T-Mobile SIM? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have an unlocked ATT HTC one x and a T-Mobile sim. Can I get hspa+? When I put in the T-Mobile sim I can only get edge.

If it shows 3G in your area then yes. Tmobile is rolling out more and more everyday, so check often.

You need the right apn settings and possibly the older sim card as well as being in a 3g area on that website. Plus its still not as reliable as a true T-Mobile phones data.

I'm run the One X in SD, Tmobile SIM and H+ coverage in most places.

To clarify, T-Mobile has been using the 1700/2100 MHz AWS band for HSPA+, which is not compatible with the AT&T One X.
However, T-Mobile has been rolling out HSPA+ on the 1900 MHz HSPA+ band in some areas (with more coming), for the express purpose of getting people to switch from AT&T and letting them keep their AT&T phones. 1900 MHz is one of the bands used by AT&T for 3G/HSPA+, so if T-Mobile has HSPA+ on that frequency in your area, then you will have HSPA+ on your phone. Otherwise you are stuck with EDGE data.

What is the current radio you are using and have you have tried any others? Central, North, East, or South San Diego if you don't mind sharing?

Unlocked ChaCha on Tmobile US data problem

I have an unlocked ChaCha that i am using to replace one of my HD2's (one running WM7 dual booted with Android 2.3.3, and one im replacing is strictly Android 2.2)
Anyway i have this ChaCha unlocked and popped my sim card in and everythign works fine except even after putting the different APN's out there for Tmobile US, im still only connecting to Edge (at least thats waht it says in the data connection area in the status bar)
i tried doing a Mobile Connection Test and i got results in the 3g range..however downloading skype from android market took a few minutes, where as skype 9meg file on my HD2 took secodns, so im confused.
Any help would be appreciated. If i confused anyone please let me know and i can clarify because i really need to figure out whats going on
That's all you can get. EDGE speed is your fastest. The radio can't get the 2100 band necessary for t-mobile 3g.

ouch good to know. guess im going to sell this thing then and get something else lol kind of a big disappointment.
its funny because ive seen screen shots of the phone with a 3G or H logo in the data connection spot on status bar. not very familiar with how the bands work with Tmobile and ATT but i would imagine they are a bit different even tho similar.
anyway thanks. still kind of shocked about it.

Yes, exactly. T-mobile sim wants to connect to 1700/2100 (it needs both simultaniously) to get 3g/H, but the phone doesn't have those frequencies, so it connects using the 2g bands, and only gets EDGE data speed.
I unlocked mine, and use my t-mobile sim. I like the keyboard a lot, and don't do much data intensive stuff, just email and facebook. EDGE is fast enough for those apps.

The phone has those frequencies. I have posted the phone specs from the HTC site. Also present on GSMArena and in the user Manual.
I don't see 1700 listed anywhere. The radio of all t-mobile phones work the same way: one direction the data rides on the 2100 band, the other direction the data rides on the 1700 band. If the 1700 band is not present, no 3g/H connection.
The GSM bands are not broadband data bands.
If the frequencies are present like you insist, then why can't the at&t unlocked version get 3g/H with a t-mobile sim?
True Fix
Hey Everyone, after ridiculous amounts of fiddling around and figuring stuff out I got it. Got MMS to work and internet simultaneously without any WIFI connected for an HTC Status on the T-Mobile network. I ended up just combining a couple APNs together and slowly troubleshooting and entering and deleting. GOT IT! Internet and MMS all works. Feels good to figure that out! Hope this helps anyone who might need it. Not sure if anyone cares by this time, but thought I might post this anyways.

How to know if the phone is in LTE mode?

Hey guys,
When browsing, and it says 4G on the Rogers One X...is that LTE? Mine always says 4G, but NEVER said LTE..any ideas how to find out if it's using LTE?
When I go to phone status, and network status, it shows HSPA or HSPA+...
i believe it says 4G then lte right under it
your probably on hspa+ ?
When on LTE, it will say LTE.
When on HSPA+, it will say 4G.
The Rogers LTE network is still extremely small, so you might not be in a serviced area. You can check their map here: http://www.rogerslte.com/lte-in-your-area

hkalltheway iam having the same issue as you! They actually replaced my device and gave me a new htc one x, switched my sim card twice and have escalated my problem to senior tech support. APN is correct, lte is on auto. I even tried forcing it into lte by going into the phone menu by pressing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting LTE only.
My plan is lte as the last 2 phones i have had were lte (sgs 2 lte & raider). They both never had an issue receiving an lte signal. I'm close to downtown toronto so im in an area where the LTE signal is strong.
I'm wondering if you are having the same issue as me. At least it seems like it. Call rogers and have them open up a case. It has been a week and they still haven't fixed the issue.
did you have an lte phone prior to the one x?

I agree with a few of the others. If you're using LTE, it will actually say LTE in the Notification Bar, right above the signal strength bars.
If it says 4G, then you're only on HSPA+.
If you're not getting the LTE to display, and you ARE in an LTE area, then I would definitely call Rogers and have this issue resolved.
Peter
I'm having a similar issue unfortunately, albeit mine is with Bell. I've unlocked the device and purchased an LTE sim card and in multiple LTE service areas with only 4G connectivity. Speed tests are in the 6-10mb speeds for HSPA.
Curious if this is an issue with the phone as others are having problems too.

I was having the same problem with my Rogers account and it turned out it was an issue with the account not my device. In my case they added the LTE to my account but it is incompatible with older data plans in my case I have the 6GB for $30.00. They have since told me that in order to get the service to work I need to update to an LTE data plan which I really don't want to do as it will cost double what I am paying now hahaha so I think I will live with the 6-10mbps I am getting now

Actually, Rogers routinely comes out with DATA plan deals. I have 10GB for $50, which also comes out every so often. The more common "6GB for $30" is offered frequently.
Yes, it's true that you need not just an LTE SIM card, but to have your account set up for access to their LTE network. I just didn't realize it costs more. It didn't cost me more.
Peter
Addendum: My plan, 10GB data, 200 minutes talk, and unlimited Texts in/out is about $83 per month.

The information I have is there isn't a specific LTE APN similar to Rogers. I'm using pda.bell.ca as my APN. I'm mainly curious if Bell requires a specific LTE data plan or other activation parameters to connect. The people I've spoken to states that this is not required.
If anyone is wondering, I'm on Telus' Flex 60 plan (older plan from before they had LTE) and I did not need to make any changes to my account.
LTE worked off the bat with the standard Telus APN. Although Bell/Telus LTE coverage around here is spotty, I'm just outside their LTE zone on the map.

Does this unlocked LG G2 from Expansys work with AT&T LTE?

It says D802 right on the page, so use that to see how it'll work on ATT.
Don't think D802 will work well on AT&T.. Doesn't have the 700MHz frequency which is the main LTE one on AT&T.. Should have no issues at all on T Mobile LTE..

If you aren't hung up on new, check out your local craigslist for a Verizon branded G2. They are usually listed pretty cheap where I am at (in the $225-325 range on average in excellent condition). They are unlocked, you can flash AT&T firmware on it, LTE works and best of all it has wireless charging built in as a bonus. I have been very happy with mine.
It says under Technical Details:
Network: 4G: 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz / 3G: 850/900/1900/2100 MHz / GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
So on AT&T you'll get 3G only. It's missing the 700 (primarily) and 1700 MHz (a few markets) bands for 4G.
On T-Mobile you'd get 2G and 3G only where T-Mobile has refarmed the 1700 MHz spectrum for LTE and moved the 3G to 1900 MHz.
I have a Net10 sim which runs on the AT&T network and I have HSPA+ only, no LTE, which is good enough for me

[Q] AT&T LTE on Verizon model?

I used this same data in another thread, figured it might be useful here. Basically, you'd potentially restrict yourself a great deal by using a Verizon M8 on AT&T's network.
I think we need to know what’s theoretically possible with these phones first. Here is what the Verizon M8 has the ability to use:
3G (GSM): 850/900/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps
LTE: 700/AWS/1800/2600 MHz
Click to collapse
Source: M8 spec page
As it currently stands, these are the 3G and LTE frequencies for AT&T:
3G: 850/1900 MHz up to 21 Mbps
LTE: 700/AWS/1900/2300 MHz
Click to collapse
Sources:
List of LTE networks - Wikipedia
AT&T Mobility - Wikipedia
What this means is that the Verizon M8 would only be able to use AT&T's 3G up to 14.4 Mbps and not the full 21 Mbps (probably not a big deal). However, for LTE, it could only access 700 MHz and AWS, so you'd be out of luck if you're in an area that only has 1900 or 2300 MHz.
Again, this is all theoretical since it’s not totally easy to get a carrier-specific model to run LTE on another network, but someone had luck getting a Verizon model to run on T-Mobile’s network: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710720

what bands, specifically, did you enable?
Bands 2, 4, 5 and 17. I'm located in the Raleigh Durham area of NC. When it was connected to LTE I used the LTE discovery app and confirmed the uplink and downlink freqs. 1900/2100 if memory serves me correctly.
Currently using the VZW M8 on Cricket. I'm getting HSDPA but no LTE.
But I have no complaints. Phone is awesome and mobile data is working flawlessly.
Yes it's radio related. Verizon and ATT do not use all the same frequencies and bands.

Hi,
I tried to read any info about it. But I don't know....
Here is my theory: The Google Play edition (GPe) is open to any LTE channels. I know that you can turn the verizon M8 into GPe M8... (I don't know if the phone can operate on Verizon after all :S )
So hopefully that can work, but I NEVER TRIED IT!
So If some GURU can help us that would be grate. And also a "How to" -from the very beginning ( Stock rom, s-on, non rooted, etc) would be nice too.
Thank you
Ps.: I was only modifying Samsung, Sony, Motorola, Zte before. This HTC "magic" is totally new for me

Most of the ATT guys are clueless, not matter they are in store or over the phone. Just ignore them.
All you need is get an att nano sim card, put it in your verizon m8. Boom! You could text and call now!
And then you need to edit APN settings to get data working. Go to settings, Mobile data, Network settings, GCM/UMTS Options, Access point names, and add a new APN:
Name ATT Phone
APN phone
Proxy Not set
Port Not set
Username Not set
Password Not set
Server Not set
MMSC http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port 80
MCC 310
MNC 410
Authentication Type None
APN type default,mms,supl,hipri
APN protocol IPv4
Bearer Unspecified
save this APN and select it to use. Wait 30 sec to 1 minutes, Boom, you would have H+ or 4G LTE depending your location. For most area you would get H+.
You don't even need to root !
im on edge slow slow slow
I get HSPA+ on my stock M8. My APN is "phone"
I have GoPhone account with AT&T and I get LTE in some areas, nothing done to my phone, stock Verizon m8, apn set to nxtgenphone , I get HSPA most of the time, but I do get LTE in some locations here
