Does any one else's Charge seem to get abnormally hot while charging? Like hot to the point where it's uncomfortable to put in my pocket after charging. Wondering if I should try and get the phone replaced before it fries itself or if it's just normal. Thanks!

Mine does it a lot, and its actually getting to the point where it wont charge my battery completely. Charged all last night, battery says 100%, but when I take it off the charger, its on 49%. And it died on 12%. Im taking it to VZW tomorrow to see if they can switch out the battery.

I know. Im actually on a replacement too. Its crazy, it did it with my other phone also. I only got a replacement due to the reception issues.

Verizon should replace the overheating phones. Mine overheated so badly that an error message popped up and said the phone could not charge because it was too hot.....something like that. I brought it to Verizon and they swapped it out no problem.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I wonder how many times they can swap out. Because mine overheats when it charges, and sometimes when itaint charging at all.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
definitely not normal. Mine charges off of a 2amp charger in under an hour from 10 to 100 percent without getting very hot. Make sure you change out the charger too, the phone might not be the only problem. If there is a partial short it could be causing it.
If it's doing it with the factory charger, yes, it's a problem. If you have an aftermarket charger (or battery), it's most likely that. These phones are a bit touchier than they ought to be about where they accept their power from.
Mine seems to get pretty hot as well. Lets hope that we can pull a fascinate and use the warranty to get the sgs2.
indeed
my charge is overheating as well. there are 2 instances when it overheats. while Charging and downloading a huge file from internet or the app that uses internet/data.
I have tried diff battery did not help. I assume everyones phone is like that. Charge has a overheating problems.
IF you are not agree with me try to torrent on the phone for 20min. Just for testing sake and prove me wrong.(I dont torrent but it is a perfect example)

I had the same thing on my original Charge when it shipped to me. Along with the heat issue, my phone was dying way faster than it should considering my setup.
I went to a VZW corp store and they switched me out with a new battery as part of the manufacturer's warranty program.
The new battery didn't overheat anymore and my battery lasted twice as long.
Either way, you have nothing to lose.
big red is shipping me a replacement today...hopefully its a good one!
As always, if you are having heat problems I recommend underclocking/volting to 800mhz. Last time I did that it solved ALL my heat problems completely! It would only get ever so slightly warm when watching Netflix(the most data and system intensive app I know of). Never hot though.
Its done this before but last night it did it again. Turned it off and disabled fast boot. Plugged it in to charge and wake up this morning and the device is extremely hot and the indicator light is blinking red or orange. The battery was only at 88%. I then pulled the battery waited 20 minutes and it powered on and I continued to charge it. Of course after that it was fine. I have not rooted the phone in any way. Anyone have any reasons to why its doing this? I don't think its a bad battery because my battery life is fine. Thanks
anyone have any suggestions?
I had the same problem when I first got my phone, I phoned my provider and he said that shouldn't happen. It was replaced straight away.
Thanks for your reply. However, if I replace it, that would be my fourth one. Its not doing this every time. I didn't do a reboot for over a week though. If I call up T-Mobile regarding this issue would they send me a refurbished one?
I am beginning to loose faith in the wonderful HTC Sensation. Really of going with the Galaxy S 2 when it hits T-Mobile next month.

All phones have their problems...I read you should calibrate the battery. Also it will improve the more you use it.

I did as it did the first night I had it. Up until this morning it was fine. I just worry its gonna do this once in a while. Thanks for the response.
EDIT: T-Mobile was absolutely no help. They said I can contact the manufacturer and go that route or send it since its under warranty but that would get me a refurbished phone.
I contacted HTC and they agreed to send me a brand new battery. Will report back if this issue happens again.

I purchased the evo 3d battery myself and I have no complaints, plus its 200 mAh more than the sensations battery so that's a plus in itself....

So it must be HTc hardware

Hello xda,
Before yelling at me for posting something thats already posted I haven't seen any posts that were recently
I had an Atrix 4G when the digitizer went out I got an Atrix 2 replacement (How lucky was that) well I thought I was lucky until now. I owned my Atrix 2 for 2 months and last night I was playing a game I forget the name. I remember my phone being charged at 60% then I played for about an hour and half and all of a sudden my phone froze completely, no life at all just a lighted up screen with the game being frozen. So what I thought to do is do a battery pull. When I tried to boot it back up there is no life at all but a white light.
I read every where about these white lights ranging from your phone is toast to your battery is so low on a charge that it cant boot up the dual core screen.
Now I've tried everything so far right now I have a spliced up USB port rigged up to my battery charging from my PC. I checked the volts using a multimeter and the battery at first was 0.160 volt now it's up to 0.300 volt.
Now I am not good with volts and all but can someone tell me to keep charging til its at 3.8v (I think thats the batterys capacity) or what?
And I also let it charge all night with the light on to find it done nothing.
When the phones with no battery charging the multimeter voltage says 2.5v.
Lastly, I got a battery otw incase this one isnt good which will be here Tuesday-Wednesday.
Thanks and please come with positive news if you can =D
Mike
Honestly man, it sounds like you're on the right track, and yes to the best of my knowledge, the white light has to do with low battery.
Can you not just charge it while it's off? What ROM are you on?

It seems you have completely drained your battery, this thing has happened to me once. What you can do is get a battery only charger from ebay and charge your battery and you'll be ready to go. This has worked for me and hopefully will work for you as well.

Good idea, I probably will invest into one because after reading I took notice this must happen alot to people and if I get this new battery then I'd have 2 completely dead batteries. Not good at all lol
I am going to let the phone charge on a wall socket for the night. Hopefully it comes back to life.
I wasn't expecting so many replies in such a short amount of time so thanks to all of you!
I went to go watch a movie tonight and we were early and I saw an AT&T store so I went inside and borrowed their battery from the Atrix on display and it booted right up.
So this means either 2 things my battery is fried or just completely dead. I tried everything I could to get it to work from splicing wires to charging all night.
I suggest for people that have this problem to either get a wall charger as posted above by prasannapmv or get a new battery.
You can also go to an AT&T store and borrow their battery, all of this is better then paying a $50 fee for your insurance or paying $300 for a new phone.
I hope this thread has helped other people.

Thank your AT&T store again. I have two in my town, neither one of them would do that.
Nothing says fine customer service like AT&T.
Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

Same thing has been happening to me for the past two days. I just took out my battery and sure enough it is swollen. Thanks for input!
edit: Is it dangerous to keep using it like this for the next few days until the new battery comes in?

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go
I used mine got a while like that because i didn't know it was the battery lol

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

I run mine down to 1 percent on a daily basis. Never let it die though. I was under the impression that if you let it drain to zero you're asking for trouble. I could easily change my ways though.

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.
Hi everyone,
I dont know what happened with my HTC, when I woke up this morning, the phone wont turn on at all. Even if I connect it to charger, the notification light doesnt on. I tried remove the battery and reboot, but nothing works.
My phone was rooted, S-OFFed and running [ROM]Viper 1.3.5 and still working last night, I didnt do anything to it (at least when I was sleeping).
Could anyone tell me what happened to it and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance
How long was it on the charger?

I put it on charger for about 30min, the light doens even go on, like, no charging at all. The phone still wont turn on
Could be the battery. I have had this very same thing happen to me with a new battery. No charging light at all, no sign of life what so ever! As soon as I poped in a new different battery, my phone sprang to life once more. It was very strange because the battery I was using had charge left last I checked and it was on the charger. When I checked the phone it had no life at all. No charging light either. If I we're you, I'd try a new fully charged battery, to see if that will solve your issue. Don't mess with the device before you try the new battery. My issue was the same as yours and a new fully charged battery solved my problem. Hopefully that's all it will take to also solve yours. It certainly can't hurt to try! It worked for me. If the new battery does not solve the issue then you have a different problem all together. But do give it a try and see what happens. Best of luck.

Hi there, you can order a good extended battery like Anker for under 20 bucks. I really hope the battery does the trick. When this happened to me, it was so strange because I was using a NEW
Battery and it had around 60% charge when I plugged it into my charger . Then when I went to check the phone after changing for about a hour it was black. I took it off charger and it had no life at all. I thought maybe the charger didn't connect properly so I plugged it back in, then I noticed I didn't have any charger light like I usually have. Phone was completely dead and it would not charge. Strange. I had another fully charged new battery I kept as a spare, when I put that battery in, the phone came back to life and the charging light worked again! I have not had ANY problems since. It's been about 5 months since that happened to me. I never used that battery again. I just threw it away. It must have been something with the battery. It would not even charge! No lights or anything! I'm really hoping this is your problem also because it's easily fixed. Please keep us updated and let us know if new fully charged battery solves your issue too. It sounds exactly like what happened to me, so I'm hopeful you can solve this with another battery. I wish you the best! Good luck!

It was the battery guys, I bring it to the HTC, and they tested it with new battery, didnt work also. So, they put in a new mobo, new battery, then it worked. They insisted to keep it a few more days to serviced it though. I forgot to tell you guys it still under warranty, sorry a lot.
P.S.: They even gave me a HTC Desire as a temp phone
