Is it possible to install a mod directly into a ROM through the computer instead of flashing the mod on the device? If not, flashing the mod thru the device, would I pull that ROM off the device w/ the flashed mod installed?
I just wanna make my own tweaks to stock VRBLK3.
PS, would love any personal lvl help from dev's if they're willing
I haven't used the option, but cwm has an option for side loading. A buddy of mine has used it once and it worked great except for the fact that he said it was very slow compared to having the zip on the phone and flashing it that way.

Like I said, I have never done it, but from what I understand its basically using CWM to flash a zip thats on your PC and not the phone.

Is this the right mod for my SGH-T959? HERE
If so I had trouble installing it. I'm not sure what method works. The only method that worked so far is here [[Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011]] But its not the Rom I wanted.. I want to install the latest cyanogenmod
Nope. If it's a t959 you have a vibrant. Go to the proper forums for your phone. Look under your battery for the model number.
if it's a t959v then yes you're in the right forums.

I know there are a few of these threads in other device forums but I am posing this question to G2x owners only. What is the best ROM in your opinion for use on the G2x? I just rooted mine and have ClockworkMod 5.0.2.0 running with ROM Manager in place. Now it is time to play. A little background, I am a Red Hat instructor so any ROMs a linux nerd might find useful that play nice on the G2x hardware would be awesome.
I've used weapon g2x for a while and it was pretty good. Switched to cyanogenmod 7.2 and it's also pretty good. I've heard phoenixblood is also amazing.
I recommend you just jump in and try them.

Mileage varies with different people so the best way to pick a ROM is to try them yourself. Make sure you use Titanuim Backup to help keep your apps and data through the changes.

I never knew why people use RM. Just boot into CWM. RM can **** up at times. I've even seen it brick some people's phones. Also, the G2x uses a modded CWM. So using RM wouldn't be a good idea either way.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I flashed my first ROM with ROM manager, and of course something went wrong, and the G2x wouldn't boot up. At the time, I thought I messed it all up and bricked my phone.
CWM is just a safer option. Even if the flash goes bad, you can still boot into CWM and do a nandroid restore, then it's like nothing happened in the first place. Plus after you've done it once, it's actually a really simple process to do, but now you have an added safety net.
Yupp use cwm much more stable and easier? I used rm and it soft bricked my phone. Managed to fix it tho with nvgflash

The recovery partition on Tegra 2 devices works very differently from the recovery partition on almost all other devices. Rom Manager works around this by simply installing it's own version of CWM on a portion of your system partition (I'm fairly certain that is where it places it, but I could be wrong). The Tegra architecture protects certain partitions from being written to while in anything other than recovery or NVFLASH. This prevents certain blobs from being flashed properly with RM. Also, some options can wipe the partition the RM flashed 'CWM' is on, completely removing your non NVFLASHED recovery. While it is extremely rare that this CWM could do permanent damage to the device, it's just generally safer and more consistent to use the 'real' CWM that you flash to the device with NVFLASH, as it is on the proper partition and separate from any partition that a ROM might attempt to format.
Makes sense. Goodbye Rom Manager. Thanks guys.

I am not aware of a CWM flashable back-to-stock zip. You need to use a computer and either Odin or Heimdall it back. Qkster said to look at his thread and I recommend following that advice. His Heimdall package works pretty well.

I have never used it, but dman's uclb3 is CWM flashable. You might want to read the thread carefully as always.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22775901
When I asked recently about the confusing (to me) comments about video near the beginning of that thread, it was clarified that video depends on the kernel, and those comments do not apply if you have the latest GB kernels from Entropy or Zen ( which have no video problems)
Others are welcome to chime in if I have missed something important.
Man, I've been through about every post there is about the infuse on every site you can imagine. You know you're at the right place when every other site either quotes somebody from here or just straight up links you back to xda. If you can't find what you're looking for with a simple search on here then you shouldn't be doing what you're trying to do or you have a truly unique problem which is rare.
To get to the point, I don't think you can flash back to stock from cwm but if you succeed in doing so, please post your results and how you did it. If you're trying to fix a bad flash or getting the phone ready to sell or for any other reason, there is no replacing odin in my opinion. I know that flashing a ROM from cwm is super easy, but odin is just a hair less easy. Even if you have to borrow a computer, it should take no more than 10 minutes including download time. Thats my two cents. Take it or leave it. Best of luck to you.

Jelly bean ROMs use a different system partition that cwm can't change. If you flash the stock ROM you will get stuck at the Samsung screen.
If you are in jelly bean you need to Odin or heimdall back to stock.

No worries, I wasn’t taking offense to your comments. I was fishing for information about possible limitations of dman's uclb3 CWM flashable GB package (That info did come later in csandman1977’s post where he identified that package won’t work when coming from Jelly Bean.). Please don't hesitate to share your experience and thoughts here.

I think you’re talking about dman's uclb3 CWM flashable.
As identified by csandman above, it won’t work coming from Jelly Bean. I’m not sure about ICS.
I’m pretty sure it would work fine coming from any Froyo or GB Rom.

Ya.. maybe it is just 'one' of the ROMs that has it for the S3 but if you are trying to choose between some of those ROMS to get your multi-window feature then here is just my opinion between Synergy/Galaxy Mod.
If you want an easy, stable, feature complete ROM that isn't all about making it look fabulous (and most fail at the fabulousness), and feels polished... then Synergy is where it is at.
Day one from when I got my S3 I started with Synergy... ran great... but I decided to try Galaxy mod because of people talking about it's battery life and I was having a battery drain issue and ran it for a day. I was just disappointed with it's mods/tweaks/style that it tried to incorporate that didn't seem polished, work right, and clashed with the base style.
Went back to Synergy ROM with a full wipe, battery life had improved, and I haven't strayed since. However, I honestly don't care though for the other ROMs that already come pre-themed, and the other ROMs available just do not have the feature set.

So even now, with multi window, do you still feel it's very stable? I'm on Jelly 'beans' b10. I never tried b9 with multi window because in the forum they said it wasn't as stable and that the other roms with multi were having the same problem (stability).
Do you agree? I'm thinking about giving Synergy a shot.

It is extremely stable. For a super stability when in the aroma installer choose custom install, read everything carefully as you go, check anything that says it will increase or maximize stability, and to reduce the chance of any random or quirky thing from happening choose stock kernel.
