[Q] SD-Ext 4 not working on hTc Explorer - HTC Pico (Explorer)

I'm new to the XDA Forum so please pardon me if I ask too many stupid questions. I have an hTc Explorer which was running Explode^1. Then I wanted to run Sense 4 but it needed an EXT-4 partition. I used MIni-Tool Partition Wizard to do so, but my phone refuses to read EXT partitions. Its running FAT32 perfectly. I tried this with 3 different SD cards (all class 4's) and the problem persists. Can anybody help me please?

How ua makin partitions thru recovery or mini tool ??
Typing in swift key3 from tiny explorer with ICS

I tried them both. With mini tool, it says that the SD card can't be mounted. When.I do it via recovery, then there's an EXT 3 and a fat 32 partition made.

Is it by Yannou90?.. If yes, i think it supports ext3...and go to advanced>Partition sd card to make an ext3 partition...
If it is not, then flash CWM recovery by yannou90 or TWRP 2.2
CWM is buugy...it won't detect your sd-ext..

Tried both

Round and round in circles and never getting an ext partition to mount .. only got it once, and that failed on boot using a different ROM which installed directly into sd-ext
Any ideas ?

What's your partition size? Make a fat32 partition and an ext partition. Note: the ext partition should NOT exceed 2gb as it cannot be read in most cases then. My issue was solved by reducing partition size.

follow this steps from here:
2. Prepare your SD card, using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition,
a. move all existing data on the SD Card to your PC and delete all files from it. RESIZE your existing FAT32 partition to a size where your unallocated space is at least 1GB but not more than 2GB.
b. Create a new ext4 Primary partition using all the unallocated space.
c. Apply changes
(I've written RESIZE in CAPS because when I tried deleting and creating the FAT32 and ext4, my phone didn't recognize the formatting as valid. So I allowed the phone to reformat the sd card and then did it using resize FAT32 instead)

You might be able to use any of the gazillion partitioning tools available for Windows. Minitool, Easeus Partition Manager, and all the likes give you the options of converting the partitions (directly) to ext4, too. But, since ext partitions are evolved around Linux, Gparted, and its likes, could handle the Partitioning and converting (directly) job better.

If you are on Stock then maybe FAT32 partition may have worked.. or even otherwise maybe it will work,.. haven't used a FAT32 sd partition since JaggyROM 2.x.x ( obviously my 1st partition is fat32 ) ... My second partition is an ext and it is advisable to have an ext partition cause there are many scripts like int2ext , s2e, etc which work well with an ext partition...
A partition is Not necessary to made in order for other ROMs to work.. They will work just as well without a partition .. only thing is your internal memory will remain to be 150 mb.. Which is the memory allocated in our phone's nand..
NOTE: Sense 4.0a is the only ROM that you necessarily need to have an SD-EXT Partition of at least 1 GB. Otherwise it won't boot.

do it through mini partition tool..delete the created partition..now right click on the 1st partition..slect extend..n drag the cursor till end...n click apply...done
Use Other Kernel
The reason for your second partition is not recognized is you may be at Stock Rom and Stock kernel....
Stock kernel do not support ext partitions...
Use ateeq kernel or cranium kernel for ext4 partition support....
Also use Mounts2sd instead of link2sd...!!!!

3. Instal link2sd app from playstore.
4. Select Fat32
5. Reboot phone .

For this you don't need s-off (which anyway you can't do). Just use recovery (you already have that) and create partition. If you are using cwm, in advanced menu there is option 'repartition sd card', just follow the steps, and remember this will erase all your info from the sd, so it's better to back that up. Also you can create partition using pc with "mini tool partition wizard" google it. Another thing don't make ext partition bigger than 2GB and don't create swap partition.
That's it. Have fun
Edit: @Saumitra Yadav- damn you are fast , but what you explayned is........ why create another partition, sd card is already fat partitioned? (Maybe I'm wrong but I think link2sd also works with ext)
Edit2: Yes it needs second partition which can be fat32, but it also can be ext, so just make ext

That's it. Have fun
@Saumitra Yadav- damn you are fast , but what you explayned is........ why create another partition, sd card is already fat partitioned? (Maybe I'm wrong but I think link2sd also works with ext)

Using cwm the partition created is ext3 which cannot be mounted on stock Rom .. so create a Fat32 using minitool partition wizard

first time in your post, I saw op's cm10, and forgot that possibility that actually stock rom doesn't support ext.
There was very long time ago when my phone haded stock rom.
already tried creating it...get an error saying that mount script cannot be created.
link2sd faq quote :
Q. I get "Mount script cannot be created. cannot create /system/etc/install-recovery.sh: not enough memory" error.
Some HTC devices are "NAND locked". On "NAND locked" (or "S-ON") devices the /system partition is write-protected by the bootloader and thus cannot be modified even if you have root privileges.
In order to use Link2SD you need to do "S-OFF" to disable this NAND lock. (a.k.a. "NAND unlock" or "unlocking the bootloader")

Edit2: Yes it needs second partition which can be fat32, but it also can be ext, so just make ext

Its not your fault. What i can understand, is that the CM10 rom you are using, most probably doesnt support MEM Script.... You need a ROM that has init.d and Busybox support... Check if it has or not!!!
Press THANKS if it helped!!!:good:
Download pimp my rom from play store
Using it get init.d support if rom has
Then use m2sd(no config needed)
Then reboot twice
Hit thanks if helped
