[Q] nvflash, blob, and getting back to tf101 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok after trying the 3g disabler and the market fix, and flashing 3 different roms i was never able to get my transformer back to tf101 instead of tf101g. i was told i could use nvflash to do so but so far ive only ever used nvflash to unbrick. if i download the nvflashable version of prime will this be all that is needed to restore me back to tf101 or do i need to edit something before flashing?

you can use nvflash stock as it wipes everything and you dont have to use the version of prime the unbricking thread references you can use any nvflashable rom

understood
ok. i understand that part. i can flash the rom but what must be done to get back to tf101? i flashed prime using nvflash and still my tf is showing tf101g in about tablet. this is wrong and im looking for a fix.

build.prop
I have revolver 3.9.5 too, and giving a look to the build.prop file I see some rows that can be interesting:
"ro.pad.features.modem=true" (my last line of the file)
"3g.picasso=true" (a bit above)
I haven't tried to set those to "false" because I don't need that, but maybe it can somehow help.

also i just flashed earlier versions on prime but still no change... could really use some help with this.

if i install the stock rom from the asus website will would this restore my model number back to tf101 or would this cause problems coming from a rooted custom rom?

You could try the repacked stock ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947
Same here but repacked without the SU apk
http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/

ok i flashed the repacked stock rom and that took me back to tf101. so i flashed back to prime and back to tf101g. what is it about prime that changes the model number and why would it be setup that way. i want to use prime but i dont want to change wha ever maakes my tf101 show as a tf101g. can someone elaborate on what causes this and how to fix it.

That's really weird, I've been on Prime since 1.4 or so and never got that.

Yeah I know. It just started the other day when I flashed from are to prime.

[Q] Where can I find the stock kernel?

I just flashed back to stock from prime via my nandroid backup, but its still using the moobox kernel. Needless to say, certain things are a bit buggy. Do I just flash Eee_PAD_TF101_Kernel_Code_8_2_3_9.zip from the Asus site or do I need something else? Thanks!
I'm not getting impatient, but I am wondering why its not in a sticky. QQ
I would not flash 8.2.3.9 from the Asus site. I did 4days ago and I still haven't gotten the 8.2.3.13 OTA to get me to a stable build

No, I've already flashed back to 8.2.3.9 from Prime v1.3 (Based on 8.2.3.13). I'm looking for the stock kernel, not the update
did you ever get an answer?
i flashed the recovery-3.1.0.1-solarnz-R3-240511-1908, wiped data/recovery from clockwork, and even clicked the little tablet reset button is settings (ok i knew that wasnt gonna work).
everything looks stock, but the kernal is still different? any suggestions?
i got a hair under the LCD i jsut cant take anymore, and the charger 0BLF feels like 500 degrees when i charge. i dont want to here asus try to blame that on my kernal.... should i get rid of CWM and the kernal before i send it back? thanks in advance
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20870695/Transformer/Generic-kernel-signed.zip
Stock 3.1 kernel.
It's kernel not kernal. Your tablet needs to be 100.00% stock in order to be sent back to ASUS.
Didn't 8.4.4.11 include a new kernel? Anyone have that available?
haha. kernel. got it. its not made outta corn?
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-gf377a2b [email protected] #1
is that right now?
but my build number says:
HMJ37.prime_epad-1.5-20110626
i was gonna fix that using this method
http:
//dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF101/
Update_Launcher_SOP_WW.pdf
unless you have another suggestion?
should i delete any SU files on the root or do you think they will look that close for a hair under the LCD issue?
Wrong thread. Sorry

[Q] Asus Slider Stock Kernel

Hi,
im wondering if someone can help me out.
I made a nandroid and installed a custom rom with custom kernel (Krakd) all worked great and am still toying around with it and want to go back to stock kernel. I put back the nandroid but am still on the roach kernel i found out that the CWM still doesnt backup the boot but will in a future version which i found out too late. Is there anyone who can get me a zip for CWM so i can put back the stock kernel for 8.6.5.18 ? Its the WW SL101 i have.
Thanks in advance.

did you get the stock kernel? I need the stock kernel too...
Or known some custom rom version that have no problems with the slider.
I tried the Revolver 3.9.5 but It can boot on my slider...
Thank you!!!
Does anybody have the stock kernel for the ASUS Slider ICS?
I tried flashing a Transformer Cyangoenmod and then flashing the Slider Comparability ZIP on top of that but there are too many problems. So, I reinstalled the backup I made before this started, but my tablet still says it is on the Cyanogenmod kernel.
Does anybody have the stock kernel for the ASUS Slider for ICS, know where I can download it, or would be willing to compile it for me from the ASUS website?
Thank you!
Chris Williams
I'm going to bump my thread with a little updated info.
I tried to flash the latest Stock ROM from the ASUS website by installing it on the MicroSD card. It installed just fine but it did NOT overwrite/update the Kernel so it's still trying to use the Kernel written by cyanogenMOD for the Asus Transformer.
The source code for the ASUS Slider Kernel is available on the ASUS website. I don't have enough posts to directly link to it yet unfortunately.
I do not have the expertise to take the stock source code for the kernel and compile it into something I can flash onto my tablet through ClockworkMOD. Can I please beg/donate to somebody to compile this for me? It's been asked for a few times throughout different forums so I'm sure it would benefit more than just myself.
Thank you,
Chris Williams
If I have time today I'll dl and compile it, I'm sure its in a thread somewhere though.
Otherwise you can flash Guevor's kernel which works great with stock
Thanks Thing-O-Doom. I'll be happy to be back on the stock kernel since the stock ROM is pretty darn close to vanilla Android and by rooting I've got the few functions I do use that are "advanced."
Do you know if Guevor's kernel works with the ASUS Slider also or is it just for the Transformer?
Thanks,
Chris
Bumping my thread with updated info.
I was experiencing a booting problem where the tablet was booting into ClockworkMOD by default but I didn't think the problems were related... they were. Because upon reboot it was going directly into ClockworkMOD it was not allowing ANY new install process to work. I discovered this when I tried to flash Guevor's latest kernel and it STILL said CyanogenMOD. Imagine my surprise.
So, I got the booting problem corrected and sure enough the new kernel installed just fine and appears to be okay for the moment so I'm back to having a functioning tablet. Yay!
If somebody would still be willing to compile the stock ASUS Slider Kernel for me and post it I will gladly donate to them. While Guevor's kernel does work I would prefer to be back on the Stock Kernel designed specifically for the tablet.
Thank you,
Chris

[Q] TF300 not connecting to wifi

Okay so Im not that new with rooting androids or with using custom roms, so I'm not that much of a noob. The other day I decided since CM9 was in official nightlies I would give it a try. So I backed up my rom which was stock and rooted and I installed CM9 all through CWM recovery. Once in CM9 i notice the tablet wont connect to my phones tethering which is the only way I can get internet on it so I deciced to go back to my backup. But now on my backup the Wifi wont even turn on, anyideas why?
Hello,
I got exactly the same problem. I have installed CWM 5.5.0.4 and I tried CM9 nightly and return to Nandroid BackUp. Then no more wifi..
I tried to flash differents versions of stock kernels, but it was impossible to flash it : "Installation aborded"..
I used fastboot to install a new recovery : TWRP, but same problem : impossible to flash any kernels..
Does someone has the same problem? Or any idea to solve it?
Thank a lot !
Crystalyse
I also had another question...
is there any rom that will connect to Android tethering (ad-hoc)?
I was able to connect on stock rom rooted with cwm recovery but now every rom I tried so far wont connect to it.
Is there a way to work around this issue
I'm having similar problems, check this out:

Going to try when I get home but other users are reporting this working for them.

+1 That's the fix (WPA_Spullicant2) that worked for me. My TF300 just kept saying "Saved" when trying to connect to ad-hoc. Replaced the WPA_Supplicant2 file and all is working well.
It's a known issue with wifi not working on stock rooted nandroid backups. If you go back to stock, you will need to follow the step in this post from Xplod.

New, not sure what the status of my tablet is.

Hello,
I am very new to rooting and custom roms so i followed a guide to use cwm to try and root the tablet which didn't work. I was able to install cwm with no issues but when i tried to apply XpLoDWilD root-signed.zip file it would install but when I would reboot with cwm it would say that i would possibly lose root and give me an option to fix root which i would select and then the tablet would reboot and i would use a root check that would say i didn't have root. I wanted to use CWM backup feature before i did any custom roms but i was unable to get a successful backup with cwm. I used cwm to flash CleanRom Inheritance 3.03 onto the tablet and then used a root checker and finally got a successful root result but then i once again tried to backup my tablet using CWM and was unsuccessful again. So I want to know what will happen if I were to do a wipe data/factory reset within CWM or while I am booted into the android OS. I was able to do a titanium backup and copied the titanium backup folder to my mircosd card. Is there anything I need to watch out for or any other backup method i need to do on my tablet?
If you already have a Custom Recovery why the hack you want to stay on original Stock?
CleanRom is twice as good and Stock related, rooted and if you flash a kernel after even OC.
If you really like to root stock there is a superuser file somewere out here called Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed. This should do the trick. But as I wrote before with this you will have a VW Beatle with Clean you have a Porsche
I agree. Not flashing a custom rooted ROM is, IMO, a waste of a good tablet. I was amazed at the increase in performance after flashing the 2.54 version of Paranoid Android with the OCed Untermensch kernel.
I do like the custom cleanrom

I do want to keep my custom rom but was worried about making sure I have the os backed up properly in case i need to do a re-install or something. Is titanium backup enough to get me fully restored incase something happened to my tablet?

What steps did you take to OC your tablet? I installed Clemsyn's kernal 1.3-1.8Ghz OC kernal and used No frills CPU to play around with OC settings but haven't notice too much of a performance jump. I also made sure the asus was put in performance mode. Do you have any suggestions on roms, kernel, and no frills cpu settings i should use to get a good performance boost?
I'm running Paranoid Android v2.54 with a modified version Of Unters kernel that can be found in the first 2 posted of the thread. You must use the version That Keegan modified. Read the OP and second post to find the link to the kernel. The ROM has a built in performance settings that allows adjusting of the speed and I/O. I really like the ROM. It works great with my dock too. It has many extra settings that the other ROMs do not have. Read the thread well.
Here the link to it. Keep in mind that there is a beta version also. I am not running that version.

Correction..... The Untermensch kernel is located in the 3 post under EXTRAS, not the 2nd post.

[Q] Wifi/BT will not enable

Ok, guys, a friend of mine brought me a TF101 that hey bought secondhand and the wifi/bluetooth will not enable. After searching the forums as well as google I have seen that this problem is not unheard of. However, most of the posts that I have come across say to reflash the rom that was installed without wiping data before having updated and finding the wifi nonexistant. The problem is, I have no idea what rom was installed initially. The device has also been reset to factory a few times and multiple roms flashed in effort to resolve the problem, all to no avail. I have noticed looking at the nvflash.txt files that the MAC address doesn't follow the same as my TF101. It doesn't share the same prefix, is this normal? My TF101 has a F4:6D:04 prefix, his starts with 14. Also, looking in /sys/class/net there is no wlan0 folder. Not sure what other info I can give, but if there is anything needed just ask. Need some advice as to what I can do. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a ROM related issue. You can try flashing EOS4. I use previews and have no issues.
About the only 2 roms i havent tried is revolver and CM... tried eos and revolution... both to no avail... as well as 2 versions of honeycomb and 2 ICS updates... and i'm stumped lol
EDIT: I ran a device test app, assuming that it is correct. The hardware is fine so it appears that the problem is software based... still not having any luck though making any progress in getting the wifi/bt to turn on... whenever I attempt to turn on the wifi or bt, doing an lsmod it shows it attempting to load the driver but then fails to do so...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Since I too have a TF101, if I installed the same rom on my friends tablet; could I copy over the wifi folders and change the mac address and it read and possibly work? If so, what files would I need to copy over?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Looking at the logcat all it says is Failed to load Driver, DriverStateFailed... any ideas?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Any ideas as to what i might be able to try? Or should I just tell my friend to RMA it back to ASUS and see if they can fix it? Probably at cost cause i'm sure it's out of warranty.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
I would use Odin and go back to stock or a root injected stock build. If the wifi comes up you can add recovery at a later time.
Odin will correctly format and get you back on track IMO.
I thought odin was for samsung devices not ASUS?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
Either way, I suggest the noob-proof Easy Flasher for all your back-to-stock needs.
I have used EasyFlasher and flashed 3-4 different stock roms and still the wifi/bt/gps will not enable... but the hardware tests fine
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
If it doesn't even work with the stock Asus firmware, then I suspect it's hardware even though it "tests" fine.
One of the oldest tricks in the book when suspecting hardware is trying a linux livecd which most likely uses different drivers. On Android it's a bit complicated, but if you're willing to go all out to test, try installing Ubuntu as dualboot (not inside Android). It replaces your recovery with grub/linux kernel and boots into it instead of recovery. It uses a different set of drivers for pretty much everything, so if even in there it doesn't work then you can be sure it's the hardware. There a few threads expanding on x3's original one on how to dualboot ubuntu and lots of available help in those.
