Samsung galaxy Note 10.1 n8000 Howto extend 16gb internal memory with external micros - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys. I am strugleling for about 3 days to extend internal memory with microsdcard.
I have tried several possible solutions to make it work but still no results so I decided to ask for help from you guys here at xda.
I am very new in this Samsung Galaxy note 10.1 moding sector. I have some experience with hd2 moding but samsung way is different than Htc.
Current conf of my tablet is :
N8000 stock darkman deodexed 4.1.2 rooted and init.d enabled with universal init.d
16gb internal and 16gb microsd
So here is what I have tried since:
Link2sd didnt work for me. I have formated sdcard with ext4 filesystem but when I triet to configure link2sd it gave me an error that script wasnt created or my tablet dont support ext4 filesystem.
Then I have tried Super app2sd script from TweakerL . Script created folder on sdcard with scripts but even after reboot nothing changed. Apps are still installed on internal. Script didnt even mounted mount point.
Can somebody point me to right direction?

Here's how they did it in the N2 forum. Do a search over there. There might be other ways too.

We have in developement, stickied, a mod that allows you to, if you have a larger sd card, swap external memory to internal. Change a 16gb to a 64with a simple script.... You do need root though...

Actualy i only have 16gb class 10 microsd and swaping internal memory to external wont do big difference. Better solution would be to configure system like if internal run out of space then apps will be instaled to external microsd. Or just bind appdata to external sd. The bigest files are gamedata especially from gameloft and so on. I was trying to do it with bind directory app but it just refuses to bind gamedata. Can it be because of OS not allowing to write on external? Possibly because of init.d ?
Sent from my GT-N8000 using XDA Premium HD app

Ok so far I was finally able to use dirictory bind app properly. My internal memory is now freed from big game datas. Finally. But now I will need to move apps to sd. So far 10 gigs for apps is enought for now but I will see later. But at least big datas are now in microsd. It is sad that samsung didnt put ability in ther rom to move apps on sd. I have tried cyanogen mod nighty 4.2.1 which is very good i like concept of multi user but I am missing features from stock firmware that are not available in cmod. I hope that samsung will release update to 4.2.1 and multiuser feature will be the part of stock firmware and I hope that it will contain move app to sd feature aswell.

[FIX] use Apps2SD hack or Link2SD to solve the storage space problem in SGS4G

Some of you might now this well, if you had been through the older generation of the phones with very low internal storage space.
Apps2SD Script, Link2SD, and ... another lesser known flavor of App2SD have been used and still in use for a long time to make External SD cards as extended internal memory.
of course you'll need at least a Class 6 of better microSD to not feel the lag.
The great thing is the SGS4G as all its brothers/cousins models comes with its own 14 GB ~ 15 GB of internal storage space (SD card)
so when you use Apps2SD hard link script, or better yet Link2SD then it will by default use the Internal SD card as the memory extension
and you can still use the External SD to transfer stuff.
so even when you remove the External SD you wont disable the internal apps that are running.
the only IMPORTANT Rule to remember when you use this setup is to NOT USE the stock MOUNT USB
instead use the MULTI USB MOUNT or DUAL MOUNT both found in the android market.
that will prevent the Internal SD from being mounted as well, and causing the phone to reboot

pardon my ignorance, i am getting confused by "internal" and "external" SD, I believe the "internal" is the one that comes with the phone, which one is the "external" one?
external SD = microSD
internal SD = 15 GB of internal space
internal Storage = 1 GB of full bloatware with only 180-ish MB usable space
you will not see external unless you stick in a 16GB or 32GB microSD into the phone
I am confused how this helps Galaxy S 4G users? The Galaxy S 4G lacks the 16gb internal SD, that is the issue. It only has 1gb internal memory of which only ~300 megs appear to be available for app install/storage out of the box. I understand you can install your apps on the external 16gb (included) SD Card but that has always been the case. What am I missing here?
Yeah, I'm missing something here too. The Vibrant has the internal storage of ~16mb while the gs4g does not...

Thanks for the help. Even though as dcam and Seanathan mentioned. This Galaxy S 4G phone doesn't come with the Internal SD space like it's brother's have.
If I run out of memory again for apps I will try this out. I manually did the "Move to SD Card" for all the Apps I was able to do that for to get more memory under the Setting's options.
This may sound odd to some, but I prefer the setup with the memory for the S 4G. I actually still have the Vibrant & recently got the S4G, & just out of curiosity, I loaded the same exact apps to the S4G as I had on the Vibrant. Having the apps on the SD card has a tremendous effect on the performance than having them on the internals. There is of course the lag issue on the Vibrant, but the S4G just just kept on trucking, no lags. I even went a step further & pulled up google maps, you tube, media player & still didn't skip a beat. I tried that with the Vibrant & I had to restart...
What people are posting about devs being able to do with 1gb on memory is stupid. I have an hd2 with 1gb running cm7 on it. I still have about 600mb free on it. Of course I use apps2sd on it but that's just a personal preference. Devs will be able to do plenty once all the bloat and crapware is stripped from the 4g

yes, that is true
but the Apps2SD script hack, or the Link2SD still works with the External SD
if you use the Multi mount or Dual mount USB then you can access the files on the PC without breaking the connection internally for the phone apps
ironically that's one of the problem with the Nexus S, the lack of External SD support, and only 1GB of space, so everything needs to be moved to External SD, and be able to use it meanwhile you share file on the PC
has anyone tried to repartition with MiniTool Partition Wizard? after I resized the original partition, and tried to create a new partition, it gave an error messaging saying the new partition could not be created unless I delete all the partitions and re-create from scratch.

Just curious. Which one is better out of the two or can you use both in conjunction with each other? Also which App2SD do you use? There are a couple from different devs.

both can be used together
although the Link2SD is quite straight forward
you just need to repartition the SD card to have a linux EXT partition
then you can use either the ext2 or ext3 to mount it and use Link2SD to manage the apps as you would use the native Apps2SD supported by Froyo and newer AOS
unfortunately the Froyo method of Apps2SD only works if the developer of the apps enables it
but Link2SD will force even apps that are not natively apps2SD capable to run from SD
Cool. Thanks for the info. I tried using App2SD from the market but I don't think this is the same App2SD hack that you are referring to. It didn't really help me much at all. I'll try out Link2SD maybe some other time.
I ended up using Titanium Backup and did moved apps to SD. I was able to move the pre-installed apps to SD and also all the other apps that weren't able to move to sd originally.
for the Apps2SD hack to work and/or Link2SD
you will need to have an External SD formatted with a 2nd partition to ext2 for it to work
update
the latest version of Link2SD is FAT32 compatible
so now you no longer have to partition and format the External SD card to have a linux ext2 partition

I've found that some Linux systems have some speed penalty when writing to M$ filesystems. There have also been discussions about "aligning" FAT filesystems with flash blocks, such as http://www.patriotmemory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3696
Is there solid evidence about the relative speed of FAT32 vs. ext3 (or ext4) for the partition to be linked to?
I am so glad I found this thread! I've been pulling my hair out over this MAJOR design flaw of minimal app space on the Galaxy S 4G! I felt forced to root this wonderful phone just to have a chance at correcting the designers mistake. I thought I was going to have to wait for a ROM to be released.
I was at 50MB available space before this suggestion and now I have 188MB free! I used paragon partition manager and partitioned 350MB in ext3. That was more than enough, as I've only used about 170 MB of that space. Anyway, thanks all you great people!
How did you get TB to move pre-installed apps? Have tried that to no avail - thanks in advance.

[Q] Samsung Tab 2 Apps to External SD Card

Hi all,
I've just purchased a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 P3113 due to the fact that it has an external SD Card slot. I have found that I can not move any applications to the external card. This was one of the primary reasons I purchased the device. I have been using android devices for a while and my first Sony X10, was rooted and running custom roms within the first few weeks after I purchased it. In any case, I have read a number of threads, regarding this subject for the Tab 2 but I have not been able to have an installed app be moved to the external SD Card. Most post will say you have to root the device, (which I have) and use apps such as App2SD. I have even gone as far as loading a custom ROM, but no success. My last resort is to actually partition and repackage a ROM for an external 64GB SD Card and attempt to boot off of it so I will have more space. If anyone has truly been able to move an installed app to the external SD Card could you please point me in the right direction.
I would like some help on this too. But the silence is haunting.
Found this under a compilation thread that covers the 3113's and is down further on the same page in this forum.

I hope this helps and sorry for the re-re-re editing
AFAIK (and correct me if Im wrong veterans), is a defect of the OS not hardware. ICS and JB of the GT2's do not allow it as the internal memory is already labeled as sdcard. or that seems to be the prevailing opinion so far. I would like a work around but short of flashing a custom rom and/or kernel it seems unlikely to happen. Downside to that is some things don't work all the way in some roms. Ahh for the old days of my stock+ on my incredible. wait. Im still using it from back last summer and it works fine. TY wildstang!!
Dev
Hail Link2SD !!
Only way to move Apps to ExternalSD is using Link2SD for ICS / JB. I have done lot of research and there is no other way. However Link2SD does not move the data files and hence your internal memory will still be filled up as and when you install more apps but at slower rate.
If you want to install games like NFS-MW , Asphalt etc you have to use DirectoryBind tool to move the huge data files (More than 1.5 GB) to external card.
There is a nice tutorial how to use Link2SD here on the forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326).
You can use ext4 partition as i found ext2 and ext3 were not being recognized by Link2SD. Just a pointer.
PS: ICS and above no longer support moving apps to SD card. If i am wrong experts correct me.
root is your best bet. check this link, use the script and follow the directions. this script worked wonders. my tab thinks i have 32 gb internal and 4gb sd.

[Q] Apps 2 sd and directory bind question

OK here is my dilemma I have tried every method for transferring apps to SD and none of them work. I have tried partitioning SD w/Odin and cwm'I have tried directory bind but when I get to the point to select file I can't find it in directory bind - I have tried the titanium backup method in there help section, tried the ROM manager, tried link to SD and apps of that such,I tried flashing a mod that was sup post to trick my tab into thinking my extsd was my intsd e folder manager and script manager,I have been sorting thru hundreds of forums for about 2 weeks now with no success even following directions to a t or I get to a point they r and its different on mine than theirs. I have even tried 3 different ROMs. I'm kind of a noob at this so I must be doing something wrong. I don't know where else to turn for insufficient storage space andapps to SD fix lucky patch works but only for a short time. I have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 3113 w/32gb micro SD and am running chili mango ROM. Please help thank you in advance.
If you take a look at the structure, all you should have to do is unmount the regular sdcard directory and swp it with the exsdcard if i remember correctly. It will work until its restarted, i n which case you need the autorun program to automate the swapping on startup. This will essentially make your sd card the primary storage and the internal storage as secondary.
I hope that helps or gets you some direction.

I figure this is a good place to ask, I'm not sure if I should even bother opening a new thread. Has any one figured out how to swap the storage on 4.2.x? I ccan't figure out how to do it. The closest I was able to get was using a ext. Sdared partition and the link2sd app, but that method only produced limited results, compared to a full swap.

I'm not really familiar with that device but on most you can grab App2Sd from Google Play and it's self explanatory from there, but some devices (like mine) don't et you move apps to the SD Card, but you can move everything else there
And I'm no moderator, but I'm not so sure this isn't the right section for your question, I think it belongs in Q and A

After rooting you can use Directory Bind to link your internal/external storage, but that's not truly moving them to the SD Card, but I think it's the closest you can get. I don't bother with it, I just move all my big files to my SD Card so I have space for my APK's on my internal storage

Thank you sir for the help, I have succesfully rooted my phone throught that guide, though there was a little trouble geeting the Clock Work Mode Recovery but finally got it.
Sir can you tell me the actual usage of CWM, can i get backup of my present status through this mode or do i need to use some app like Titanium Backup pro for that purpose and what info would actually be backed up, like would it store info of the present firmware and is the backup point created in the internal memory or the sd card.
Also sir can you please tell me that if I swap my 32gb ext sd card with 4gb internal memory then when I want to get my phone back to normal mode then how am I gonna do so, I mean the sd card would have let's say some 25gb apps and I want to put the phone back to normal, I mean unswap it then how would it be possible as my internal memory would be only 4 gb, will I have to delete apps or use some recovery option, please make that clear, thank you sir for all your help.

[Q] move/run/install apps on sd galaxy tab 2 7.0

I am really new at this. I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) on it. I have successfully rooted it but am having issues with trying to run/install/move apps to sd card. I have tried many apps and they all seem to do one of two things. Either they just bring me back to the settings for the OS and applications where there is no move button or they "move" it right back onto the internal sd. I tried partitioning my sd card into 2 partitions (24 and 8) the 24 being Fat32 and the 8 being ext2 and using link2sd app. That gives me an error saying it cant run script and to try using fat32 for second partition. That also gives me an error which doesn't give any suggestions. I am really frustrated. I bought a 8 gig Galaxy tab 2 cause I was told at the store you could put apps on the sd which is obviously wrong. After the OS files and bloatware my 8 gigs is down to like 4.something... when some apps (like sims free play and asphalt7 are over a gig each that does not leave much room for apps. What is the best way to accomplish this?

The usable space for data is 4.59 I think ext 2 isn't really compatible with most kernels nowadays. Format the second part as ext 4. I did 4 gigs and that's good enough for two roms using kk's next dual boot. But I don't play many games on my tab 2 either.

Can someone help to solve this issue?
I already have tried some tricks I found here in the forums without luck
