Lets say I live in the Philippines, and I want to flash the latest firmware for my phone BUT IT IS a RUSSIAN firmware. Is it OK and safe for me? Is my SIM Card gonna be affected? Or are there any other risks and downsides?
Another fast question, when the time comes that I will flash RUSSIAN FIRMWARE, is it gonna boot on Russian language by default? Can I change it?
Thanks.

I did on mine, I9070.. I does boot in Russian but you can change to english if you want, there are alot of languages there to chose from. I didn't have any issues with my sim card either..
Hope it helps.

Some firmwares have limited number of languages to choose from, but I guess most of them have english.
If you find a way to back up your current firmware before flashing a new one, that would be the safest I think,
I have a different phone than yours, but I had a dead phone after flashing firmware I was told was for my phone (but obviously wasnt).
I regret now that if I knew about the cwm recovery rom earlier I could have backed up my original rom and saved myself a lot of trouble to get it working again.

I read some questions like that on the internet..they say flashing from a different country can affect your MODEM. And signal sometimes..I want to verify if this is true or not..

If there are any hardware differences in the phone, like it's from att with some modifics done, I think flashing a different firmware can completely screw up your phone.

Firmware made for a specific region might have a different CSC code than your country. In some cases this is said can affect your radio services.
you can read more about it in this thread:

Hm..in my backups (used Titanium Backup) I have a file named CSC...so is it possible if I flash the RUSSIAN rom and restore my old CSC file?

I have this GT-I5800D. As I understand it, this is a Canadian only model that comes on a plethora of Canadian Networks such as Rogers and Telus.
I have managed to Root my phone with little hassle. My question however, is to use a different ROM do I have to unlock or do anything otherwise special to this phone to use my SIM?
Also, this will be my first attempt at doing anything like this with a cell phone so general pointers would be much appreciated.

No, just go ahead and flash a ROM but be warned that if a ROM is not according to your area, in your case Canada, then you may not be able to make calls etc. I think. Go onto samfirmware and you can find your regional ROM.

You should maybe flash a custom kernel so you can backup your current rom so you can restore it if you are facing problems like not being able to make calls as mentiones by Smonic earlier. Or you can download a stock rom from sammobile.com and have it ready in case you cant make calls etc. I'll pm you the exact link if you need it.

by the way, it doesnt have the spanish lang.
will be having Portuguese language of Brazil in this rom?
Any way to get just the modem and that doesn't require flashing the whole rom?
yes, you can flash only the modem.. just find my other post in this section.. there i put the modem.bin for flashing with odin.
and for portuguese, flash any rom with that lang and then flash the modem.bin on the phone section of odin . that will do the job.

I'm sorry for being slow about this.
But, I have rooted my P6200L and installed the busybox. Then one day buSybox updated and messed with my superuser and wifi settings, seems like the only way to recover from this is by flashing a new rom and I can't find any other rom like the one my P6200L uses (Baseband version: P6200LVJKL4 | Build number:HT85B.VJLA3 P6200LVJLA3).
So, is it possible to flash using only this file? Or do I need all the PIT, BOOTLOADER, PDA, PHONE and CSC files?
And, sorry again, but this file goes to PHONE, right?

As I said lots of time, only XXKL7 (better EUKL1XXKL7 builds) has a whole language pack instead of other builds. I'm about to get it fixed by export EU language pack from EUKL7 and let we all install 'em maybe by recovery
So even people from Italy, Spain, German, France etc (where Euro crisis is killing us ) can flash ROMs from other builds and get their own language pack

Well don't let that Tab fall asleep either. Not sure what the region code is with the one from Amazon. It could be Cellular South, from Singapore, or that XAC region which is listed as N/A. Maybe by N/A Samsung is calling it unbranded. Do you remember anything dealing with branding on yours? Any info on the box?

I think I still have the box. I'll look for it tomorrow. In the meantime I did get a completed download from hotfile but it must have been corrupted. It failed the install. I'll see if I can get it on the pc tomorrow.

also in regards to the zap blaster rom, i think its terrible... nothing beats the UI in 4.2.2 .... if the IR capabilities is what you are after go here and try this rom http://d-h.st/OTW its cyanogenmod 10.1 .... its not official but does have a working IR blaster. just a few minor bugs you can fix on your own.
anyways hope this helps
Did you install that hotfile with odin? First you uncompress the zip to find a md5 file inside. You install that md5 file with odin.

Use CF Auto Root to root your phone, read the instructions carefully!
Updated to latest MG5 update.
Changes I felt so far:
- Phone feels faster.
- More free RAM (Screenshot attached, after normal usage and no clearing of memory).
- Camera opens faster.
- Weather widget still get cleared but it comes back instantly.
Been running EE EVR MG7 for about a week and I've noticed that when it goes into sleep - WIFI disconnects.
This means it uses up my 4G data when the screen is not on. It does reconnect when the screen comes on though.
Anyone else experienced the same? A friend of mine moved up to DBT MGA and said he got the same thing (for some reason one of the programs killed 1Gb of data in one night lol!)
Was thinking of moving to BTU MGA if its any different? thanks in advance.

Do not own this phone, so the answer may vary.
But afaik, Android defaults to cellular connection in sleep. There is an option in your wifi settings which allows you to select "wifi-connected" during sleep.
Search around in wifi and network related settings.
Switch it to "never"

The best way to find out is probably to read the thread, or at least the first post and the last load of recent pages. From what I have read/seen it seems to be very good and certainly usable for daily use. I don't think you should accept (or even receive) any OTA updates. As its essentially a custom ROM its probably safer to let the developer create a new update to flash. I have downloaded the 4.2.2 version but haven't installed it just yet, been hanging on for a new 4.3 version.
