[Q] Which apk allows streaming from tablet to TV (any website with no restriction)? - General Questions and Answers

i've been using similar apps like Skifta or twonky beam to serve videos from my tablet to my DLNA smart TV.
one limitation i realized is that they either only stream LOCAL files (on tablet), or stream from selected websites only.
is there any app that allows true mirroring of the tablet screen to my TV? i.e. there should be no restriction in the website i want to stream from.
i'm using HP touchpad on the latest CM nightly build.
TIA!

anyone knows?

I would like to know but as long as I've searched I didn't find anything that would mirror ur phone screen to TV, maybe vlc (the way it's fine one computers)
As for streaming any website it may be possible but no app as of now

seeing how Airplay is a huge success on apple devices, i'm confused why android doesn't offer a similar solution. still on the lookout for an app that can mirror anything that i stream from a website, from tablet to TV.

Imediashare is great. Not sure if it can do any website though..

Video streaming to Android 2.1

Hi All,
Not sure if this is the best place to ask but... I'm looking for a way to stream .avi's/.mkv's over my wireless LAN to my new HTC desire. It seems that Android only supports a few video formats so I'm guessing I will need to do some transcoding on-the-fly. Is there any recommended software available for this? I've heard of TVersity but thats Windows-only, I'm running Fedora Linux.
Surely I cant be the first person to want to do this?
Thanks
Jeffers
I think Orb is supposed to do this but the comments seem to have mixed reviews on how well it works.

Orb looks to be Windows/Mac only, no Linux builds. Theres bound to be an opensource solution somewhere.
An player that streams video files... ?
im looking to see a streaming tv is there an APP for that ?
ive tried all wiki,pandora ,vlc...
nothing works on my pov mobii andr 2.1

[Q] DLNA Success?

Anyone had any luck with media sharing via DLNA?
Running the Connected Media App I've not had any success with a PS3 or Google TV (Logitech). I did have some success with a 3rd party app, but the pictures were down-sampled when viewed on the TV (thumbnail res nearly).
In terms of the network, my girlfriend received the Galaxy S2 today, and its AllShare app worked fine with the PS3 (the phone appeared on the PS3 as soon as AllShare was started), although as usual it didn't like the phone's videos being 3GP. (After spending some decent time with the S2 I can't say I prefer one over the other, but I'm seriously looking forward to when I can root this Sensation to uninstall the myriad crapware, plus the S2 allowed uninstallation of Vodafone's apps out of the box, weird).
So I wondered if anyone else has had any success sharing photos or videos to DLNA compatible devices?
My TV is DLNA compatible, although I'm not 100% sure if what I did is DLNA as I don't know all that much about the protocol, so forgive me if I'm wrong.
My TV is connected to my router via an ethernet cable and my Sensation, wirelessly.
With my TV on, I went into gallery, hit menu, select player, it searched and found my TV, I picked it, and then the TV started showing pics in 1080p, was pretty neat.
Even music streaming worked to the TV. I have also successfully got the phone to stream over bluetooth to my cars ICE, with the same method.
I was not able to do any of this with my Galaxy S.
is it possible to dlna to ps3 ???
i thought it doesnt work ??
could you select media from ps3 itself to be shown on tv or did you clicked a file on the phone on galaxy s2 and after that it was shown on tv ???
@alex Good to know, I think my DLNA devices (Google TV and PS3) are a bit too simple, they don't support streaming content to them (like with Apple's AirPlay), but only let you browse the phone's content. It's just weird that the phone wasn't showing up with the Connected Media app running...
Anyway I used DoubleTwist's AirTwist feature and the phone now shows up, I can view photos in full-res, play music, but not video due to the codec used, so that's pretty strange again but at least I have a 3rd party solution.
@B-Man I think so yes, but like Alex I'm not sure how much of this is pure DLNA standard protocols, and how much is proprietary or reverse engineered (like with DoubleTwist's AirPlay support).

Have you tried 1080p video to your TV yet?
is this a app ?? DoubleTwist's AirTwist ??
so you could stream pictures to the ps3 ?? or does the ps3 only finds a media server ??
No, will have to give video a try then report back.

Yes DoubleTwist is my media player app. AirTwist is a built in feature to enable media streaming across devices.
Another cool feature is AirSync (paid plugin) lets you sync your music, podcasts and playlists with PC/Mac over WIFI.

Once I get mine, I'll have an interesting test.
I have several 3D streams from various sources in 1080i, 1080p and 720p, SbS and TaB (Side by Side, Top and Bottom) and several DLNA enabled, 3D TVs at work. Will be interesting to see what happens when I playback one of those 3D streams over DLNA to a 3D TV. Will have to see if I can find out how many of them support 3D source over DLNA.
Not obsessed with 3D or anything. Have been working with it since Aug of '09 about 50% of the time at work. Have a US$500k lab setup. Love the source clips I get. 16GB for a two min clip. 8 for left eye and 8 for right eye. 1920x1080 @ 23.97 4:2:2 eats hard disks for lunch.
Just out of curiosity, how is 3D doing in the UK? TV manufacturers here did not get the sales they expected for 3D TV in '10.

Check this out: http://www.expansys-usa.com/htc-sen...aptor-dg-h100-incl-hdmi-cable+eu-plug-217567/
Looks like there might be a 720p limit on DLNA streaming. Not sure if it's a Sensation limit or DG H100.
I have had success streaming music, photos, and HD video to my Western Digital Live Hub using the connected media application..
I am quite impressed with the quality... Pics come up slow, however video was very good looking...

It's taking a similar path to HD, actually slower IMHO. No-one is really going out of their way to get one yet. Two reasons I can think of:
1. The major 3D TV provider, Sky, charges a lot of money for their packages but has very little 3D content (they already charge £10/mo extra for HD versions of 3 non-FTA channels). PS3 3D gaming is pretty niche.
2. There was a huge push to buy new large HD TVs with the World Cup 2010, literally everyone I know was upgrading their old sets (at this time 3D TVs were still in the early adopter price range). That surely puts a dampner on sales for a while after.
Everyone knows it'll be standard in sets soon, and without loads of compelling content, and still having to wear expensive glasses, there's just not much of a push yet.
I didn't know this existed until I was playing with the music app and noticed the device selection part.
I clicked, and there was XBMC running on my HTPC! And it worked!
I can stream audio and view photos on my new 55in Sony Bravia. Video is in the wrong format - .3gp isn't supported. I tried Twonky for Android and it's only capable of the same photos and audio. I may try to set up a Twonky server and serve the video from the Sensation to Twonky and then use Twonky's transcoding to view it directly on the TV.

XBMC had no issues with video either.
I work for T-mobile and attended the launch event in houston and HTC said that DLNA was still being fine tuned for the sensation, don't know if this helps.

Thanks. If they added hd video format options that included mpeg2 or something other than 3gp it would be nice. The connected media app works well.

I am also unable to get any media to stream to my google TV, VERY disappointing unless I'm doing something wrong.

Using Media Hub through HDMI adapter to TV

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I've not seen any references to it after spending time searching the posts.
Ok, so it appears that on the Infuse, Media Hub has been locked out of the ability to view a movie from Media Hub into a TV with the included HDMI adapter. Anyone know a work around?
I can see not allowing one to view the movie on a dvr like Tivo for copyright purposes, but locking me out of watching it on my tv (a non-recording device)? Really Samsung? Btw - It's a Samsung TV too!

gtg looked into this quite a while ago - it was not looking like an easy task.
Then Rogers Gingerbread hit and we had bigger fish to fry.
True, True, but none-the-less, if anyone finds a solution, I'd appreciate a post here or a PM.....thanx.

Found this today on DroidDog web site reviewing a Samsung Tablet.
Quote "Samsung Media Hub –Offering a vast lineup of critically acclaimed films and TV programs for rent or purchase. Media Hub has been redesigned allowing customers to playback Media Hub content on their TV through an HDMI adapter (sold separately). Purchased content can be shared with up to five devices enabled with Media Hub at no extra cost. End Quote.
I hope this isn't just a tablet update. Love this phone and better current movie releases on Movie Hub than streaming Netflix.
Let's test!

the reason it is locked out is that the license only allow playback on the phone. it is the studios. the licenses are expensive and mobile requires a different license from television and general computing deivces. i dont know about the tablet. it may qualify as a computer, maybe that is easier for the tablet because it doesn't make phone calls.
i hope they come to an agreement that allows playback on the phone. untill then there is netflix and various websites but the streaming quality isnt as good as the 1+gb movie files you get from media hub.
I have a great solution: torrents, specifically tTorrent on android

network streaming over android devices

i have a ps3. i used to stream movies saved on my desktop to my HD screen through ps3 using a program on the computer called ps3 media share.
Can i do the same using my galaxy note over wifi. I am asking both ways like working as a reciver and a server. can i make ps3 play movies on my note wirelessly.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
i acctually found aVia. I managed to watch movies stored in comp on the nice note screen. it has problems with fullHD movies ones larger than 5Gb. but not a big deal i can live with it. i think mobile wifi connection is a bit slow and this is the reason.
2nd i tried to browse mobile content from ps3, ps3 found a device call note but cant see any files inside. i really care for the first more, but why not make it all work

Is it possible to turn my old Android into a TV box?

Hello, first of all.
It's been a long time since I have visited this place, so excuse me please if I missed a similar thread. I have searched for it.
My question is if it this possible to turn my old Motorola XT 720 into an Android TV box (i.e. Chromecast or similar).
I have tried CheapCast app that only crashed when opening YouTube. This phone has a HDMI port and I assumed it can connect through it to my Philips TV, which is not a smart TV, but a regular HD TV.
The only connection I was able to create was the built-in version of media gallery from phone which has the option to display the pictures from phone on TV screen (proving there is a working connection at least).

This should be possible as the device has the ability to use another display. I would recommend using something like Tablet Remote or other similar apps on the Play store so instead of using the device as a chrome cast you can use it as a full media center device connected to your TV. By using one of these apps you would play videos directly through your device instead of "casting" them. This should hopefully work arround the issue of apps like CheapCast crashing.
Hope I could help and good luck
Thank you, Tablet Remote works good between the 2 Android phones. Still working on it.
I am also working on this route, trying to make use of my screen-broken Xperia Z. However apart from using as mediacenter with kodi, it would be nice if I could properly emulate chromecast. I would love to see a nexus android TV Rom being able to drive my phone, is anybody working on that?
