First of all I want to let everyone know that I love this tablet. Its fast and performs multitasking like a champ. It has even revitalized the artistic side in me. Unfortunately I will have to visit BB to exchange it back to the Infinity. The battery is starting to upset me. It's taking me 5 to 6 hours from 20% to full charge if I leave it alone. Longer if I'm using it while charging and the thing that drove me to my decision was that while I was play mC3 it was actually draining! I was planning on keeping the Note but since I noticed this issue with gameplay, it will not work for me. I never had that issue with the Infinity. The things I've Attempted ... Discharged twice as suggested to maybe help with slow charging but it did not make any difference. I tried different cables and chargers and still no difference. Unless there is something wrong with my tablet I will have to part ways with it. It sickens me.
Can someone try playing a high end game for at least 10mins to see if it is happening to you? If your rooted will you try playing MC3 for 10mins. That's where I first noticed the issue I'm having. I'm hoping that its just my tablet that's defective and I can just exchange it.

It bums me out though because the Infinity doesnt have this problem it still charges in 3 hours while playing games. The Note charges at about 4mV which I guess is why it takes longer to charge vs the Infinity's 7 to 8mV and is able to keep the juices flowing even while using battery hogging apps like games. I don't mind waiting 5 to 6 hours but when I want to continue playing my games and the battery is low, I would like it to charge my device as well.

You kind of implied this but you weren't clear: did you try using the supplied wall charger plug?
The charger supplied with the Note should supply a much higher current than standard mobile chargers that also supply charge via a USB port. The tablet itself detects whether the charger is a high current one, and charges at a slow rate if it determines that it isn't.
With the note off, it should have charged from empty in 3 to 4 hours. With it on, obviously it'll be longer. It shouldn't go backwards while being charged, as that would imply it's draining more than the charger is suppling, which is about 10 Watts. See this page for more information (the Tab 10.1 charger is the same as the Note 10.1 charger).

Edit: Yes I used the charger that came with the tablet. My wifes OGT 10.1 and a generic charger. They all have pretty much the same output of 4mV. I have cooltool installed and battery monitor pro to monitor the voltage. All I know is that it does drain whenever its plugged in charging and playing a high intensive game. It takes a very long time for my tablet to charge to 100% from 20% like I mentioned in my first post while in use. I play a lot of games so I need the tablet to charge properly while I play around and its just not doing that. It kept at and around 4mV nothing higher.
Its really awesome that this tablet runs so well and it can take whatever you throw at it. But one thing that is a major deal breaker for me is battery. If it cant charge properly while its in use then it will not suit my needs. Try it out for yourself and let me know if its doing the same for you. The game I play a lot is called Modern Combat 3. Its not compatible for the Note yet but since I have a back up from my SG3 and Infinity I can give you the download link. I guess I'm I the only one that's noticed this? Or is my device truly defective? I guess you guys have already a system setup to where you dont have to charge your tablets until bedtime. I always seem to have to charge it during the afternoon:/
So I ended up returning my Note 10.1 and back to the Infinity. The first night with the Infinity... Bluetooth lag sync:/ noticeable performance issue on JellyBean and available ram went down to as low as 98Mbs after restoring all my Widgets and apps. Then light bleeding on all corners. Then clicking loose screen... Grrrr! Not the same great experience with my previous experience with the Infinity. Though the Infinity has everything I need with all its ports and keyboard with extra battery. I started missing the spen and just the stablility of the Note. So the next day I gave the Noten another go in hopes that the first experience will be better with the battery issue I was experiencing. Very happy that I did! This time around my Note was not draining while I was playing my heavy extensive games and was actually charging it! Though it still takes longer to charge then I would like. I'm now happy.

So here is the deal... I have been a Verizon customer for years, and I am just sick and tired of them jerking me around and upping their rates, taking away unlimited data, taking away early upgrades, etc. So I am thinking of jumping ship and going to Net10. I am currently using the HTC Rezound which seems to be roughly roughly equivalent to the Skyrocket (Yes, I know I will not get true 4G/LTE on Net10, only HSPA+). I can get a new, sealed in the box Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SGH-i727) for about $210 on eBay.
So where I am going with this, knowing Samsung has had quality models and, well, lets just say questionable models, how is the Skyrocket? Is it solid and relatively problem free? How is battery life, is it easy to unlock, root, ROM, return to stock, etc? Has anyone used this on Net10/StraightTalk?
So basically I am just looking for people's opinion of the phone in general, from a heavy phone users perspective... My other alternative's at this time are a new unlocked HTC Vivid which I can get new for just under $200, or just suck it up and grab a Nexus 4 from Google, although the $350+tax and shipping for the 16GB model would hurt, a lot, right now.
Thoughts?
I, along with most other power users here in the skyrocket forum will tell you that this is a great device. Rooting, rom-ing, and general modifications are a breeze as long as you read the stickies and have an ounce of common sense. Battery life is subjective to individual use, but I generally get around 12-15 hours with 3-5 hours screen on time. This can be extended significantly with a nexus extended battery and a minor modification (see accessories section for details). Hardware wise it it solid. The only common issue we've really seen is the power button failing for some users, I've had mine since it was released though with no issue so far. We have official support for CM, Slim Bean, PACMAN, and Avatar ROM (maybe more but I can't remember off hand), and ports or unofficial builds of just about everything else you'd want. Also, 4.3 is being worked on hard by our fine devs, and it seems that external speaker audio is the only thing preventing a beta release for most roms at the moment.
The community is, for the most part, knowledgeable and willing to assist with any problems you have as long as you attempted to do your homework first.
Any other questions, let me know. Otherwise, I'll extend a tentative welcome to the Skyrocket family.

One issue bothers me a lot. I cannot use the phone for navigation for more than 2 hours even with car charger connected. In about 2 hours, it drains out fully. My latest theory is that after about 30 mins of charging, the battery starts heating up, and so it stops charging.

User error or bad unit I have zero issues with my GPS or car charging. Also what amperage is your car charger capable of outputting.

I am not 100% sure in terms of the amperage. But I tried with a car charger capable of charging a laptop, using the wall charger and cable which came with the phone. I was sitting in the passenger seat, phone was in my lap (not mounted in windshield) and Google Maps was running in navigation mode. For the first 15 minutes or so, I saw that the phone was charging. The charge level increased by 1% or 2%. After I think 20 minutes, it stopped charging. CPU-Z app was showing battery status as
health: over heated or heated (don't remember clearly the text)
power source: connected
status: not charging or discharing
Phone's back was very hot. I unplugged the USB cable and connected it back, and it started charging again! I waited for it to cool down, removed the phone case, repeated this and got the same result.
This is why I believe the phone is doing something to protect it from over heating. I am not sure though.
Well, I placed my order and should have my Skyrocket by the end of the week, and already have my Net10 SIM and $50 Unlimited card! So basically I am saying you will see more of me around here in the future. Thanks again bps119!

Amperage is important son too little it will discharge, I think it will limit if too much. Nav can cause some heat for some of these guys but I've never heard of it getting that high my guess is something was wrong.

I have gotten my last few chargers at Sam's Club, they are about $10, and are rated at [email protected]
In an older phone I had a similar issue where my phone would overheat and not charge properly, once I got a new charger I cut the end off the old one and read the voltage with a meter, it was putting out almost 7.1v (should be 4.75-5.25vDC for USB 1.0-2.0 standard, and 5.25-5.75vDC for USB 3.0), pretty sure that is what caused it... cheap components equals cheap quality and flaws. Current rating should be irrelevant, as long as it meets the devices minimum requirements (most modern phones are [email protected]), even if a charger is rated at 2, 3, or even 5 amps, the device should not draw more than it can handle. Current is drawn, not pushed, a device will draw the needed current at the expected voltage, you can't really "over-current" a device by using a power source that is rated at the proper voltage but a higher current. Similar instance can occur by using a charger that has too low of a current rating, the device will try to draw more current than the adapter is rated at and the adapter will eventually fail or fall out of specifications.
Some other good chargers are by Anker, PowerGen, or RAVPower, and of course a Samsung branded adapter will work well, most all of these can be purchased for $8-$15 on Amazon. If the adapter is not rated with a current rating, then skip it, it is probably only 600ma-750ma and will be more headache than it's worth in the long run.

Just like to say great. I love my skyrocket. Over clocked at 1.78ghz and 320mhz gpu . great performance. Also with nexus extended battery for $6.50 at sprint. I have no reason to buy another phone. Welcome to the skyrocket community.

I have an HTC Sensation and today I rooted my friend's Skyrocket. I must say, EVERYTHING about the Skyrocket amazed me in terms of performance, ease of use, and quality even though it's very similar in hardware specs to my own phone (both are MSM8x60). Rooting the phone only took about 3 minutes (installed TWRP; there was no locked-bootloader crap to deal with) and the colors on the touchscreen are wonderful, not to mention the sensitivity of the screen is great as well. The Skyrocket has official CM10.1 going for it so I installed that and it's fantastic; everything runs perfectly. Even while using the kernel included in CM10.1 the device was very fast but when I overclocked it, the performance blew me away, not to mention the phone didn't heat up at all (even while gaming!); compared to that, my HTC hits 70°C while gaming on CM10.1 at stock CPU/GPU frequencies. Rooting my friend's Skyrocket today has thoroughly convinced me to never buy an HTC again Also, the Skyrocket has great dev support seeing as how CM10.1 is official for it.
TL;DR: The Skyrocket is way better than your HTC and, in terms of development, it's not gonna die any time soon.

The Skyrocket (and several other Samsung phones) need special "type 2" chargers. Apple charges are type 6, so if it says compatible with Apple, don't use it as it may not work. If the two center pins on the USB port doesn't have a 50 ohm resistor across them (or not shorted) , the Skyrocket will only draw 350 mA. Samsung and older Curve BlackBerry chargers have the resistor. At 350 mA, the phone draws more than the charger is providing, and the charger circuitry heats up trying to keep up with demand.

I've MOD'd all of my chargers, now my phone is happy with the screen on all day while driving and it stays charged, or charges slowly...

I recently got rid of my Skyrocket. It was a good device, but a bad phone. The built-in microphone is terrible, people were always screaming that they couldn't hear me unless I used a headset. The signal was poor too, and I would often not receive calls (with no missed call notification or anything).
The Cyanogenmod support is good, and for an old device it runs plenty smooth and plays all the games I throw at it. So it's not bad in that regard. But the actual phone functionality was a real problem for me.

Well, my Skyrocket arrived, looked great and appeared to be "new"... I fired it up and everything looked fine, but it wouldn't recognize the SIM card, just said "NO SIM INSTALLED - EMERGENCY CALLING ONLY" and wouldn't let me do anything in mobile networks at all (said something about must be registered to a network first), so I popped in an actual AT&T SIM, same result, and both SIM cards work in my old HTC Aria. Called the guy I bought it from on eBay, have to send it back and he will send me another new one. Hope this isn't a bad omen.
That sucks man, kinda takes the excitement out of getting the new phone. Oh well, forget it ever happened and hope that it was just a fluke.

Honestly, you'll love the skyrocket. I've had mine for a little over a year and a half and it's more up-to-date than my girlfriend's s3. It's faster and lasts longer on battery as well. Although her s3 isn't rooted, being a newer device, you would think it would work better than mine. Not the case!
If you're trying to unlock your phone, there is an unlocking thread you could check out, although I'm not on touchwiz so I couldn't do it, others have had success with it so you shouldn't have to worry there. We're a great community, just like we've been when I first rooted a year and a half ago. Enjoy!
So for the s7 edge I opted to get the mophie battery case because neither was water resistant and the mophie charged faster and gave more protection. With the Note 7 the mophie one isnt out yet, but the samsung one does have water resistance now. With 3100 mah i think itll be enough to get some good screen on time. It does come halfway charged so i recommend charging it before use. It works as simple as putting it on and turning it on.
I purchased this on amazon with prime shipping because the samsung website is so backed up they couldnt even give me a date when they might send it.
First up is the packaging. Its nothing special just the normal samsung packaging we've grown accustomed to.

Overall this will do its job but dont expect very much protection as the front is totally exposed. The charging is very slow. It does make the phone both heavier and thicker as is to be expected and makes 1 handed use harder but its a phablet so who cares. I do reccomend this case, but it is a tad expensive. On the other hand though you have to pay to play. Let me know what ya'll think. Will you get one?

Congrats man... Can you please let us know how does the battery lasts? From what i i know it does say battery is 3100mAh but on the back its also written that usable is a lot less than 3100. Anyhow let us know how much total time you could get without plugging it back in.
Also can you confirm does the backpack charges wirelessly or no.
From what I read this only outputs at 1.0a which is gonna be reaaaally slow compared to the standard 2.0a or fast charge. Does it show any specs on the box anywhere?
The backpack itself does not charge wirelessly, only charges the phone wirelessly.

It is slow, but the way i look at it is, does it need to be super fast if its on your phone like all day?
About 3 hrs to full from 16 percent.. idk if it would even make it to full if you are using it but there you go.

I had this for one day and took it back for the Samsung fast charge power brick. The case made the phone very warm and just slowed the drain of the phones battery while in use.

Yeah at one point I was just cruising Facebook and I kept getting notifications about the device charging too slow. And this was while on wifi with the display at about 50%
Alright, so update. The charger doesnt charge fast we all get that. But it does work well enough that i started today at 500am and it is now 624pm with what i would consider pretty heavy usage. Probably a good 5 hrs screen on time and my phone is at 61 percent with the charger totally depleted, i started the charger at about 80 percent battery. I didnt browse the internet too much i was playing a game called dokkan battles pretty much the whole time with screen at about 25 percent brightness because the room i work in is dark. Just some figures for you guys i will keep updating as info is necessary.
As far as the power bricks go they are nice. And significantly faster, but i like not having to carry them around or plug them in, just one button and im charging.
I think for less than half the price with more capacity and 1.8a output, I would rather have this. It isn't waterproof and no access to spen though.

That could be legit
the samsung backpack charges the phone from 0 to roughly 40% - just tested it with my completely drained note 7 - charging....did not use while charging......turned phone on - battery level was 41% on the phone for about 30 seconds, then dropped to 40%.....
backpack was completely drained at the end of this.
i agree with the OP that it is MUCH easier to have this on the back of the phone rather than lugging around a power bank and cord. however, the backpack battery case is really expensive given the mAH it provides.....
i bought two of them b/c i'm on the phone all day talking to clients from my car.....my two cents is that the cost is worth the convenience, but most others will likely disagree......

Cords.....hate having to plug snd unplug. Also in in and out of my car all day. This way I have one backpack on my phone while the other one is connected to my fast charger in my car....
My Samsung backpack charger took the phone from 20% to full with 1 dot left. I changed wireless charging settings to slow charge only. Used it a few times while charging for light stuff. Gets a little warm while charging. I'm pretty happy with it. No cables and has pass through charging if you need it. Makes it twice as heavy though. I recommend it.

Hey guys I replaced my 6p battery with an eBay unit that's clearly not an oem replacement. It does the job so far however whenever I'm outside in the cold this thing drops to zero in a matter of minutes. I'm thinking it's probably because it's a cheap Chinese knockoff. You guys know of any places where I can source an OEM replacement battery

I wasn't able to find one. Ordered several that said they were OEM but when they arrived they were some knockoffs. Huawei ended up replacing mine despite being out of warranty.
I haven;t been able to find a genuine battery either. Some randomly turn the phone off. Some have no temperature sensor so there's potential for overheating. One of them wouldn't charge past 93%. On the positive side, I am a pro at opening this phone up now. Kind of miss having 2 extra batteries that I could swap into my G3.

Funny...I saw that one just earlier today. The thing I found interesting is that the sticker on that "OEM" battery looks a fair bit different than the sticker that can be seen when a 6P is disassembled...so that smells a bit fishy to me personally

i will let battery drain zero and then charge it up and see how it holds up. It came charged at 33 and after 30 minutes of use its at 30 % ..
im excited to see the results, the battery was $13 USD and got delivered in two days, came in a yellow bubbled envelope and the battery was in a little box that said nexus 6p
one thing i noticed was that the flex cable was running from the bottom of the battery as opposed to the OEM that ran on top of the battery, it sits well, but honestly i did see a gap in size. the OEM battery actually filled in the whole compartment and the after market one left some space. i attached it and now im using the phone outside in the cold (im in Riverside CA) and its raining outside, and it seems to be holding up..
opening the phone wasnt hard, got the needed tools from a local dollar store, phillips precision screw driver, a hobby blade kit and it was super simple to open.

Will be interested to hear your report back after some continued discharging and recharging and seeing how it holds up. My battery life is manageable still, but it certainly isn't great lol I just don't know how much I want to open this thing haha
So after draining the battery a couple of times I'm charging it it would seem that this battery is holding up very well definitely holding up better than the battery I had before. This is still happens from when I charged it from 0 to 95 it sticks at 95 and doesn't move from there up until I disconnect and reconnect the cable but after that it does charge up to 100..
On Accu battery the battery reports at 97% health but I'm sure that the difference is probably off due to calibration. One thing that does puzzle me is the capacity that the battery is reporting the capacity that I see even though the battery is a bit smaller than the original battery is reporting 5413 mAh . I'm guessing that after a few more runs it would fix the capacity amount because it doesn't seem right. Yesterday I didn't notice that the phone got very hot in the matter of minutes while laying down on the counter charging at first which kind of worried me because I have never had that issue with this phone before. The phone is working way better than it was before and I could have got it sent out to Huawei and got replaced but I wanted to fix the battery issue as I grew fond of this phone and would not trust a replacement phone to make up for this one. Opening up the phone's very simple I found it surprising that it was so simple as it just takes a hobby blade and a playing card a debit card to slide under the battery and patience I was done with the process in about 15 minutes at the phone running and the battery was charged at 32% I will report back periodically but I honestly do believe that this battery is of good quality and definitely does hold up 2 what was advertised

Does the battery temperature change or is it a constant temp? Sounds like one of the batteries that I tried. It would stop charging around 95% too. But it had no, or non-functioning temperature sensor that read a constant 25 degrees. I deemed it unsafe and disposed of it.
Now that I think of it, you're right. Its at a steady 25 degrees on mine as well

They probably used a resistor in place of an actual temperature so the circuit would give a false reading instead of no reading at all. That's disturbing because fast charging uses the battery temp to adjust it's charging speed for safety and longevity of the battery. And it says a lot about the quality in general and what other protections were omitted. Having said that, I think the chances of actually having a problem are low. But even that was too high a risk for me.

If there is no, or circumvented protection circuitry to prevent overheating and shorts, which it appears there is. Then the worst that can happen is thermal runaway followed by venting flame at 1,000 degrees. Similar to the Note 7 or hoverboard videos you may have seen.

The stock battery is supposed to be 3450 mAh. That's interesting. There is a feature in Accubattery to manually select the proper mAh.

the higher one i'm speaking of is after charging it. that's the capacity it calculated, but that's been changing every time after i charge up, i left the house today at 10:30 and took the phone off the charger then, right now at 2:34 pm Pacific Cali time i am at 73% on L-OS Rom,
i had noticed that CM based roms always drained faster than stock roms, so im running this rom to see the longevity of the battery life on this vs stock to finally come to a conclusion on battery quality after i run stock

Cool. Thanks for sharing your results. I am currently in RMA hell with google and my 6p. They keep sending me refurbed phones with original batteries. My OG which was manufactured in December 2015 had 95% battery life and the ones I have been receiving have been 72% and 84%. Currently waiting on the 3rd one. Hopefully a reliable OEM aftermarket option surfaces JIC.

General question about doing a RMA with Huawei...do you have to send your phone back first and wait several weeks to get it back or will they send you a phone first and you have a certain amount of days to send your old one back, or else you get charged the full value of the phone that was sent first?

Did mine through Google. I had to do a preauth on my cc and then they mailed me a refurb. I send them back my phone in the same box using a prepaid postage label that they provide.

I think it stands for old batteries and chargers, that charged them at a constant rate while lithium ones are sensitive to heat (at least) and need variable voltage and current depending of their actual charge level or they degrade faster over time.
And that exactly what the Power Delivery standard does which Samsung phones are compliant since the Note 10 if I'm not wrong.
So i wouldn't mind charging to 100%
I've been charging my phones to 100% and leaving them on the charger overnight for years! I've never seen any noticeable degradation of the battery life due to this.

Pretty much this lol.
I try not to leave them on the charger all night these days but I did that for years also and no issues either.
Not worth the hassle for me. I've had slight battery degradation if I keep a phone two years, but hardly worth daily struggles. I usually upgrade after a year anyway, haha.

I charge my Note 10+ to 80% and Accubattery shows battery health at 99.95%
I have noticed battery health falling about 8% in one year of use if you always charge to 100%. That being said, I think Samsung has improved batteries a lot and Note10+ onwards use special battery that degrades slower than previous devices
The old 40%-80% was for older technology batteries. Even then it only extended the battery life marginally, and only over many years. it's not like it's a magic cure to make your battery last a significantly long time.
Just charge the phone to 100% whenever you need to, and don't worry about how often yo need to charge it. Battery technology has come so far, and it doesn't matter how often you charge them or how high. There's technology in there to stop charging once it reaches 100% so that it doesn't overcharge.
On the Tab S tablet and under the charging setting there's a protect battery toggle where it will charge the battery to 85%.
I don't know why they don't have this option on their phones but I'm not sure how necessary it really is.

I had great success on my note 9 with the 80 percent charge. Over the long haul it seemed to me to keep getting better. I am doing it now to see how it goes . I also avoid fast charging as much as possible to see if that helps as well. I wasn't aware that they made changes since the note 9 ,so maybe it's all for nothing.

I seem to be on a “how to” kick this AM .... so I understand the debate about 80 vs 100
But how in the heck do you guys actually accomplish only charging to 80%?? I’m so busy I can’t remember to do half the stuff that I really need to remember , let alone remember to take my phone off the charger.
Also do you guys just turn of all 3 of the “fast charging” options in the settings , unless you need them at a particular time?

I used to turn of all fast charging options. I also would find a routine where the time needed to charge matched the time I was doing something without the phone. For me in the morning when getting ready for work was the best time . Had it down to a science, and the alarm from accu battery helps me as well. It does go kinda rough at first, but after a month or so , I did notice that the charges to 80 lasted longer, then it was down to once a day.

Did you finally get and does it work well as advertised?
I opened a separate thread some time ago and people advised to use 30-80 range. I also have Accubattery and follow this principle religiously. However, no matter how I do it, the power charge cycle goes up like crazy. My phone is 2 weeks old and the cycle is now 15 whilst it says the average life is 400-500 cycles. I never bothered about this with my previous phones but don't know what to do with this one. I want it to serve for at least 2 years before I upgrade.
