Maybe you could try "smart screen off"
Tap tap worked fine on my O3D but smart screen off is better
Add this to build.prop (system/build.prop) if it is already found change the value to 1 :-
Code:
ro.config.hwfeature_wakeupkey=1
This will let you unlock the phone by volum buttons too . if you want an app I think it will not work because when the phone goes into deepsleep all apps are stopped even the system .

AW: Lockscreen without powerbutton
Okay, thank you very much, but my powerbutton isnt broken, i only want to unlock it without powerbutton, because i think it is better so you dont use the powerbutton often.
I found apps, abd some users said they work :S

Does anyone know if there is something that can be edited in the build.prop that will enable the home keys to stay illuminated when the screen is on in dark settings? the keys go off so day and then you can't see them

no i dont think samsung puts that setting in there. hoowever you might be able to use an app called "keep the lights on" which will bind the backlights to screen on. that way they dont timeout at all
Yeah I was just wondering if there was a line that could be edited in the build.prop that you could change a standard value, like so many milliseconds to more milliseconds for the home keys alone. I wouldn't smythe entire display not timing out

thanks for the input, but the app only allow me to lock the screen. is there any other app that will allow me to unlock the screen as well?
Tap Tap app does this. I use it to unlock using the proximity sensor.

you need to edit the build.prop file

So my power button is like broken.. and its giving me hell to "try" to fix it.. (i've opened the phone and started to touch it and move it.. to make it work).. so.. i don't want to use it anymore..
I was wondering if there is a way to wake up the phone using the volume up/down buttons.. or the menu buttons? i'm running CM10..
There is an option somewhere in settings called volume rocker wake.

Tasker has that capability when the "secure settings" plug-in is installed.
You could trigger it from a Tasker gesture (involves moving the phone in space) or shake... both of which are detected by accelerometer.
Edited to add: Andros' solution sounds simpler.
cool.. i found it under screen settings.. also.. is there a way to lock the screen WITHOUT touching the powerbutton?

There are Apps to do this. See the penultimate and antepenultimate posts here:

ps
penultimate = next to last
antepenultimate = the one before that
Sorry to be obnoxious... those are funny words and I didn't think I'd ever get to use them both in one post.

It may be a simple issue to fix, but it's annoying that I can't capture my screenshot the power button and volume down combination capture screen. I'm having to go to power menu and selecting screenshot.
Any thoughts as to how I get it back to default?
I'm using Paranoid ROM 4.1-Beta 2.

PA could be using a different method (or keys are remapped when you enable in reboot menu). However it could be an error like Samsung devices have and you need to reboot for it to work (I imagine you've already tried this though)
I'm just saying this just in case because I have come across quite a few people with this issue and they were just doing it wrong.
Power and Volume down at the exact same time. If either are pressed slightly before the other it won't work.
Have you ever been able to elicit the screenshot functionality using the buttons?
If you are rooted use xposed with expansion menu when you press off key only menu Inc screen shot comes up on screen. It's in gravity box and others

Thanks guys. Reboot didn't work and I'm quite aware of how to take a screenshot as I do it often but uninstalling a Xposed module must have fixed.
I was over Xposed with tweaks lol.
Thanks guys.
