[Q] Wifi/BT will not enable - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, guys, a friend of mine brought me a TF101 that hey bought secondhand and the wifi/bluetooth will not enable. After searching the forums as well as google I have seen that this problem is not unheard of. However, most of the posts that I have come across say to reflash the rom that was installed without wiping data before having updated and finding the wifi nonexistant. The problem is, I have no idea what rom was installed initially. The device has also been reset to factory a few times and multiple roms flashed in effort to resolve the problem, all to no avail. I have noticed looking at the nvflash.txt files that the MAC address doesn't follow the same as my TF101. It doesn't share the same prefix, is this normal? My TF101 has a F4:6D:04 prefix, his starts with 14. Also, looking in /sys/class/net there is no wlan0 folder. Not sure what other info I can give, but if there is anything needed just ask. Need some advice as to what I can do. Thanks in advance!

Settings - about - build
What is the entire build number?

Currently it is:
IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.27-20120615

Sounds like a ROM related issue. You can try flashing EOS4. I use previews and have no issues.

About the only 2 roms i havent tried is revolver and CM... tried eos and revolution... both to no avail... as well as 2 versions of honeycomb and 2 ICS updates... and i'm stumped lol
EDIT: I ran a device test app, assuming that it is correct. The hardware is fine so it appears that the problem is software based... still not having any luck though making any progress in getting the wifi/bt to turn on... whenever I attempt to turn on the wifi or bt, doing an lsmod it shows it attempting to load the driver but then fails to do so...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

Since I too have a TF101, if I installed the same rom on my friends tablet; could I copy over the wifi folders and change the mac address and it read and possibly work? If so, what files would I need to copy over?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

Looking at the logcat all it says is Failed to load Driver, DriverStateFailed... any ideas?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

Any ideas as to what i might be able to try? Or should I just tell my friend to RMA it back to ASUS and see if they can fix it? Probably at cost cause i'm sure it's out of warranty.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

I would use Odin and go back to stock or a root injected stock build. If the wifi comes up you can add recovery at a later time.
Odin will correctly format and get you back on track IMO.

I thought odin was for samsung devices not ASUS?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

Either way, I suggest the noob-proof Easy Flasher for all your back-to-stock needs.

I have used EasyFlasher and flashed 3-4 different stock roms and still the wifi/bt/gps will not enable... but the hardware tests fine
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2

If it doesn't even work with the stock Asus firmware, then I suspect it's hardware even though it "tests" fine.
One of the oldest tricks in the book when suspecting hardware is trying a linux livecd which most likely uses different drivers. On Android it's a bit complicated, but if you're willing to go all out to test, try installing Ubuntu as dualboot (not inside Android). It replaces your recovery with grub/linux kernel and boots into it instead of recovery. It uses a different set of drivers for pretty much everything, so if even in there it doesn't work then you can be sure it's the hardware. There a few threads expanding on x3's original one on how to dualboot ubuntu and lots of available help in those.

[Q] nvflash, blob, and getting back to tf101

Ok after trying the 3g disabler and the market fix, and flashing 3 different roms i was never able to get my transformer back to tf101 instead of tf101g. i was told i could use nvflash to do so but so far ive only ever used nvflash to unbrick. if i download the nvflashable version of prime will this be all that is needed to restore me back to tf101 or do i need to edit something before flashing?
you can use nvflash stock as it wipes everything and you dont have to use the version of prime the unbricking thread references you can use any nvflashable rom
understood
ok. i understand that part. i can flash the rom but what must be done to get back to tf101? i flashed prime using nvflash and still my tf is showing tf101g in about tablet. this is wrong and im looking for a fix.
build.prop
I have revolver 3.9.5 too, and giving a look to the build.prop file I see some rows that can be interesting:
"ro.pad.features.modem=true" (my last line of the file)
"3g.picasso=true" (a bit above)
I haven't tried to set those to "false" because I don't need that, but maybe it can somehow help.
also i just flashed earlier versions on prime but still no change... could really use some help with this.
if i install the stock rom from the asus website will would this restore my model number back to tf101 or would this cause problems coming from a rooted custom rom?
You could try the repacked stock ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947
Same here but repacked without the SU apk
http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/
ok i flashed the repacked stock rom and that took me back to tf101. so i flashed back to prime and back to tf101g. what is it about prime that changes the model number and why would it be setup that way. i want to use prime but i dont want to change wha ever maakes my tf101 show as a tf101g. can someone elaborate on what causes this and how to fix it.

That's really weird, I've been on Prime since 1.4 or so and never got that.
Yeah I know. It just started the other day when I flashed from are to prime.

Guys - even if it's an older version of Hneycomb in NVFlash format, it will still help...
Here is what I'd recommend (as it worked perfectly for me) - it 10 easy steps!
1. Download this stock Honeycomb image in NVFlash format. It's not the latest version of Honeycomb, but it really doesn't matter, becuase once you install and root it, you are just going to install CWM recovery and install a custom Honeycom ROM over top of it anyway (which IS based on the latest version of Honeycomb):
http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/tr...stock-3-2-recovery-roms-unbricking-tools.html
2. Download rootkit for above version of Honeycomb:
http://www.4shared.com/rar/-IYDraGZ/Brkroottoolkitv71.html?
3. Download CWM Recovery.
4. NVFlash the image downloaded in step 1.
5. Boot Honeycomb (skip all configurations!) and then root it using the rootkit downloaded in step 2.
6. After Honeycomb is rooted, install CWM Recovery downloaded in step 3.
7. Download Revolver 3.11 and 3.11.1 patch
8. Install Revolver 3.11 via CWM.
9. Install Revolver 3.11.1 patch via CWM.
10. Enjoy Honeycomb stability again!
Or something close to that....
EDIT: Added links to NVFlash'able ROM and root kit.
The problem with HC revolver was that it took to long to boot up. Prime ROM did not have the same problem.

Why is the boot-time such a big deal? I never reboot my device (at least now that I'm not on ICS anymore!), so the boot-time is almost meaningless...
I guess if you turn your device off every time you use it, that would be a pain.
Probably the reason that Revolver takes longer is becuase of what it's doing at boot-time (optimatizations, etc)...

If you are willing to root and flash custom roms, first try a custom ICS rom in combination with a custom kernel instead of going back to honeycomb.
A lot of people got good results by using guevor's latest kernel.
Yeah that's what I'm trying to decide cause I need my pad daily use with not to much reboota and sods

I have already rooted my TF and made ready for a custom rom, but it seems that there is a fix available
[Kernel] ICS test (OC, UV) (test13) V9.2.2.3
Between HC and ICS, I thing ICS is far better (except for the stability issues), so I will give this a shot first before downgrading to HC.
As per my question on this thread HC Revolver sounds as a choice to many XDA members, so plan B should be this one.
some issues
Is revolver more stable now? I could never get the vga adapter to work. or it simply not freezing. This was last november.
If you're willing to go through the trouble to downgrade, you may as well just flash guevors test kernel or the TastyMehIcs kernel (in my sig) to fix the ics problems. I've had no problems on ARHD/Megatron with tastymeh 1.0 at all.
Edit: just looked at my uptime (I don't ever turn off really) 232 hours since last turnoff. That's stable enough for me!
I wanna know what good HC ROMs are out there too.
SoD doesn't happen to me at all, but I'm sick of the graphical glitches that are present throughout the ICS ROMs. People say it's only when you press recents - not true for me. I get it pressing recents, browsing youtube, in the nvidia apps, playing games, sometimes at the home screen, settings menu, etc.
It's very brief, but at the frequency it occurs, it's annoying. I want to know if it's present in HC as well. When I was on HC I never noticed it, but my device was on HC for maybe a total of two hours, so idk. The screen rotation thing is kinda annoying to. You turn the device, screen goes black for like a second, then it does the rotation animation. Things like that bother me cause it's not like that on my phone, even when I run ICS on that and it's not even receiving an ICS update.

Be patient - we're beta testing a beta release now (.24) and it seems that the graphical glitches are fixed (I KNOW the recent-apps "diagonal tearing" is fixed at least) - I've never noticed any other glitches, to be honest...

Thanks for guide.
I just found out I have a b50, and tried NVFLASH of ICS... worked for maybe 2-3 hrs, thought there was hope... and now it just froze playing music.
If this thing cannot even play music without glitching, whats the point really at all?
If this HC downgrade (and stay there) doesn't work, I'm selling this ASAP.

[Q] TF300 not connecting to wifi

Okay so Im not that new with rooting androids or with using custom roms, so I'm not that much of a noob. The other day I decided since CM9 was in official nightlies I would give it a try. So I backed up my rom which was stock and rooted and I installed CM9 all through CWM recovery. Once in CM9 i notice the tablet wont connect to my phones tethering which is the only way I can get internet on it so I deciced to go back to my backup. But now on my backup the Wifi wont even turn on, anyideas why?
Hello,
I got exactly the same problem. I have installed CWM 5.5.0.4 and I tried CM9 nightly and return to Nandroid BackUp. Then no more wifi..
I tried to flash differents versions of stock kernels, but it was impossible to flash it : "Installation aborded"..
I used fastboot to install a new recovery : TWRP, but same problem : impossible to flash any kernels..
Does someone has the same problem? Or any idea to solve it?
Thank a lot !
Crystalyse
I also had another question...
is there any rom that will connect to Android tethering (ad-hoc)?
I was able to connect on stock rom rooted with cwm recovery but now every rom I tried so far wont connect to it.
Is there a way to work around this issue

+1 That's the fix (WPA_Spullicant2) that worked for me. My TF300 just kept saying "Saved" when trying to connect to ad-hoc. Replaced the WPA_Supplicant2 file and all is working well.
It's a known issue with wifi not working on stock rooted nandroid backups. If you go back to stock, you will need to follow the step in this post from Xplod.

[Q] Questions regarding the TF300TL

I got the Asus Transformer TF300TL, US model with the LTE support, for Christmas. It came with ICS, which I was not happy with having come from the regular TF300T with JB for the past 8 months. I had MAJOR lag issues, graphics problems and such. I kept searching the web at least once a week to see if there was any news on the TF300TL getting an upgrade to JB. Could not find anything. I even emailed Asus directly to find out if there was any chances later on down the line (the person that helped me knew nothing, telling me that I could use the WW build software with no problems. I knew this person just didn't understand but tried anyway, just in case. The tablet didn't even see the file.) Well, at the end of Feb, the TF300TL finally got the boot up to 4.1, which helped a bit but I'm still finding alot of lags, error messages about how the app that I'm trying to start is taking too long and would I like to wait and such. I successfully rooted the tablet tonight (without having to unlock the bootloader) via the motochopper tool (AMAZING and freaking FAST tool for getting root on ANY device, if you're looking for an easy way to root) and now I'm looking at possibly flashing some custom ROMs onto my tablet, in an effort to get rid of this lag and headache. I know there aren't many, if at all ANY, ROMs for the TF300TL and that I could possibly use ROMs built for the TF300T but I will lose my LTE capabilities. Does anyone know of a way that I can somehow get the LTE software from the stock ROM to be able to keep the LTE once on a regular TF300T ROM? I'll be honest, I don't really use the LTE much, since I'm usually around a wifi signal and I have my Nexus 4 that I can use as a hotspot while out and about, as well as 2 Virgin Mobile hotspots. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this tablet and getting anything other than stock running on it. Also, if I'm stuck with just the stock ROM, is there a way that I can flash TWRP recovery without unlocking or is that not possible? I've already tried twice tonight and it starts out good but then when it looks like it's writing the recovery to the recovery partition, it says "fail". Thanks!

install cleanrom inerhitance 3.4.6 (the newer cleanrom xenogenesis 4.x still dont support 300tg/tl) and

I've even tried some of the other kernels that are in his kernel installer tool but I get the same thing every time (no WiFi and no LTE, not even 2G/3G). I even tried just keeping the stock kernel. I've messaged the guy that developed the ROM so hopefully he'll have some info. In the meantime, I'm gonna reread the whole post again (all 200+ pages) to see if I missed anything.

[Q] PC won't recognize transformer

I've searched and searched throughout for a problem related exactly to mine and haven't been able to come up with much. Here goes: I flashed revolver 4 then flashed guevers kernel for OC capability since revolver parts is no longer working. Tablet works great and is super fast. However, I connected it to my PC for the first time since the flash to transfer some files and windows automatically searched for drivers. It picked up some acer abd driver automatically then automatically opened droid explorer (I probably downloaded this at some point). Also, the tablet will automatically check abd mode, without being prompted, when the usb is connected no matter how many times I uncheck it.
So I uninstalled droid explorer and uninstalled the acer abd driver and tried it again with the same result. I downloaded asus suite with the drivers to no avail. The PC will not take the asus drivers as the correct ones. It keeps searching out this acer abd driver. Now I'm thinking this problem is related to the kernel.
Any ideas whats going on here?
I'd start by either testing on another computer, or testing on the same computer with a different OS, like a Ubuntu LiveCD or something alike. If it works in linux then it's almost definitely a driver issue. If it still doesn't, I'd suspect the cable. Even if it charges, it may have issues with data. Try another USB port (from another controller if possible) on the computer also... you never know.
If it's caused or not by the kernel/rom I can't help there, never used those.
Today, I tried a different computer and it does the same thing. I flashed another kernel with no difference. I'm thinking it has to be the ROM. Tried to flash CM9 but it failed to flash for some reason. Still looking for suggestions on troubleshooting as I'm already way beyond my knowledge level at this point.
It was definitely something that had to do with revolver. Flashed revolution and am getting closer to resolution. Now I can connect with asus sync but my computer still doesn't see it in windows explorer. I've got the stock asus ROM and kernel. I may have to go back to completely stock as much as I hate to do it. I'm still open to suggestions though.

Thanks. I will try teameos 4 and see what happens. I knew my others were older but hey still seemed really popular. I have been trying to stay away from JB until Asus officially releases it.

They won't, TF101 is dead to them now, Custom is our way to stay updated now, not that it's a bad thing, ASUS stock ROMs were terrible
