As asked by Parth_14, did you mount the /system with write capability?
Also after replacing apk, sometimes you might need to go to properties and change the permissions to rwe rw rw and then restart your mobile.
Hope that solves, else post back ur problem.

Install 'ES File Explorer' from market.
Click menu key and select 'Settings' option
In that select 'Root settings' and tick(select) first option('Root Explorer'), then you'll get a super user request, allow that by selecting 'Ok'
Also select 3rd option 'Mount File System' to make /system as writable.
Now follow as said in first post.
All will work fine.

Thanks to 21productionz, and his re-mapping of the Genius button on the MT4G, I was able to re-map the keys on the MT4G Slide as well.
Pls read through before attempting.
What you need:
An S-OFF and perm rooted MT4G Slide. (so re-map sticks)
A file explorer capable of read/writing root directories/files. (Root Explorer is my personal fav)
The expectation that this is a guide to re-mapping keys, so don't mess up.
Steps to take:
1. Using Root Explorer, go to /system/usr/keylayout
2. Make sure Root Explorer is mounted as R/W.
(top right button should display Mount R/O, bc you are currently in R/W mode)
3. Long press 'doubleshot-keypad.kl'
4. Select 'Open in Text Editor'
5. Line 5 shows 'key 188' with FUNC_4 next to it. Replace FUNC_4 with 'SEARCH' - all caps.
This re-maps the Genius button on the front of the phone.
6. Scroll down a little and you will see # column 3. 'Key 184' needs to be changed from FUNC_4 to "SEARCH" as well.
This re-maps the Genius button on the qwerty keyboard. (now you can actually use quick launch)
7. Hit the hard menu key and select Save Changes or Save and Exit.
8. Root Explorer will automatically create a backup of the original file you edited with the original file name ending with the extension .bak
(doubleshot-keypad.kl.bak)
9. Need to restart before it takes effect.
Pls be sure you have re-mapped the correct keys and entered 'SEARCH' correctly, or your buttons could fail, resulting in a paperweight - with a keyboard.
Also, I did this without editing 'doubleshot-keypad-v0.kl.'
You can also reverse the re-map by replacing 'SEARCH' back to FUNC_4.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Some users have changed the qwerty home, menu, back, and genius buttons to DPAD values, in other words, up down left right..
-to do so, see this thread here
Some other useful info and re-maps.
FUNC_1 = inputs ".com"
using alt while pressing the key you remapped to FUNC_1 results in ".www"
FUNC_2 = is equivalent to pressing the SYM key next to ALT-Right.
FUNC_4 = Genius Button App
To create a 'tab' button in place of www.com
Same file to edit. under # column 0
---- key 150 should say = FUNC_1
make key 150 = "TAB" (all caps, no quotes, make sure spacing stays even)
restart.

From the source thread (21productionz) there was a fix/app called "button shortcut" in the market that would allow you to change certain long press button mapping.. (camera, search button) and this would allow you to choose Genius Button App as the long press search function.
However, I haven't personally looked for it in the market for the Slide..

I assume you are using File Expert and that you have root explorer enabled.
In the keylayout directory, did you open the menu, go to More Options >> Mount >> Mount as Read Write?
One thing that could also help you if you are having issues writing to or overwriting the file is to long press and choose File Operations >> Permission, and Enable read/write/exec permissions.

I saw a thread in general, answered it, and figured this is a better place for this sort of thing. This only applies to the T-Mobile branded Sensation, but might help others as well.
1. Open up Root Explorer and navigate to where you put the bootanimation.zip you want to use.
2. Copy it from there then go to /system/customize/resource.
3. In Root Explorer, then make sure to click the "Mount R/W" button.
4. Paste it there.
5. Find the file "TMOUS_bootanimation.zip" and rename it to "TMOUS_bootanimation.zip.bak" or something of the like.
6. Rename the file you pasted to "TMOUS_bootanimation.zip" and reboot.
There you have it! I've tested it and it works for those of you that managed to get S-OFF and perm root working.
I also wanted to note that my personal experience with this did NOT require changing any file permissions. Your mileage may vary.
I've added the boot animation that was in the leaked video from AlphaRevX to get you started:
View attachment bootanimation.zip
Do you know of any boot animations for the qHD display? That might be a great thing to add to your post.
You need to change permissions otherwise you will get blank screen.

yes i did im guessing im doing something wrong i will try it with another one and see if it works , what resolution should i use if i only use a pic how do we make our own boots animations ?
It's your zip file. To make it work just pull the oem one and remove the files from within using winrar and insert yours same way. That will fix it. I know it's the compression of the zip file but can't remember how to compress it. Search the forum for boot animation compression or google it.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Thanks! I made it my boot down and boot up animation LOL
since a lot of you guys are having problems making bootanimations ...
1. the zip file must not have any compression
You can do this with 7zip. Right click the files, 7zip -> add to archive -> for "compression level" select "store"
2. you should sign the zip
not sure if this is necessary although I simply sign everything that goes into my system folders. You can use ZipSigner from the market. (For "key/mode" select "platform")
3. rename the extension of the current bootanimation to .bak or just skip this if you never want to use it anymore
4. copy the signed file to system/customize/resource with root explorer
5. in root explorer hold your finger on the file till the menu pops up. Tap on "permissions"
Owner: read & write checked, execute unchecked
Group: read checked, rest unchecked
Others: read checked, rest unchecked
6. restart and you're done!
I attached an animated dark blue qHD HTC quietly brilliant bootanimation that I made for good measure.

is it a video that u brake down in to frames or is it pics that you take i have no idea how to start i can do the last part no problem but how or were to start would b a great help thx ...
oh well why not..
1. create a folder called "android" and place the frames of your animation in PNG format in that folder.
2. name them as follows:
NAME_01.png
NAME_02.png
...
NAME_xx.png
3. create a text file called "desc.txt" containing for example:
540 960 15
p 1 1 android
explanation of the desc file:
Width Height Frame-rate
p Loop Pause Folder
first line: width height frames-rate
second line: p just stands for play. the first number says how often to loop the animation. The second number says for how long to pause the animation after every loop. the string is the name of the folder we created above.
So now you have the desc.txt and a folder with your png files - compress them as uncompressed zip file. Continue as described in my previous post.
wouldnt it be easier to just adb push it to that directory?

Seem a new Box should be created here for this device - HTC EXPLORER A310E
IMPORTANT NOTE: wifi error and solution!!
Be aware WIfi conexion won´t work with that method after rooting (at least 4 known cases and me).
I had to install .zip custom ROM for it to work, here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3RC9EE9Z
it's the only one until now for HTC explorer so has some limitations: only english and chinese languaje, has a few preinstalled apps in chinese, and no android market, install it yourself and don't forget to do a complete reboot of phone (untick fast reboot option) to prevent market from crashing when trying to download any app.
Note that you are free to modify preinstaled apps adding and deleting files inside the .zip (system/app/) and will be installed in the "rom memory" not internal one
be carefull not to delete important system apps but there are many widgets and stuff not needed
and yes, we need a BOX for HTC explorer!!

thanks a lot
ivan
@ivanmemento 'needs a new box' probably means a new subforum needs to be created for htc explorer. im not sure tho.
i dont thik there is a way you could root without voiding your warranty.thats one of the usual disadvantages of rooting.
re info
thanks to the explanation, i know about the warranty all my phones are h.ak..ed and rom substitution, and i know about something that can happens if there is a problem but in these chase i mean that if you give them the serial, is different because they can find your phone in their database/black list, and so this is the fact, in other chase like gingerbreak for example, they have nothing in hand to find that you have done something on the phone, it's like if they don't know and if you sent in warranty almost like the factory setting you have more probability to solve evantually problems, but it's ok, my real problem is that i don't want to made errors for the process of rooting, because im not so good both in english and both in codes thanks for your response...
hope to find a solution my phone is also brandized so have many software inside that do itself upgrade upload and other stuff that is expensive...
thanks to all

Can anyone plzzzz help me regarding how to unroot my htc explorer and put back the original stock recovery??? plzz tell me the procedure and also a link to the files required. It would be a great help. plzz.....
Maybe u download an official RUU, start it and look in temo filder of pc for a file "rom.zip" Unpack this zip and u find a recovery.img
Then go into fastboot and run following command with the commandline and fasboot.exe:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
The recovery.img must be in the same folder as the fastboot.exe
Can anyone get me an official rom update or even the original stock recovery.img file for htc explorer/pico......I havent installed any custom rom and still have my original htc explorer rom......I have just installed the clockworkmod recovery and I need to get it UNINSTALLED but for that it requires me to have an official update for htc explorer or the original stock recovery.img itself.....so plzzz if anyone has the required files or any other solution for the problem plzzz help me....

thanks a ton for the help bro but i am not able to find the exact RUU file for explorer....and when searched for it, the sites had country specified ruu so....i am from India and i dont know weather its there for India so....if u cud plzz help me with that as well.... thanks a lot again....
Hi, I found this:
filefactory.com/f/72ab89aee0b699ab/
There are 5 RUU there for htc pico. I extracted the rom.zip file from the europe version and then I tried to install it by recovery. I couldn't install it because the zip was bad. Did I miss something here? Did I do something wrong?
I really want to install the europe version.
After unrooting my explorer and flashing it with stock recovery I got one more ota in india but when I downloaded it and started installing.....it entered the recovery mode and after 1/4 of the installation it stopped and displayed a phone with a red triangle and an exclamation mark in it.....and when I manually entered recovery it displayed this message "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" and when i clicked update from zip it said " Invalid operation " and started rebooting!
So can any one plzzz give me a solution to this....plzzz its urgent...
I can confirm this process works for the HTC Explorer (A310b). Once I rooted the device I notice the network SIM lock was gone! I was unable to find a custom ROM for this phone.

The recovery in this tutorial seems to be clockworkmod unlike mine whwre it has a chinese version of it... so if u guys install rom manager, with clockwork mod, why dont u try flashing a rom and let me know what happens... i tried and t requested i hav clockwork mod
I have on question to a guy who tried it.
After the unlock, you have still s-on and at the top in hboot an UBLOCKED string, or u have s-off alone, or s-off and the unlocked string?

Code:
You've already messed up with your phone.
Now if something happens don't point your finger to me.
All I can do is to laugh at you, as loud as possible.
So always keep in mind that you do changes by your choice.
Thank YOU
After 7amdoun's successful finish on fixing bootmenu bugs, I proudly present the easiest way to have bootmenu on these phones.
First of all check out that you have all the things required :
1. A Motorola XT530/XT531 or XT532.
2. Must be rooted.
3. If you don't know how to root. Check out here [Thanks to 008Rohit]
4. A PC.
If you are done with above things you can proceed further.
There are two ways to get bootmenu on your device
First
Steps are very simple :
1. Just download "Bootmenu_v2.0.2.zip" and extract it.
2. Double Click "Bootmenu Installer.bat"
3. And follow the onscreen instructions.
Second:
[Special thanks to andrewidya for making the .apk]
Either refer to the installation video made by andrewidya
OR
This is easier way, you ought to have busybox installed:
1. Download the "Recovery Installer_1.0.apk" file from the attachment.
2. Install it on your phone.
3. Open "Recovery Installer" from App drawer
4. Tap "Install Recovery"
5. You've CWM installed.
You are DONE
Congratulations, You are now having Custom Recovery in your phone.

Here's a slightly improved bootmenu (with one important variable fix for the XT530).
Try selecting 2nd-init in bootmenu and tell me what happens.
BTW, are you able to unmount /system partition once you load CWM?

There is a manual option somewhere in CWM to unmount /system. Try it and see if it works.
Also, using the new bootmenu I uploaded, try selecting 2ni-init and see if phone boots normally (without ADB).

Edit : Why people are not able to boot in bootmenu? Have I done something wrong?

Hey Guys
All your wait is over.
Here I'll tell you how to get CWM for Moto Fire XT.
Disclaimer : I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone. I have tried it and finished successfully.
Try only if you know little bit about android.
Required things
1. Rooted Fire XT
2. Pc
Download these things on your phone:
1. Terminal emulator
2. Busybox(Open it and install)
3. Root browser
4. Pimp my Rom
You can find all of them in the Play Store.
If you have done with it download the attachment.
Now main work.
It is not easy though but I think everyone can do it.
Steps:
1. Extract the attachment and copy it to your sdcard
2. Mount /system as RW.
3. Open Root Browser and copy bootmenu folder from sdcard/XT530 and paste it in /system.
4. Open /system/bin and locate to logwrapper
5. Rename it as logwrapper.bin
6. Open Terminal Emulator and type:
Code:
su
ln -s /system/bootmenu/binary/bootmenu /system/bin/logwrapper
sync
exit
exit
7. Open Pimp My Rom and Add universal init.d support.
8. Copy /sdcard/XT530/97bootmenu and paste it in /system/etc/init.d .
9. Change permissions of 97bootmenu to rwx r-- r--
10 . Reboot your phone.
Now your phone will start at bootmenu.
Select Recovery>Custom Recovery
PS: If you want to get back the phone to boot normally. Just connect it to PC, open CMD and type
cd path-to-adb.exe
adb shell
rm -R /system/etc/init.d/97bootmenu
exit
adb reboot
I succeeded here's the video:

after d last step when i rebooted...my mob booted as normal...it didnt show any recovery mode...
Ok everybody I think 97bootmenu is the problem.
Solution :
Create 97bootmenu manually.
Steps:
1.Open /system/etc/init.d
2. Create a file, name it 97bootmenu.
3. Open the file as text
Type:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
stop
exec /system/bootmenu/binary/bootmenu
4. repair permissions.
5. Restart your phone and tell me the situation.
how!?
i tried ... same situation. .

Okk I will figure out what's the problem?
And will release it correctly soon.
CONFIRMED WORKING ON XT535 currently backing up Via CWM. Backup complete. Problems are: have no backlight in CWM. when scrolling down with the volume keys the text moves across to the middle. Many thanks guys! info: /system/ is not manually unmountable in CWM, and selecting 2nd init on recovery, the phone hangs at the boot. Be sure to check correct permissions mine didnt work the first time because of perms on 97bootmenu

[GUIDE] Partition SDCard & Install Memory Increasing Scripts(Ungaze,D2EXT+,MOUNTS2SD)
I just bought an 8gb class 4 sandisk sdcard and the main motive was to increase my internal memory as our explorer only has 150mb..i looked at a couple of scripts and decided to go with ungaze... (m using CM10 BETA#3) and voila it worked...in first attempt itself ! ...i am gonna outline the exact steps i followed to get it working as i see many members are having problem with respect to that..
STEP-1 (Partition Your Sdcard to get ext4 partition)
METHOD -1- The Way I Prefer
Use the below link to download full version of MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition :
http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html?part=dl-6285158&subj=dl&tag=button
1. Connect your SD card to PC through any other means other than mobile(like usb mode, adb mode).
2. run the downloaded file (pwhe7.exe) as administrator.
3. select your SD card 2nd partition(in top frame of the window) & right click to select DELETE option.
4. Again select your 2nd partition (unallocated space at this moment) and right click to select CREATE option.
5. select partition type as ext4 and drive as primary (Not logical) from popup window.
6. At last select the apply button from tool bar (first button).
6. Done - you created a EXT4.
METHOD-2 (Credits : Gladiator00)
1. Backup everything in you're SD Card by Choosing Backup Current Rom Option from Rom Manager
2. Make sure you are running Yannou90's CWM Based recovery.
3. Reboot to recovery
4. Go to advanced> Partition SD card> [Choose Ext size]> [Choose swap size, 0 Mb recommended]
5. It will start partitioning.. Probably will take Five [5] minutes.
6. Copy all data back if you want to and enjoy..
7. Use any script you want.. (ONLY IF YOUR ROM SUPPORTS IT)
STEP 2 ( Remove any other previous Scripts like Darktremor A2SD ,A2SD+ etc)
To do this you just need to remove some files using any file manager with Root functionality (I use ROOT MANAGER)
1. Before you delete any files move apps/dalvik-cache back to internl memory.
2. navigate to /system/app using X-plore under Root and delete com.elgubbo.a2sdGUI-1.apk
3. navigate to /system/etc/init.d and delete 00banner,02firstboot,04apps2sd,S70darky_zipalign
4. In /system/bin delete all files containin a2sd/apps2sd in their name
Before Proceeding to STEP 3 ensure that u have BUSYBOX installed. U can use Busybox Installer
STEP 3 ( Choose a Script..For CM 10 BETA#3, Ungaze works well )
Download Ungaze Script (CREDITS : flowish )
1. Copy attached file to sdcard
2. Cut or copy files 02ungaze_init -> /system/etc/init.d ,busybox_d2sd -> /system/xbin, and e2fsck -> /system/bin
3. Change permissions according to the Screenshots below
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Boot to recovery
5. Format sd-ext
6. Reboot
The Phone may take about 5 minutes to boot after installing the Script ...Be Patient !
Finally Go to the Settings Menu and Click the Apps Options...You Phone Should have Extended System Memory Now ..!
if not ..see and check if you followed all the Steps as described. Hope it Helps ... :angel:

There wasn't a one outlining all the steps in a single post....i had to scour through many posts..before i could understand what to do and how. So i made a simple Guide so that others won't have to do the same . Anyhow the instructions posted on Ungaze thread were scattered .
@OP : Include the second way of partitioning sd card.. Which is using recovery.. Steps are :
1. Backup everything in you're SD Card
2. Make sure you are running Yannou90's CWM Based recovery.
3. Reboot to recovery
4. Go to advanced> Partition SD card> [Choose Ext size]> [Choose swap size, 0 Mb recommended]
