Hey guys, I heard that I might need a microSD card to run cm7. Is this correct? If so, would a 16GB class 2 SanDisk be good enough?
Thanks,
Matt
I don't think that you HAVE to have a sd card, but if you want to have any apps on the phone it sure would help. The S4G doesn't have that much internal memory. I'm sure that memory card would suffice, but obviously the higher the class the faster and better.
1gb of apps is far more than enough. You'll need it to put the ROM on it to begin with.

You just need the microsd card to flash the room since you have to put the zip file in it. After that it doesn't matter at all if you don't have an sd card when it come to running cm7.

didnt you get a memory card when you bought the phone? in the box that came with mine i got a 8gb card in the phone.. that would be perfectly enough to install cm7 and have room for apps/games..
You'll need it initially for flashing the zip file and if you want to use Apps2SD to keep space on your phone free. I don't think it's "required" after the initial installation of the ROM. I'd recommend one, however to keep NAND backups.

I bought a new 32 gig sd card, I copied the filed on my existing card to a folder on my computer then transferred it to my 32 gig sd card. When I try flashing a rom from my new card it doesn't go thru, if I try flash it from my old sd it go thru fine.
What is happening or what am I doing wrong ?

Its a Sandisk 32 gb SD card. I bought it online cant remember exactly where right now.
What file format did you use to format it?
Not sure I used the formatter in the link above. Is there a specific format and formatter I need to use?

Yeah, I'd like to know as well... I have an 8g card and I did a 512 ext and the rest Fat32... do I need to set the ext partition to ext3 or will that happen automatically depending on the rom...

Okay guys I need to figure this out so here goes again:
I just bought a 32gb scan disk SD card to replace a 8gb I had. When I try flashing a ROM or rebooting in recovery with the 32gb card in the phone it gets stuck on that black screen with the android logo and the triangle. If I use my 8 gb card everything proceeds smoothly. I have formatted it but I get the same result.
Can any one tell me how to fix this problem?
Do you have a card reader on your computer? I had a similar issue when I was using the "quick format" option in windows. Once I did the longer version it worked fine.

Hi all
Was wondering if I should take advantage of the partitioning tool in rom manager. Should I empty out my sdcard before using this? Will titanium backup know where to put the apps when I move them to the sdcard after installation? 256 or 512?
Thanks
Heeter

dont partition your internal sd card. its not needed and its a bad idea. its not as easy to replace as an external sd card when you mess it up. you can already install apps to sd without it.
Thanks for your response
Heeter

From what I've read, the Nexus S actually has a NAND chip instead of an internal SD, so imo, partitioning like that is even worse
When I try to move apps to SD card it says not enough room eventhough I have plenty of room....I don't get it

Try cleaning cache and dalvik in clockwork recovery. also clear market data.
I may be wrong, if so someone will correct me, but on Weapon's rom and Stock rom's the Apps are moved to the Internal SD not the External SD. I think the CM7 is the only one that reworks the mounting to use the External for this.
One thing with the new 'superphones' it's really not necessary to move apps to sd. The g2x has 3 locations in which to store apps. The problem you are having I ran into awhile back. The issue is with mounting or improper format on your sd card. Always, when in doubt, reboot!

OK, I am going from an 8gb sd card to a 16gb, but before I do I need to know if it will break root or if I just need to make the new one a goldcard as well or what in general. I searched for switching sd cards in the forum but it didn't give results so I'm asking here.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
the ONLY reason a goldcard is needed is for downgrading firmware. ROOT is WITHIN the OS and has NOTHING to do with the SDCard. you can freely swap sdcards at will

If you change your SD card nothing will happen except that you will loose your apps and photos in there. Root access has nothing to do with your SD card. Make a copy of the files and folders you want to preserve in your pc and then copy then back in your new SD card....

Ok, so a follow-up to that, and this may be a noob question but... Is there anything on the SD card that I have to have? I usually move ROM backups off the card to a computer, but lots if apps seem to make a folder in my SD card. As a rule, am I better off keeping apps in the phone memory if available? My SD cd card seems to be full of cr*p that i don't think I need but am afraid to delete.

Nahh dont copy anything...just the backup and the titanium backup folder...that will do. With those folders you can restore all your missing apps with data...and have a backup of your rom just in case!! Is good to tidy up from time to time!

Back them up with the titaniun backup and the copy that folder into your new SD Card. Restore the missing apps and that's it. You need no more...

Thank you all. I moved all of my apps back to the phone. I had already culled many that I didn't use when I rooted and flashed a ROM last week. I made new backups and pulled them off the sd card for safe keeping and then erased the SD card. I put music and ringtones back and now I have lots of space and everything still works. Guess all of those other files were just clutter. Thanks again.

Hi,
Back up everything you need first.
It is probably better to format it on your PC if you can.
Make a select all/copy/paste to a folder on your PC.
That way you keep everything .
Format to FAT 32,and replace your important docs, pics, music, films, etc.
Put back in your phone, and android will replace all the files it needs.
Voila.
All I'm trying to do is clear a 2 Gig sd card that I only use to put roms on that I flash onto my phone.so basically I don't need to back up that stuff because I will never need it again correct?the roms, apps and kernels that I have backed up in in my 4 ext touch recovery will those be erased when U format my sd card?

Hi,
Yes,the nandroid backups you have done will get wiped if you format the card.
They are in a folder called "clockworkmod"
These will all get saved to your PC when you plug the card into the PC,press select all/copy/paste to a folder on your PC.
Can I save my back ups by using titanium back up?are only by the previously way that you just mentioned?so basically whatever sd card is in your phone at the moment that you are doing a back up the back ups are saved to that particular sd card only?Because I only backed up roms, kernels when I had my 8 Gig sd card in my phone.I didn't do any back ups when I had my 2 Gig sd card in so since I'm wanting to clear my 2 Gig sd card completely nothin needs to be backed up because I never backed up any roms, etc with that sd card in my phone.so I go to go then just hit format sd card sibce I never did any back ups on it?Is this all correct?

If you decide to wipe sd card make sure your not on an aosp rom or aokp there is a bug which makes your device bricked for good... And just to be on the safe side back it up on the pc first and go ahead

Yes it can be done get on a sense rom and boot into recovery and wipe sd card but I think it will make you loose recovery not sure tho someone confirm before you go ahead..
Don't rush mate let's just wait for someone to confirm just in case..

Hi, you can format the sd card without booting recovery at all. Just go to the settings, then storage, and then format the sd from there. No worries of formating the other partitions.
Also, if you use file managers to back up your stuff, make sure you get it on another sd card, or the phone itself. If not, you will just lose it when you format
Hope I've helped you
