I get the message "error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands" when I attempt to run "fix permissions" using ROM Mgr Premium. I am using a MyTouch4g Slide with the stock rom from TMobile.
The phone is rooted and superuser is installed. I ran this because my attempts to replace the ROM with an updated one, CM9 failed and I had to recover, I had done a factory wipe and the two wipe types from the bootloader screen.
I had hoped fix permissions might address whatever was wrong.
Any suggestions on the error message?
Thanks,
Charley

Sounds like starting fresh is how your going to have to go. Research how to properly wipe and flash a device and stay the hell away from ROM manager. It gives uneducated users a false sense of security thinking they are doing the right thing.
You know fix permissions is also in recovery right? Along with many other useful things.

I just tried it from CWM recovery. It completed after several minutes.
Also not sure if that has anything to do with why going to a new ROM didn't work

No going to a new ROM didn't work because the device wasn't wiped right. That's 90% of user issues the other 10% is bad code

Ok, I will try again and ensure the wipe is done correctly. What ROM do you recommend for this phone, the MyTouch 4g Slide?
I would like one that is fully functional and has better battery life and doesn't have the "bad code" you referenced. Is there such a thing?
Thanks,

Well, I didn't notice you mentioning that you fastboot flash boot boot.img to get your kernel up & running. That would be another biggie keeping you from running too. Follow the instructions for a proper wipe, flash your ROM from CWM & lastly fastboot flash....

I read the thread and I will try this today. One question though...once I complete this successfully, I will have a phone with the new rom, but none of the apps or settings I have entered for email, etc. Do I have to manually restore that, or do I apply a restore to get my configuration settings all back?
Thanks,
Charley

Just tested with ROM Mananger, it can backup just fine.. as soon i choose a ROM to install it loads recovery and fails, just like when you do it manually.

Sounds like stock recovery installed itself. If you are rooted remove/rename /etc/install-recovery.sh then reflash cwm manually or through rom manager.

I have had this happen on my NS4G. I know they are a little different, but it seems like you are having the same thing happen that I did and to solve it, I open Windows command prompt(or terminal depending on you OS) and fastboot flash recovery (insert recovery.img name here) and reflashed the recovery partition with clockwork. Very easy fix. Just make sure you boot straight into recovery after flashing and flash the Rom you want to flash before booting back into stock(also make a nandroid before that). After that you shouldn't have any more problems unless you unroot. There must be a small glitch somewhere when flashing the clockwork doesn't fully erase stock recovery partition.

The Nexus one did the same thing. Most OTAs verify / replace this file. It's easy enough to deal with if you're unlocked and rooted.

I am having trouble, and since I cant post on the page where this should be asked. (this is my first post) I am asking here hoping that somebody will look...
I have rooted my verizon S3 and it works great... I am however trying to install a CM10 Rom on my device. I have followed the instructions and get all the way to selecting the zip on the sdcard. it finds it, it opens it and after about 20 seconds it gives me a status 7 error and says error in XXXXXX\XXXXX .zip
I have done all the steps perfectly and have formatted and wiped it twice trying this... I even have my backup in place...
I have tried 3 or 4 different cm10 roms and they all give me the same error... What am i over looking?
Thanks
I think you need to flash a CWM/kexec hybrid recovery.
Download the app EZ Recovery and flash the hybrid CWM 6.0.1.0

I can get into the CWM recovery just fine.. when I choose the install zip from sdcad and choose the rom it will go through finding the package, then opening the update package and then installing update... 20 seconds later i get some symlinks failed, then I get a status 7 error in the file itself..

nope and now im stuck boot looping TWRP after trying what you suggested unsuccessfully.
I appreciate the help... any ideas how I can get out of TWRP back to CWM so I can restore a backup?
Thanks..
You could always Odin back to stock then re-root and install cwm again and restore your backup. May be an easier way not sure. But back up your files on a PC if you do that.

I have an att htc one x that has 4.01 and 2.20 software. I was able to successfully root the phone and now I'm trying to install CM10 but it's failing when trying to install.
It says it missing a MD5 File and says theres an error in the SD card/download/ the cm 10 file.
What am I doing wrong? Thank you
Make sure the Rom is for our phone and check the md5 sum it might be a bad download
I've tried redownloading the file several times and I'm still getting the same error message.
I'm downloading CM10 from here http://get.cm/?device=endeavoru

Wrong version, endeavoru is the international (Tegra3) One X. Our phone is code named evita.
Just stick to the Development forum here, to avoid flashing ROMs for the wrong version of the One X:

If you flashed an international rom, there's a good possibility you messed something up. Factory reset, wipe /system, and try flashing the correct CM10 rom again.
Ok. I'm trying to do a factory reset from bootloader but whenever I do, it goes to the CM10 boot screen where I was earlier. How can I do a factory reset?

A guy I was working with had the boot screen splash. If you've flashed the correct one, then wipe your caches. if that doesn't work reflash.

Don't do it from bootloader, it can corrupt your sdcard. Do it from recovery.
Go into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset and system. Then install the CORRECT rom.

I was able to get back into TWRP. There I tried to do a factory reset but it tells me it failed. And after installing CM10, do I have to go back into bootloader and flash boot.img from the CM10 nightly zip file?
And there goes my stock rom... Factory reset is not working on TWRP and tried system reset thinking it would get rid of CM10 but instead erased my stock rom.
Please help, need a working phone soon..

There are stickies and tuts around here for this.. but, the reason why it's not working for you is you didn't flash the boot.img first. before you installed the .zip. Also, you'll need the latest gapps for that ROM as well.
Not familiar with the forums around here, so if you could link me some of these stickies or tutorial it would be great.

Do you have a rom flashed? If so, wipe both caches and reboot. If that doesn't work, reflash and do a system wipe from TWRP.

Just flashed the official 4.4.1 zip file using TWRP onto my phone and rebooted...
Now i'm getting constant errors with every google application.
non-stop popups saying "unfortunately google play store has stopped"
My APN's all deleted themselves as well and now I can't even add any back in, I fill all the information in and I hit save and it doesn't save anything. No service now..
couldn't do a factory reset, button wouldn't respond
anyone else have any problems like this. I've tried wiping my dalvik and cache but that failed. had to wipe data first, then cache worked, then dalvik finally wiped...
I'll set my phone back up and see if it works now, just going through first boot procedures

I did, but still got the error. But then I pasted in my backup build.prop from ROM toolbox and it worked! Then while in TWRP I reflashed TWRP (TWRPception!). However, when I went to reboot it did not prompt me to root the device. So I'm running 4.4.1 stock kernel with TWRP, but no root. TWRP never prompts to root. Did you maybe delete data for Google Framework in order to get the OTA quicker?
Dan Morrill (an Android engineer) said that that is REALLY not recommended because it can have all sorts of problems with all google apps. Doing that erases your device fingerprint used for push notifications, device identification etc. The playstore was definitely affected by this as well.

Are you using any rooted apps that could be causing it? Xposed and mods would be my best guess.
Letting the battery die while using apps etc? Nope
Can you wipe it and run it stock for a couple days without restoring apps? Yes. Was looking for a simple fix but if I must, I have to give that a try.
Think I'll start with Xposed and disabling the Mods first.
Thanks and especially for the RUU's when all else fails.
