How to back root wildfire s whilst being able backup the factory recovery mode - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have unlocked my bootloader, and I would like to root my phone. However, I have heard you have to install clockwork mod custom recovery which simply replaces the HTC recovery mode. If I ever want to restore my phone to sell it in the near future and relock bootloader etc. how do I backup this HTC recovery mode? Also once clockwork mod recovery is installed what do I do next to actually make the root?

Can only access recovery thru rom manager?

So I flashed clockwork when rooting and renamed the script that always reverted to the stock recovery. I could always access clockwork from the bootloader.
However I just started using rom manager. Since it made me flash the recovery again I can't access clockwork from the bootloader. Can someone offer me advice on what to do to remedy this? I want to be able to access recovery no matter what.

If you can't access recovery from the bootloader you probably need to flash it again from within rom manager. That happened to me once and a reflash of recovery worked.
Power button and volume up to access with phone off to get in.

[Q] is it possible to Root without CWM (using stock boot loader unlocker)

Hi,
Is it possible to root the sensation after unlocking the Bootloader using the HTCDev method? without installing the CWM and custom Recovery.
I had to run the RUU and lost all my data recently when i was unable to revert back to stock recovery using the Guide on the forums and would like to avoid custom recovery if rooting is possible without
Don't do the HTCDev method, that's gonna like void your warranty, and it doesn't even do the job. Just go and try the step by step again, and maybe you'll get a better result
But I've already done that, don't think there's a way to revert (yet).

I don't think so.
To install root, you'd need to get a root prompt in shell, then mount /system rewrite, then copy over an app and a half binary, then make a symlink with that binary, which is a lot of work when flashing cwm then a su install zip will accomplish this with much more ease.

problem with CWM Recovery

I've been using this on the HTC salsa since it come out on the UK market, we use v4.0.1.4-quilong recovery setup.
Ive backed up several images of my stock ROM so i can try out a custom ROM, now i would like to revert back and the CWM will not restore the image. it says nothing found in directory.
How is this possible when this recovery made the images in the first place, and its doing this on all my backups. not been able to try another image as theres only 1 other person with it.
is there a specific way as i didn't have this problem on the Xperia X8 i own.
Did you upgrade to CWM 5.X.X? Anything over version 5 you can't use old images with. If this is the case, you need to downgrade to restore those older images.
This is the only cwm recovery usable with this handset so far.

Just to make sure, you're booting into CWM and then going into nandroid, right?
I can either reboot into recovery menu from phone on or whip battery out and use volume key and boot into there from boot screen. From the cwm recovery screen I goto backup and restore. I've made 3 backups and non will restore from there. The HTC salsa section in xda will show the cwm recovery menu structure we use. Haven't found any other cwm that will work on this handset yet.

ClockWork Mod wont install in Recovery

I've got a Sensation (I think its a Phillipenes issue) which was upgraded to ICS 4.0.3.
Basically I've managed to complete HTC Dev Unlock, then a few days later I lost Wi-Fi connection, so have been trying to continue with installing a Custom (or even the original) ROM in an attempt to fix it.
I've now done Junoptobear to get true S-OFF
Got root access
But cant get Clockwork Mod to install in Recovery...
I've installed ROMmanager Premium and used it to install the latest Clockwork Mod - it states its downloaded and completed but when I go to the bootloader and select Recovery it flashes the white HTC screen for a brief second then back to the bootloader.
I've tried to manually download the Clockwork Mod file and install to Recovery but I get the same issue.
Does anyone have any ideas?? Many thanks!
Hi there you can install 4ext recovery you can get the file here in xda or even from the play store. Many of us use 4ext because it has many options and is very easy to use.personally I prefer 4ext. All I did was download from the play store and opened the app follow directions choose version of recovery and it will flash from the application. I was already rooted and soff when I did it but it's very easy to do. I really think you will like 4 ext recovery. You already have s OFF and root so it should not be a problem. Best of luck to you. I hope this helps! As I mentioned most of us use 4 ext recovery and I doubt you will be disappointed. Good luck.

I may be wrong but this sorta sonuds like a problem abother member was having the other day. I think they may not have a eng Hboot installed. Question why not just let them flash the recovery using the PG58IMG.zip via bootloader?

[Q] HTC sensation ROM flashing problem

Dear friends,
I tried to flash the Jelly BAM rom 3.3 on my htc sensation. The device is roooted with CWM installed. I did factory data wipe in recoevre mode and installed the zip from sdcard but on booting my system hangs on the startup screen forever. After that i have tried all data wipes etc but it doesnt seem to be working. My device is also not being recognised on the computer so i would flash the boot.img from adb or some thing. can you please advise what to do now?
Is your device s-off?
If not, install 4ext recovery (see my signature) and flash the ROM from there, make sure 'smart flash' is checked in the recovery.
Without s-off the recovery has no direct access to the boot partition, this smart flash mode bypass this problem.
