess i have to get along with this

How to listen to music?

Hi there,
I used to use a SonyEricsson Bluetooth Stereo thingy to listen to music and while the quality was decent (no skipping) the battery of the earphones doesn't last long enough to make this a good solution if you are on a long travel. The other problem is that you can't use bluetooth earphones on a plane.
So, since the HTC standard earphones are awful, I bought this adapter
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=142091
and I am now using my Sennheiser earphones.
As you can see from other customers' comments this adapter is really crap and as soon as you touch it the sound becomes muffled and you need to readjust it so that the contacts work again. Basically you can't listen to music with the phone in your pocket.
So the question is: what is your solution to listen to music? Is the HTC wired remote reliable in terms of having good contacts with the body of the phone? Is there another adapter that has more stable contacts.
This is becoming a major drawback for me and I am not sure I want my next phone to have all the hassles that the HTC proprietary connector implies.
Thanks in advance!
A.
PS: I know there is another thread about this but my point here is that I don't care about having or not having a microphone, or what Expansys is selling.... I want to be sure that someone is using something with good results!!
I have a very cheap adapter with a short cable, found it on ebay.
Works flawless, as it has a cornered plug.

Thanks for your reply. It is indeed quite cheap so I will give it a try. I really hope the L-shaped plug works better!

I have just received the adapter from Hong Kong. It works great! No comparison with the one sold on Expansys. This one fits well into the USB socket and there's no problem with the sound disappearing when moving the phone.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I have the I.Tech Radio Clip
http://www.itechdynamic.com/en/products_spec.asp?cid=2&pid=02050
Works like a charm, no issues, and battery life on it lasts 6 hours, enough for me.
Best thing about it is the ability to skip music and pause and play music without taking your device out of your pocket or holster, bad thing is everytime you do, your device goes on and battery can drain if it doesn't switch of soon or other buttons may be pressed when it is on in your pocket or holster.
Another good thing is also the radio, and I know that it is just a perk, but good enough, if your sick of your songs, listen to the radio.

Need help getting wired headphones to work

A while back I purchased a 2.5mm-3.5mm headphone adapter which actually said it was made for the Treo 750 (It is pictured below). I used it a long time ago when my Treo still had WM5 on it and I recall the fact that it worked fine. Now (I have Wm6 on it), whenever I plug my wired headset into the headphone jack, I get no sound out of it. When I turn up the volume - whether the headset is plugged in or not, the audio always comes out of the speaker on the back of the phone. Am I missing something or is anyone else having this issue?
headphones or speakers/cassette?
I have the same problem whenever I use anything OTHER than headphones. Standard headphones DO work with the adapterfor me. But external speakers and car cassette adapter does not. My adapter is brand new. Didn't work before OR after the Windows Live 6 upgrade. Grrr, as the majority of hte time I want to play music in the car.
UPDATE: THE PROBLEM IS THE ADAPTER
I had bought an adapter that looks like the one pictured in the above post. I took it back to Radioshack and explained the problem and asked if they had a DIFFERENT kind of 3.5>2.5 adapter. They took me back to the stereo section, where they had one that is straight without the cable. THAT ONE WORKS GREAT! And it was about half the price. They said they sell the other one up front with the phones "because the iPhone's jack is recessed and won't work with [the straight one]". (Hmm...not because it costs twice as much?)
The new one is RadioAhack part number 274-373 1/8" to 3/32" adapter. Hope that helps!

Well that explains it! I always thought an adapter was, well, just an adapter. Didn't know there was any real difference between them. I'll have to head over the RadioShack and pick one of those up. Thanks!

Issues with head phone jack

So I have had issues with the head phone jack on two different thunderbolts.
When I plug in the head phones if the plug turns clockwise or counter clockwise at certain points I will lose sound from the left head phone. Same thing happens if you gently push the plug to the right.
I also tested headphones on the models verizon has on display and it did it on those too.
(note, I tried 3 different sets of head phones). This is really bothersome to me because if its in your pocket sometimes the plug gets nudged or turned).
Anyone else experience this? Not sure if I should attempt to exchange yet again.
Mine was working fine for a while but then my left side of ear buds went out. But then I plugged my ear buds into my PC. Turns out the Ear buds went bad. Skullcandy breaks way too easy...Phone is Fine though. just Coincidence I guess.

I discovered this same exact problem the other day and here's what I've found. I have 2 sets of headphones, 1 works perfectly fine and the other exhibits this same problem with the left ear going out. For the bad set, if I have them plugged in all the way then I have the problem, but if I pull it up a tiny bit after I've plugged them in it works fine. I don't know if there is a tiny difference in the length of the connectors or what but they just don't work when plugged in all the way. I figure I'll goto the hardware store and find a tiny little bushing and just put it on the headphone connector so it doesn't plug in all the way.

I also posted on the androidforums about this. Apparently it seems fairly common. I have exchanged my phone once for this issue and the new one came back the same way. I dont know if its a bad batch of phones or what. Even some of the display models did it at the store so it seems like a crap shoot.
The best thing to do would be call verizon support at this point I think and let them know its an issue so it becomes a known issue with them. They told me today that they haven't heard anything about this incident.
Same issue here. I noticed it when i had it plugged into my aux cable in my truck. Also, I don't know if its related but playing pandora over my speakers results in a really high pitched "click" from time to time. I never experience it when just my headphones are plugged in nor when i am using winamp.
I also have this problem - also the left speaker that gets cut out. I can either try to force the jack further in, pull it out a bit, or move it around until the connection is made. These are with UE TripleFi 10's.
I have the same problem.

So verizon sent me a new phone and it does not have the issue the other two phones exhibited. It seems there are a bad batch of these headphone jacks. I suggest calling Verizon and letting them know that you are having an issue if its bothering you, so they at least recognize that there are quite a few people having the issue.
If the Thunderbolt's headphone jack is anything like my other smartphones, the reason you're having problems with your headphones is because you're not using the proper kind. Look at the picture on
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/02/12/macbook_owners_frustrated_by_new_audio_jacks.html
Regular earphones have 3 metal bands separated by two nonmetal strips, whereas headphones for phones oftentimes have 4 metal bands separated by three nonmetal strips. This means if you're using a three-banded headphone into a four-banded jack, the contacts don't properly align.
The reason for this is simple: the headphone jack also serves as a jack for a microphone/earpiece.
I have a special set of stereo headphones that also have a microphone so if I'm listening to music and get a call, I can answer without having to unplug.
Hope that helps.

This is not the issue as the new phone has no problem with my 3 banded head phones work just great now. There is a defect in some of the inputs. And most high quality head phones such as etymonics and shures do not have the 4 banded design.
The description you mentioned does not support the anomaly that is happening, sound does not travel through one headphone nothing gets re routed the speakers on the actual phone.
Although this is very useful post it does not explain why the head phones now work perfectly as they did on some of the other TB's at the verizon store.
I also have post on android forums about this matter.

I had the same thing happen to me. I originally purchased mine on release day, they tested it with one of theirs and it didn't do it, so they gladly exchanged it for another one.

no issue with it here
This is going to sound like an odd solution and I may catch some flack for it but here it goes: Go to the auto parts store and buy spark plug Jelly. It has the unique quality of being able to transfer electric current hence no more losing audio L or R. I did this on my D1 and it worked perfectly. Just a tip; don't use a ton less is more.

While that would help the connection, I can't say I would ever recommend it. It's going to be a dust collector, and nearly impossible to clean out. It is better suited on the spark plug because the plug is covered and sealed for most of its life.
Also, it can make a short between two of the connections, spark plugs only have one connection where the jelly goes.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Ok those are good points. What I do know from experience is that it did work on my D1 and I never seemed to have an issue with dust but that might have been because the case I used plugged the headphone jack. So.... I will repeal my suggestion; don't use spark plug jelly.

this post is wrong. im having the issues and ive been using headphones with a mic and music controls since day 1. the issue is with the jack, not with the type of headphones being used. ive tried 5 different sets of headphones and they all exhibit the same issue.

I agree with you, it should have nothing to do with having a mic, as the same exact pair of head phones I used ( 3 ring) that did not work on the older phone now work perfectly on the new phone.

just bought a new vehicle bluetooth <$20

hey guys i just bought this cheap cheesy thing, and i rarely do this anymore, because probably 1 out of every 5 times items like this are DOA...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ATAIUU/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
what do you guys think? i was just sick of all the cables in the car and while i will probably still have to use the charging cable obviously, i like having my device upright in the mount, and this will eliminate the need to put the stereo jack UPRIGHT in the air.
does anyone else use anything similar?
the reasons i chose this one is: my car charger will charge it, and it uses a simple stereo headphone jack. they are right next to each other in my car. also my car shuts off the charging ports when the engine isnt running, so it will be hassle free for me.
I use something similiar I got off of ebay. Works great! Pairs automatically when i get in the car and if I get a call, the bluetooth headset overrides the music. PERFECT! Youll be happy you ordered it.

Very nice I will be getting one
See my signature for my reviews on the Nokia BH series. I've had one in my car for the last 2 years as my BT hands free/BT Streaming for decent price. It has worked great for a long time for me.
FYI: it DOES require you to have an AUX In port.

Audio output static noise with adapter

Hi everyone, I got my new mix 2s this week and I am sad to say it has audio problems when using the included usb-C Jack adapter.
My car is equipped with a sony stereo with a front facing AUX in, a cdx-gt33u. So, as soon as i plug the phone in the aux in, there's a hiss, a loud white noise. After some seconds that the screen is locked or the phone isn't sending any audio the noise stops. When I play music the noise starts again and covers the music as it is louder.
I tried every cable I had, even in a friend's car with a similar stereo unit and the problem is the same. With a TRRS cable (one with also the microphone's ring) there are also clicks and pops.
I would like to keep this phone as I really like it (and I can't find any good alternative for about 500€) but I found no fix. I'm considering returning the device as I work with audio professionally and not being able to play music in my car is just ridiculous.
What's your experience? Did I get a broken device or is it a software issue?
MIUI version is MIUI Global 9.5 Stable (9.5.19.0 (ODGMIFA)
EDIT: I considered installing another rom or rooting to apply the "<ctl name="RX HPH Mode" value="CLS_H_HIFI" /> Replace CLS_H_HIFI with CLS_H_LP"" fix, but I bought the phone less than a week ago and rooting it just to listen music doesn't seem reasonable to me.
It's working just fine in my cars audio in... However, the LG G6 my girlfriend owns has the same problem with my car that you just described
I don't experience any audio problems when using the USB Audio Adaptor with wired headphones. Car audio systems sometimes have issues though when you hook up a phone with a wired sound connection. I think a grounding issue creates the noise.

You are totally right. Yesterday I bought a ground loop isolator and the problem is gone.
I also got a small bluetooth receiver to put into my stereo aux in. Quality is worse but at least I can just leave it in the car without having to worry about adapters! (now I have to worry about its battery though)
This jack-less technology is leading us in a really uncomfortable direction but I guess we have to live with it.

I agree unfortunately. Phone device manufacturers and headphone makers seem to have decided that we're going to have to use Bluetooth whether we want to or not.

You could leave the adapter in your glove compartment in case the battery runs down on your Bluetooth receiver.
Ive got a bluetooth receiver in my glove box powered by usb from my head unit so it turns on/off with the stereo. Its arguable that audio is worse using bt if you have aptx codec or even better aptx-hd which is virtually lossless. Using the dac in the phone could induce more noise because if the space constraints in a phone and proximity or rf components. Having a good quality Bluetooth receiver with a quality dac could be better. Best of all is a usb dac though.
