I am looking at both the HOX and the Skyrocket (aka Samsung S II LTE on Rogers). From what I've read, despite having similar specs, the HOX is superior. The obvious limitation is the lack of expandability. While for *most* users this wouldn't be much of an issue (use that Dropbox space!), I have my phones loaded with tons of medical references. Right now, I have ~7 GB of apps on my old HTC Sensation 4G. So, I'd like an opinion as to whether you think the HOX is a practical choice. I'd rather take a hit on performance than sacrifice apps!
Edit: When I say ~7 GB of apps, I do mean the apk + its data, not just apks only. Also, I'm definitely rooting whatever phone I get. I'm using AOKP on my Sensation right now and will probably do the same with the new one.
I have the skyrocket and the hoxl my skyrocket is half the phone the hoxl is if u need storage can't u get a 32gb version of hoxl?
My skyrocket has screen blobs on it and the sticky power button issue so ya two hardware problems on one phone bad deal get the hoxl and don't look back.

Rogers doesn't carry the 32 GB version, and I can't afford to buy one elsewhere.
This doesn't answer my question, though. As I said, I'd rather suffer some small annoyances than be unable to keep my vital references!
It's all up to you man... If the space is really that much of a bother get the skyrocket end of story
I have about 5gig of app w/data, but I don't store music and photos. I use Pandora and transfer photos to pc regularly. Have about 8 gigs extra space after my backup of Rom and downloads.

only you know what you can/can't live without. if your medical stuff requires more space than the phone has and you can't afford the 32gb version, then your decision has been made for you. I came to the HOX from Sensation and have managed just fine, but we all have different needs I guess.....
One thing about that picture I posted, I'm pretty sure 4 gbytes is taken up by "other" in the apps partition... Its reserved so you can't use it.

You get about 2gb for apps 10gb for storage and yea about 4gb for system stuff you can't really use.View attachment 1718684

if you note the 4th picture, see the logo is missing, looks fishy, but can never be sure
Why it doesn't have sense?
This really doesn't make sense, (pun unintended )
They only recently released the desire HD so why would they have a prototype of a second one already working, the name is strange and very unlikely to be named that, aswell as the fact it doesn't fit in with htc's recent designs (this one being plastic and shiny where as htc tend ti make theirs metal and interesting), on top of it obviously running stock android with no sense, and if it was an upgrade why remove one of the led flashes? And some more things
Sorry to be a downer on all this
definitely shopped
contrary to the specs, it's actually running AOSP FroYo. also, that actually looks more like that Motorola tablet which was announced the other day, not too sure though. the HTC logo is obviously photoshopped, i think on the moto tablet there is a verizon logo. either way, it looks really dodgy to me.
its a fake.
whyelse are the pictures well in common and then at the frame of the phone there are pixels and also on the pic with the HTC logo only pixels on the right top compare it to the left top. So why are we even talking about this bad fake pics?
Yea... its obviously fake, I mean the Desire Hd was realeased about 2 months ago, so there isn't much sense in releasing this so soon. Plus its not running sense, but that might just be because its an early version. Though that Htc logo almost definitley photoshopped.
I'm sorry if this has been discussed. Will AT&T ever get this device? If not where is the best place to purchase an unlocked GSM version of it? Thank You!
Pretty sure you could buy the AT&T version from Best Buy for ages now.

its not that bad of a question. If you live some place where Best Buy isn't or just ignore that inglorious box of blue stained diaper filler you'd not know that the i9020A was available there.
That said, having gone from a Captivate to a Nexus S myself, you might want to sit on your wallet for a bit and wait for the Galaxy Nexus to finally come to AT&T. I made the leap knowing that the captivate and nexus S are more or less the same hardware only because I knew the Galaxy Nexus was going to be uncomfortably large in my hands.
From an Android standpoint, a captivate with Cyanogen or some other AOSP based ROM will work and act like a Nexus S. Only real reason to move is if you want AOSP without having to work for it
The NS was never available at an AT&T store but only at Best Buy. This is why there is no AT&T branding as it really isn't a AT&T "supported" phone.

I was using my rogers HTC one X and was supprised to recently notice that i only have 688mb of total ram when using cpuz for android... also when i go into running apps, the sum of running and free ram space is 688mb. it should be 1gb. is mine a defective phone?
unfortunately my phone is the same, when they say 1gb, its just an estimation, you dont actually get 1000mb, you get either a bit less or a bit more i cant remember. As for how much RAM your phone is using, HTC is generally known for having very boaty software and even though sense 4.0 is supposed to be very lightweight, it doesnt seem to be :/ try getting a taskmanager app from google play, it may be able to help keep some of those pesky consuming apps closed though
Some of the 1GB is carved out for display address space and other drivers/hardware. Yes, it has 1GB, but not all of it's available to the OS for program execution, same as a desktop machine
I also have 688

A HD screen is bound to use more graphics memory than any SD screen. The missing RAM is reserved and used by GPU.
welcome to operating systems and hardware integration 101......how else did you expect to have pretty stuff drawn on the screen? magic?
ok thanks everyone. was unsure why they don't mention that there is memory allocated for the gpu in cpuz. thought total ram should say 1gb, like on a computer. makes sense though
I have this problem too
I have a ATT HTC One X

Do NOT do this! If you're going to use something to manage tasks, use a manual task killer, not an automated one. You will see a loss in performance with little to no increase in battery life. There have been lots of tests done regarding this here at XDA.
Also; Why are you people so worried about using your 1gb of ram? If it's there, why not use it? Worry about memory management when you're regularly running out.
Scooby Doo and the case of the missing RAM..... To the Mystery Machine gang!!
I do find it odd that the tegra 3 version was able to keep all 1gb though. Must be a similar design to the xbox 360 where it is dynamically shared between gpu and cpu. You would think the s4 would have the same ability...
There were a thousand posts back when the captivate came out wondering the same thing about its ram. Advertised as 512mb but only ~300mb in reality. (latest roms have 387 though) In that case a bunch of ram was reserved for the GPU and 720p video encoding/decoding. Probably the same situation here as others have said.

My HOX reports a total of 672Mb of Ram in task manager ,while it supposed to be 1Gb
I had a G SII before and i always had over 500Mb free
Now i have this phone its always below 200Mb using cleanrom 2.5
It makes me skittish because i used to have a Samsung Fascinate and when it dropped below 100Mb free it started having issues
Is there a trick to get the full advertised 1Gb like i had on the SII ???
The rest of the ram is reserved for system and gpu.
here we go again....
It's getting really old, we need to just link ahs(insert number) forums, when the HOX gets compared to then.

A sticky of frequently asked noob questions is not a bad idea. It still won't prevent all noobs from posting the same questions over and over (as some won't read the stickies anyway), but will prevent many of them.

Nothing will stop it. XDA Forums used to be a vast and bountiful place of information and knowledge. Now it has become a wasteland of dysfunction and redundancy.
I call it the "Noob Displacement"
I keed, I keed
So I just saw this article about the Vertu TI - that will cost approx $10,700.
Starts at 7,900 euros, or about $10,700
Specs:
TI a 3.7-inch touchscreen,
a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 processor,
and an 8-megapixel camera.
There’s also NFC and 64GB of internal storage, plus a front-facing webcam.
Clearly the reporters don't know much because they stated that it is Up-to-date with the OS running ICS
"Luckily, Vertu is mostly up-to-date on Google’s OS. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is installed and it’s smooth and speedy:"
According to reports " the TI is gorgeous, understated, and elegant, while remaining purposeful and unique"
Honestly I think it looks hideous. Esp with that price for the phone it better be made of gold.

I'd totally buy if i had the cash, and use it as a phone for leisure, would go well with my GS3, IMO.
Great to see a Vertu smartphone running a post-2010 OS, they were really being held back by Nokia and Symbian.
I think it is realy weird they don't use a propper Hardware for that amount of money and at least Android 4.1.x for a new Device

I agree. For the price, it seems to fall short on a lot of aspects. They should at least provide something worth the cash (equal to the specs of a mid-high end computer) rather then attempting to exploit people :/
Vertu again? Oh I remember those days when they modified and tried to sell some obscenely overpriced Nokia back in the days when nokia ruled.
Silly ... And by the way, this one here looks kinda ugly and those buttons look really cheap.
Wherever there is lots of money, bad taste isn't far behind...
