Hi everybody,
I've recently updated my HTC One S to 4.1.1 OTA from Fido and since then I've been having issues staying connected to 4G. Phone is completely stock, has never been rooted. A factory reset has already been done, as well as wiping the cache partition, with no results.
Monitoring the network strength using the network signal info app has shown that I'll be connected to edge, when forcing to HSPA it'll connect, get a signal of about -80 dbm at 4G, then slowly degrade to total signal loss. Switching back to HSPA/GSM will bring edge back at full strength. I've tried this in areas where I've been at full strength pre-update and can barely manage half strength post-update. Also of note, the radio version is reported as unknown.
If anybody has any ideas as to why this is happening and any possible solutions, they are greatly appreciated. Being next to speakers and having them go crazy because of the edge signal is something I don't miss one bit
Bumping this. Unfortunately I still have the problem and my carrier (Fido) says that everything is working properly on their end. Because I've rooted my phone and loaded TrickDroid I'm kind of SOL in the warranty department. I take it that trying a different rom would probably have no effect? In areas I know have good 3G reception, it'll either connect and slowly degrade to edge, or just won't connect at all
i have had this problem too and i have posting threads about this is NOONE has help.
hopefully someone will reply to this.

So you are rooted and unlocked?
What is you radio/baseband version?
Look it up in info or at the bootloader.
If you are unlocked, you can try flashin a different radio (previous one).

you can try a radio thats us/north america based.
use the temp radio installer in dev section.
1.15 works great on Fido.

Yes, they're owned by Rogers. My hboot is 2.15, do I use the temporary radio installer from this thread or the Sense v6?

I didn't. I tried flashing the radio and for whatever reason the flash said it was completed but my baseband/radio stayed the same as before. After flashing and restarting my phone would have 3G at idle and would switch to HSPA+ whenever there was network traffic. However it would revert back to edge after the phone went to sleep. If I kept the phone awake it would stay on 3G/HSPA+

If I change my CID to SuperCID and then flash the updated Europe RUU(I'm on Virgin Canada), will that screw up my radio, signal, performance? Or will it be like having the 2.3.4 update?
it will be like running the 2.3.4 update, but i recommend the latest WWE RUU (if available) i DID run the 1.45 europe with no problems, then flashed a new rom and was right as rain

I saw one RUU That said Europe 1.45 and one that said Europe LE 1.47. Any idea on which one is the better to use?
Also will I still get H+ or just H?

i still havent run teh latest 1.47, which i need to cuz i want to test the latest InsertCoin roms with peak performance and minimal issues...
i would assume that it would not cause any issues, and can always be rolled back by running an older update (no locked basebands, thankfully), but more than likely your phone performance will improve with the updated radio
Thanks a lot. I noticed I was only getting an H now instead of H+. I don't really have a data plan so I'm not to worried about it. It works better with the update. Thank you
It's because in the EU we don't have H+/4G - H is the highest icon you can get

So does that mean if I flashed the Tmous version. I wouldn't get any signal because T-Mobile uses AWS?

Hey Guys,
I purchased a new One S from T-Mobile and they sent me a phone that can't connect to 4g. I know that the problem is the phone, I attempted to get a replacement phone and they shipped it but gave me an excuse saying something about fraud and sent my phone back to the warehouse before I could even get it. But yet T-Mobile doesn't mind taking my $$$
So enough of that I called HTC and they want to take a look but I'll be 7-10 days with no phone. Any solution for this problem? My phone is stock and for some odd reason won't connect to anything but 2G I checked the APN settings and dabbled with that but to no avail I even factory reset and tried other sim cards no luck.
Any advice? I think I'll end up ending it to HTC but I'm trying to fix this on my own and a last resort send it to HTC for repair.

Yeah, that doesn't work. It's an issue with the 4.0.4 update. T-Mobile has been dragging their ass on a fix for it, I'm getting my 3rd replacement for the phone I've had less than 30 days at some point this week.
There's an official thread going on T-Mobile's support site...I'd post a link but it won't let me.
My One S has the same problem. Not rooted yet. I wonder If I root it if it will fix the issue. Anyone tried that?
If you run the 2.35 ruu it'll probably fix the issue you guys are having. Pretty sure.

If the 2.35 ruu does not work is there a 1.85 ruu which we all know it works fine? Sorry, it is just very frustrating.

If you're on 4.0.4 I'm pretty sure only the 2.35 ruu will restore your phone. And I think you'll have no more issues your having. I was having issues with data and wifi when I updated via ota. Ran the ruu and haven't had any problems since.

I will give it a try. Hopefully it works. I will be rooting it too. Do u suggest to flash the ruu, see if everything works fine and then root or just root and try it later?

ive looked and cant seem to find a flashable zip of the most recent tmo firmware. i found a nandroid but wifi didnt work. if someone knows where one is or can post one id appreciate it.
It's not going to work for you regardless. There is firmware you need included in update for Wi-Fi to work on that build.

very sad too cus my phone blows now.
2.21 runs great with awesome data speeds. I was on that for weeks till yesterday, giving this 2.35 a test drive. 2.31 gave me random reboots.

Hmm. So I was having even worse data/wifi issues after updating. Like I said the speed test app wouldn't work, wifi calling wouldn't work. So I found the newest ruu which is posted here in the [email protected] section, like 2.85 or whatever. Ran the ruu and I'm having zero issues. Something with taking the updates ota didn't agree with my phone. If you're having issues after the ota I'd suggest just running the ruu. Seems flawless now.

Yep same thing here. I am on T-Mobile but no 4g. More or less happened when I upgraded to the new Hboot 2.15. I have since downgraded with a RUU file. And installed newest venom Rom. But I can't connect faster than EDGE. I have read on the T-Mobile forums that people had this problem when upgrading to jellybean. It is a known problem, butan I wish there was a fix. It sucks.
So ?

Maybe I am missing something but the fix for "stuck on Edge" and not getting 4G is not there at the link you posted above.
to the OP of this thread - yes, this seems to be a known problem. I too lost my 4G when I upgraded from Stock (on my TMO HTC ONE S) to custom roms (4.1.2) - no matter what I did, I was never able to get 4g working. .. wish there was a fix for this but there isn't.....
Now.. I know that a different radio (not the one on my phone) gives you 4G - the trick is to find a flash for this particular radio and also (someone corrects me if i am wrong) but you gotta be S-OFF if you want to flash radio - I am not S-OFF so even if I find this radio (version : RADIO-1.11t.50.02.22) I won't be able to flash it... sucks...
Anyone knows / can post a link to where we can get this radio : RADIO-1.11t.50.02.22 ...

It has nothing to do with your recovery. Those icons are governed by your ROM, which ROM are you on?

I have CleanRom 7.0P1 and Yeah, I think the same but everything happened after update recovery reboot and appeared H signal
On at&t ROMs the 4g icon means you have H+ type signal, and 4g LTE means you have LTE signal. It's stupid, I know, because H+ is not in any way considered to be 4g but it's at&t doing what they do best and branding something incorrectly (at&t One X, anyone?). All sets of signal icons are actually present in every ROM though, there are (mostly) unknown factors which cause certain sets of icons to be active on certain ROMs and in certain situations. For some reason the American set of icons have become activated on your device. I thought that those icons were standard on Cleanrom though, I could have sworn they were present when I flashed it a while ago.
