Change the recovery. You must be using CWM. Try TWRP. Works wonderfully.

follow this steps from here:
2. Prepare your SD card, using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition,
a. move all existing data on the SD Card to your PC and delete all files from it. RESIZE your existing FAT32 partition to a size where your unallocated space is at least 1GB but not more than 2GB.
b. Create a new ext4 Primary partition using all the unallocated space.
c. Apply changes
(I've written RESIZE in CAPS because when I tried deleting and creating the FAT32 and ext4, my phone didn't recognize the formatting as valid. So I allowed the phone to reformat the sd card and then did it using resize FAT32 instead)

There's no need to create swap partition on our pico/explorer, just go to your recovery a.k.a. CWM/TWRP and format the sd card by selecting appropriate sd-ext size as needed and then keep the swap partition as 0M... simple.
Or you can use mini tool partition wizard to do that too. there are tons of tutorials present on XDA just search for them.,
I want to make games run faster .. so I need to make a swap partition

Backup sdcard on pc. Goto recovery(yannous recovery recommended),advanced, create partition, select ext4(I guess u need to boot sense, it will work fine). Sdcard will be formatted and partitions will be created. Even though you would have selected ext4 in computer sdcard will be read as ext3.
Hope this helps.

I don't know about TWRP 2.4.
I use TWRP 2.2, and the partition creation option gives you options about choosing the ext size, swap size and the file system.

You might be able to use any of the gazillion partitioning tools available for Windows. Minitool, Easeus Partition Manager, and all the likes give you the options of converting the partitions (directly) to ext4, too. But, since ext partitions are evolved around Linux, Gparted, and its likes, could handle the Partitioning and converting (directly) job better.
