Before I start writing, I want to note that I do NOT have the T-Mobile G2X. I am still deciding whether I should wait for the HTC Sensation or the Galaxy S II if it does come out; and if not, then the Samsung Hercules which I doubt I'll have the patience to wait for. Take a look here for more details about what I'm looking for.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055882
Now for my question. After about a month of looking at many G2X reviews and with my 2 year contract already up, at the moment I am thinking of getting the G2X. If you haven't read through the link stated above, one of my primary uses for this phone will be photos and videos. I love how the G2X has an 8 MP camera but after reading through threads and watching videos, I've noticed that it didn't have auto focus during video recording. A few months ago I read that the Samsung Galaxy S had a camera software upgrade for using auto focus during video recording. I know that camera resolution isn't everything when it comes to picture and video quality, but a 5MP camera being able to use auto focus at 720p while a 1080p camera can't raises a lot of questions for me. So is there a way to modify, hack, or upgrade the camera in the LG G2X to be able to support auto focus while video recording? This is the last thing which may help me decide on whether to get the G2X or not.
ive recently noticed the huge boom in galaxy s 2 mods/hacks. one of them being a hack for 1080p video recording at 24 and even 30 M/bits and cd quality audio. will this hack work with the infuse? and if not is there a way take full advantage all 8 of the megapixels that it comes with??

well noone in the infuse section has really seemed interested in that. after all we only have like 4 kernel devs and netarchy has never even officially released a kernel or been involved in the forum at all so far.
also I'm not sure our phone can encode video at that quality in real time.
and what does take full advantage of all 8mp mean? 1080p is only about 2mp and as far as stills we do take 8 mp stills. I don't know how much more quality you want to get. the lens is tiny and the main limiting factor in any phone. I don't even know why they bother with 8mp on phones. it is a waist of storage on pictures that aren't as good as a 4mp digital camera with a decent lens.
Most of this roms have camera recording in low resolution 320x240 and photo is normal 5mp.roms like sg2 or sg3 and few others can record in 640x480 and without any lag, also camera app is really good. those roms will never support higher camera recording resolution?or its just impossible to make that? i guess some people dont care much about that which is normal ofc i saw my ace running in full mode and i really like that.but those new roms are way better than before, only camera is problem to me,i like my device is working all 100%. is it possible to make mod for camera to put resolution a bit higher? thanks and ignore my bad english
i hope the questions are in red color,if not please excuse me cause i didnt want all post in red color,,just questions
I have an s3 but am considering a RAZR HD. I use the camera quite a bit and was wondering if anyone has had both phones and can give me an honest comparison.
Every review says if it wasn't for the camera it would be a better phone. Looking for some advice cause I love the build quality and feel.
Thanks.

If you have better lighting than the camera takes pretty decent pictured (better than my iPhone 4s), but when your in a low lightening area or dark rooms the camera is ****. Also no image stabilization it sucks beside that its a pretty decent camera as long as you can take pictures without shaking your hands lol. But rest of the phone quality wise is 200 times better than gs3
Well, every phone has its pro's and cons. I would first of all suggest you get the razr hd maxx, since you cant swap batteries. I assume you take lots of pictures, and that takes battery life.
As a new owner of a razr maxx HD, I can't answer your question directly. However I think the razr hd/maxx is superior to the gs3. My friends have had many more issues with screen cracking on the gs3 than the razr hd/maxx. The radio is much better in motorola devices compared to samsung. That is definitely a plus for uploading photos, txting, and making calls.
The camera on my samsung galaxy nexus definitely took pictures a lot faster. It was running 4.2.2 so I'm sure once the update comes out, maybe the camera speed will improve. Hope this influences your decision.

Honestly, there is no comparison.
The HD is not in the same league as the S3, however with root & bootloader unlock (not that I recommend), I have installed and tested about 6 cameras apps:
4 from the Google store & 2 customized apk files. I plan to keep the nexus 4 4.2 version apk file & the Snap camera from Google play.
The 2 are producing better quality pictures than the stock camera (if you need fast camera install the burst camera from Google play).

I came from the S2. I tested out the S3 quite a bit in the store as my wife was considering it. The camera on the S3 was really impressive with the number of shots it could take though I didn't take one home and see it in all conditions.
The only fair comparision I can make, though, is between the S2 and the RAZR HD. I would advise that if the camera quality is important, that the RAZR HD is NOT the phone for you. Samsung is, and has been, way ahead of what the RAZR is packing as far as photos go. The S3 is supposed to be much better than the S2 in respect of features and shutter speed at the very least, so I'd advise sticking with the Samsung and that's advice based on their S2 camera which is getting dated now. As much as people want to love their phone and think its the best, the camera is very much the weakest link on my phone. Its the only thing I miss about my S2.

I think he means that the Samsung's S3's camera blows the RAZR HD's camera out of the water.
Is everybody using the Jelly Bean update? I know a lot of people on this forum have probably downgraded to ICS for Root reasons, but I have found the Jelly Bean stock camera is fantastic.
To prove my point, I had a Galaxy Note 2 (same or nearly the same camera as the S3) and I was flipping back and forth between the Razr HD and the Note 2. Finally after a lot of personal camera tests I sold the Note 2 because I think the Razr HD has a better camera.
Again, I am talking about ONLY the stock camera AFTER the Jellly Bean Update. Before this, on ICS the camera was a disaster. Now there are some other features of ICS I wish I had. For instance my speaker is much lower after the update and I can't root the phone any longer. I was rooted, and used Voodoo but my OTA update failed so I had to flash manually.
Anyway, if the camera is a deciding factor (and it was for me) get the Razr HD. All other things being relatively close, I think it is the better phone.

After using the droid razr maxx hd for a few more days, my impressions of the camera are good. It takes pictures as quickly as the S3. Maybe we can post some pictures, one with natural light, one with artificial light, from both models and compare? I'm sure there are already some photos out there in reviews that let you compare.
Sounds like the update improved the camera a lot.
I'm wondering if my handset has a bad camera after reading other people's satisfaction with theirs.

probaby depends on what you are taking pictures of. I should clarify, the camera still struggles with graininess in low light. I have yet to find a cell phone camera that does not, however. I was just pointing out that the biggest faults from the ICS update like the slow shutter and inability to focus at close range have been fixed in Jelly Bean
I think in daylight, or good indoor light, the camera is about as good as anything I've tried with the possible exception of the Pureview 808.
Just don't expect miracles.
For reference, over the last 24 months I have owned:
Iphone 4, Dell Streak 5 and 7, Galaxy Captivate, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Captivate Glide, Galaxy Note 1, and 2, HTC Amaze, LG Optimus 4x, Xperia Play, ION, X10 and X10 Mini, Pantech Flex, Nokia 808 Pureview, Motorola Backflip, Razr and now Razr HD

Can you explain this? Are you saying that you put a nexus apk on your razr hd? Is the Snap camera the best that you've found for the HD?

Here is a picture I took today at a pottery studio. Its natural light on auto mode. Notice the great colors and how the camera handles the light. You can see sun rays as well as shadows all in the same frame.
Once again this is full stock 4.1.2 ROM and camera app.
Hi, could someone compare mis5s plus to samsung (s6 or s7) camera. I want change my old s6, because I want bigger screen and good battery, but in Internet I found ambiguous comments about mi 5s plus camera. I like s6, because, it's fast, good image quality in dark rooms and etc, very good for me, because I take a lot pictures with my kids.
Hello.
I'm sorry I don't have any samples for you, since I don't own a galaxy s6. However, one of my relatives owns a galaxy s7 and I can clearly tell the quality difference. Even with the mi 5s plus' dual camera photos, the quality will still be average. In low light, it is a decent performer, and usually the camera needs plenty of light in order to capture a decent shot. However, I can definitely say that the samsung galaxy s7 shoots much better photos, even in low light. If you really care about the camera and don't have a tight budget, I suggest you go for the samsung.
thank you. and I found information, what "on movent" merge foto.
I'm also facing the fact that I need a new phone with a good camera. I have my own thread, comparing a few models, asking for feedback if you want to chime in: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s-plus/help/question-camera-quality-t3612628
Did the original poster get this phone? Are you happy with its camera quality?
