First, thank you for taking the time to visit this thread.
Feel free to answer anything or say anything related/unrelated.
Coming to the subject proper, the above mentioned folder named com.Android.providers.media present in /data/data has a file in databases called external.db. Which today all of a sudden had a mind of it's own and said I'll become bigger and so it grew and grew and made 38MB (There is no more space in /data after that).
So, me:angel:, as the owner of my phone took control and deleted that file, however it seemed to reoccur again after a fixed period of time and certainly after every reboot.
Please do help me to delete this malicious file.
Technical details:
1.Had a history(around 4 days back)of a large thumbnail folder(2GB) in dcim/.thumbnails/.thumbnails~125465,which I deleted and made similar file there with the exact same name(so that it will not reappear )
Edit: This is also a main problem.
2.My media probably won't exceed 2GB at most.
3.I only have less than 50 photos lq
4. I could say that there's not a corrupted file in /sdcard
5. The database file external.db has a list of all files in my sdcard.
Shouldn't it only have a list of media files right ? But, instead it has every file in my /sdcard listed. Even so, I couldn't figure out how it got to 38MB
Any other tech details you want ?
Technical specifications:
1.Recently installed cm10 bhargz version
2.kernel 3 switched to kernel 2.6 at present
3./sdcard total size:32GB
Available: 1GB
4. /data from 40 MB to near 0
5. Recovery cwm6 by sakindia123(even has the blobs files listed..totally ridiculous )
6. Manufacturer:HTC
7.Model: A310e
Attempted and Failed solutions:
1.Deleted the folder
2.deleted updated google play
Possible solutions
1. Re scan media root freeze.. really don't want to do that.
Even if you don't have a solution, please do post your external.db file size and please do confirm that this file only has list of mp3 or album files and not other general files.
Thanks for reading upto here.Even if you don't want to help, feel free to say "That's just too sad". Yup. That's it.

That's how you should tell what problem do you have, with details, nice!
Now more seriously, I have 3 files that are called external.db I'm ataching the screen shot, but none of them is that huge that's also in the screen, is it possible to be, because you are not using memory script(no logic I know but......) or not using the correct one, also did you flashed super striped gaaps, or some ordinary ones, you see I'm hanging on straws here, just have no clear idea of whats wrong, just trying to help as best as I can. I'm using AOKP rc3(It's cm 10 b2 based with kind a video playing fixed, have to use mx player, no youtube though), with super striped gaaps and mounts2sd from playstore.

yay!..A reply.
Thanks man.. especially for the complement and for the screenshot too.
Now for the required tech:
1. No, I'm using script and I'm a app addict. I'm also using mount2SD from play store. But I don't think that's the issue, since I had in ics, with the exact configurations.
2.No again. I'm using the super stripped gapps. I did download the full gapps, but didn't have the mood to install all that junk after looking into it.
I also have the 3 files, but the first one external.db was the one which increased dramatically. My media scanner was on for about 47minutes as per better battery stats app(thanks to you)
One more request:
Can you please look into the external.db file and post what files are present in there ?
Basically what type of files ?
Is it only media files(.mp3,.jpg,.mp4,etc.. )or other normal files(no format files(with no dot),html, game files, tmp, etc. )
format of the database? (click details)
The log file in the database ? (should be in the log entry)
Required tools to do on phone:
1. asqlite manager by andsen(i think)
Procedure:
Copy that external.db to sdcard
And open asqlite manager to open the external.db
I want the files in the "files" entry and log entry
Click on data on top to show full details.
Click page up/down on the top right to move around database.
Menu > option > details to show type of database
Sorry to explain detail, if you already knew or using computer sqlites
And once again, please feel free to say anything you think of at any time.

Ya, no problem, just a tiny inconvinience, maybe 15 minutes after I post this, I changed the rom, it wanted to eat my battery for breakfast. So now I'm on "mini cm10", situation with those file sizes is the same, and another thing, wouldn't be easyer if I just upload a file somewhere and you check it out to see what is what, wouldn't be easyer? And yes explenation was needed so thanks for that, if you wont I will check it out but...... I'm kind a lot of a noob.
Edit I got to a pc, this are the pics and a file if the pics, don't do the work
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B5uKAxW9j6ezVkpTamxVQk1GQ1E/edit?usp=sharing
And by some no obvious reason, the file is with kind a diferent name, maybe because of the rom change.
Yes, thanks a lot for the file..
I'll check fully and report later(probably tomorrow)
ps:I'm on a 1 ~ 2 KB /s network(most pics take a long time to show up)so,nstarted downloading original file
Off topic,
Is mini cm10 less battery consuming in your opinion ? What I don't get is it's more or less exactly the same as original cm roms. I did hear a lot of reviews about good battery backup in mini cmroms.. however I felt no difference on mini cm9..and I haven't tested mini cm10..so just asking your opinion.
cm10 htc a310e k2.6 w/ smooth of butter
I still don't have any data about this, have a busy day today, and the phone was used as a phone, so it looks good, but with that usage everything looks good, will tell in a day or two how it is with standard usage. About the cm 9s they was exactly the same for me. I'm also hoping to get good battery from this, that's the main reason why I flased it, so far I've discovered that it needs a lot of time to stop being laggy(two hours and now no lags in the launcher), so if you decide to try it you should be patient.
I've got nothing.
No idea..
Your external.db also has all files listed just like mine.. but I don't get, how it got to 38MB.. which part of it is occupying space ?
And whenever I open gallery/camera app, A huge thumbnail file(single file ) builds up named .thumbnail_12365.db in dcim...which just took up 500MB of my /sdcard...no more space on /sdcard after that.
I delete it... again a huge thumbnails file builds up..filling /sdcard and eating my already fast draining battery.
What's your /sdcard size and how many files do you have (appRox)?
Delete the external.db file from cloud(I don't think it's too safe..it contains a lot of privacy sensitive data,if you're concerned about privacy that is.. or protect it with a password)
cm10 htc a310e k2.6 w/ smooth of butter
Any idea.. please do share it.
cm10 htc a310e k2.6 w/ smooth of butter
Deleted it, if you need it again, or if you need something else, do tell. My sd is class 4(rubish I know, but for now......... this will do), some unknown manufacturer, 2gb, 512mb ext2. It has 3-4 mp3's about 50 apk's (not installed, just lazy to remove them), around 30 pics(mixed from camera and downloaded from somewhere), some docs, and a lot of rubbish, like themes for miui, and stuff like that, I'm just too lazy to format it, fat partition has 387mb free. About the thumbnail file, i don't have such an issue, I have no ideas. If you want some file or something, anything, do tell, I'm a noob but I like helping people, so if it's something simple I can check it out, if it's not simple, and there is nobody else that can help you, you will have to explain it, how and what should I do, or give a link from where I can read it(I'm not afraid of reading).
Off: About the battery of cm 10, I still don't have some consistent data, but it looks great, today I have only 1h 11m screen time and battery is at 80%, no background services tryed to kill it, cos it is 10h 17m, from when I charged it, so that's for now.
Thanks man..
I'm in the process of taking logs when the increase in size of database comes in...both are related.. the one in /sdcard and the one in /com. Android. Providers. Media... I'll keep informed about the progress and keep me informed about mini cm10.

If you're experiencing similar problems with Android media server draining your battery/making big files/or if you just wanna help, please vote for the above mentioned issue.
cm10 htc a310e k2.6 w /smooth of butter
Hi.. I've checked the logs, but the media server doesn't seem to make a lot of logs.. so I can't figure out as of yet.
My interpretation:
The mediaserver from honeycomb to jelly beans is supposed to scan every file in every system
This includes /data /system /.../dev /sdcard.
Every file not just media file.. this is implemented to help MTP(I am not familiar with this ...media transfer protocol?USB ).And every file is put in the database i.e.,external.db with all it's size data etc..
Major problem is it does this a lot of time @ boot and @ fixed intervals.
This is a major cause of battery drain on my phone.. since I have a 32GB /sdcard and more than 10000+ small files.. scanning every one of those files regardless of
.nomedia was implemented from ics, I suppose.
As far as I problem is considered,
I think it's a corrupt file somewhere..
CORRUPT NOT ACCORDING TO CORRUPT DATA BUT ACCORDING TO MEDIA SCANNER ONLY...meaning if it cannot read a specific file(due to special characters/other languages in it's tag or name),it just gets struck and repeats the whole darn process until it fills up /data or /sdcard. REALLY STUPID.
Now to the question in hand,
How do we find this stupid file?
Not sure.. I don't have a clue
But someone in the above mentioned code. Google
Mentioned this
Code:
lsof | grep mediaserv
Now this returns
A lot of??? In /dev in my device
Does this mean kernel is corrupted?

lsof stands for list of files..
Very useful to know,at the moment which file is handled by which..
For example the above mentioned code gives a hint, what are all the files opened by media server at that time.
lsof | grep 2360
Gives what are the files handled by pid 2360
lsof | grep storage/sdcard0/DCIM
gives all the process that is handling the files in DCIM folder.

Can you please tell me the file size of .thumbnails~12356 present in /sdcard/dcim/thumbnails? (hidden folder )
Have you ever used cm10 beta2/beta1 or any other previous versions?
If you have, are there separate camera and gallery apps?
If you have separate apps in previous versions, can you upload them for me,when you're free? Thanks.
cm10 htc a310e k2.6 w /smooth of butter
For information,
Some information regarding big file in sdcard
1. The big file location is /sdcard /dcim/thumbnails /.thumbnail12345
2.The last command shows that the file "thumbnails ~12354" is handled by gallery and download manager(connected with media storage, downloads and drm storage)
3.The gallery app handles both the file in /thumbnails (dcim folder)
And /Android/data /com. Gallery3d /cache /img0,img 1 and .idx
4.Deleting the gallery app(camera included) is fixing the big file (/sdcard /dcim/thumbnails/.thumbnail12d65m)
5.Opening gallery doesn't make that file
6.Opening camera does create that fîle
Thanks for reading.

Good Day Folks.
I'm a Noob in need of help and i'm hoping the more experienced among us might be able to assist. I have an issue with disappearing phone storage. Over the course of a week I realized that I was losing about 1MB a day. My phone would basically be dormant and I would still see my storage space dropping by this amount everyday.
Cache cleaning didn't work. Later I realized that Android creates a bunch of log files in Data/System/Dropbox that was responsible for the disappearing phone storage trick I've been seeing for a while now.
I know now that Google has incorporated into Android as of the 2.2 iteration, a DropBox Manager that's responsible for logging all of the events that take place during the course of a running Android session. Everything from what took place at boot to force close details.
I understand that this is used for debugging purposes but I'm no developer . So my question is.... Can this DropBox Manager be disabled....somehow.
I really don't need all these files (and its A LOT OF THEM) being created as they serve no practical purpose for me. Not sure if anyone else might have noticed this but I'm hoping to receive some help. Even if it means pointing me in the right direction so I can work on it myself.
I really don't have a clue on how to start. Any help will be appreciated....Seriously...
Currently using G1 with CM6 Magpie running on EZTERRY's 2.6.34.7 kernel.
Its perfect except for this annoying problem.......
Hm what happens if you rename the directory. It might throw some errors in the logger, but probably won't create anymore files.
I just deleted the content of my dropbox folder, the DropboxManagerService was throwing some errors that he could not open files, but the phone was fine, no FCs or anything.
Renaming the directory just results in a random reboot. My guess is that when Android tries to create a new log, its unable to find the directory and then it just freezes and after a while it reboots. Once restarted it just reappears... I've tried that too.
And its true.. Its ok to delete the files. Its what I do currently. All of those files in Data/System/Dropbox as well as the ones located in Data/Tombstones are ok to delete. As I said, its just used for debugging purposes. Whats really annoying though is that, no matter how many times you delete anything, they just get repopulated just as fast as they're deleted. I'm ok with micro-managing my memory and phone storage (its a G1 after all) but this is ridiculous. It just creates too many of these log files too quickly.
If there was a way to turn the DropBoxManager service off then that would be the end of it all.
What's unusual about it too is that in my particular case, the contents of these text files just have two things listed in them. Pertaining to my online accounts associated with the phone: My Google account and My Whatsapp account...
It just repeats the same thing over and over again. I'm starting to think that the event data might actually be synchronization data or at least synchronization attempts made at regular intervals. But ultimately i'm guessing....
I really don't have a clue... Have you ever heard of anything like this on XDA......possible resolutions of this issue?

Not yet .
What about replacing the folder by a symlink to /dev/null ?
You could also try to change permission on the folder.
Ok... I'm a real Noob but I'll take a shot.. When you say symlink what do you mean.
I'm not really familiar with Android at that level yet its really just flashing and such.
But I know a symlink is really just a reference to a location that the OS would interpret and follow (like a pointer i think). So, is it that you're suggesting some sort of redirection where the Data/System/Dropbox directory is pointed to another arbitrary location. Kind of like a creating a dead link that Android is unable to follow up on. Or maybe, redirecting the folder to an entirely new location that Android would then follow. I'm not sure... How do you perform a symlink in Android... I'm willing to try.
You can do it with a console on the phone it self or using adb shell. You need root of course.
You could make a link to another location where you have more space?
Or you change to permissions of that directory to write only.
Or you can mount a different file system to that directory that is read only.
On how to do that just google a bit for linux tutorials on that topic.
I have just googled a bit and it seems you can't symlink directories to /dev/null.
If all that doesnt help post again, there might be an option to make an app delete the files automaticly, first time they get created.
If that would be an option too let me know, im in the mood to program something intresting .
Disabling Android 2.2 DropboxManager [RESOLVED]
I took your advice and did the research you suggested and it worked.
The first thing I tried was changing the permissions on the "Data/System/Dropbox" directory and it worked. But I didn't use CHMOD and console command line to do it.
I have a program called Root Explorer that allows me to permanently change the permissions on any file or folder I select. I set all of the offending folders to read only and the log files stopped being written to those folders.
These are the directories I set to read only:
1. "Data/System/Dropbox"
2. "Data/System/UsageStats"
3. "Data/Tombstones"
Since changing the permissions on these folders my phone storage has stopped dwindling out of control. No additional programming necessary
Disabling the DropBoxMangerService itself is not necessary which is good.
I'm going to take your advice and read up some more on Linux commands (specifically Ubuntu as its what I currently use).
You have been very helpful, thanks for the advice. If you have any ideas about Froyo ROMS (Maybe even Gingerbread ) I should try let me know.
Thanks again....
I have also found these files. They can take MUCH space in memory and nothing seems to delete them. I made the dropbox system folder RO but I think this is a bug. It should be reported to the dropbox team. Is there a bug report form somewhere? I did not find it... Just found the forum, QA,...

Hey, just looked at your SD Maid app (looks cool).
So what do you know about /data/system/dropbox? I just read that htc uses the dir to store phone events which is then sent to the htc cloud of spying-on-your-ass. But since non-htc phones have this dir, is htc merely misusing the directory and it has other legit uses, or is this a directory we should try to keep cleaned out?
(I like the idea of changing perms so nothing writes to it if that's the case.)

Yay, nice to see you didn't read the thread at all.
This has nothing todo with dropbox.com
Yea other day I got the SD Maid, and the Pro version after I saw how handy it was. I too on my G1 (with 2.2) see that dropbox folder.. and lately Ive been thinking its causing my G1 to constantly reboot. When I look, it has 300+ files in it. So I clear that folder and seems to stop rebooting for a lil while.
Not sure what the deal is here however, been trying to find out. HOWEVER it only seems to reboot once its connected to the internet, so I am wondering if this is where it tries to upload and so. Not really sure. That and its hard to tell in logcat whats going on before it reboots.
Thanks
Excellent information. This works on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro MK16a, Rooted. Thank you so much. My best regards.
Try to change the permisions of the folder, I'm not sure if it would work but you could try ^^

All is ok
All was fine. The permissions :laugh:changed with root explorer. Thank you so much
Note completely disabled but only 1 file in the /data/system/dropbox folder with these Android shell commands (or use Sqlite3 editor):
content insert --uri content://settings/secure --bind name:s:dropbox_max_files --bind value:i:1
Or for Android 4.2+
content insert --uri content://settings/global --bind name:s:dropbox_max_files --bind value:i:1
settings put global dropbox_max_files 1
Reboot.
more dropboxmanager settings:
dropbox_age_seconds
dropbox_max_files
dropbox_quota_kb
dropbox_quota_percent
dropbox_reserve_percent
I've been using the advice from this thread to control this "dropbox" data collection directory for several years now until I updated to 9.0 and found that the folder and default permissions were restored after every reboot. Was irritating bc I can use root to modify /system but no longer have control over my own data partition Something is over-riding my root-user!!!
I tried different apps, TWRP's FM, adb, and almost gave up when init.d scripts wouldn't work either. init.d will work tho. A simple script to run
Code:
#!/system/xbin/sh
busybox rm -f /data/system/dropbox
at boot. You can probably chown and chmod if you want but I just deleted it. Just put it in your init.d folder and make sure you give it the correct permissions (root:shell -755), then immediately perform a soft reboot. Use hardware keys if you have to. You want the phone to go immediately OFF, no spinny wheels or "powering off" notifications. That's the only way I could get rid of the damn thing.
Anyway, I came across this thread while searching for a solution and thought I would add this in case any other paranoids like me are concerned about this mysterious "dropbox" directory. This will probably break any ability for google to troubleshoot your phone but I don't think that's real anyway. It's just spyware as far as I'm concerned.
p.s. (off-topic) Thanks @Dark3n I'm also a frequent SD Maid user btw and in case you happen to read this, I thought I might mention I intended to send a donation via your app the other day (i like to show love when ppl share badass works) but balked at the only available option for "pizza," not bc I don't appreciate it that much but I can afford a little every now and then. If you add a smaller option, "coffee" or beer or whatever, maybe even an outside of googlePlay option, BTC perhaps. I'd be happy to shoot a few dollars at you.

Your post couldn't be much more vague. Just move the files to your PC and keep them there as a backup for a few days. Case closed.
If you want help, then be more informative lol..
What types of files exactly?
But it seems your talking about your doownlods, well then delete the files you dont need? (downloaded)
Whenever I download and install a file, I delete it after, since Ive already used/installed it. (like applications etc)
Sense (at least I think it's Sense - maybe it's just Android in general cause I think it's happened with both HTC Mail and stock Android Email) has this annoying habit of saving every email attachment (including borders and other things that might be included in HTML formatted messages) in your Downloads folder. So even if you delete everything, next time your mail syncs most of it will probably be replaced
Edit: Maybe it's just HTC Mail that does it. I currently have the AOSP Google Email apk installed on a Sense ROM, just cleared the Download folder, resynced my mail, and it doesn't appear to have put all the BS back in there.
My advise would be get a bigger card if your worried about 16mbs.

16MB is hardly any considerable space, unless it were my first computer bought back in 1997 when having 32 MB RAM was considered luxury
Undelete
Welcome to the open beta of our newest root application - Undelete for Android, an application for root users that allows you
to recover deleted files on your SD card or internal storage.
Features:
- Fast scanning logic
- Restore any file that has not been written over
- Securely wipe/shred files
- Works with images, video, music, archives and binaries
Currently, only FAT is supported. On Tegra devices, only the external SD is supported.
We may write a special version supporting EXT4 if this app is successful.
Be warned: this is an early Beta build, provided "as is" with no support of any kind.
We take no responsibility for any issues that may arise from using the app. In some rare cases attempting to restore files may
corrupt the memory entirely (though we have not seen this problem, it is theoretically possible).
That said it has been in development for a while and well tested on the devices we have at the office - Incredible S, Nexus S,
Xoom, Transformer, Sensation, Galaxy S I/II, Galaxy Ace, Desire.
Market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete&feature=search_result
Screens:
You guys make nice apps!
Thanks. We are pretty awesome. And humble too
Really great idea! Looking forward to support for ext3 and ext4
For most people this will be enough. The only ones who will truly suffer will be those with no sd tablets like the galaxy tab family...
I myself build a variant of cm on ext4, but have no need to restore data from the internal memory.
Just took it for a spin and it found one file I deleted. It also showed an asec file. You might want to filter those out or have it for advanced users only.
I can see a need from some users to undelete from /data/app and /data/data. For example, an accidental app install. If you can tie the apk and deleted app data directory together, it would be even more convenient. I know some might have Titanium Backup but this would cover the cases where they don't or only have an older backup. Just an idea
Damn..I'm impressed. Keep up the good work.
One more question . Do you have plans to implement deeper recovery methods?
As mister morden told londo mollari - one thing at a time
Looking forward to it.
OK, you're going to hate me, but I have another suggestion . Since you opened a can of worms with file recovery some of your more paranoid users will want secure deletion (rewriting the file with junk data or 1s and 0s, etc) I think this would go pretty well in this app. So have a section for users to pick the file to be securely deleted and also give them an option to overwrite files that can be recovered.
doesn't seem to work for me,crashes every time I attempt to restore something
You'll have to be more specific. What file system are you using? What phone? Did you send logs?
Has anyone had problems? Lets get some feedback please!
No problems yet. I tried undeleting a few things and it has worked without a hitch.

I havent looked at the logs yet, have been avoiding work on my bday. However, there is no guarantee that a file can be recovered, sometimes the data is just corrupted.
If one file doesnt work, another will.
Any issues?

OK, you're going to hate me, but I have another suggestion . Since you opened a can of worms with file recovery some of your more paranoid users will want secure deletion (rewriting the file with junk data or 1s and 0s, etc) I think this would go pretty well in this app. So have a section for users to pick the file to be securely deleted and also give them an option to overwrite files that can be recovered.

There are already apps on the market that do this, look for SHRED, the typical name for this sort thing on PCs. I saw a few, although they all claim that due to journaling it will possibly not work.
Not sure what VFAT they're using, but the ones I know of don't journal So YMMV.
Indeed, deletion may not be right for this application...
I've seen countless threads on these 2 errors, but I just found something intriguing on my android device.
This one is a Measy U1A android stick (the ones that you connect to your TV via HDMI). A truly nice piece of hardware, but it seems to have some issues.
Since day 1 I can't install apps most of the time. Yes, *most* of the time. 80% I get the "Invalid Package file" error, another 10% of the time I get a "Package was not signed correctly", but curiously enough, a 10% of the time the packages go through and install correctly.
Of course, this gets on my nerves.
Now, I'd really want to know what's going on and I'd love some help from the true Android experts.
This is what I've already done:
Got a Log Viewer to see what was going on.
At first it said that was an error downloading (more on this later)
Then other times it said that there was no signature for X or Y file INSIDE the apk file (I remember some libraries, I was trying to install netflix on my tests)
So, I tried to tackle the download error by checking the space (df), I found that /data had few space remaining, so I cleared stuff from it. Now I have 308Mb free, more than enough to download Netflix (14Mb download). I'm talking about /data since I found out that the downloadfile-x.apk files get downloaded to /data/data/com.android.providers/downloads/cache
Tried again, nothing. Ok, so I thought that maybe there was some weird error in the /data partition. I created a directory on the sdcard portion of the stick and linked it (ln -s). Same issues. I created a directory on my external sd card and liked to it, and the same.
Now, for the weird part, and this is where I'd love some insight:
Out of 5 downloads, ES File Explorer got installed correctly, and I got a bunch of EQUALLY SIZED downloadfile-x.apk files on that directory, but NONE OF THEM HAS THE SAME MD5 SUM. Weird? Yep, but that could only mean 3 things: Either there's a problem with my wifi/network stack, or the /data, /sdcard, /mnt/extsd partitions ALL have errors in them. The 3rd option is that Perhaps Google signs every download with a different salt and that's the reason they are all different. But I DON'T THINK THE 3rd OPTION IS LOGICAL OR PRACTICAL.
Now, I don't have access to recovery here... well, I haven't tried but there's no obvious option, perhaps CWM but I don't want to risk it too much since it ran Ubuntu for a while and now that won't boot (that's another topic, unable to debug it since I can't see anything on the screen until it boots).
I've already tried:
1. Deleting Play Cache and Data, rebooting
2. Deleting Play and installing it again (it took several tries because of the same issue)
3. Factory Default and logging to my google account again
4. FIRMWARE UPGRADE (yes, I found a new firmware, it seems faster and more stable, but I still have that issue).
Now, I haven't found a memory checker or a "nand" (as you call it) checker on the app market, do these apps exist? I'd love to rule this out.
Thanks if anyone has another option, as I said, I'm out of them. The funny thing is that once the apps are installed THEY WORK FINE!!!!
Please help, I just can't spend 15 minutes to install each app that I want
I know my way around Linux, so don't be afraid to suggest crazy things :fingers-crossed:
*The only thing I still want to do is to be able to boot Linux again and perform some tests from there*
No one?

Mexico City here.
I found a firmware update, it makes the homepage icons bigger, changes the boot screen and overall feels faster. But I still have the same error.
As for the remote control, I found a vnc server that can be run on the dongle, and any vnc viewer can be used to control it.
I got a Rikkomagic III (not S, silly me), and let me say, that thing kicks the U1A over the window, performance is great but it has no bluetooth.
I'll keep trying to find a solution for my issue, as the Rikkomagic works fine.

That's the server. You need a VNC viewer for your phone

As of now there is only one app . Remodroid which works as per requirement
you can download it from play store. you need to install in both the Dongle and cellphone . it works well.but sluggish at times
I've been having this phone for a year, and I've finally had the guts to go ahead and root the phone. I now have super user application. I have also installed Link2sd and linked all the big apps to a separate ext2 partition in my SD.
My question is , now since I've rooted this, what all options are there for me to explore and try out, in making this phone better. I've seen about various Cyanogen Mods, CM 7, CM9, CM10. But they all seem to have some issues. But sometimes even simple issues may be blown out of proportion. I just need some feed back on how bad the issues are, or how good the mods are actually. Basically I want to know if the impact of these certain issues will hinder me in enjoying my android experience. And i couldn't think of a better place to put these questions to.
Summary:
1) What options are present to make my device better, now since I've rooted it?
2) What kind of serious issues are there with the CM versions, and whether i can enjoy the phone despite these.
PS: One more thing. in Link2SD , despite linking those Apps to the ext partition, the internal memory only has 75 MB left, and some portion of it is reduced everytime I install a new app. is it a bug, or I've done something wrong?
I was afraid of rooting first too, but now that I rooted it, it totally worth it. First, I installed hexgore's stock plus rom with some modifications and used it for almost a year, then I decided to try out cm9. It was a lot better, and had almost zero problems (everything was working except the front-facing camera). Yesterday I installed cm10, and it is even better than cm9 I recommend you to install cm 10.
For making your phone better, you can install One Power Guard, Total Commander (give it root permissions instead of java), Cache Cleaner and Super Backup. These are the rooted apps I use/have used in the past.
Your "problem" with link2SD is not a bug, it is how it is supposed to work. It links the apk, the dalvik-cache and the cache, but it does NOT link the app's private data, which then is stored on your phone's internal storage. And that is taking up space.
Have fun with your rooted chacha!
Thanks
Thanks for your suggestion, I have decided to give CM10 a shot. Now, can u please send some link of a guide to follow, in order to flash CM10 in my HTC ChaCha. Also, a guide to revert back to the current ROM in case I fall into some issue with CM10.
Also, I wanted to know, is there any improvement in the battery? Mine is a year old and lasts for about 11 hours max. Anything that can improve this would be of great help.
I had earlier gone through a post on modifying a system file with a # sign in front of a line which makes the battery better, but I was unable to figure out how to edit a system file(I've located it using Astro file manager).
And I cant post there, since the forum rules say that the user must be at least 10 posts old to post in the dev section.
Any help is deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Issue with backlight and prediction

Heyy!
I took ur advice and installed it, and there is almost no problem for me, I never use much of the front camera anyway. The thing is, the Keyboard backlight doesnt work when the brightness is on automatic. is there a work around?
Also, the prediction, as I mentioned in another thread, does not work good. there is no prediction as a matter of fact, no options come out for me to select.
One more thing is that I am unable to see a list of users to select from that and send messages to. I have to type in the name of each user and add it manually. Any work around or apps available to solve it?
