So I was using my phone earlier and the screen randomly went dark, as if it had timed out. I woke it back up with the home button, then same thing happened again about 10 minutes later. I figured my case pinched the button or something to turn it off. It turns out that now the power button shows no response, at all. No matter how many times or ways I push on it.
Did it just fry? Just like that? Any ways I could test to see if the button itself is the culprit or if it could be any other factor?
First thing I would probably do is Odin back to stock and see if it still doesn't work. If not, I'd say it's a hardware problem.

Boot into CWM recovery, and do a key test and see if the power button is seen. Its under advanced options. use the integrated menu in cwm. Also you need the touch version of CWM recovery. Because if your power button doesn't work you wont be able to select anything.

So I've had my Transformer for several months now and it's been great. Today was the first time I've had this issue where my screen wont come back on but I can still hear emails and other audio happen in the background. This happened earlier today and then suddenly the screen came back on. Well about an hour ago it happened again. I tried turning the screen on and nothing but i'm still getting audio.
I've tried holding down the power button for 5+ seconds to try to get it to power off but it's not turning off that i'm aware of. Is there some other type of combo i can do to try to get it to respond? I've also pressed the power button, vol up and vol down to make sure no button is accidentally held in.
Any help? I would like to get this working again and not have to RMA it. I'm also running Prime v1.82 ROM.
When the screen went dark were you moving the TF at all? Any recent jarring? Sounds like possibly a connection has come loose. Just a thought.

how can i check the connection? Is there a "how to" for accessing the internals of this unit? I would like to check that before sending the unit back if possible.

Try holding down the Power + VolDown key at the same time. This will reboot your device...
I don't know if this pertains to your particular issue but are you running a different launcher? If so it may want you to choose which launcher at startup. If the picker window pops up and doesn't show because of a bug in Honeycomb the screen will go dark and you won't see the picker window. When it does it again try turning the screen to portrait and then back again to landscape and see if the picker window will show. Of course you will need to have Auto Rotate screen checked on in the settings for you to do this also.
I had this happen one day on my phone, and it was the launcher issue....
Has anyone ever gotten stuck in CWM recovery?? And by stuck I mean, making any selection just makes all the text/options/scripting-prints disappear and the only thing that's left is the background image of the green android guy standing next to the box with the arrow coming out. It just happened to me and I have no clue why. I booted into recovery, made a nandroid backup, and then went to restore a previous nandroid backup, and that's what happened. And after that, every single selection attempt just had the effect described above. So after 5 minutes or so, I tried holding down the power button. Held it for a good 30 seconds, released it, didn't seem to work, until about 5 seconds later it finally started to reboot. And then booted back up into android. I was freaking out for a bit there, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what happened??
Yes that has happened to me. I fixed it by pressing volume up or down button several times. It is some safety feature or something, scared the sh!# out of me too lol especially since I had done a factory reset right before.
Haha glad to see I'm not the only one. Just wanted to know that it wasn't anything to be careful of in the future. Thanks!
Did you try using the home button to make selections? For some reason, it has happened to me also. I freaked out, but tried the home button and it worked. The power button sometimes hid the text of the recovery, but idk why.

Yeah I actually tried every one of the softkeys. Nothing worked. They all had the same effect as hitting the power button. So weird.
same here, j had to hold power button for 20 secs and then reboot phone. I thought it was strange

Yeah, this is a built in feature to cwm, if you press the volume buttons in an up down up down pattern a couple of times, you'll get a message saying "back button disabled" and you won't be able to select anything. If you go back and forth on the volume a couple more times it should fix the issue.

Wow thank you for this! I know exactly what happened then. The case on my phone covers up the volume rocker making it difficult to push. And I must have been pressing the rocker right in the middle, because I did notice the highlighted selection go up and down a few times. And then I did, indeed, get the "back button disabled" message. And now I know if it happens again, how to get out of it. Thanks again.
I think my Infuse crapped out on me. After about a week on Slimbean, while texting, my phone decided to shut off and start bootlooping. I sat there and was like... wtf
I tried entering recovery, couldn't get to it. I removed the battery and re-inserted it then another strange thing happened, it powered on by itself. Now I know something definitely going on. Tried getting into recovery for another 15mins and gave up. I then loaded up heimdall and tried entering download mode.... It doesn't work either! I've tried so many times too. What the hell is going on with my phone?! I was holding out until 2013 to upgrade because my infuse was doing well and I don't really like anything that's on the market right now. But with the recently announced Note II, I may find something extremely temporary and go to that, but main plan is to fix this and wait for 2013. So any ideas on what to do?
I had the same issue as you homie. Your power button is jammed. I had to take mine apart and clean out the power button. After I did that it wasn't rebooting by it self anymore. Or what you can do is when it turns on press the power button continuously until it stays on. Now I don't even touch the the power button at all. I use the power widgets to put it to sleep and I use the volume button to wake it up.

Opened up my phone and tried cleaning it, still same thing. Maybe the button itself is actually broken... Maybe I should desolder it...
Alright so it was the power button. I desoldered it and now the phone works... just without a power button. The only problem now is trying to flash a Rom via CWM. The home button doesn't work either, it just makes the menu disappear, as with the menu button as well. Is there another way to flash a rom Via heimdall or odin? I particularly would like to go the slimbean route but I need to flash ICS first. Any and all help would be appreciated!
[Q]Can't get into Recovery Mode, possibly due 2 "sticky" power button. It got worse
Couple of things first to lay down the situation.
I'm on BEAN Builds 19,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982
I'm also using ClockworkMod Recovery. Not sure what version.
Now my power button is one of those "sticky" ones, where it's not springy. This has caused me a few problems in which I can't seem to use the button to turn on my phone anymore. If the phone is off, I have to pull the battery, and then re=insert it to turn the phone back on. Also I'm not sure if button is "being held down", since it's so sticky, but the quick toggle options in the ROM for Restart and Recovery don't work. When I use the quick toggle for restart, my phone just turns off, and doesn't restart. As for recovery, I'll touch on that below.
Today I wanted to flash myself a new modem. So I tried to get into Recovery mode. I go into there once after a couple of tries, but the Power Button , being in the down position from the "sticky button", hit the option to restart the phone before I could flash anything/do anything. After a couple of tries of unsuccessfully getting into Recovery Mode the normal holding down buttons way, I decided to try the quick toggle in the rom to get into Recovery mode.
But just like hitting the restart option, it didn't do what I wanted it to do. My phone shut off, but that was it. Now when I try to battery pull and reinsert to get the phone to turn back on, all it does is show the Samsung Logo, turn black, and that's it. I'm assuming that it's trying to boot into Recovery Mode since that's what it was last told to do before I shut off my phone, and I also think that the "sticky power button" is throwing off the phone's attempts to do that.
Any help or direction would be great and much appreciated. Thank you for your time you took to read this.
Bang ur fone on a table. Seriously ppl been doing that on ur situation to pop out the power button. Try to cover ur fone or put a cloth on table so ur fone wont get scratch and stuff

I've got a very similar issue. Only difference is my power button is not stuck at all. However regardless of how I try to enter recovery/Download/ or simply to restart my phone I often times have to try 10 - 15 times before anything other than the Samsung splash screen into black screen of ??? Happens. Up until 5 minutes ago and hopefully for good something somehow decides to let the phone do as I had asked(told) it to do. Wish I had an answer or some help for you instead of reporting the same problem. Hopefully someone out there does.

Did you open up your phone and meter the button? If not its probably sticking. The button you see on the outside is just a contact not the actual button so it won't look compressed. Sounds like your problem is super sensitive button which is related to the sticking button in fact it was what happened to me beforeit started sticking.

Ok. I am writing here since it was suggested. I am having a major issue and unsure how to fix it. The following is the issue and steps taken thus far with no resolve. Hopefully someone else has an answer to assist me. I really need this phone to work as it is my lifeline.
Star is I have all updated firmware, rom, and even updated xtended settings. I have today also installed the viper sound for the first time. I will say I have settings changed throughout with all the variations. Xtended settings, nusense toolbox, vipersound, normal settings, and Xposed framework.
What is happening is the phone needed a reboot. It shows the splashscreen and then shuts off. It will not fully boot. I have tried to hold the power vol/up buttons together and quickly vol/down. But that does not work. Now I have also tried adb and attempted to find the device but with no power seemingly it is not able to work.
Anyone have suggestions I might try? Please advise.I have even attempted adb but the pc does not see the device since it never gets fully turned on. It is a splashscreen and then dead. Really wish there was a way to get it to just turn on for access somehow. Anyone have a suggestion?
Have you tried holding the power button and up button till you get into fastboot?

I have actually held the button where it will only show the splashscreen and then show a bit of the TWRP recovery screen. However I cannot pick anything from the menu before it goes to the battery icon showing it is simply charging. I really have no clue what is needed to be done now. I am surprised it has let me get that far without just turning off again. But this was done by holding the volume button up and down and power button all at the same time.
Do you have any other suggestions since it is not being seen by adb on the pc?

Unplug your phone. Then hold power and volume up for 30 seconds. Plugged in you are hitting the twrp bug.
Edit... After unplugging wait 20 seconds before attempting to boot it.
