SGS4G Internal Memory Issue - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I just got this phone today. I rooted with OneSuperclick without any issues; however, I am running into storage problems right now. I don't have a microsd card on hand to store kernel and custom rom. Currently, I cannot save any files to my "SD Card" (internal memory). How can I go about flashing it now? I have 384MB left.
I've never had these issues before rooting other phones.

you need an sd card to put the rom you want to flash on. you can't even flash from internal memory because it needs to be mounted and unmounted for the flashing, I think anyways.
Spend $5 and buy a 2 or 4 gig one, they're cheap now.

I was just confused cause I had no issues before with rooting and flashing a Samsung Captivate and Galaxy SII without a SD Card, so I was wondering what the issue was.
Thanks!

Where is it really saving Apps\Data?

So this is the first phone I've seen where it has SYSTEM memory, SD INTERNAL, and SD EXTERNAL. It's really confusing for me.
When I install an app, is it installing to the 16GB built in memory, or my SD card? I haven't modified anything. And if I do a backup using MyBackupPro, is it using the on board, or the SD card?
It seems like everything favors the internal 16GB, so I guess the 32GB I slid into the device should just be used for things like movies and photos, etc?
I guess this confusion is hampering CWM too since it's not used to handling both these "SD CARDS"
Thanks!

This also brings up another question. Once ROMs do come out as a result of CWM being modified, normally someone does a format\wipe data\clear cache. This would normally clear anything on the "internal memory"... but since there's some confusion as to if the phone sees the "internal SD" as internal memory or not, do you think this process will wipe that as well?
No confusion. I think you may be confusing yourself in a vicious circle
Everything by default is added to the "internal" SD. There are apps (app2SD) and other ways(GB) to install apps to "external" SD, but not all apps can be.
Backups are saved on "internal" SD. (MBP, i dunno, I use TiB) This folder can be copied to "external" SD BEFORE a wipe and flash, then copied back to "internal" SD, backup program installed and restore apps+data preformed(copying the backup folder to pc suggested also in case All goes Wrong) .
"System" is on "internal" SD but is on a different partition, as well as ROM and Internal DB to their own.
CWM has no issue with SD (internal/external SD'd are not new) but as phones and hardware are different for different models it must be modified for the device.... par for the course. As far as how to CWM ROM, always do as OP of ROM states, until you are at least familiar with the process.
Is this your first android device? or first Samsung? I recommend that if you want to understand better how these devices operate to read the Galaxy S family of forums ( Galaxy S, Captivate, Fascinate, etc) as there is tons of info that will be similar to the Infuse.
Hope I ain't steered you wrong and it helps

I have to say your post made a ton of sense and brought clarity to the issue. I'm new to the way Sammy phones work as my past Android Experience has been LG, and HTC (x2)... Thanks!
Misguided? Yes, I'm always chasing my tail hoping I'll catch it... one day I'll get it! hehe.
I'll look through the Samsung forums. Thanks for the tip

Yep. The 16gb internal sd is partitioned into a 13 gb and some change (/sdcard) and 2gb (/data). Then the external sd is mounted as /external_sd.
/sdcard and /external_sd are supposed to be used for media (try taking a 2 minute video at 720p res lol...easily 40-50mb) and android devices usually have a 2gb data partition where your apps install (supposed to install by default).

Cool, thanks for the great info
is there way to make every thing store directly on the phone?

Will CM7 require a microSD?

Hey guys, I heard that I might need a microSD card to run cm7. Is this correct? If so, would a 16GB class 2 SanDisk be good enough?
Thanks,
Matt
I don't think that you HAVE to have a sd card, but if you want to have any apps on the phone it sure would help. The S4G doesn't have that much internal memory. I'm sure that memory card would suffice, but obviously the higher the class the faster and better.
1gb of apps is far more than enough. You'll need it to put the ROM on it to begin with.

You just need the microsd card to flash the room since you have to put the zip file in it. After that it doesn't matter at all if you don't have an sd card when it come to running cm7.

didnt you get a memory card when you bought the phone? in the box that came with mine i got a 8gb card in the phone.. that would be perfectly enough to install cm7 and have room for apps/games..
You'll need it initially for flashing the zip file and if you want to use Apps2SD to keep space on your phone free. I don't think it's "required" after the initial installation of the ROM. I'd recommend one, however to keep NAND backups.

SD Cards --- External Storage

Ok maybe I'm missing somthing but I got my new sd card tonight and formated it on the computer. Then put it in the slot and it not showing up. I did a fat32 format. The card is a sandisk class 10 32gig. Any ideas? as alway you guys are awesome. Thanks for the help
Any ideas why I can't mount my sd card? It's not showing that there is a card there.

I can put the card in my dx and it works fine but put it back in the s3 and nothing. I'm running synergy anybody thinks that has something to do with it. Maybe I'll try a different rom. Any ideas?

first try reflashing synergy. Something funky may have happened when you flashed the Rom.
If that does not work go back to stock and see if it will work on the stock rom, heck it is always worth a try. If this doesn't work, it may have been the formatting done by your computer that has made it incompatible.
If nothing works, take it back to the store you bought it from ( if you bought it from a store x.x) and just get an exchange because it is technically a faulty product to you right now.
Also, it may be inconvenient, but please list more info. What version of Synergy? What kernel are you running? Either of these could be the problem.
I will try to re flash ASAP... I'm running synergy rom nightly r53. And the kernel that came with it. I just got this 32gig class 10 card but my 16gig from my dx did not work either. I never tried before I rooted it. Hope flash will help.

All these threads I see about cards not being able to be mounted - can't you just format the card in the phone itself and then mount and use it?
That's how we got the 64 gig sandisk cards to work in the mytouch 4g slide - and when I took that card out of it and put it in the SGSIII it was immediately usable, didn't have to format or anything.
Why have I not seen mention of trying this - did I just miss it or is "format card" greyed out under storage options?

Do we know what's wrong with the format option in the phone then?
I phrase it that way because my over a year old htc device can prep the cards to work in the SGSIII - so thia device should be able to do it too.
If going from gingerbread to ics means losing critical functions like this, think I need a tally of all the missing features gingerbread offered before calling the upgrade progress...
...or is this samsungs fault and a device specific problem?

[Q] Samsung GT-P3113 Disappearing Internal SD Partition

I bought my daughter a refurbished Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (GT-P3113) for Christmas 2012. If I recall, this was the 8GB model and there were two partitions. It has been running the stock OS, no custom ROMS. I cannot recall if I have ever installed any system updates. A few months ago, the internal SD partition just disappeared. I "fixed" this by installing a 16 GB SD card and redirecting as many of the apps as I could to save to the external SD. The tablet has been running terribly lately (lagging, locking up) so I decided to see if a factory restore would fix both problems. I don't know yet if it fixed the sluggishness, but the storage capacity is showing the same thing, total capacity of 4.59 GB.
Where did that partition go? Can I get it back safely? If I can get it back, can I trust it? She is only 8, so it's not like she is using this for critical data. If I have to, I will just stick to the existing fix, using the external SD card for storage until it is time to upgrade in a year or so.
Thanks,
Paul
Ok, so I installed all of the updates after doing a factory restore, and now the capacity is showing the full 8 GB. Now I am not 100% sure if there were two partitions to start with or not. I know that we also had an issue with her original SD card, so maybe that is what i am thinking of.
Anyway...it appears to be fixed for now.

I've used SD cards that die after awhile, sadly it happens too often. It's worth a shot to run it from stock but the rom itself is technically on the internal memory not the external. There are apps out there for recovery for pictures and some files but personally I've never used them or had to really
