Aside from completely changing my dpi (I hate a lower dpi on my phone) or by using "by app mod apps" which require the app to be installed (cannot even install tapatalk hd on my gs3, play store incompatible), how can I install/run hd and have it look the way it does on my Nexus 7? There's gotta be a way....

I have a bit of an odd question ...I have an old droid2 kicking around, and I would like to put it to good use. I recently upgraded to a Sony Xperia Play (r800x so no root) and was wondering if there was a way to pair up the droid 2 and the Play using bluetooth to utilize the Droid's keyboard to type on my Play? This would be useful for many applications ...sort of

Well, if the droid 2 is rooted, maybe there is some app out there so you can use it as a bluetooth keyboard.

This is just a throw it out there kind of idea. I am currently on ICS but using an old hacked YouTube.apk that has a blue icon. I use it because it let's me listen to the video even with the screen powered off. What I was wondering was if it was possible to get the new hacked HD YouTube apk that a the latest YouTube version and let's you play 720p and make it so that it also continues to play with the screen locked? Further more if it is possible, could an apk be made that would continue to play in the background even after the home button was pressed so that the video played in the background while you were in the browser for example or in the texting app?
Also as a final thought, is it at all possible to bypass "the user hasn't made their video available on mobile message" and so the search would show all results as if on a PC?
All thoughts welcomed

I would like that
I'm using the hacked 2.4.4 Youtube app on my Epic 4G Touch, that allows me to watch videos in HD. If someone can make an app that plays HD on all devices, AND allows videos to play with the screen off, that'll be a WIN!
I also hope someone picks this up. Subscribed
You should call it modified YouTube Apk
Hacking sounds more evil
Correct me, my english is not the best but i try to learn.

Just replying to this thread to monitor it. Hope this gets released

The PVSTAR+ app that someone mentioned earlier in this thread is great as a Youtube app alternative that lets you play videos/audio in the background.....but a modded Youtube apk project regarding this would be excellent.
I appreciate all the support this is getting and I have contacted that dev and will post here when he replies
I'm coming from a galaxy nexus. I always used 240 dpi because I like things small on my screen. I have rooted and unlocked my s3 what's some dpi I can use? Can 240 be used? What's the lowest you can go and have everything still function? Anyone experiment with this yet?

From my experience 240 is the lowest you can go if you want all the apps in Google play to be compatible. Any lower and you run into compatible issues like you won't be able to install Netflix Facebook and a number of other high profile apps.
But I use 240dpi too and anything more seems way too big. So with any ROM I always change to 240 in build prob.

240 works with stock rom and touch wiz and stuff?

Yes 240 works with stock ROM (but I would think u need root in order to change the dpi)
And no touchwiz doesn't work in 240. You need another launcher like go launcher or apex launcher (the one I currently use at the moment)

I have always wondered about changing dpi within a ROM... is it similar in concept to changing resolution on your PC? Obviously your monitor retains its native resolution but the GPU is outputting something else?

If you change the DPI before you install a different luncher that when you start up ur device touchwiz will keep crashing, you will have to wait until Google play picks up that an app has an update in order for u to get to get to Google play to download the launcher.
If possible install the launcher first, then root, change DPI and ur all set.

They have apps in the market place that changes the DPI but I always set it myself through the build.prop. file
From my understanding its similar but not entirely the same. ur not taxing the GPU any more than normal. (As far as I know android doesn't use GPU to render the interface, its not entirely hardware accelerated)

Use nova launcher and set dpi to 240 and reboot. Loving it. Reminds me of my nexus.

It may not be what you want, but check out "Screebl" on the play store Might do the trick for you. It's necessary for me on my phone.

Mine already set to high quality but I see some grainy picture compare to Netflix. Is there any solution on this?

If you tap the settings while playing a YouTube video, an option for HD & SD is available. Maybe you already know this but I thought I'd share.
