Hello I want update my android version from 4.0.1 to latest my phone is att one x and firmware is 2.20 rooted.I don't want to install or flash any ROM just want to update android version. Additional info. My CID is SUPER CID because I changed it while root process. Another question do I get auto update? Thanks.
From what I understand there is great risk flashing the OTA when you're Cid is changed. You can try manually changing the Cid back and flashing.. I have not done this myself. May or may not work. I would wait for your rom of choice to incorporate the latest update changes..

The problem is that i have never flashed a ROM. Because I like sense interface. As far as I know due to the discussions on forum there is no
substitute for sense in aspect of camera. And there is always bugs on ROMs.
A majority of our roms are sense jb with no bugs at all ..go. check out viper xl or clean Rom jb or hatka or the other great roms we have
I'm using UrDroid JellyBean, which is as close to a stock JellyBean ROM as it gets. I'm not even sure he modified anything, to be honest.

i searched a bit but couldnt find a clear answer.. I read somewhere that when a dev posts a stock rooted rom based off an ota that it might not contain all the chipset and firmware updates that a ruu has.. just wondering what the main difference is between a ruu and an ota (other than obviously it comes over the air) and if its better to flash a ruu and root it rather than a pre rooted rom based on ota..
If I am correct it's that ruu is standalone full rom. Where ota is a addon for the 2.3.3 ROM.

thanks, but do you know if when a dev posts a stock rooted rom based on an ota if it contains all the upgrades and benefits that a ruu would

Most of them are based on the OTA as it was available before the ruu. I don't know if there is any difference between the quality.
anyone have any input? i was looking in insertcoin rom OP and noticed that the dev flashed the ruu and then wiped and flashed his own rom and now its faster
He re-did the ROM based on the full RUU as opposed to a patched 1.35 ROM with the OTA file applied. It's cleaner and should be better as a result
thank you, ok so if i just want to go back to stock would i be better off flashing the tmo us 2.3.4 ruu when its available or installing one of the 2.3.4 stock rooted roms that came out after the ota since they are based on the ota?
I'd flash the 1.29.531.2 RUU, then get the OTA files when presented with them
If you guys remember we got the sense 3 update leaked long before we expected it. I wonder if this will be the same for the ICS update. Anyone wonder if we will get a stable rom before the official release
It depends. We need people to leak the ruu

You won't get an official HTC OTA update on a rooted phone with a Custom ROM... and if somehow you do manage to get one while on a Sense ROM, DO NOT flash it... you'll end up in a bootloop.
As far as getting to use it, you'll get it on XDA much before people on stock ROMs (if history is anything to go by...). Hell, I think you might be running Sense 4 before HTC decides to give you Sense 3.6 officially.
Google search for details.

Yeah I think we will get 4.0 before 3.6!
I'm sure the RUU for the One V will be out before our RUU for ICS.
Can't wait

Is this possible? I've seen that the update is a .exe file. I'm already rooted and unlocked.

install a recovery. I recommend twrp. To get twrp install goo manager from the play store. After that if you want the pure stock experience without the headaches it can bring install the rooted 2.20 that scrosler posted in dev. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812459

So the rom comes 2.20? Wanted to keep clean Rom...so I have to choice.....any benefits to 2.20?

Nope. If you are happy with clean rom stick with it. 4.5 incorporates the changes that come with 2.20 and android 4.04.

Actually, this is 2.23 with AT&T bits blended in. It also has much of the bloatware removed. Scott has said there is practically no difference between 2.20 and 2.23 except the AT&T Stuff.
If you are still on 1.xx, it would recommend upgrading to 2.xx. The new ones are based on 4.0.4 and an updated Sense 4.0. It it much smoother, better multitasking and I get better battery life.
I would also suggest CleanROM 4.5 SE, since you will still have the stock experience and keep your unlocked bootloader and root.
You can do this without having to use the RUU, so it will be much easier.

Whoops what sounded like a success story ended in a brick story.
Lets wait and see if anyone can downgrade on their on accord without bricking before I put this back up.
Yeah, would be interesting to see if anyone does this and succeeds where I failed and see what procedural differences there were.

That sounds like you had some random cooked ROM on your phone and not one of the official HTC 3.17 updates that delivered official JB 4.1 to the One XL.
Some random cooked ROM can be changed whenever, there is no story in that.
A phone that has a full 3.17 update including updated firmwares like hboot 2.14 etc is an entirely different story.
Many many users are on official HTC 3.17(JB 4.1) which severely impacts their ability to customize things.
Many are looking for a downgrade path back to previous HTC builds from the 4.0.4 era.

So you are either talking about a JB RUU or a JB OTA right? You are not talking about any of the 3.17 Roms that are in development are you? Just not real clear according to what has been posted so far.

I doubt you have more than a backup of a few partitions(system, data etc) but not the other 30 or so. That is not a "full backup" and would not reverse this issue.
This problem is not caused by the Rom installed on system hence why this is not a simple thing to fix so far. That is why a user that did everything that was previously required to downgrade ended up with a permanently bricked phone that required replacing.
Phones will begin to ship with 3.17 and newer HTC builds everywhere soon enough. Sticking our heads in the sand and thinking this is only an issue to those that accept an ota is very short sighted.
Also HTC is updating firmware things on the phone that could potentially be benefitial to the phone that users avoiding newer ruu and ota will miss. Afaik the dsp firmware is the i/o controller of the phone and has been updated in all HTC updates so far, it is likely more important to the phones correct operation than the radio firmware but is never really mentioned on xda.
I have an HTC one X from Rogers.
I downloaded the 1st released version of the ViperXL rom then some time later it did an OTA update to 1.1.1 and it was the only update it did.
I want to update to the latest version but on the official rom page here there is no incremental update available from the version I currently have (1.1.1).
Could I get a link to do the incremental updates for the 1.x.x versions?
If this is not possible, I would do the full rom flash but I always have difficulties recovering from backups so I'd rather not go through that.
Also, tried installing the OTA update fix and I can't seem to install it from venom hub and from app installer.
you can't do that update because of it being a new base, if you want newer versions u need to do a full wipe.

oh well, then I'll check the tutorials on how to backup correctly and update to 3.0.0 preview, will I need to reflash again for the stable version or will that be OTA?
Ota is not working on 3 yet but you should be able to dirty flash it
